DE VERE BEAUMONT ESTATE COMPLETES MULTIMILLION-POUND REFURBISHMENT

De Vere Beaumont Estate in Old Windsor, part of De Vere’s collection of country estate hotels, has today unveiled the final phase of its grand transformation with the completion of refurbishment works to its bedrooms, the Beaumont Restaurant and indoor swimming pool, which concludes a £25 million investment into the hotel.

The final stage of work has seen the remaining 28 bedrooms and suites at De Vere Beaumont Estate completely updated, meaning that now all 429 rooms offer a new luxurious, relaxed, and contemporary design while retaining the estate’s original features, bringing the mansion house in line with De Vere’s distinctly British aesthetic.

The White House bedrooms are complete with luxurious facilities including walk-in showers, roll-top baths, fluffy robes and slippers, classic Roberts radios, Penhaligon toiletries and smart TVs. Guests dining at the property can also enjoy a refreshed new look in the Beaumont Restaurant which has been updated with new tables, chairs, carpets and buffet serving units. This sits alongside the recently refurbished 1705 Restaurant, with menus that celebrate the best of British cuisine.

Venue director Darren McGhee commented: “We’re thrilled with the results of the final refurbishments at De Vere Beaumont Estate. The feedback from our guests has been extremely positive and the entire team is looking forward to continuing to build on our existing success.”

In 2018, the hotel unveiled the results of the first phase of a £12 million refurbishment which included the creation of new luxury bedrooms and a top-to-toe refurbishment of much of the property, including the hotel’s 45 event spaces. This saw a refresh of the hotel’s Grade II listed, 19th-century chapel, with an ornate painted ceiling and stained-glass windows which was returned to its former glory. The Chapel now provides a striking and unique backdrop to events, from weddings to celebratory dinners for up to 200 guests.

THE 10 MOST INSTAGRAMMED WEDDING VENUES ARE REVEALED

With more than 278,000 UK weddings expected to take place this year, there’s no doubt that couples across the country are scrolling through Instagram in search of inspiration. With this in mind, Aura Print (https://aura-print.com) has discovered the 10 most Insta-worthy and beautiful wedding venues in the UK by searching Instagram to discover which venue was being talked about the most. Luxury wedding venue Hedsor House in Buckinghamshire was number 2 on the list. To find out more about weddings at this property, visit www.hedsor.com

The rebrand also unveils the PoB hotels gift vouchers that can be personalised and purchased as a luxury gift pack including a reusable travel bag, a copy of The Directory book and a stylish gift wallet. For an instant gift, the voucher can be sent digitally presenting the perfect opportunity for guests to give the gift of luxury to their loved ones. Each gift voucher can be redeemed at any of the hotels across the British Isles. PoB Hotels will also launch The Collection, a beautiful book.

PoB Hotels is committed to responsible travel and the importance of sustainable practices across its hotels and has partnered with EarthCheck, the world’s leading scientific benchmarking certification, and advisory group for travel and tourism to develop environmental good practices and certification for hotel members, and company-wide regenerative practices. Sue Williams, general manager of Whatley Manor has been elected their sustainability brand ambassador and guide and PoB Hotels is aiming to have more members embark on becoming carbon responsible.

CEO Kalindi Juneja added: “Our existing guests will continue to see the familiar sense of our passion to serve. We have taken time to assess what our guests love about us so we can amplify that whilst also looking at what we can improve. The new PoBHotels look is clean, fresh, and more reflective of what the membership has evolved into.”

WADDESDON REVEAL JOANA VASCONCELOS: WEDDING CAKE

Wedding Cake - a 12-metre-high

sculptural pavilion in the form of a three-tiered wedding cake, clad entirely in more than 25 thousand ceramic tiles - is a major new work by celebrated Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos opening at Waddesdon in Buckinghamshire on 8 June 2023.

Part sculpture, part architectural garden folly, Wedding Cake is an extraordinary, enormous, fully immersive sculpture which combines pâtisserie and architecture. Gleaming and icing-like outside and in, it offers an intricate and richly sensory experience – glazed in pale pinks, greens, and blues, beset with sculptural ornament and complete with the sounds of trickling water and a site-specific lighting scheme. Wedding Cake is Vasconcelos’ most ambitious commission to date, described by the artist as “a temple to love that celebrates festivity and marriage (artist’s impression, right).

THE RANDOLPH HOTEL ENJOYS RECENT RENOVATION

The Randolph Hotel, a 151-room property in Oxford has enjoyed a recent renovation with a redesign of the common spaces, the lobby and guest rooms, as well as the introduction of a new spa. Bold hues, architectural elements and locally inspired art bring to life the narratives of Oxford’s past.

Led by executive chef Chris Emery, The Alice is the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant and bar, serving classic British dishes. Additional spaces include The Snug, The Morse Bar (a local favourite), The Drawing Room and The Lancaster Room, where the signature afternoon tea is served.

The illustrator John Broadley created the menu artwork featured throughout the hotel, taking inspiration from the celebrated British cartoonist Osbert Lancaster, a former resident of the hotel who paid for his keep-in paintings. The illustrations unite Emery’s menu, the city of Oxford and ideas from the story Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Local attractions include gin and whisky tasting at Oxford Gin Distillery, an interactive class led at the hotel by the Oxford Soap Company, and a floral workshop by The Garden of Oxford.

The Randolph Hotel is redefining wellness by partnering with Made For Life Organics to offer an incredible selection of holistic and therapeutic wellness services. Inside the Wellness Centre, guests can relax in our steam, sauna and sensation shower or get pampered in one of our four private treatment rooms.

Beautiful barns

We open the doors to some of the finest barn wedding venues

RACKLEY’S CHILTERN HILLS, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE

This luxury wedding barn has a long history dating back more than 300 years. It has been fully restored, now benefitting from underfloor heating and air conditioning throughout, and natural light floods the airy space, especially in the glass conservatory that showcases sweeping views of the Chilterns and leads out to the sun-filled York Terrace with ample seating where guests can enjoy a cocktail reception at sunset. The south-facing wall with a floor-to-ceiling window draped in fairylights makes a stunning backdrop for couple portraits.

The seven acres of rolling grounds provide ample opportunity for garden games. A fantastic photo opportunity in the courtyard is the illuminated millstones water feature and this area also houses a colourful, manicured garden. The wildflower meadow with pathways winding down to the fields below, where nature thrives, also provides a picturesque backdrop and there’s also a pergola lit up with fairylights.

Ceremonies and receptions take place in the south-facing main barn that seats up to 120 guests under oak beams draped with festoon lighting,

creating a romantic ambience. Smaller ceremonies of up to 60 loved ones can enjoy the Upstairs Gallery and micro-wedding ceremonies of up to 20 guests are best suited to the Meeting Room. There’s also an outdoor undercover option on the York Terrace for an intimate gathering of just eight people.

