SEARCYS LAUNCHES LIMITED-EDITION 175TH-ANNIVERSARY SEARCYS SELECTED CUVÉE BLANC DE BLANCS BRUT NV

British restaurateur and event caterer Searcys has launched its new, limited-edition Searcys Selected Cuvée Blanc de Blancs Brut NV. Marking its milestone 175th birthday, only 5,000 bottles have been produced.

Experts in all things fizz, Searcys is synonymous with champagne, with its very first own Cuvée dating back to 1893. Now, 129 years later, the restaurateur is topping off its birthday celebrations with a special Blanc de Blancs champagne, produced in the ECOCERT-certified vineyard in Epernay.

Made with 100% Chardonnay grapes and aged in the chalk cellars for more than twenty-four months, this elegant wine offers freshness and delicacy in every sip. Yellow-gold in colour, with notes of white flower, citrus and biscuity aromas and hints of fresh almond and lemon, the wine is the ideal celebratory tipple and pairs perfectly with seafood and grilled fish.

The 175th anniversary Blanc de Blancs joins the range of Searcys Selected Cuvée, alongside the recently released English Sparkling Wine. Priced at £50 per bottle, the new serve is available to purchase from Searcys online Gift Shop with nationwide delivery at https://searcys.giftpro.co.uk

Customers can also try a bottle of fizz across all Searcys venues.

Coworth Park has unveiled Woven by Adam Smith, the new restaurant that has just opened at the Dorchester Collection’s luxury country house hotel. Chef Adam Smith’s menu promises a tapestry of familiar flavours reimagined in unexpected ways, combining the classics with modern touches. Martin Hulbert Design has created the interiors, crafting a theatrical and contemporary space that blends seamlessly into the Georgian manor house setting, whilst complementing and elevating the dining experience.

An eye-catching set of sculptures inspired by the Coworth Park gardens sits at the entrance of Woven by Adam Smith. Past these, guests are welcomed into an impressive new wine room and pantry, with two floor-to-ceiling wine cellars holding a unique curation of bottles. The culinary journey will begin with a selection of snacks served from the pantry including a devilled egg with caviar, smoked roe and pine; coronation chicken and cured sea bass with XO sauce, kalamansi and seaweed. Welcome drinks pair seamlessly with Adam’s menu and introduce guests to a list that celebrates British wines alongside library vintages from some of the best producers around the world. There are also cocktails on the menu that use storied, sustainable British spirits from Sapling.

A light-filled conservatory with expansive views over the Berkshire countryside sits to one side of the pantry, offering an extension of the main restaurant space or an exclusive private dining setting for up to 12 guests. The main dining room seats 44 guests, with interiors that champion quality, craft and natural materials at every turn. As a centrepiece of the restaurant, a striking plaster relief set with root vegetables sits on the back wall, made by artisans Locker & Riley. There’s also a contemporary light installation that mimics a woodland canopy, with delicate rays of light pouring over the restaurant below.

Adam rose through the ranks in the kitchens of The Ritz and The Devonshire Arms, before joining Coworth Park as executive chef in 2016. He has gained numerous awards along the way; amongst his proudest moments, winning the prestigious Roux Scholarship in 2012 and being awarded Master of Culinary Arts in 2017. Woven by Adam Smith represents the culmination of Adam’s great career to date, with the chef taking his years of experience combined with a creative and

hugely passionate approach to cooking, and fully expressing his unique style at the new restaurant. The menu champions British produce in dishes such as brown crab with radish, apple, basil and yuzu and Hereford beef served with potato and onion.

In celebration of Coworth Park’s beehives, desserts include black fig with estate honey, walnut and bee pollen. Alternatively, guests can indulge in Adam’s signature chocolate, sea salt, cocoa nib and crème fraîche, or choose from a wide selection of British cheeses served from the pantry.

The menu is priced at £80pp for lunch and £130pp for dinner, with the experience starting with a selection of snacks ‘From The Pantry’, followed by a choice ‘From The Larder’, ‘From The Stove’ and ‘From The Pastry’, before concluding with a selection of sweet treats. Wine pairing is offered at £80pp.

Coworth Park is a 71-room luxury country house hotel set in 240 acres of picturesque Berkshire parkland. The estate includes a spa with an indoor pool and is the only UK hotel to feature its own polo fields and a full programme of polo tournaments, managed by Guards Polo Club. Alongside Woven by Adam Smith, the hotel also offers relaxed dining in The Barn and a delicious, award-winning afternoon tea in the Drawing Room.

THE BRIDAL DRESS COMPANY UNVEIL

A NEW DESIGNER

The Bridal Dress Company located in Newbury, Berkshire has welcomed a new designer into the store. Dreamy dresses by Justin Alexander are now available at this popular bridal boutique. Owner Charlotte Proctor tells us, “A couple of bridal trends for 2023 have already started to emerge after many major bridal fashion houses revealed their new spring collections. My favourite is the clean lines trend which is all about making a statement through simplicity. A daring side slit, an asymmetric neckline, beautiful tailoring and exquisite fabrics all make up this modern take on bridal fashion.”

Charlotte continues, “The neckline of the moment is a fashionable off-the-shoulder style. This is combined with 3D florals because many

designers have reworked the more traditional lace fabrics into oversized lace and floral motifs, switching the aesthetic to a more current one.”

Ultra-feminine design details such as pearls and bows have been popular over the last year and will remain so in 2023. Charlotte tells us, “These can be as part of a dress, accessories or jewellery. When it comes to bridesmaids, we’ve seen the colour green dominate the industry. In 2023, Bridgerton-inspired Regency blues and lavender will become the colours of the year. We’re seeing brides make a statement with their wedding dress choices, truly expressing themselves through fashion. Where better to start the wedding dress search than with the Justin Alexander ‘Be You’ collection, one that encourages brides to feel confident in a wedding dress that evokes their personality.

Once upon a time

Say I do in one of these magical venues

WHAT’S NEW?

HORWOOD HOUSE, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE

Championing the very best of locally sourced British ingredients and embracing the hotel’s heritage is Harry’s Bar & Kitchen, the beautiful countryside restaurant based within Horwood House hotel.

