Board transfers encampment resolution funding within budget Partnership on this project. Homelessness has exponentially grown in the state, including Del Norte County. Since the 9th District Court of Appeals decision, efforts to develop shelter beds in California have continued with little progress made in addressing the homeless problem. Transients continue to reside on public property and across a wide swath of forested public lands adjacent to our populated centers of commerce and residences. With a standing room-only audience observing at the Flynn Center, the Board of Supervisors approved the transfer of $10,823,724 identified as Encampment Resolution Funds. The transfer moves the funds to line-item accounts within the budget to cover the cost of upcoming development and consultant fees, an emergency shelter, a micro village, training for employees, and outreach and navigation services, as requested by Ranel Brown, director of Health and Human Services. The vote to approve the transfer was 4-1 with 4th District Supervisor Joey Borges dissenting. The transfer was necessary to pay for the project which is supported by the County Homeless Ad Hoc (two supervisors) Committee. The Honorable Robert F. Cochran will be stepping down as judge in the Superior Court. His departure leaves a judicial vacancy in Del Norte County. Two qualified candidates are seeking the black robes for a sixyear term. The primary election will take place, Tuesday, March 5, and your ballot Keith Morris will display both candidates. Keith Morris: CA Bar member 225835 was admitted to the State Bar on June 10, 2003. A product of Northern California, Keith earned his undergraduate degree from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah and graduated from the University of New Hampshire School of Law in May of 2002. Morris began his career as a deputy district attorney in Del Norte and Amador counties. Morris started his own private practice. In 2017, Morris returned to Del Norte County, Karen Olson working as a public defender and private attorney. He’s appeared before judges in 15 different California counties. Vessels light up the Harbor

An estimated 400 to 500 spectators strolled about the Crescent City Harbor, enjoying the Holiday Lighted Boat contest, decked out boats, great food and cheerful festivities Saturday evening. The annual Harbor Holiday Lighted Boat contest was merry and magical…jolly and joyous. 264 folks voted the People’s Choice award, which went to The Jeannie Marie. A special panel awarded the Judge’s Award to The Jennifer Anne. The winners each earned a $400 vessel moorage fee credit. All vessel entries received $100 credit on their electric power bill.