When a wedding is booked, the couple is offered the option of a complimentary food tasting and also a luxury goodie bag. There’s ample car parking on-site for 62 cars with an allocated registrar and disabled parking plus a ground floor disabled toilet with baby change facilities and highchairs available on request.

UFTON COURT, READING, BERKSHIRE

This 16th-century timber-framed tithe barn and Grade I listed manor house is nestled in 16 acres of manicured grounds located on the Berkshire/Hampshire border. An impressive sweeping driveway lined with ancient oak trees leads to this hidden gem and in addition to the expertly landscaped grounds, Ufton Court is home to a small valley and a traditional herb garden.

The interior of the tithe barn offers a wonderfully romantic atmosphere with the traditional oak beams decorated with ivy and fairylights. It’s a blank canvas that can be transformed to suit any wedding theme. Ceremonies and receptions take place here for 15 to 150 guests or in Archer’s Hall located opposite the barn in the courtyard which holds up to 80 loved ones. After the wedding breakfast, tea and coffee can be enjoyed in the Archer’s Hall and this space can be used again later as a quiet area for guests to relax and chat.

The Long Room in the Tudor Manor House is best suited to micro weddings and intimate gatherings of up to 50 people. These three

reception rooms create a cosy and character-filled location for drinks receptions in the colder months and there are three locations for an outdoor wedding during the warmer months.

The venue offers an extensive list of recommended suppliers including a choice of six caterers, plus there’s a highly experienced wedding coordinator on hand and no corkage charge.

The stately dressing room and oak-panelled library marry old and new, retaining its original features and offering a hint of grandeur for the bridal party on the morning of the wedding.

Emily and Mike’s wedding at Stanlake Park Wine Estate in Berkshire enjoyed a rustic-inspired theme with touches handmade by their loved ones

Images courtesy of Paige Mary Photography

28
Emily and Mike West married on 10th April 2022 at Stanlake Park Wine Estate in Berkshire.

Mike and Emily have been friends since secondary school where they met through mutual friends. They became engaged after nine years of dating on 4th December 2020 during the peak of the lockdown. “This was the first Christmas in our new house together and Mike wanted to give us a happy end to the year,” Emily tells us. “Because we couldn’t go anywhere, he ordered food from our favourite Thai takeaway which we enjoyed in our pyjamas and matching king and queen dressing gowns and just as we were finishing, Mike presented me with a small ornament with the message ‘when the world stayed apart, together was our favourite place to be’ designed to be hung on our Christmas tree. He then took a ring from his pocket and I burst into happy tears!”

SETTING THE SCENE

The couple loved the rustic feel of Stanlake Park Wine Estate. “The opportunity to hold our wedding day at a vineyard was appealing to us and it’s only a 20-minute drive from our house making it the perfect location,” Emily tells us. I felt surprisingly relaxed on the day itself and enjoyed getting ready with my bridesmaids and parents at the venue. The nerves eventually kicked in when they told me it was time to walk down the aisle, but as soon as I saw Mike, the nerves disappeared and the excitement kicked in.”

They decorated their day with elegant white and rustic-inspired décor. “We took the option of having lights draped through the rafters of the reception room. On reflection, we felt this made a big impact and it looked stunning.” Emily says. “We created a map of the world table plan which highlighted some of the countries that we had visited together over the years because we love to travel, and our table names were based on these. We displayed a couple of photographs of us in that country on each table and we made personalised champagne glasses for each guest filled with sweets as place names which doubled up as favours. I created our floral centrepieces displayed in copper wire baskets decorated with fairylights and placed them on log slices which had a different Disney quote carved around the edge on each one.”

Emily and Mike used their local florist to create their bouquets and arrangements using anemones, eucalyptus and roses and Emily’s cousin made their delicious wedding cake. “It was great to involve our loved ones in our wedding,” Emily says. “My mum made our wedding stationery and my friend, Tasha did my hair.”

LOOKING THE PART

Emily chose a lace dress by Essence of Australia. “I was not expecting to choose the style I did but when I tried it on, I knew it was the one and so did my Mum,” Emily says. “I accessorised it with a diamanté belt, a silver bracelet and a pair of silver and pearl earrings. I wore a long veil decorated with pearls which complemented the long train on my dress.”

Mike and his best man and two groomsmen wore navy suits teamed with buttonholes and Mike had a pair of cufflinks that were a gift from Emily personalised with his initials. “They also wore red ties that matched our bridesmaids’ dresses which were floor-length Sorella Vita gowns in the shade called Sangria featuring a high neck which suited both bridesmaids,” Emily tells us.

TIME TO ENTERTAIN

Emily and Mike hired a DJ for their evening entertainment as well as a photo booth which all of their guests seemed to embrace. “We got the best photo album to take home from it,” they tell us. “At the end of the evening, the DJ played The Greatest Day by Take That and all of our guests surrounded us on the dancefloor so that we ended up in a big huddle. We were overwhelmed with emotion and love.”

and Huw met at work and hit it off from the start. “Huw proposed to me during a walk that we love to do near my family home in Buckland,” Beckie tells us. “It was on 15th January 2021 and was a wonderful surprise!”

Beckie wanted to get married close to where she grew up. “I regularly attend the local church service throughout the year so it seemed like the natural choice to get married in,” she tells us. “I wanted the reception to be in Buckland so hiring a marquee offered us that flexibility.”

Here, Beckie tells us all about their special day decorated with a timeless white and green colour theme.

REAL WEDDINGS 35
Beckie and Huw Thomas married on 16th July 2022 at St Mary The Virgin Bampton in Oxfordshire followed by a marquee reception.

Huw hadn’t seen the vintage wedding car that myself and my dad organised which was a wonderful surprise! Travelling to Buckland in it together was one of the highlights of the day because it gave us some time alone to enjoy each other’s company.

Our elegant green and white floral centrepiece arrangements were made by a family friend, Frank, who did an incredible job.

Our cake looked fantastic and tasted delicious!

Getting married and then walking out of the church and seeing all of our loved ones was a really special moment.

We had a circular-shaped top table which worked well and our green place cards had the names hand-written on them in silver. Each one was attached to a napkin with a sprig of rosemary as a symbol of remembrance for those that could not be there. Our favours were small bottles of sloe gin made by Huw’s mum.

Frank also created our other flower arrangements Everybody enjoyed our sweetie table!

The table names were inspired by places that are significant to us both

Bales of hay with

were arranged outside the marquee to provide a seating area with festoon lighting which looked so romantic. We also made a large sofa out of bales of hay which was cool!