With a new menu carefully curated by the hotel’s new executive chef William Dimartino, the restaurant embraces seasonality - a value important to the estate’s first commissioner, Frederick Denny, who employed a dedicated gardening team to ensure the grounds delivered produce all year round - alongside the horticultural heritage synonymous with the hotel’s 38 acres of beautiful gardens and woodlands.

Placing the spotlight on quality ingredients and working closely with local growers and producers, expect nibbles such as whipped smoked cod’s roe alongside starters of coal-roasted Ware beetroot with goat’s cheese mousse and maple walnuts, burratina with pomegranate and toasted almonds, and the chef’s favourite - Isle of Wight tomato with chopped avocado and whipped tofu. A delicious sharing board showcasing local charcuterie from Cobble Lane makes the perfect appetiser, served alongside pickles and celeriac remoulade.

The main courses focus on dishes cooked in a charcoal oven. Expect sirloin and ribeye steak aged for 30 days in a Himalayan salt chamber, expertly sourced from local business, Buckingham Butchers, alongside teriyaki Loch Duart salmon, lamb kofta with onion flatbread and pomegranate glazed grilled chicken. With sandwiches and wraps for light lunches, and delicious vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options such as BBQ harissa cauliflower or a superfood salad, guests will be spoilt for choice.

Desserts are no afterthought with several sweet delights to choose from. Highlights include a tropical rum roasted pineapple brioche with milk ice cream and a lemon and mint posset with raspberry sorbet.

Inspired by the estate’s horticultural heritage and picturesque grounds, the restaurant exhibits rich, textural finishes of velvet, leather and tweed contrasted beautifully alongside the suitably botanical surroundings with a stunning herbaceous arrangement hanging from the restaurant’s skylight – a nod to Percy Thrower, acclaimed TV gardener and son of the restaurant’s namesake, Harry. Choose to dine at the country kitchen table or slink into armchairs for an intimate lunch or a relaxed evening meal. Guests can even take a seat on the expansive outdoor terrace, which overlooks the beautiful British countryside.

The newly refurbished Wedding Ceremony Room inside this Grade 11 listed property seating up to 80 guests is brimming with grand features and provides a neutral ethereal-inspired space. High ceilings are decorated with magnificent detailing, there’s an impressive stone fireplace and a stunning bay window providing plenty of natural daylight. Subtly

glistening wall coverings and soft botanical prints complete the romantic décor.

For a picturesque outdoor backdrop, a white wedding pavilion is situated in the historical gardens to be enjoyed throughout the summer months, with a capacity of 190 guests and couples can also choose to use the grounds for a drink reception and photography.

The neutral and spacious settings of the Eyre and Cook Suites can be decorated to any chosen theme, seating up to 190 guests for the wedding breakfast, with the option to add a dancefloor.

Amy and John’s big day at Stanlake Park enjoyed a rustic feel Images courtesy of Stone Photos

Amy and John Prior married on 20th June 2021 at Stanlake Park in Twyford, Berkshire.

30

Amy and John met through work and became best friends. “The rest, as they say, is history!” Amy tells us. The couple became engaged during a few days away in Kent. “We were staying in a beautiful woodland cottage cabin, the Woodcutters Cottage at Swallowtail Hill which Amy had booked as a surprise,” John says. “She didn’t expect me to propose by the campfire!” Amy adds, “John had set up his iPhone for what he told me was a timed photograph but actually it was a video and at the last minute, he got down on one knee so the moment was captured perfectly!”

SETTING THE SCENE

The couple chose to get married at Stanlake Park. “It oozed character and was a beautiful, local venue offering stunning scenery – it just felt like the one!” they tell us. Their table names were after their family’s dogs. “We wanted to involve our shared love of dogs in our wedding,” they say. “Our top table was called Bloodhound which is a breed that we have a special place in our heart for and wish to give a loving home to one day. On the tables, we displayed miniature easels showcasing the table names placed on log circles within the centrepieces.”

These centrepieces were handmade by the bridal party. The wooden logs were cuttings from a real tree topped with hand-decorated glass jars tied with a hessian ribbon holding a mixture of gypsophila, roses and homegrown sweet peas. The place names were wooden scrabble tiles with each guest’s first initial displayed on rustic brown craft paper with the remaining letters hand-stamped with an inked letter stamp. “Our table plan was a miniature wooden frame with twine string and wooden pegs holding each name,” Amy tells us.

Amy and John chose wild seed hearts as their favours. “We used heart-shaped seed paper with a thank you note written on each one,” Amy describes. “The hearts were designed to be planted and bloom into wildflowers that our guests could enjoy after our special day. We also loved the idea of having something that the bees could enjoy too because my dad is a beekeeper.”

Amy and John’s choice of flowers enhanced their rustic theme. “We had hand-tied bouquets for me, our bridesmaids and our flowergirl,” Amy says. “The bridal flowers consisted of roses, sweet peas, gypsophila and lavender all teamed with foliage. Our bridesmaids carried posies containing roses and gypsophila while the flowergirl bouquet was made solely from gypsophila which we also wore in our hair.”

“Neither of us was nervous - it felt exciting and natural for us. We were happy to be with each other and our loved ones.” - Amy and John

Amy and John chose a semi-naked red velvet and chocolate cake. “It was decorated with matching flowers to those in the bouquets and buttonholes,” Amy says. “It was placed on a personalised wooden cake board and featured a cake topper handmade by us both.”

The couple decorated their venue with a white wooden shelf displaying illuminated A and J letters. “We also displayed photographs of us together along with a glass picture frame guest register that everybody could sign their names on wooden love hearts and post them into the frame,” Amy tells us. “A wicker picnic basket held congratulations cards and we also had a polaroid printer camera available for our loved ones to take photographs and stick them in an album with messages.”

LOOKING THE PART

With the help of Mo at Sophie Grace Bridal and Amy’s mum, Amy chose to wear a bespoke Gaia wedding dress. “It was a strapless ballgown with a beautiful beaded bodice attached to a soft tulle skirt,” Amy says. “It was made even more special because it had a small heart-shaped piece of material from my mum’s wedding dress sewn inside it. I chose a simple pair of pearl earrings that I was given by my granny and uncle for my 21st birthday. I also wore a small pearl and diamanté tiara and a pair of elegant bridal shoes.”

