ello lovely readers, and welcome to another issue of Your Hampshire and Dorset Wedding. We’re well into autumn now, and I’ve loved every second of this beautiful season. There’s nothing better than strolling hand-in-hand through the forest this time of year to get some fresh air while enjoying nature. Plus, I’m a jumper girl at heart and love wrapping up warm. The scenery has embraced shades of orange, red and yellow this time of year, which creates the ultimate backdrop for weddings. Embrace the rich tones and seasonal foliage in your venue styling for autumnal nuptials – I’m talking sunflowers, berries, acorns, dahlias and hydrangeas. This can also be transpired throughout your stationery, florals and cake. My favourite season is just around the corner, and I couldn’t be more excited to welcome winter. I can picture it now, getting cosy on the sofa with a blanket and hot chocolate while watching my favourite Christmas films. It’s just such a magical time of year with plenty of family time, food, festive cheer and friendly competition with must-have board games – scrabble anyone? I instantly knew this was the man for me.” Joe proposed on a random Thursday afternoon after Amy arrived home from work. “I couldn’t work out why he kept asking me if I was going to be leaving the house during the day – it all makes sense now,” says Amy. “I had just returned from an appointment and walked into the living room, where I saw roses in the shape of an arrow on the floor leading to the kitchen. On the table were many tea lights in the shape of a heart and a box in the middle, which contained a Haribo ring! I turned around laughing and saw Joe on one knee with an engagement ring. I can honestly say this was a huge surprise, as let’s be honest, who gets engaged at home on a Thursday!”

SETTING THE SCENE The pair created the perfect wedding, starting with a ceremony at St Nicholas’ Church before continuing the celebrations at Oakley Hall Hotel. They aimed to have as much fun as possible surrounded by friends and family; they achieved just that! The pair initially fell in love with the driveway up to the venue as well as the rustic and modern touches throughout the spaces – they couldn’t have imagined getting married anywhere else! An old Bentley called Bertie transported the couple between venues while the wedding party travelled in a vintage Rolls-Royce – both provided a beautiful backdrop to images! Albert & Indigo included garden and spray roses in vibrant pink tones with complementary pastel pink shades for the flowers. The team tied bright pink ribbons around the stems for the ultimate look. The lovebirds were keen to create an impact when guests entered the room, so the florist suggested arrangements at various heights. Some floral displays were on tall, muted gold stands and some in low hammered bowls. Guests found their seats thanks to the table plan displayed on a pink and white board that matched the welcome sign. The pair is fortunate that their dear friends has an eye for art and created these stunning pieces. For favours, what could beat a pack of Tic Tacs? The pair had ‘mint to be’ packets in light pink to match the colour scheme for guests to take home. Hayley’s Cake Studio created the most incredible five-tiered cake, with sugar flowers to match the blooms on the day. The bride says, “Hayley put together all our ideas, including a glitter tier to perfectly match the day and theme. It was the most beautiful cake we had seen and eaten!”

LOOKING THE PART The bride wore a beautiful gown from Olive Blossom Bridal; she knew the style she wanted before dress shopping but never expected to find the one on the first day! She says, “When I tried the gown, I knew it was the perfect dress! I added a glitter tulle under the first layer to add some extra wow factor and finished the look with glitter Steve Madden heels and a diamond headband from White Designs. I was blown away when I looked in the mirror, and I couldn’t believe it was me!” Joe wore a navy blue suit from Moss Bros, styled with a waistcoat that was pink on the front and featured a paisley pattern on the back as well as a pink bow tie. All the groomsmen wore the same but with ties to allow the groom to stand out. Pocket watches and personalised cufflinks finalised the look! The four bridesmaids wore pink sweetheart-neckline dresses with nude heels, and they all had matching rose gold clutch 33

MEMORABLE MOMENTS The lovebirds both felt so excited and incredibly happy. The day they had planned for just over a year had finally arrived, and every detail was everything they could have wished for. All the talented suppliers went above and beyond to contribute to the special day. Exchanging rings and the speeches were incredible moments that will always stand out to the pair. One funny memory was when one of the bridesmaids told the bride that planting a sausage the day before the wedding would ensure good weather. After planting one on the Friday, the weather was incredible but made them wish the beautiful 1953 Bentley had some aircon! A cellist performed during the drinks reception to entertain guests, creating a beautiful atmosphere and setting the day’s scene before the venue’s DJ continued the evening celebrations. The pair is lucky to have a friend who is a fantastic singer that performed a couple of sets throughout the night. The bride says, “Everyone couldn’t wait to get on the dancefloor, only pausing to head to the bar!”