I wore a sleeveless halterneck dress from Romantica of Devon which was ideal for a hot day! I teamed my dress with a long veil and a tiara. I also wore a Tiffany & Co. pearl bracelet which was a gift from Huw and a pair of diamond earrings During the evening reception, we hired a DJ who was a local friend and he did an incredible job! Richard and Shelley Terry, previously from The Lamb at Buckland provided our catering and our wedding was their last event. rugs

Katherine (Katie) and Matthew (Matt) Lovegrove married on 12th August 2022 at Lillibrooke Manor in Maidenhead.

Katie and Matt met online while Katie was working in Amsterdam and Matt was living in the UK, with Katie soon due to be relocating back home to the UK. “We exchanged plenty of messages in the month or so before we met in person and then had our first date,” Katie tells us. “Our sense of humour and values were our biggest attractions! I noticed how kind Matt was and we both wanted the same things out of life. Our first date flew by with no awkward moments and by our third date, we both knew each other was the one.”

Matt proposed on Christmas Eve 2020 (Katie’s favourite day of the year), after a dog walk. “There was a Christmas decoration under the tree in a box that said ‘Katie, will you marry me’ which was a complete surprise to me!” she tells us. It was a Christmas that we were due to host in our new home which got cancelled due to the pandemic so this added some cheer!”

SETTING THE SCENE

The couple knew that they wanted a wedding venue with a relaxed feel. “We liked the variety

of spaces, the beautiful barns and the gorgeous gardens available at Lillibrooke Manor and felt it would fit the atmosphere for our fun and relaxed wedding day!”

Their ceremony was written, and delivered by celebrant Sam Dobson. “It was very personal to us and many of our guests commented that they’d never heard such a personal ceremony before,” Katie tells us. “There was plenty of laughter and happy tears and it included our dog walking down the aisle and then signing the marriage certificate along with both of our mums! Matt insisted that he get to ‘walk down the aisle’ too, so he walked arm in arm with his best man, Kenny to one of their favourite songs by The 1975 – the laughter started from then and set the vibe for our fun, relaxed day!”

The couple chose bright colours as their theme along with cheerful, seasonal flowers. “We had beautiful colourful centrepieces that mirrored the colour in these blooms,” Katie says. “We kept our table plan simple and rustic-inspired with our table names after our favourite films (most of Matt’s were checked by me because they were horror films!) So, after some negotiation, the top table was one of our joint favourite films, The Pursuit of Happyness.”

The couple chose festoon lighting and giant light-up letters to display throughout the Great Barn. “We also had an ice cream cart after our ceremony during the drinks reception which not only looked fantastic but was a great choice because it was a hot day!” They explain. “It offered our guests five different flavours of ice cream plus two sorbets and we also served ice-cold cider in personalised bottles.”

Katie and Matt chose a barbecue for their wedding breakfast served on sharing platters. “Matt lived in Australia during some of his teenage years and loves a barbecue, plus it added to the relaxed feel of our special day,” Katie says. “This was followed by nine different wedding cakes made by my cousin in three different flavours including Pimms and passionfruit; chocolate and cherry; and coffee, walnut and caramel.”

LOOKING THE PART

Katie wore an ivory dress by Madison James accessorised with a beautiful, sparkly veil. “The dress wasn’t at all what I was expecting to pick but my mum and maid-of-honour encouraged me to try it on and as soon as I did, we all burst into happy tears so I just knew it was the one,” Katie tells us. “I wanted to feel like myself on the big day so I wore a pair of turquoise and yellow flip-flops all day and my nails were colourful too with bright blue and orange on my fingers and blue on my toes.” Katie also wore a necklace, earrings and bracelet set featuring small silver hearts with some of the flowers of her bouquet etched onto them. “I loved this personal touch,” she says.

Matt chose a blue suit, white shirt and orange tie while the couple’s seven bridesmaids wore multi-way dresses. “I wanted them to feel comfortable and relaxed so they could style their dresses how they wanted and they were all matching in a bold blue colour.”

TIME TO CELEBRATE

Katie organised surprise singing waiters to perform during the wedding breakfast which was a surprise to their guests and Matt too! “They were a highlight of the day because the singing was spectacular and they got the party started. People were dancing on chairs and doing the conga outside – it was an amazing moment when they revealed who they were!”

During the evening, the couple’s photographer, Loren, supplied a photo booth with plenty of dressing-up items by the bar. “Some of the photos of this are hilarious!” Katie tells us. “We also had a DJ to entertain our guests throughout the evening who kept the dancefloor packed – I didn’t stop dancing all night!”

FABULOUSLY

Big-day blooms have never looked so pretty floral

Sonning Flowers, Berkshire

The talented team explain how hanging installations are becoming bigger and bolder and they’re not only for large budgets, many couples are trying to focus on having a few wow-factor statement features rather than placing flowers everywhere. This hanging install that they created for a summery marquee wedding looked so beautiful, and the gin and wine bottles filled with flowers are also very popular - larger-headed flowers such as hydrangeas make a great impact.

 Dahlias are becoming increasingly popular and look fantastic in bridal bouquets, especially the soft romantic colour of the café au lait dahlia.

Strictly Eventful Creative Studio

Why not invest in a bespoke floral backdrop for the ceremony? Pretty flower arrangements for the chairs lining the aisle are another idea, or table decorations that complement the flower choices throughout.

Book it: 07776 214 583, @strictlyeventful

 Bud vases and stem vases for wildflower-themed weddings are becoming very popular and these arrangements look great placed on trestle tables and also for repurposing blooms from the ceremony to the reception.

FLOWERS 53

Fable Flowers, Buckinghamshire

 The team are seeing a resurgence of smaller more delicate bridal bouquets. Textural and airy, the petite garden-style bouquet is all about quality over quantity. This means ditching heavy greenery and opting for delicate grasses teamed with pretty focal flower varieties such as cosmos, scabious and clematis.

 It’s all about seasonality this summer - work with the florist to find out about the more unusual stems that are in bloom for the big day. British flowers are becoming more and more popular because wedding couples value sustainability as the Fable Flowers team do. Fleeting seasonal gems are the magic ingredient. For summer blooms, pick bupleurum, alchemilla, ammi and lysimachia.

 Expect bright, bold colour palettes this summer, particularly a bright mix of orange and coral set off against deep purple and lilac hues. This works particularly well in mid-to-late summer with dahlias, garden roses, delphiniums and clematis all in season. Remember that bright colour themes balanced well can still look refined and elegant.

 Early summer brings a bounty of seasonal flowers and colours. The florists at Fable Flowers love working with textural blooms such as ammi, larkspur, scabious and nigella which all add an element of interest, giving that magical element to a bouquet.