John wore a brown twill tweed three-piece suit with a burgundy tie and a buttonhole of lavender, rosemary, gypsophila and something special from the bridal bouquet bound in twine. “He wore a pair of personalised cufflinks that I gifted him on the morning of our wedding,” Amy says. “He stood out from the rest of the groomsmen who wore a navy three-piece suit with a soft peach tie and pocket handkerchief with a buttonhole of lavender, rosemary and gypsophila bound in twine. Our beautiful bridesmaid wore a soft peach maxi dress with a pair of pearl earrings and a single pearl bracelet to match my pearl earrings.”

TIME TO CELEBRATE

Being the day before a reduction in covid restrictions, the couple was limited with the activities that they were able to host. “The outdoor scenery and professional food displays as well as our amazing photographer creating some beautiful shots with the children and other guests kept everybody entertained,” Amy says. “When we moved into the barn for our wedding breakfast, we enjoyed cutting the cake, making the speeches and the children had goodie bags filled with activity booklets and toys as well as some games to keep them entertained.”

“All of our suppliers and the venue, which also provided the delicious catering were incredible, we can’t thank them all enough. Loren, our photographer, went above and beyond giving us ideas and helping with all sorts of things throughout the day and so did Vicky, our hair artist who was an expert at getting us ready.” - Amy and John

Laid-back lovin’

Claire and Dave’s country boho theme enjoyed a forest green and white colour theme Images courtesy of Ellie Mac Photography

Claire and Dave first met when they were in their late teens at her best friend Cath’s house party. “Cath was then to become the maid-of-honour at our wedding!” Claire tells us. “It was almost 10 years later before we became a couple but we formed a close friendship in our mid-twenties. We used to speak every day and share a ‘fact a day’ - one of our favourites was quoted in the reading that Dave’s sister Sara gave at our ceremony!”

The couple became engaged on 16th August 2020 when Dave popped the question while they were on holiday in Ilfracombe, Devon. “We’d been together for five-and-a-half years but the proposal was still a surprise to me!” Claire tells us. “We had talked about marriage and the large festival-themed wedding that we were going to have, but I didn’t think he’d get down on one knee to propose, but he did!” Dave had asked Cath to make the ring which was a wonderful surprise for Claire. “It’s a beautiful silver band engraved with our initials in morse code,” she tells us. “He’d stored the ring in the glove box of the car as we drove around Devon, waiting for the perfect opportunity to ask me to marry him. We got out of the car at a viewing point which was on top of a cliff looking out to the sea and as I walked towards the edge of the cliff to get a good view of the sunset and turned around, he was on one knee holding the ring. I screamed with shock and excitement, I couldn’t believe what was happening! Of course, I said ‘yes’ and that was the beginning of our engagement.”

Here, Claire tells us about their country boho celebration...

Claire and Dave Boote married on 26th March 2022 at Banbury RegistrationOffice followed by a reception at The Barn at The New Inn, Oxfordshire.

37 REAL WEDDINGS

Dave and I always talked about having a big festival-themed wedding. We had viewed Hadsham Farm in Oxfordshire which is stunning and had planned to book the venue for September 2023 but then we found out that I was pregnant. Our priorities changed and we wanted to get married before our baby arrived in June 2022. We booked Banbury Registration Office for 26th March 2022 which was the date of our seventh anniversary.

We decided to have an intimate wedding and onlyinvite our immediate family to the ceremony andfor dinner. The week before the wedding, I decidedto invite some of my best girlfriends to witness theceremony. They’d been part of our relationship from thebeginning, having been friends with both of us, so it feltright for them to be there.

The barn looked stunning with our handmade decorations in it. We had a wall of fairylights installed by Dave with a bride and groom sign.

The dinner and reception were held at ourlocal pub, The New Inn located in MiddletonCheney, Banbury. We know the owner, Ninawho gave us use of the barn which fittedperfectly with our country, boho theme.

I made a floral chandelier with Dave’s sister Sara and - hismum, Gilly that was suspended from the ceiling in the barnand looked incredible. We used an old hula hoop decoratedwith ivy from our garden and some fake flowers.

The finishing touches displayed around the venue were objects from all of our houses including badgers, sloths and mushrooms.

38

We had a photo board for our guests to look at.

Our favours were bottles of homemade sloegin that Dave’s mum Gilly created andpersonalised handmade wood slices thatDave’s cousin Ellen made. We also had chocolates and wildflower seeds.

Our centrepieces were created with ivy from our garden. We had a hessian table runner and jars hand-decorated with lace and filled with candles or gypsophila that were placed on large wood slices.

“We tucked into a meal at the pub with our family and then enjoyed a buffet in the evening with our friends also invited.” - Claire and Dave

Our flowers included displays of delicate gypsophila.

“Our registrar was Sheila Norton and her son was in my year at school so she knew both Cath and me and made our ceremony feel very personal. It was nice to have a familiar face as we were saying our vows - along with Dave!” - Claire

I designed our place names to tie in with our theme.

My maid-of-honour, Cath, chief bridesmaid, Sara and our niece Eden picked their dresses which were different styles in the same shade of green.

Our delicious homemade cake was gifted to us by my friend, Amie.

My veil was my something borrowed from my friend Emma who got married last year.

39 REAL WEDDINGS

Everybody loved playing the peg game which is one of our favourites!

Dave looked so handsome in a three-piece blue check suit, white shirt, forest green tie and brown shoes.

Dave’s best man Craig and his partner Stacey gave Dave a pocket watch which they had engraved with our wedding date on it.

The chain on his waistcoat made a lovely finishing touch.

Craig wore his own blue suit to matchDave’s. Our male family members wore green ties to tie in with the theme.

I struggled to find a dress because I was 30 weeks pregnant on our wedding day. I decided not to go dress shopping in the traditional sense and ordered a lace dress with cami straps online. I found a fantastic seamstress, Karen Westgate, who added a corset back so that I was able to adjust it to fit. She also added the cuff sleeves and took it up at the front, leaving the back longer to form a train.