HONEYMOON The pair jetted off to the Maldives (Constance Moofushi) for 10 days on the Monday after the wedding, which was amazing from start to finish. They both planned the trip together and agreed to go immediately after the wedding. Amy comments, “A highlight was swimming with whale sharks, which was the most incredible experience. We both learnt how to snorkel properly and experienced our first seaplane adventure. Pictures don’t do the Maldives justice; the island we stayed on was beautiful and the staff made the honeymoon perfect.”

hese lovebirds met at Michigan State University, where Brandon completed his degree and Kayleigh finished law school. After a quick first date over coffee, the couple continued to talk but lost touch over time. In January 2020, right before COVID-19, they ran into each other at a bar. They met up for lunch the next day and have been inseparable ever since. Brandon proposed a year later at the Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club on Kayleigh’s birthday. April is a sad month for her family because her grandparents passed away four years apart the day after her birthday. Brandon wanted to bring joy back to her Aprils and proposed during what Kayleigh thought was a family dinner. Brandon walked her to the 9th hole of the golf course, where a photographer was waiting. He dropped to one knee, leaving his bride-to-be speechless! Here Kayleigh shares details about their special day… 39

hese lovebirds met through mutual friends in the summer of 2010 when they were just 16. “Lewis was a cheeky, pretty boy but also very loving and caring”, shares Lucy. Lewis proposed in August 2021, during a barbecue at Lucy’s parents’ house. She says, “It was a complete surprise; we were taking a group photo when Lewis ran out to the front and got down on one knee!” The couple set the wedding date for September 16th 2023, and planned a wonderful day from start to finish. Here, Lucy shares details about their special day... 45

Lulworth Castle was the first and last venue we viewed. We immediately fell in love with the venue and didn’t need to look elsewhere. The grounds were gorgeous, with many photographic backdrops around every corner.

Our white buttercream cake featured a ‘Mr and Mrs Sheldon’ topper with flowers.

Elegant gold heart place names hung off the stem of the prosecco glasses.

The centrepieces were elegant with white blooms and green foliage in tall clear vases. 46

Lewis wore black trousers, a bow tie and a coloured jacket, which matched his groomsmen.

Disco balls in the evening were hung from the steel in the castle.

After getting ready, I felt so pretty! It was lovely seeing the hair and make-up come together.

I purchased my gown from Chameleon Bride; I loved the corset top with the fishtail bottom! The 3D lace made it more modern, and I had many compliments on my dress.

The bridesmaids wore a champagne satin dress, which matched the groomsmen’s attire.

We had a saxophonist entertain guests at the drinks reception by playing Ibiza hits!

I surprised everyone, including Lewis, with singing waiters who were absolutely incredible – it was the best part about the whole day and guests were blown away!

Seeing each other for the first time at the end of the aisle and, of course, having all our favourite people in one room simultaneously was really special! 47

We’ve planned a two-week honeymoon in December on a Caribbean cruise! We have many excursions booked, including a sunset catamaran cruise in St Lucia and dolphin watching in Martinique.

One of the singing waiters was posing as an Australian, which caught the attention of an actual Aussie at the wedding who spoke to her for about 20 minutes about the country. The actual Aussie was very sad when she learned the waiter was from London – it was so funny!

aroline Pass at Front Page Print has been involved in the Sturminster Newton Wedding Fair since the first one in 2022 and then again in February 2023 as an exhibitor/co-organiser. After the second fair, it was apparent it needed more dedicated time and marketing to help it succeed. So, Caroline proposed she take over the event with her husband, David. They met Lou and Colin at The Old Milking Parlour to propose a styled shoot at the venue to help promote the fair. Caroline says, “I wanted to feature the little details that make a wedding as individual as the nearlyweds and some of the wonderful suppliers attending the show. We wanted the shoot to be filled with fun and laughter – we achieved just that!” 51

his stunning shoot occurred at a beautiful new wedding venue overlooking The Royal Pier, Southampton – The Bugle. Having been abandoned for 11 years, the Victorian townhouse has now been fully renovated from head to toe and given a new lease of life with a real fusion of old elegance and playful modern décor. The shoot’s concept was to combine the old-world glamour of the venue with a luxurious, modern and romantic feel. The florals and colour palette were soft and romantic, combining pale pinks, peaches and white to create a classically charming tablescape design. The venue styling was timelessly beautiful with modern elements, such as twisted taper candles. The flowers were elegant with a modern, unstructured look while the cake featured a classic white design with uneven tiers and wild florals for a modern edge. In keeping with the rest of the design, the model had a super glamorous but feminine look. The gown was a Jane Hill design, the epitome of luxury contemporary looks. Featuring a strapless boned bodice with a sweetheart neckline, layering around the bust, delicate buttons down the back and a full skirt with a high leg slit – it oozed glamour and class. Hollywood curls and classic make-up were chosen to fit the overall luxury feel, with gold jewellery complementing the warm, lavish golds used in the table design. The groom looked dapper in a classic tux and was the perfect match for the bride.