FloralCelli Event Flower Specialists, Oxfordshire

For wedding flowers this year, the popular floral choices are still classic white and ivory tones teamed with plenty of mixed foliage, which suits any colour theme that couples may choose for their decoration and other accessories, such are bridesmaids’ dresses, suits and favours.

THE FINAL FINISHING TOUCH

Sarah Ashleigh Designs Flower Preservation, Buckinghamshire

Sarah tells us, "I look after the entire preservation process. Brides book in via my website by choosing from a range of shapes and designs and sending me their bouquets, normally via post, as soon as they can after their wedding. The flowers are then dried as soon as possible to capture their beauty right away and then cast in crystal clear resin. The large block shapes are really popular but I also like to create items that can be used and enjoyed every day such as coasters, ring holders and bottle tops."

Sarah adds, "Last summer’s bouquet styles included classic looks of cream or white with sage so white roses and eucalyptus was a favourite. This year, I think we will see plenty of colours and more statement bouquets, which is perfect for resin as it can enhance colours and make them pop!"

Our experts answer your big-day questions

BRING ME SUNSHINE

Meet the expert: The Turquoise Holiday Company is an upmarket travel company with a focus on luxurious honeymoons, family holidays and once-in-a-lifetime celebrations.

We’re planning our honeymoon and need some inspiration –which far-flung island destinations are looking popular for this year and next?

Jackie Leather, senior marketing manager tells us: There’s something wonderfully romantic about palm-fringed islands and untouched beaches. The magical images conjured at the thought of escaping the hustle and

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Meet the expert: Colette Ashby is a wedding celebrant who has won awards for her services. She creates and performs bespoke ceremonies in Berks, Bucks, Oxon, Hants and the South East.

What are the benefits of having an outdoor celebrant-led ceremony?

bustle of everyday life, that invigorating sense of remoteness, of being anchored away from the mainland – these feelings alone are enough to inspire our honeymooning couples to go in search of their very own desert island. Popular destinations for newlyweds include the Maldives, Saint Lucia, Antigua, Seychelles, The Islands of Tahiti and the Greek islands.

Turquoise Holidays can offer first-hand advice and a friendly helping hand when planning your perfect island honeymoon in 2023 and 2024.

01494 678 400, www.turquoiseholidays.co.uk/honeymoons; www.facebook.com/turquoiseholidays; www.instagram.com/turquoiseholidays

Colette says: Over the past few years, more and more couples are opting for celebrant-led ceremonies. They are fast becoming the go-to choice for today’s couples who want the freedom to pick where, when and how they marry.

One of the main benefits of having a celebrant officiate at your wedding ceremony is that you can tie the knot almost anywhere – you have complete freedom of choice over your venue, time and ceremony content. Outdoor ceremonies are a growing trend amongst couples wanting to say ‘I do’ in a beautiful and natural setting.

So what are your options for an outdoor ceremony? The only limit is your imagination! Most traditional wedding venues have gorgeous gardens that can be transformed into a stunning ceremony space and, of course, you have nature as your backdrop.

When deciding on your venue for a celebrant-led wedding, you have more choice than you may realise, as you don’t have to get married in a licensed venue. Imagine exchanging vows on a beautiful beach or in a wild woodland glade. You can even hold your ceremony in your back garden as many people choose to do. What could be more special?

How about a super-relaxed ceremony in a field with a marquee or tipi for the reception, mobile catering and chilled-out guests? Nothing formal, just friends, family, fun and the beautiful English countryside.

Outdoor ceremonies can be lavish – think fabulous flower arches and an aisle created from rose petals, or maybe simple and rustic is more your style. Of course, there are factors to consider with an outdoor ceremony, (not least the weather) and this is where your celebrant will guide and advise you every step of the way.

Wherever you decide to marry, choose a celebrant to create and conduct a bespoke outdoor ceremony with a touch of sparkle.

SNAP HAPPY

Meet the expert: Chris Goodchild is the founder of The Best Photobooths, #makingmemories based in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. They offer a bespoke design service as well as a range of photo booths including The Best Vintage Booth and The Best Love Heart Booth. The company won Best Photobooth Hire service in Buckinghamshire from LuxLife Global Wedding awards.

We want to surprise our guests with some wow-factor wedding entertainment that they haven’t seen at previous weddings. What do you suggest?

Chris says: We have two new products that are proving to be super popular this year. Firstly, there’s the “PUT A RING ON IT” audio guestbook that’s perfect for weddings, parties, and other special events. Brilliant in its simplicity, it offers a fun way for guests to leave voicemail messages on your special day or occasion. They simply pick up the phone, leave a message after the tone, then hang up and keep on dancing! This is the perfect alternative guest book, providing unforgettable, lifelong memories.

The second new launch that we’re offering for weddings this year is the BOHO Magic Mirror Frame that’s perfect for any boho-inspired ceremony. It has recently been super popular for barn settings.

A WAY WITH WORDS

Meet the expert: Olukemi Elebute is a calligrapher and engraver and the founder of Ribbon and Scripts based in Milton Keynes.

How can we personalise our wedding with calligraphy?

Olukemi says: There’s nothing more stunning and bespoke than handwritten details for your wedding celebration. In a digital-driven world, the sight of ink on paper creates a unique, beautiful, and captivating experience for your wedding or event. Not only does it add a personal touch to your event, but it also adds a stylish touch, thereby making your guests feel special and welcome.

Digital calligraphy – Create a custom hand-written design which is delivered as a digital file and can be used on various elements of your wedding. Stationery and invites, signage, napkins, souvenirs, albums, and any other imaginable aspect of your wedding.

Envelope addressing - Build a personal connection with your guests by creating beautiful hand-written names with your choice of calligraphy scripts on your wedding envelopes. The custom ink colour and flourished letters set the tone of the event and give the guests a sense of belonging.

Day of details - Add a special touch to your elegant affair by creating

HANDS-ON ENTERTAINMENT

Meet the expert: Silhouette Sarah is a silhouette artist who performs at weddings and events.

We’re having a large wedding so how can we keep our guests entertained throughout the wedding breakfast and into the evening?

beautiful hand-written names on the place and escort cards. This gives you a good table plan that sits the right people together. It curbs the problem of people turning up uninvited and taking seats intended for guests and you worry less about communication with catering staff for guest meals ordered prior. You can rest assured that your beautiful décor won’t be ruined as this makes the ceremony organised and stress-free.

Hand engraving - Create a lasting memory and legacy around your union by adapting to keepsake objects so they become an heirloom that you cherish forever. Engraving a wedding day scent for the bride, groom or parents of the couple is one that will instantly take you back to your special day. The hand-engraved bottle is a unique unforgettable item; a special memory to keep forever.