Dave and I created a playlist on Spotify to entertain our guests during dinner and the evening. We had always imagined having a band and DJ at our wedding (because Dave is a DJ) but we didn’t feel we needed it and we were right. More than 100 guests turned up for the reception, the majority of who were friends and many had not seen in other in years. The night was spent with everyone catching up. It was a fantastic vibe, everyone was so happy and we didn’t stop smiling. We were lucky to have our friend Ben bring his guitar along and play some songs which got guests dancing!

Neither of us stopped smiling all day, the feelingof pure joy and happiness was overwhelming. Itdidn’t matter that it wasn’t a big festival-themedwedding, it was perfect the way it was, smalland intimate. It was our wedding day and justmaking our promises to each other was all weneeded, everything else was just a bonus.

We were blessed with a golden hour of sunset when our photographer Ellie took us to a field en route to the reception around 5 pm. It was the only time during the day that we got to spend together just us two. Driving in Dave’s dad’s Mini Cooper to the location that she’d personally found for us having just said our vows was a really special moment.

Top tip: “Invest in a talented photographer. The best choice we made was to book Ellie to take our pictures. Ellie did an amazing job capturing these moments which we can now treasure forever.” - Claire and Dave

Samaire and Barry’s special day followed a blush pink, pale blue and sage green theme Images courtesy of Couple of London

Samaire Gorman and Barry Payne married on 21st May 2022 at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre in Aylesbury.
42

Samaire and Barry met on a night out in Bicester with mutual friends. “Barry was sober and I wasn’t but he didn’t realise!” Samaire tells us. “We chatted and enjoyed an ice fight on the dancefloor and at the end of the evening, he drove me back safely to my friend’s house.”

The couple became engaged in 2016 during a visit to the National Trust property Stowe with their one-year-old daughter. “Barry first asked me to marry him back in 2013 the night before we were departing for a trip to the USA,” Samaire tells us. “He had arranged to see my friends and family to share the news. Unfortunately, I turned him down. Three years later, I knew that Barry and our family were what I wanted for my future so I asked him while sitting on a bench having thought of nothing else during the visit.”

SETTING THE SCENE

Samaire and Barry chose the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre in Quainton, Aylesbury as the backdrop for their special day. “We had visited the centre numerous times before at Christmas but had never looked at it as a wedding venue,” Samaire says. “I attended a wedding fair there and saw it in a new light; it was quirky, it wasn’t weather dependant and it was something different, (not to mention it could hold plenty of guests and was a ‘dry’ venue meaning that we could use whichever suppliers we wanted). At the time, neither of us had any interest in trains, but we both agreed that it was the perfect place to bring our loved ones together and we knew that the photographs would be amazing. After choosing the venue, Barry became very invested, first as a volunteer, then a member of the executive and he is now chairman of the Buckinghamshire Railway

“We used the milk churns, delivery bicycle and the trains that were at the venue in our photographs.”Samaire and Barry

Centre, taking great pride in all it has to offer.”

Samaire arrived at their wedding with their daughter, Erinn, in a green 1957 Chevrolet 3100. “My parents were transported in a brown 1969 Ford F100 and Barry arrived in a WW2 Willy’s jeep which belonged to a friend,” Samaire says.

The couple chose a pastel colour theme for their laid-back day that included pops of blush pink, pale blue and sage green. “We kept things casual and did not have a formal sit-down meal,” Samaire tells us. “We collected jars and vases and displayed them on each table as centrepieces. We gave Love Heart sweets with personalised wrappers including our wedding date and names as favours and Barry’s mum sourced artificial flowers to decorate the tables and venue with.”

The couple had a navy single-tier Cherry Bakewell flavoured cake that was decorated with a gold wildflower stencil and a blush pink wrap with gold edging. “It was finished with flowers to match the varieties in my bouquet,” Samaire says.

Guests enjoyed welcome drinks followed by mini afternoon tea of sandwiches, wraps and scones served with clotted cream and jam. “This was followed by a barbecue in the evening,” the couple tells us.

LOOKING THE PART

Samaire was torn between an A-line dress and a fit ‘n flare style. “I knew that I wanted something with a high neck so I tried on quite a few dresses and saved the best till last!” She tells us. “The style I chose was D2775 by Essense of Australia.”

Barry wore a blue check three-piece suit by Marc Darcy with a soft green tie and pocket square and Erinn chose an A-line, floor-length chiffon and lace dress in sage green.

TIME TO CELEBRATE

The venue provided guests with plenty of entertainment in the form of rides on the steam train, access to the museum and also the miniature railway which was a big hit. “The miniature railway showcases toys from days gone by so everybody felt like a child again!” the couple tells us. “We hired the live musician Patrick Foley who sang a mix of his own songs and plenty of covers. Everyone commented how good he was attempting to play requests even when he didn’t know the songs. We also had an unexpected flyover from a Spitfire who put on a real show. Some of our guests thought it was planned but it wasn’t!”

ELIZABETH WEDDINGS

Elizabeth Wong is the talented wedding and event stylist behind her Oxfordshire-based company Elizabeth Weddings which offers bespoke styling services and prop hire. She tells us, “For winter weddings, candles are a must! They add warmth and light and create a romantic ambience.” She also describes how pieces that follow the natural theme are trending now because they're eco-friendly. “Pine cones can be easily collected outside along with dried leaves or pumpkins for an autumn wedding. Log slices and log tealight holders can be hired which are sustainable choices. Consider introducing orange slices and cinnamon sticks for a wintery Christmas-themed wedding.”

Elizabeth also creates handmade stationery by designing bespoke drawings of anything, for example, wedding flowers. A template is made and then printed on to stationery pieces. She tells us, “The design can be used to bring all the on-the-day stationery together and adds a personal touch.”

HIRE HEAVEN

Taniece Simmons, the owner of Buckinghamshire-based Hire Heaven has been a qualified florist for many years and she also offers a venue styling service with new items available to hire. She tells us, “With flower costs and prices hitting an all-time high, a majority of fresh flowers are grown and imported from Holland. I always recommend using fresh flowers for the bouquets which are the main floral focus that will feature in the wedding photographs. To decorate the venue, I suggest using artificial blooms and provide two ranges of large artificial flowers available for hire. Both ranges consist of matching table centrepieces, archways and floral garlands that can be used to decorate the ceremony and top table.”

