Neon sign lights up downtown North Bend BY BREE LAUGHLIN The World
The City of North Bend is shining brighter thanks to the Liberty Theatre’s new gigantic neon blade sign. The community came out in droves to support the Little Theatre on the Bay as they officially lit up the sign, which adorns the historic building on the south end of town. The celebration coincided with the theatre’s opening night of "Other Desert Cities" on Friday, Jan. 19. The re-creation of the neon Liberty Theatre continues on page 3
Oregon Bay Area Beautification group hosts appreciation event BY BREE LAUGHLIN The World
Members of the Oregon Bay Area Beautification group recently came together to recognize their volunteers and celebrate their accomplishments. The volunteer appreciation event on Saturday, Jan. 20 in the Coos Bay Public Library’s Myrtlewood Room included soup for “souper volunteers,” an awards ceremony and an opportunity to socialize with OBAB leaders and volunteers. Most of all, OBAB leaders said the event was a time to reflect on the impact the local

Performing arts academy expands from Coquille to Coos Bay BY BREE LAUGHLIN The World
A dance and gymnastics business that started in Coquille in 2023 recently started offering additional classes in Coos Bay. The Performing Arts Academy of Coos County now
has more than 100 students that range from toddlers to teenagers. There are also parent and me gymnastics classes for children as young as 6 months (or crawling). The academy offers a variety of classes in Coquille that include ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary hip hop, and
musical theatre – a combination of singing and acting – as well as gymnastics. The new classes being offered in Coos Bay have a focus on gymnastics. Performing arts continues on page 4