Wedding vows and letters – Delight yourselves by conveying unsaid words in a beautiful piece. This not only builds a lasting relationship with your partner but also becomes a keepsake that’s treasured forever. Hiring a calligrapher to help write your vows solves the problem of not projecting often how you truly feel through words, it saves you time and allows you to focus on other things for your big day and makes you worry less about writing long words yourself.

www.ribbonsandscripts.co.uk; www.instagram.com/ribbonsandscripts

Sarah says: If you have been lucky enough to see a silhouette artist perform at a wedding then you’ll know that not only is this a rare art form but also that silhouette cutting is a great way of entertaining guests at weddings, keeping them entertained during the photographs. It’s a good icebreaker too because I walk around the guests and chat with them whilst cutting paper portraits freehand using nothing but scissors. Think of vintage cameos like Jane Austin’s trademark silhouette or Mrs Whistledown’s silhouette in Bridgerton - each one is cut freehand using nothing but a pair of scissors with no drawing first, or other trickery. Each silhouette is a flattering likeness of the person whatever the age so everyone will be wanting one and I can cut approximately 70 silhouettes in three hours, creating fabulous favours.

There are many benefits to booking a silhouette artist and here are just a few:

They are rare, so not many guests would have seen them before.

It’s a sustainable material and a great keepsake that guests can cherish for a lifetime.

They are individually personalised to each guest and bear a flattering resemblance.

BAN THE BLOAT

Professional nutritionists Wedding Wellness explain how to avoid untimely bloating on your wedding day

Oneof the most common digestive complaints is bloating, an uncomfortable, sometimes heavy sensation that can follow after eating a meal that for some, also results in feeling tired, unable to concentrate and having a physically noticeable bloated tummy. Not symptoms you want to endure on any day, let alone on one as special as your wedding.

There are many possible causes of bloating, some of which come with additional digestive complaints such as pain, constipation and flatulence – usually an indication of poor gut health. These symptoms are usually referred to as IBS by doctors, but may also be the result of intolerances, allergies or other gut disease. There are however some simple, everyday things you can consider to help reduce that after-meal bloat. County Wedding Magazines’ beauty and wellness editor, Kelly Andrews, chatted to Minal Sudra and Elizabeth Andrews from Wedding Wellness to find out more.

CHEW PROPERLY

Most of us chow down through conversation, mid emails or in front of the telly without giving much thought to chewing our food. But, there are enzymes in the mouth that kick start digestion and if you haven’t allowed enough time for them to work in the mouth, it can make life more difficult for the rest of the gut to properly break down food, leading to irritation and bloating. Aim to chew each bite 20 to 30

times to allow the gut to digest with ease.

EAT AWAY FROM DISTRACTIONS

Focussing on food in front of you not only helps you to taste it better, your brain also has the chance to engage with what you see and smell before the first bite. Without the distraction of something else, potentially stressful, such as work emails, social media, or the latest crime drama on TV, your body is in a state of calm referred to as “rest and digest,” which is optimal at meal times. An otherwise engaged body won’t produce enough stomach acid to properly break down food, which may result in bloating and irritation. Take a proper lunch break, sit at the dining table without the TV on and put your phone away to allow your gut to concentrate on doing its thing.

START WITH SOMETHING BITTER

Ever wondered why a bitter green salad usually accompanies steak, or mint sauce is served with lamb? Bitter foots such as rocket, kale, chicory, lemon and watercress help kick start the digestive process by encouraging stomach acid production. This is especially important for meals that include fats and red meat, which compared to other foods, take longer to break down. Include raw and bitter foods with a lemon or vinegary dressing to start your meal and help your gut prepare for optimal digestion.

AVOID DRINKING WITH MEALS

It’s important for the stomach to be very acidic when digesting food, but drinking lots of liquid between mouthfuls can lower the concentration of acid, reducing the rate at which the gut digests. It’s recommended to drink 20 to 30 minutes before or after a meal to aid efficient digestion and prevent bloating. If you do like to drink with your food, stick to smaller sips rather than large gulps.

LOOK OUT FOR PATTERNS

If you tend to feel bloated after most meals, take note of what might be causing it. Some common culprits can be gluten or wheat, dairy, sugar, or fat-heavy foods such as red meat and fried foods. Compare how you feel when you don’t eat these items to get an idea of triggers or possible intolerances. Speak to a health professional for tailored advice and support on how to improve your symptoms with functional testing available for further insight.

BOOST YOUR SKIN FROM WITHIN

Raising the bar, St.Tropez’s new Self Tan Luxe Body Serum infused with a unique collagen-enhancing complex, responds to consumer demand for a hydrating, longer-lasting natural glow with skincare benefits. It works to firm, smooth, soothe, reduce redness and even skin tone while instantly hydrating skin in the most easy-to-use format yet. What’s more, it’s infused with the iconic St.Tropez Luxe scent, a fine fragrance with Tritech Olfactory Fragrance Technology, which equals no biscuity smell.

Having learned of its zero transfer attribute I asked Michaella Bolder, St.Tropez tanning and skincare expert, whether she’d recommend this particular product to brides, and if so when would be the best time to apply. She told me, “Yes, it’s a beautiful tan for brides. However, I’d always recommend to apply tan the day before. This way, you can be prepped and make sure you apply evenly without any worries or concerns on the morning of your wedding. It is zero transfer but as the tan starts to take, you want to make sure you’re super-confident, as it comes through over four to eight hours. So, always apply the day, evening or 24 hours before your big day. It leaves you with a beautiful rich, medium glow and with the skin being so hydrated it just beams.”

£35, available at Boots, Superdrug, Look Fantastic, ASOS, Amazon and all leading online retailers.

DAWN ‘TIL DUSK

Left with a hole in my life when my previous primer ran out I was bereft. Until Milk’s Pore Eclipse Mattifying Primer landed on my desk that is. This lightweight water cream makeup primer with skincare benefits claims to blur pores and control shine for a long-lasting soft matte finish, and I can confirm it does just that. It feels fantastic to apply and leaves skin feeling satin smooth. After a long day visiting London recently my foundation looked as good when I arrived home as it did when I left. What’s more, it’s 90 per cent natural, clean, vegan, cruelty-free, noncomedogenic, paraben-free, and silicone-free. I’ve found a new favourite! £31, www.cultbeauty.co.uk

OH-SO NATURAL

Founded in 1996, Ringana is a pioneering Austrian skincare company creating products so fresh it’s recommended they’re used within 10 weeks of opening. As well as using fantastic vegan formulations, the products also feature some of 2023’s most sought after active ingredients. I love the Tinted Moisturiser from the brand’s FRESH range, containing squalane. This olive-oil based ingredient is becoming increasingly popular because it helps to reconstitute our hydrolipidic film and is easily absorbed without leaving an oily residue behind. It works to strengthen the skin’s barrier and maintain hydration too. As a result, this gorgeous moisturiser creates a radiant, perfectly even complexion. Plus, the product covers the skin in a delicate tint, thanks to mineral pigments that adapt beautifully to its tone erasing small defects, redness and pigmentation spots. £40.80 (€46,90), www.ringana.com

L’Eau d’Issey Pivoine is 87 per cent made up of ingredients of natural origin, while this proportion for L’Eau d’Issey pour Home Vétiver is even higher at 93 per cent. These ingredients are exclusively sourced in a manner that respects the principles of fair trade and are responsibly harvested.