Hire Heaven also offer a service where they can move flowers around the venue to optimise their use throughout the day. Taniece tells us, “You pay to hire the installations so use them as much as you can throughout the day. Arches can be moved from the ceremony venue or the church to the reception room and placed behind the top table or at the entrance to the venue. The following day, we will take it all away. There’s no fresh flower wastage - a cost-effective way to make your venue look fantastic.”

MEMORIES TO LAST A LIFETIME

Meet the expert: Gaetano Di Giacomo is a wedding videographer based in Buckinghamshire covering weddings in Oxfordshire, Cambridgeshire, London and Essex. He has more than 15 years of experience that will ensure the final video will be perfectly filmed and edited.

Why should we book a videographer?

Gaetano says: Do you want to be one of the 75% of couples who regret not booking a wedding videographer? It’s always said that your wedding day will flash by in an instant. This is why hiring a wedding videographer is so important in making your special day last forever.

There are many costs involved when it comes to a wedding, and adding a wedding videographer to them may seem like an unnecessary expense, especially if you have hired a photographer.

However, I think couples should think of it as an investment which they

won’t regret, especially when they watch their wedding film on their 1st, 10th, or even 50th anniversary.

Photographs of your big day are lovely to have, but a video will add a more personal touch to the day, and provide you with the little details that you’ll forget over time. It’s a complete visual record of the day’s events, from the bride and groom getting ready in the morning, to the throwing of the bouquet, and much more in between. Also, the sounds of the event can only be captured in a video, so you’ll get to relive your vows and your first dance song forever. It’s also a chance for you and your family to make memories to treasure forever and you’ll appreciate the record you have of them enjoying your special day with you. The big event will only happen once, so you want your wedding video to do it justice.

61 EXPERT ADVICE

SAY IT WITH WORDS

Meet the expert: Lauren Daisy creates beautiful bespoke wedding stationery from her studio in Witney, Oxfordshire.

We want to design our wedding stationery, can you help?

Lauren says: Going bespoke and telling a story through your wedding stationery is something I strive for in my business. I believe that your wedding should represent you both as an individual and as a couple. A great way to do this is to set the tone with your stationery showing your bespoke design and hinting to your guests about what’s to come. This isn’t a process that can happen overnight, I recommended that once you have booked your venue and secured the date, you should then book your stationery supplier. I work with my couples more than four to eight weeks in advance to complete a bespoke stationery suite. This includes:

A zoom call or a meet-up to discuss ideas and thoughts and create a mood board.

My designing time as I hand-draw all my illustrations on my iPad.

Couples will then have the opportunity to make any changes to the text, font or even the design itself.

Once the couple is happy, their design will go to print.

I’ll receive the print items back and add finishing touches to them, this may be a wax seal, ribbon or simply assembling them.

PERFECT PLANNING

Meet the expert: Jessica Ghansah plans beautiful, stress-free weddings for busy couples throughout Buckinghamshire and beyond.

Why hire an on-the-day wedding coordinator?

Jessica says: It’s the day of your wedding and you’ve got 120 table settings to put out, the DJ can’t find the venue and you’ve left something important at home. Weddings can be stressful. You should be enjoying the best day of your life, not remembering who ordered the vegetarian or vegan option or where you put the cake knife (you did bring the cake knife, right?)

A wedding coordinator is the ultimate wedding hack - ensuring your perfect day runs perfectly and that the inevitable stresses of planning, supplier coordination and getting your loved ones happily together in the same room sit firmly behind the scenes. Treat yourself to an early wedding present and start your happily ever after today.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Meet the expert: Alison Carter founded Springwood Ceremonies in 2018 which focuses on the details that matter – the ones that tell a couple’s story so they can create a day they’ll remember forever.

We’re planning an outdoor wedding for summer 2023. What will the new laws mean we can (and can’t) do?

Alison says: I welcome the modernisation of antiquated wedding laws. Giving the gift of more choice for marrying couples enables them to create a ceremony that reflects their true selves. The law change in April 2022 means that existing licensed venues can open up their outdoor spaces for legal ceremonies. They are no longer bound by the need to have a permanent structure with a roof for the ceremony. Couples can now have a ceremony on a beautiful lakeside lawn, in a woodland glade, or on a bridge. In essence wherever they would like, as long as the venue are happy.

Remember though that this change only applies to the grounds of existing licensed premises. It does not apply to any venue that doesn’t already hold a licence like a private garden or field for example. And

Meet the expert: Sarah Annand runs Buckinghamshire-based Pretty in Preloved bridal with her husband, Martin and her daughter, Lily (both pictured with Sarah). The family-run team is passionate about all things wedding and preloved.

Sarah says: Pretty In Preloved Bridal was born out of my struggles to find a beautiful previously loved wedding dress. As with all purchases, being environmentally-conscious about what we’re buying should be a priority and this shouldn’t stop when planning a wedding. A bridal dress can be one of the most unsustainable purchases you can make! Excessive clothing production is a big issue in the UK and leads to millions

Our happily ever after

County Wedding Magazines’ senior editor Melissa Cullen shares her wedding planning journey Images courtesy of www.chrisblackledgephotography.co.uk

My husband (it still feels weird saying that) and I were engaged for 18 months before we finally tied the knot. Planning our wedding during a global pandemic wasn’t something I ever imagined happening, but thankfully, despite the ups and downs, we managed to have our

special day. I know it’s cliché to say, but we really did have the perfect day, and we wouldn’t have changed a thing. Now that I’m finally Mrs Cullen, I thought I’d take the time to share with you some tips that I learnt from planning our big day...

We chose a rustic property that looked gorgeous all year round. Our wedding coordinator, Eloise, took care of all the details andmade sure everything ran seamlessly. We arranged a last minutemeeting with her to run through the plan for the day, whichwe found was a great help and meant we knew exactly what toexpect. I recommend booking a venue with a dedicated weddingcoordinator or hiring an external company, so that you can relaxand enjoy yourself without having to worry.