WINTER WINDS How can I ensure I look my best for our big day? My advice for December wedding hairstyles would be an up-do because of contributing factors such as rain, frost and high winds. If you’re not a fan of wearing your hair up, always remember you can soften the look as

Find photos of brides you love with similar skin tones and hair colour as yours! You might love what bronzey oranges look like on a tanned bride, but it may look too dark or red for those with fair skin. It’s the same with hair! Blonde highlighted hair is always going to show more texture than someone with dark brunette locks. Figure out what you love about each look if you have multiple images. Is it the glowing skin, how the eyes are done, the colour of the lips or the amount of blush? For hair pictures, do you like the volume, the type of curl, the texture or how sleek it is? Bring a photo of how you like your hair or make-up daily and for a special occasion, especially if you don’t usually wear much product. This will help your supplier decide how to make you feel confident and beautiful. Many suppliers like myself always have a visual of what will suit you, so be open-minded to discussing and trying it out. We know how to highlight the best of your features, but don’t be afraid to be honest! How you feel about yourself is the most essential part, and sometimes you can’t go without that winged liner because that’s what you’re used to. As a hair and make-up artist working with brides for the last 23 years, I’ve found that each couple has decided on their wedding time for many different reasons. Firstly, check what times are available for your wedding! You’ll need to consider travel if you have two separate venues for the ceremony and reception. Think about how long you’d like for photos after the wedding, so it doesn’t feel rushed. Next, find out when you can have food served at your reception. Also, consider how long you’d like to mingle with your guests during the day and what gaps you’d like to take everything in. For some brides, getting ready in the morning is an integral part of the day. Some with a larger wedding party may prefer to get up less early. An afternoon wedding might be ideal if that’s the case, whereas morning ceremonies work well for nearlyweds who want minimal help with the look and will likely be up early. If you have a photographer in the morning to take photos while getting ready or for the dress reveal shot, you’ll need to be ready a little earlier than usual. WINTER CLASSIC We’re having a winter wedding and would love to incorporate the season into our cake. Do you have any ideas? The classic designs for winter weddings tend to be white or neutral tones with stunning simple designs, elaborate floral accents or a woodland theme. However, I love to make designs that are different. This wonderful couple wanted to incorporate their dogs into their big day unexpectedly, and what better way than the actual cake? After chatting about what they wanted, I suggested their dogs each hold the end of a ribbon, with the rings hanging between them. We added a sage green dickie bow and a white rose to match their wedding colours. Dare to be brave and bring more of yourselves into the cake for that extra wow factor. I’ve also added personal touches, such as a couple alongside their motorcycle and newlyweds with their parrot! In terms of flavours, most don’t tend to have fruit cake anymore and opt for flavours like salted caramel or white chocolate and raspberry. Opting

Most brands are making a conscious effort to be more sustainable and typically mention this on their websites.

How do you recommend styling my hair for the big day? The big day is all about you looking and feeling your best. Go with whatever makes you feel most confident. Our recommendation is to go for a timeless style; your pictures are going to last a lifetime and will remind you of one of the best days of your life, so it’s important that you choose a style that you’re happy with.

What do you consider to be the biggest development in men’s hair in the past five years, and what do you think will be the next big trend? We think it’s within the formulations that are being used. In the past couple of years, consumers have trusted brands, and they weren’t asking any questions. More recently, men have become more aware of the good and bad ingredients and, as such, are looking for them in the products they use. If a brand is quiet about their formulation and/or what they’re putting in their products, the likelihood is that their ingredients are probably not the best for your hair. One in four men in their 30s experiences male pattern baldness. What tips or advice can you give to help men look after their hair and delay this onset? We have noticed that a lot of this comes down to the lifestyle that men have. It’s crucial to make sure that your body is getting the vitamins and nutrients it needs, as this impacts how the body reacts to hair growth. We suggest that males experiencing baldness try taking supplements that strengthen their hair and help it grow back to its potential. This will slow down the balding

process and give men a chance to keep their hair looking its best and, most importantly, feeling its best.

RAFTING ON THE MARTHA BRAE Board one of the bamboo rafts at Rafting on the Martha Brae and gently float down a five-kilometer (three-mile) calm stretch of river just a few miles inland from the historic town of Falmouth. The trip lasts just over an hour and each raft accommodates two adults and up to two small children, with passengers sitting on a throne adorned with colorful flowers. The experience has attracted a number of famous figures over the years, including Queen Elizabeth II, Spike Lee, Kenny Rodgers, Johnny Cash, and Usain Bolt.