Having keenly followed celebs’ ravings about Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream on social media, excitement levels at CWM HQ were high when a tub arrived in the office. Editor Olivia Gibson stepped up to try it, here’s what she had to say:

With skin-loving ingredients including guaraná, cupuaçu butter, coconut oil, açaí oil, Brazil nut and more – this cream is the ultimate body skincare product.” Find it at www.lookfantastic.com, £20

SELF-CARE Soothing

Our Social Media Editor, Gracie Leader, immersed herself in the world of Reiki to find out if the form of meditation can help you remain calm in the lead up to your big day

80

It’sno understatement to say that planning your big day can cause your stress levels to shoot all the way up. Not only are you spending a great deal of time (and money) to ensure every little detail is perfect; it also represents a giant life change you are about to experience with your partner.

That’s why, in the lead up to your nuptials, practicing self-care is more important than ever. Whilst self-care can look different for everyone (exercising, eating healthily or reading) one form of mindfulness you may not have thought of before is reiki.

Reiki is best known as a form of Complementary Therapy that focuses on energy healing. It works with the energy fields around the body and involves the transfer of universal energy, to be channelled from the practitioner’s palms to your body.

The thought process behind Reiki is that every living thing and their surrounding atmosphere contains energy, and so this can be channelled in a way to rebalance energy.

For a person, this is within the body and mind to support both your physical and emotional wellbeing. The physical in terms of aches and pains, the emotional in terms of feelings of anxiety and stress.

There is scepticism that surrounds the practice of Reiki. But there is a reason the NHS supports and recommends it as a hospital service and even if you are not a fan of spirituality, there is evidence to suggest Reiki may be useful to help manage mental health conditions, particularly anxiety, stress and depression.

Of course, I couldn’t possibly recommend Reiki without indulging in the self-care practice myself. So, in February, after a hectic and busy start to the year I met with Reiki Master, Georgina Hemsley. Georgina has been practicing Reiki for over 11 years. A qualified therapist, Georgina owned her own salon for 3 years specialising in massage, Reiki and facial treatments and a focus on organic and natural skincare.

“Reiki supports our emotional and mental well-being in many different ways, and can be different for each person, each time, Georgina explained to me. “This is dependent on what a person may be experiencing at the time of receiving reiki or if they have come for a reiki session for a specific reason, for example, to help them, in advance, navigate the sometimes overwhelming process of getting married. We suggest a treatment per month in the run up to your big day so we can support you from the beginning and you can enjoy the entire process right up to when you say I do.”

After getting myself comfortable on the treatment bed, Georgina explained how my body might (or might not) react to the treatment. She told me that some people feel very hot, others feel extremely cold, and some describe seeing bright colours or flashes of light. Georgina warned me it can be an emotional process and to allow any or all feelings to bubble up.

Georgina began the session with some guided mediation including breathwork and manifestation. She asked me to clearly consider my intentions for the rest of 2023 and place them at the front of my mind.

Your intention are vital when practicing reiki. Georgina encouraged me to ask myself “what are my stresses? Is anything troubling me? What would I like to receive?” I learnt, the more direct you can be about your self-healing practice, the more the universe will hear you.

I then received a temple massage to release tension and promote relaxation. This absolutely eased me into the right mindset for the rest of the treatment and allowed me to drift into a world of calm.

For the rest of the hour Georgina got to work – doing what she does best – using a combination of crystals, sound baths, and gentle touches to my pressure points.

At the end of the session Georgina informed me she had spent time rebalancing my chakras – noting my throat chakra was particularly unbalanced. She explained I might feel a difference in the way I communicate in the next few days - wanting to stay quiet or be more vocal.

“During a treatment, I disassociate myself from the physical being of the client. I am an extension of their energy. A vessel if you will,” Georgina explains. “It is not unusual to pick up on their feelings or any pains they may be experiencing during the session. I allow myself to be intuitively guided to move my focus to the parts of the body that need work. I clear this energy and set an intention to balance and instil a sense of calm.”

Whilst everyone sees different results from reiki, I came away from my first treatment feeling relaxed, renewed and with a sense I was better prepared to tackle anything come my way.

I recommend going in with an open mind and allow yourself to fully immerse in the treatment. Although it can’t be guaranteed the treatment will work for everyone, giving yourself an hour to switch off and allow someone else take your worries into their hands, can never be a bad idea.

As Georgina explained to me, she can’t recommend reiki enough for brides-to-be planning their big day. “We all know whilst our wedding is a magical day, the build-up can be very stressful. Reiki healing can help guide you throughout the planning and preparation, reiki will work with you to give you exactly what you need, so you can be very specific on your intention and what you want to gain from the reiki healing,” Georgina explains. “This could be to receive more support from your friends and family, to conquer any last-minute hurdles that arise, to ease your nerves, or to support your energy to feel calm and relaxed throughout.”

Caring for yourself and practicing mindfulness doesn’t always have to be seeking out these treatments however. Not everyone has the time, or indeed money, to meet a reiki master regularly.

Instead, it is important to find what works for you and build it in to your daily routine. Taking elements of Reiki into your self-care routine in the run up to the big day will help you to feel more relaxed and calmer. Self-care for you could reading, journaling or completing your skincare routine.

As Georgina is also the founder of Hemsley Organics she knows the importance of a good skin care routine. “Our Organic skincare can give you a well-deserved serotonin boost and provides an opportunity for mindfulness. Having a morning or evening routine can make you feel happier, as it’s all about the ritual and putting time and energy into making yourself feel good,” she explains. “Implementing a ritual can deepen that sense of well-being and prompt you to take just a little time out for yourself each morning and evening.”

Georgina and her husband Joe created the Anahata Collection to combine Skincare and Reiki. Feel good products that work to balance the plant-based extractions from the manufacturing process. Allowing them to be in their purest state of energy, as nature intended, supercharging them with their natural energies to enhance the efficacy of their benefits and provide a more spiritual skincare experience. BLUSHING BRIDE

What’s trending for wedding make-up looks and colours this summer?