Flowers can transform any venue into a beautiful space, so choosing the perfect florist was really important to us. If like me, you’re awful with flower names, I’d suggest going for a ready-made package. I told our florist what I liked and left the rest to her - a decision that saved me hours of stress! One thing I didn’t consider was just how many flowers we would need to take home the next day. We gave our friends and family some of the centrepieces as gifts, which they loved, and it meant we didn’t have to take them all home with us - win, win!

I didn’t anticipate how I would feel after purchasing my dress. I felt so much pressure to have this overcome-with-emotion moment when wearing it, that I started to question if I’d made the right decision. My poor bridesmaids had to deal with so many meltdowns about it, but now that the day has been and gone, I can say that the dress was perfect for me. If you start to panic that you’ve made the wrong choice, think about how you felt when you first tried it on and cling to that feeling. I had several photos of myself in the dress that I would obsess over and criticise, and if I could go back in time, I would delete those photos so I wouldn’t waste time worrying. On the day, with your hair and make-up done, you’ll feel amazing, and all those doubts will drift away. Go with your gut, don’t panic about how you should be feeling or what you should be wearing, and do what makes you happy!

Dave and I met our photographer while he was working at a friend’s wedding. He has an amazing style that we both loved, and we found him really easy to be around. One of the best things we did in the run-up to the wedding was book a prewedding shoot. We were both quite nervous in front of the camera, and this put us at ease and meant that when we got to the big day, we both felt relaxed having our picture taken.

64

As some of you may remember, make-up is not my forte, and I’m embarrassed to tell you that I can’t tell the difference between highlighter, foundation and concealer! I booked a trial with my hair and make-up artist a few weeks before the wedding. If you’re worried about how you’ll look on the day or want to try different styles, I would definitely recommend doing this. I’m so glad I did, and it meant that I felt relaxed knowing that my suppliers had everything under control on the day.

One thing that we learnt after the wedding is that everyone loves cake! We purchased 50 cake boxes as we’ve both been to weddings where it gets left at the end of the night, so we thought that would be more than enough. However, those 50 went within an hour, and we had guests asking for additional pieces, so I would definitely provide more boxes than you need.

Surround yourself with people that you trust and love. My bridesmaids were amazing in the run-up to the wedding and on the day itself. They spoiled me with two hen dos, which were fabulous, a wedding-themed advent calendar full of fun and thoughtful gifts and endless support and love throughout the planning process. Trust me when I say that you will feel calmer on the wedding morning if you’re surrounded by your best friends. They made sure I looked and felt perfect, and I don’t think I could have done it without them.

Dave and I knew we wanted a band for our evening receptionthat would get everyone up and dancing. We booked an amazingtrio who learnt our first dance song and incorporated someof our favourite tunes into their set list. We were a bit worriedthat people would get bored or restless throughout the day, butall of our guests were quite content chatting during the drinksreception, and I’m quite glad we kept things scaled back as itallowed us to catch up with friends and family who we hadn’t seenin a long time due to the pandemic.

Our ceremony was performed by a registrar, who we didn’tmeet until the morning of the wedding. Originally, this mademe feel anxious but the whole process went smoothly, and theladies conducting our service were calming and reassuring. Weincorporated promises to each other in our vows that we feltrepresented us as a couple. For those of you about to tie the knot, try and forget about all of the small things, as there’s nothing morespecial than looking into your partner’s eyes and telling them howmuch you love them in front of your loved ones.

Talk to your friends and family and see if they’d like to have an active role in your day. Our mums were really pleased that we asked them to be our witnesses, and it was a lovely way of including them in the ceremony. My beloved bridesmaid, Kelly, also sang a song accompanied by Dave on the guitar during the wedding breakfast. It was really touching and one of my favourite moments from the day.

BRIDE & TESTED

As you’ll know if you’ve been following her Bride’s Dairy features, our own CWM bride, Melissa Barker (now Cullen), tied the knot this summer. When her make-up artist advised at her trial that she begin a skincare regime and invest in a moisturiser, exfoliator and eye cream, we leapt into action to find the best products for her. Here, Melissa shares her skincare journey to W-day…

Glossybox Skincare Exfoliating Clay Scrub

£13, 100ml, www.glossybox.co.uk

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this exfoliating scrub, but after just one use, my skin felt smoother and healthier. Unlike many other exfoliators I’ve tried, this wasn’t too harsh on my skin, but still did a great job of cleaning my pores. After six weeks of use, I still have over half of the 100ml bottle left, so it’s great value for money, and I’d recommend it to anyone.

Ameliorate Replenishing Facial Cream

£24, 75ml, www.ameliorate.com

I was a little apprehensive about trying this face cream, as more often than not, new products make my skin break out. I was pleasantly surprised that after just one use, my skin felt hydrated and smooth and best of all, it didn’t cause any unwanted reactions. I’ve been using this twice a day for six weeks, and I’ve definitely seen a smoother and softer result.

Perricone MD Cold Plasma Plus + Eye £83, 15ml, www.lookfantastic.com

This cream is designed to reduce the look of dark spots and smooth the appearance of lines, wrinkles and uneven texture underneath your eyes. I’m 27 and like to think I don’t have too many wrinkles yet, but I do have dark circles, so I was interested to see whether this cream would help. After six weeks of use, it had decreased the puffiness around my eyes and has made the dark circles less noticeable. It’s left my skin feeling soft and hydrated, and a little goes a long way.

JUST CHILL

When Patchology’s Rosé Sheet Masks landed on my desk in the middle of the summer heatwave I couldn’t wait to get home and chill. Literally that is, as the pack states “served chilled,” so I popped them in the fridge post haste. I’d been suffering with very dry skin, which had me in a panic about Melissa’s impending wedding day and how it would affect the look of my make-up – one more reason to take this mask out for a spin as it’s packed with hydrating hyaluronic acid. Even the pack adorned with champagne glasses looks wedding ready!

So, I smoothed one of these chilled sheets masks onto my hot and bothered face and settled myself on the patio with a glass of wine and a book. Let me tell you, after a scorching day, this was heaven. It calmed my angry skin right down, but not only that, the dry patches were much improved after massaging the remaining serum into my skin. In fact, my make-up artist wasn’t sure what I was worried about when I shared my dry skin woes on the big day, and my foundation went on a dream. Thanks Patchology!