Louise Prance enjoys her inaugural visit to Italy, discovering the delights of Sardinia with a stay at the impressive Forte Village

or many, when you think ‘honeymoon’ you think white sands, clear seas, sunshine and an abundance of rest and relaxation. But, if you’re anything like me, sometimes you need a little bit more – enter Forte Village, Sardinia. A self-confessed travel addict with eternal wanderlust, I’m ashamed to say that my recent visit to Sardinia was my virgin voyage to Italy. And what an error or judgement that was. Just a hop, skip and a very short two-hour flight from the UK it was clear from touch down that Sardinia lived up to the Italian dream stereotype and then some.

For me, the focus on health and fitness was an instant draw, there are, wait for it, a whopping 11 pools, a gym, tennis club – the resort offers exciting events such as lessons with tennis legends – football pitches, boxing arena and climbing wall – which induced a severe bout of FOMO from my climbing-obsessed partner back in the UK. If that’s not enough, there’s a plethora of fitness classes available in the ‘FIT-ZONE’ including the likes of HIIT and yoga.

RESPLENDENT IN ITS BEAUTY

The focus on fun doesn’t stop at the exercise offerings, with there being something for all the family. Heading off on a Familymoon? The kids club feels like a separate resort in itself with its own swimming pool, Mario’s Village and, my personal favourite, life-sized Barbie Dreamhouse. Fancy some family activities to enjoy together? The on-site Go Karting and Bowling tick that box nicely.

Those looking for the aforementioned honeymoon vision of sun, sea and sand would be hard pushed to beat this beautiful destination. Giving off Greek island vibes, Sardinia is resplendent in its beauty, with the softest white beaches, dream-like crystal clear oceans, and an impressive history – there are Roman ruins at archaeological site Nora and a network of underground grottos some 530 million years old at the Caves of Is Zuddas, to explore. And of course, there’s the food. With Italy known for its cuisine, Sardinia didn’t disappoint, and neither did the culinary offerings at Forte Village – a resort set in a whopping 50 acres in the South of Sardinia.

FITNESS FIRST While of course exploring the island is a must-do recommendation, when you stay at Forte Village, you really won’t feel like you’ve missed out if you decide to stay put. Village by name, village by nature, the resort emulates a quintessential small Italian town, with residents getting around either by foot or on the quaint bikes provided, where the 21 restaurants (with three boasting Michelin stars) being just the beginning of what’s

own space, being just a stone’s throw from the white sandy beach and breakfast restaurant.

Back to newlywed life, Forte Village’s spa is its shining glory. Loved by the Italian National Football Team, the Thalassotherapy Circuit was perhaps one of the most memorable spa experiences I’ve ever had. Offering six Thalasso pools, the circuit is designed to follow a pre-designed route to generate optimum health benefits. My personal favourite? Pool number one was a magnesium-heavy sea oil pool heated to a balmy 38c. Wearing an inflatable neck pillow you’re encouraged to simply float in the water, which is effortless thanks to the high salinity. I challenge anyone to leave the pool after the recommended 20 minutes feeling anything other than heavenly. The further five pools offer similar blissful experiences, which were only surpassed by the spa treatment I received after. The treatment rooms are set amongst the trees in a private tropical garden, with floor-to-ceiling (one-way) windows providing an awe-inspiring setting. My full body mud treatment left me feeling rejuvenated and relaxed, ready to take on another day in paradise.

For me, a getaway is not complete without a water-based excursion, and Sardinia offers ocean activities galore. However, always up for trying something new, I jumped at the chance to be taken out on a Jeep safari up the Monte Santo di Pula. Led by a knowledgeable guide, we bumped our way to the top of the mountain to take in some wow-factor views. We were then met by local Shephard Roberto, who did a demonstration under the forest canopy of how his family continue to make pecorino the traditional way. Coupled with some delicious red wine and authentic Italian fare, it was a memorable experience. It’s safe to say that Italy didn’t disappoint, with the Sardinian town of Cagliari being a wonderful final destination to explore. And while it may have been my first venture to the country, it certainly won’t be my last. Intoxicated by the setting, people, food and culture, Sardinia, and Forte Village, is a destination that should rank highly on your honeymoon shortlist.

DOWN TIME The endless fitness, spa, food and activity choices aren’t the only things you’ll no doubt have the pleasure of deciding upon at Forte Village, with the accommodation options as wonderfully expansive as the rest of the resort offerings. There are a selection of hotels, suites and bungalows dotted around, each with their own restaurant and pool. The decision between beach front, private garden, terrace, or balcony is where the difficulty will end, with each choice being as decadent as the next. So, it was only right for us to check it out for our couples.