Meet the expert: Rosie Pickup is a professional make-up artist based in Witney, Oxfordshire.

Rosie says: This season’s biggest trend is natural, glossy skin. My favourite way to achieve this look for brides is by using an illuminating primer, with a skin tint on top, and plenty of cream blush. A natural blush pink or peach glossy lipstick will complete the radiant look.

THE COUNTRYEscape to

Thisluxurious country house hotel nestled on a 240-acre estate provides the perfect pick for a mini-moon, honeymoon or even a family-moon. Accessed via gates and a long driveway dotted with wildlife, the elegant white Mansion House takes centre stage. Here, the main rooms that form the bottom floor celebrate the four changing seasons. A stretch tent covers the back terrace, allowing guests to enjoy the scenic surroundings whatever the weather.

DO NOT DISTURB

The stylish suites and bedrooms upstairs in the Mansion House include The Derby Suite which became my home-from-home for the night. It’s a grand offering commanding prime position soaking up far-flung views from the terrace across the wildflower meadow, rose garden, lime grove and polo field. It’s easy to feel like you’re in a world of your own in this spacious one-bedroom retreat boasting an open fireplace, a king-size bed, a dressing area and a freestanding copper bathtub which I dived straight into!

For an exclusive experience, visitors can book the North Lodge or the Dower House, Coworth Park’s two private standalone properties each sleeping up to six people across three bedrooms. Guests can cook for themselves or have a dedicated chef cater for them and accommodation in the Dower House includes access to private gardens with an outdoor dining area enjoying views of the lake (and resident swans!) The stable rooms offer another great option situated in a peaceful village-like setting a short walk from The Mansion House boasting original features and roll-top tubs.

A FOODIE HEAVEN

Food and drink are at the heart of this charming getaway with the best seat in the house at the newly-refurbished Woven by Adam Smith, a Michelin-star restaurant where the interior, along with the bar, reflects the hotel’s landscape and equestrian theme. The seasonally changing menus showcase classic dishes created using only the finest ingredients and flavoured with fresh, hand-picked herbs from the on-site herb garden (a stroll over to this is well worth it and you can spot the beehives in the manicured grounds too!) The two wine cellars ensure the perfect pairing of British wines plus worldwide varieties and mouth-watering cocktails and mocktails. Breakfast in the restaurant’s light-filled conservatory against a backdrop of views of the lush grounds is perfect for lazy mornings. The Coworth Park smoothie made using kiwi and kale followed by the delicious acai bowl provided a healthy start to my day.

A short golf buggy ride away sits The Barn, a rustic-inspired, brasserie-style restaurant housed in the original barn frame. Open to hotel guests and local diners, it’s cosy during the winter months with its working fireplace, atmospheric festoon lighting

and blankets provided, and it’s a must-visit during the warmer months with its wall of front windows. The mezzanine level provides another dining area and bar that’s perfect for private events and the open kitchen reveals the chefs preparing the delicious hearty dishes which include Cotswold white chicken and a plant-based vegan burger served with chunky chips which I tucked into.

For a late-night tipple back at the Mansion House, the elegant drawing room (that also serves afternoon tea in two sittings) regularly hosts resident pianist Greg Canestrari with requests taken!

OASIS OF CALM

A short golf buggy ride away, nestled in a secluded eco-luxury setting is The Spa at Coworth Park. The wellness journey starts from the moment you enter this contemporary, multi-award-winning sanctuary. The variety of must-try treatments include the Relax and Rejuvenate Treatment by Ishga Organic which I indulged in. Highly skilled therapist Kelly began with an invigorating facial using this sustainable seaweed-based brand. The rose geraniumscented nourishing face oil and anti-oxidant marine cream worked wonders! A relaxing back and neck massage finished the session. Sporty types will love the fitness studio, steam room, experience showers and swimming pool lined with loungers and flanked by floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the surroundings. Embrace country life with a round of tennis, a bike ride or a stroll along one of the many walking routes, stopping to admire the outdoor sculptures. Enjoy a breath of fresh air with a delicious picnic hamper prepared by the talented kitchen team or opt for a light healthy lunch at the Spatisserie. Horse riders should head to the equestrian centre and enjoy the professional polo fields and tournaments if visiting between May and September.

MADE FOR ROMANCE

For a quintessentially English wedding large or small for between 30 and 100 guests (with only one hosted on any day) there’s a selection of chic function suites inside the Mansion House, from The Oak Room with its statement copper ceiling to The Oval Room and The Garden Room with access to the lower terrace. Offering the wow factor is a walk down an aisle of wildflowers in the meadow, home to a pretty pagoda. Garden games, including croquet, will keep guests entertained during an al fresco drinks reception served from the dinky lawn bar. Weddings during the cooler months can enjoy the rustic-inspired backdrop of The Tower House located a short distance from the Mansion House with its exposed brick walls. Exclusive use of the entire property for up to 250 guests can also be arranged. This back-to-nature bolthole is a magical place that you won’t want to leave, and one where memories are made.

AFFAIR A grand

Louise Prance experienced the ultimate luxury combined with traditional Greek appeal at Rhodes-based Ixian Grand & All Suites

Approaching Rhodes by air, you’d be forgiven for missing a bird’s-eye view of the Ixian Grand & All Suites thanks to the beauty of Greece’s largest island, but for the eagle-eyed travellers you can spot the hotel due to its inimitable layout and luxurious beachfront private pool suites nestled luxuriously on the beach of Ixia Bay, just metres away from the sea.

Ixian Grand & All Suites is only 7km away from Rhodes town and the Medieval City of Rhodes, as well as being a mere 10-minute drive from Filerimos, one of the three ancient cities of Rhodes.

Overlooking the Ixia Bay and Aegean Sea, this hotel has the beauty of being adult-only, so is the ideal destination for a honeymoon offering total relaxation.

LUXE APPEAL

With 124 deluxe guestrooms with garden or sea view, the garden complex offers accommodation in 122 spacious and comfortable guestrooms, while the suites area is comprised of five buildings with 102 rooms and suites.

While all rooms offer a level of luxury only befitting a resort of this calibre, the aforementioned beachfront private pool suites are without doubt the way to go if you’re looking for a once-ina-lifetime experience, and I can attest you will wake up every morning to pinch-me-moments looking out over your private infinity pool to the crystal clear Aegean sea that stretches as far as

the eye can see. Looking for further wow factor? Enjoy a romantic soak in the bath and appreciate the floor-to-ceiling windows while watching the sun set over the ocean.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Talking romance, no honeymoon is complete without a romantic meal or five, and the Ixian Grand & All Suites has romantic eateries down to a fine art. Vis-à-Vis, the hotel’s main buffet restaurant, focuses mostly on the Mediterranean diet and the Greek cuisine, but also international food.