THINK PINK

Premium Spanish spa brand Germaine de Capuccinni will be ditching the usual grey bottle of its hero product, Timexpert SRNS Repair Night Progress Serum, in favour of a pink version in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

The brand’s most technologically advanced booster serum for youthful, rejuvenated skin is packed with no less than 22 active ingredients. Having evolved over the years, its new formula includes an innovative ingredient that increases the power of absorption by eight, making the serum penetrate deeper for fast, effective results. At night, while your skin is more receptive, it repairs damage and re-activates cellular regeneration. During the day it protects skin against environmental factors and external aggressors.

RAISING THE BAR

Far from an ordinary bar of soap, le savon lune from silver-based brand ARgENTUM is an ingenious cleanser in solid form, making it perfect for popping into your suitcase as you head off on honeymoon.

Any water content in the product is replaced with the brand’s patented fusion of silver hydrosol and DNA HP, and targets blemishes while leaving skin clean, cushioned and visibly healthier. Great for men or women, the formulation is also enhanced by bentonite, a colloidal clay composed of aged volcanic ash, traditionally used for its healing effect. Combined with other winning ingredients, this ensures a purifying action without dehydrating or irritating your skin, keeping it in check without upsetting its natural balance. £80, www.argentumapothecary.com

SILKY SMOOTH

According to experts, keratosis pilaris or strawberry legs is something that’s present in 80 per cent of adolescents and 40 per cent of adults and is aggravated by heat and sun exposure. At last count #strawberrylegs peaked at 144.9 million views, but is still growing. Enter Luna Daily’s Everything Oil, this skincare saviour is clinically proven to visibly reduce ingrown hairs, scars, stretch marks, dark spots, redness and bumps for smooth, soft skin. Plus, this lightweight and deeply moisturising, multi-tasking oil is gentle enough to use anywhere on your body.

£18, https://luna-daily.com

AU NATUREL

If you prefer to de-fuzz at home, check out Parissa’s 100 per cent natural cruelty-free and leaping-bunny-certified wax range. The products and their packaging are all made from sustainable, ethically-sourced, natural materials, so if you care as much about the environment as you do about what you put on your skin, give them a go. Say “no” to synthetic waxes!

There are a wide range of options available depending on your experience and hair type. I tried Parissa Legs & Body Warm Wax (£13). Just pop it in the microwave to warm it up and you’re off! Everything you need is included from spatulas to strips. I decided to wax one leg and shave the other for comparison. There’s a slight chance I over heated the product as my waxed leg was livid with me afterwards. However, the redness had all gone down by the morning and I was left with a silky-smooth result versus the shaved leg, which was dry and still a bit rough. The waxed leg was good to go beyond the spray tan too, so I didn’t need to risk any damage, and lasted past Melissa’s wedding and well into the following week before I needed to take further action. My advice would be to start with the wax strips if you’re not used to waxing at home or have sensitive skin, but I was super-pleased with the results.

TIME TO SHINE

The days of using a wealth of products on your hair are over with TAOH, as the brand makes taking care of your locks a doddle with its line of key products with all-in-one solutions to help you achieve the glossiest, most luxe-looking and healthy tresses no matter the type or condition.

The Hydrate Shampoo (£17) and Conditioner (£18) are now a mainstay in my shower and are infused with organic plant oils that have breathed new life into my hair. By far my favourite product in the range though is the TAOH Oil (£20). Argan, macadamia and kukui oils help to restore the life and shine of locks, while promoting scalp health to encourage growth and vitality. It also prevents split ends, calms frizz and detangles. I used it after washing my hair the morning of Melissa’s wedding and received multiple compliments throughout the day about how shiny it looked!

WEDDING-READY SKIN

We all know stress can play havoc with our skin and let’s face it, planning a wedding can be trying. Peace Out skincare has a range of solution-based products to ensure your complexion is picture-perfect on your big day.

It all starts with the prep and so it’s time to bring your A-game… vitamin A that is! Peace Out’s Retinol Face Stick (£28) and Retinol Eye Stick (£25) offer an encapsulated retinol blend that softens the look of wrinkles and texture without any of the harsh side effects. In addition, the fruit enzyme complex combines papaya and pumpkin to target pores and reveal brighter, smoother-looking skin. Start using three-months prior to the nuptials to ensure you’re wedding ready.

THE mane EVENT

Nicole Petty, haircare expert for Milk + Blush, shares 2022’s most popular wedding hair trends and how to achieve them

MESSY BUN

Although, achieving the perfect messy bun can feel like an impossible task TikTok has the answer with a viral hack that’s seen more than six million views…

Section your hair into two ponytails and twist into rope braids. Next, tie the ends of the hair back into the pony to create two loops. Finally, thread one loop through the other to create the bun and secure in place with bobby pins. To elevate the look into the bridal realm, pull out some face-framing tendrils and loosely curl them for the ultimate romantic up do.

POLISHED PONYTAIL

With heatwaves expected to become more frequent, ponytails are a popular and chic style to sport for comfortably enjoying your summer wedding. Take inspiration from Ariana Grande, who showed off her trademark sleek high pony at her wedding last year.

To get this voluminous look, make two ponytails with your top and bottom layers. Next, create a gap in the top pony that you can thread the bottom through to create a layered look. If you need more length, why not invest in clip-in extensions?

FLIPPY BOB

We often think of long hair being the height of romance, but shorter wedding hair is having a moment in 2022. Many have taken inspiration from Kourtney Kardashian's latest look and have adopted her flippy bob for their big days.

To get the look, use a hair mousse for plenty of volume. Then, with a round brush, blow dry the ends upwards to create the flick. Follow with the cool setting to help your locks stay in place and finish by spritzing with hairspray.

HOLLYWOOD WAVES

Nothing exudes glamour like Hollywood waves, a firm favourite among brides. Jennifer Lopez showed just how stunning the style can be at her recent wedding to Ben Affleck, styling her hair in loose curls, with the top layer pulled back into a subtle bouffant.