Milonges, is an open-air restaurant offers traditional Greek cuisine and is located by the main swimming pool, serving lunch and dinner, while Muza Htista offers Japanese and Peruvian cultures. My personal favourite was the Alazonia Suites Restaurant – while only available to those staying in suites, this stylish restaurant serves breakfast and dinner, with outdoor or indoor seating options.

Evenings were spent embracing the laidback Greek culture and indulging in a tipple or three at Truman’s Lobby Bar, which has a stunning terrace with views to the gardens, pools and the sea.

AND RELAX…

If you’re able to drag yourself away from the room, the pools and the idyllic scenery, then it’s almost a perquisite to try out the hotel’s spa, and Ixian Grand & All Suites offers one of the most tranquil I’ve had the pleasure of attending.

Offering massages, facials and beauty therapies, the spa also has an indoor pool and a Turkish bath, as well as a complimentary gym with a fitness instructor offering various daily classes – if you’re so inclined. I opted for a more relaxing pastime instead, and indulged in a full body

92

massage. An hour of total bliss, I emerged feeling even more relaxed, if that’s at all possible.

SIGHT SEEING

While it may be unimaginable why you’d want to leave the hotel’s complex, it would be remiss to visit a Greek island and not explore the locality and embrace the culture. We opted for a day trip to the Medieval Rhodes Old Town.

With walls four kilometres long, the Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and dates back more than 2000 years. With a breathtaking history, the site features Medieval buildings, mosques, traditional fountains, oriental motifs, Byzantine and Gothic churches, shops, a market and restaurants aplenty.

We whiled away hours mooching inbetween the castle walls, picking up classic Greek souvenirs before sampling traditional Greek food – and of course wine. What could be better than enjoying a sun-drenched glass of white while looking at white-washed buildings before heading back for sundowners at the hotel?

No honeymoon would be complete without getting out on the water, and activities abound in Rhodes. From SUP fun, to romantic boat rides, to kayak tours. Tick the aqua box and your romantic Greek getaway would be really complete.

CITY ESCAPES 95

A SPA DAY Santa needs

Located on the banks of the picture-perfect River Thames in Surrey, just 10 minutes from Windsor, The

on Thames is a modern fourstar hotel with an award-winning spa offering.

Now, I’ve been lucky enough to stay at The Runnymede once before, although the warm summer’s day certainly wasn’t comparable to the wintry, grey November day I found myself in when visiting a second time. I wondered; did it alter my view having been before? Could I honestly find enough about it to tell all my lovely readers about an authentic experience – well, read on, because you’ll hear why it was second time’s a charm for me!

As previously mentioned, the ominous grey skies of this winter’s day (and the M25 car park), hadn’t set me up for the most relaxed of mindsets to start my night away at The Runnymede. Arriving at the hotel, I was a tad deflated to say the least. However, no sooner had I trudged my way through the hotel’s revolving front doors was I warmed to the bones with a cosy ambience exuding from the lounge and lobby area. A true winter-warmer, there was a huge log fire keeping everyone toasty, Christmas trees and decorations glistening in abundance, low lighting complementing the hum of people relaxing and chatting away – I was instantly enthralled.

The modern aesthetic of the hotel has been sympathetically considered so that style never surpasses comfort. The large sofas and seating areas are all strategically placed to provide snug yet social spaces to catch up with loved ones or enjoy as a romantic twosome. Attentive waiters attend to your needs immediately; it wasn’t long before I was relaxing on a plush sofa next to the log fire, looking out at the river – still picturesque even in the winter – with a cocktail in hand. My morning was forgotten, a distant memory, although I think the cocktail helped with that too!

Our spacious River View suite was more than enough for two people on a much-needed night away. Armchairs and a table perfectly poised to watch the river run by, an enormous bed offered a perfect night’s sleep, and the bathroom was a suite in itself: two sinks and mirrors, walk-in shower and bath – it was like your very own beauty parlour! I could have easily whiled away an hour or two in our suite, but I swiftly changed into my robe, grabbed my book and headed down to the spa.

The spa is accessible from the main hotel, with its own entrance and reception area it feels like a luxurious members-only retreat. Whether you want to get the endorphins going in the fitness centre – which boasts river views – or while away the time in the swimming pool or Jacuzzi it’s got something for everyone. There are also adult-only times for the facilities which is perfect for minimooners.

After reading a few chapters in my book while enjoying a fruit

tea in the spa’s lounge area, I was greeted by a therapist to take me for my complimentary treatment an ESPA Back, Neck & Shoulder Massage.

Now, I’m a bit of a tough nut to crack, not just because I’m knotted up like a coil, but I also find it hard to practice mindfulness and enjoy the experience. I’m also out of my comfort-zone sat there in only a towel – I even hide in the bathroom at home! My therapist Claire was amazing, putting me at ease, she was incredibly knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions I had; it speaks volumes that I was able to nearly doze off! I also felt the knots in my back disperse for the first time, I knew I’d had a thoroughly wonderful and beneficial massage. The Runnymede is perfect for a spot of pre- or post-wedding pampering, treatments include manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing and a variety of massages as well as half-day and full-day spa experiences.

When staying in hotels, I’m always keen to book into the restaurants rather than venture out. Both dinner and breakfast were served in Leftbank, the hotel’s renowned buffet restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the river. At night, the dark winter evening was interspersed with intimate lighting, and the hotel’s festive décor really came in to its own with an extra splattering of fairylights and shimmering tones. The food was insatiable, for even the most discerning of critic who may shy away from the word ‘buffet’ but this is not an average offering!

With all kinds of culinary delights from delicious antipasti boards and salads to a variety of meat and fish options there’s something for everyone for starters, mains and desserts. As it was a Sunday we delved in to a hearty roast dinner (which was also on offer) and, not that I really had room for dessert but they certainly went down a treat – I tried three of the delicacies on offer! The open kitchen, wood-fired oven and rotisserie also provide a visual extravaganza too, cooking right before your eyes. Breakfast the next day didn’t disappoint either. Due to the light flooding in, the Leftbank feels bright and airy in the mornings, energising you for the day ahead. Again, there was possibly too much choice of fare from continental to hot cooked options, sweet and savoury, healthy fruits and muesli. There was not one fault in the dining experience on offer here.

After a final coffee, gazing at the river, we were thinking about our day ahead in Windsor complete with a visit to the castle to see the Christmas decorations! Alas, it was time to say goodbye. I couldn’t quite believe the whirlwind 24-hours I had here and that was all down to the wonderful experience The Runnymede had given me. From the surroundings to the staff, the wellbeing ethos to the mouth-watering food, I was looked after, rejuvenated and ready for the world again. Thank you!