To recreate the look, use a oneinch curling iron to curl the tresses in layers from the bottom up, holding the curling iron horizontally and rolling the hair downwards as though you’re using rollers. Finish by gently combing through and positioning the hair to create continuous waves before holding the still-hot curling iron against where they dip and clip them in place to cool and set.

HALF-UP, HALF-DOWN

Romantic, versatile and effortlessly elegant this has been one of the most popular styles for brides to wear this year.

Almost anyone can wear a half-up, half-down do, but for those with fine hair, consider investing in some extensions for more body. Focus on creating some height at the crown with some volumising spray and backcombing.

For clip-in hair extensions to boost your look, check out www.milkandblush.com

Q&A

Our experts reveal all about big-day skincare and make-up

SEASONAL SHADES

I’m planning my winter wedding and need some make-up ideas using autumnal shades. I’m a brunette with brown eyes - can you help?

Meet the expert: Kirsty Pritchard is the talent behind Kirsty Louise Make Up Artist based in Buckinghamshire. She has more than ten years experience in the beauty industry and she specialises in bridal make-up.

Kirsty says: I love a winter wedding and cannot wait for the season to arrive so that I can use more autumnal shades on my brides. One of my best kept secrets for enhancing brown eyes is to smudge a warm brown eye shadow or eyeliner pencil with coppery undertones on to the lash line which will enhance the hazel and green flashes in brown eyes and make them pop! Using bronze metallic shades and shimmery tones on the eyes also contrast strikingly against brown eyes.

SEASONAL SKINCARE

How should I prep my skin in the run up to my wedding?

Meet the expert? Poppy Wilson is a fully qualified make-up artist and hair stylist with more than seven years’ of experience. She freelances in fashion, television, editorial and celebrity and has extensive experience working with brides.

Poppy says: Every bride wants to feel their most beautiful on their wedding day and one of the key things is to look after your skin in the lead-up to it. You also need to manage your expectations because skin

will always have imperfections, pores and texture.

There are things that you can do once you’ve evaluated your skin to make it look the best that it can. Focus on the things you’d like to improve. One of the main things I find my brides want to improve is the dullness of their skin - they want to achieve a healthy radiant glow. Make-up can certainly help with this but if the skin is well looked after with a good skincare regime, it will enhance the make-up application.

Vitamin C is one of the best ingredients to help achieve radiant skin so look for a product with a high powerful amount of this in, preferably a serum as this penetrates the skin deeper than a moisturiser.

Grooms editor Melissa Cullen reveals the latest best buys and product launches

British independent designer, The Camden Watch Company has announced its move into jewellery. The new Memento Mori 925 sterling silver unisex ring is adorned with the company’s Memento Mori design.

Memento Mori translates as: ‘Remember you must die’, a recurring theme in Victorian jewellery and art. Contrary to how that may sound, Memento Moris was intended as a celebration of life, to remind us that life is short and every second counts.

Anneke Short, designer and co-founder of The Camden Watch Company, said: “While watch design has always been a passion, I originally studied jewellery making and decided it was time to pursue this. While I love all the products we make, the Memento Mori seemed most natural, especially with its link to the Victorian era who had a fascination with collecting Memento Mori keepsakes.”

FROM MADRIDWith love

Editor Claire Ridley spent Easter in Spain’s vibrant capital city

From the moment I arrived in Madrid, a two-and-a-half hour flight from London, I was greeted by a myriad of narrow streets and large squares filled with landmarks to fill my Insta feed at every turn, from the iconic Royal Palace of Madrid and Plaza Mayor to the eclectic mix of boutiques, tapas restaurants and bars. This extended bank holiday is a great time to visit when the weather has warmed up (average temperature 67 degrees) but the heat of the summer hasn’t yet descended on the city.

A WARM WELCOME

Nestled in the heart of this largest city in Spain, tucked away on Calle de Echegaray, sits the five-star Gran Hotel Inglés, Madrid’s oldest hotel having opened its doors for the first time in 1886. Located a 25-minute drive from the airport, I was excited to visit this boutique property, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, that oozes the glamour of bygone times from the moment you step into the decadent 1920s-inspired lobby with its feature bar, mirrored walls and Art Deco touches.

into a delicious menu of pastries, cold meats and cheese, eggs benedict and a selection of miniature desserts washed down with a Cosmopolitan cocktail, all while enjoying live music from talented singer, songwriter and guitarist Gigi McFarlane (www.instagram.com/gigimcfarlane).

with a choice of L’Occitane bath products. A highlight was the balcony providing outside space in the city –stepping on to it and admiring the view, I felt like I was in a movie.

DINE IN STYLE

Restaurant Casa Lobo in the hotel is well-known on the Madrid dining scene, with its open-plan kitchen serving traditional dishes. A highlight for me was the Show Brunch, priced at 45 euros per person and served every Sunday in the lobby, where I tucked

TAKE A DIP

A fun way of giving my body a little TLC after a day spent sightseeing was a visit to the dedicated spa facility and wellness area where I reserved the jacuzzi and had exclusive use of the entire spa. Tempting treatments on the extensive spa menu that uses Sisley products include an aromatic Californian massage.

WHAT TO SEE

A visit to the tourist hotspot Sol-Gran Via is a must, where adjoining streets blend culture and history with theatres, restaurants and shops. El Retiro Park provides a green oasis in the heart of the city, the perfect spot for a picnic with its pretty Rosaleda Rose Garden and a large artificial lake where rowing boats can be rented.

DO NOT DISTURB

The hotel boasts 48 luxurious rooms and suites, from the spacious Deluxe and Grand Deluxe Rooms to the Echegaray Suite (bearing the same name as the street outside) which was my home-from-home for three nights. This stylish space sleeps up to four people in two large suites interconnected by a hallway (perfect if you’re enjoying a family-moon).

There are two king-size beds with a pillow menu that guaranteed my beauty sleep, two fully equipped bathrooms with waterfall showers and a freestanding vintage-inspired bathtub

Last but certainly not least, the La Latina neighbourhood situated in the heart of Madrid, dating back to the Middle Ages, is home to the famous El Rastro Flea Market which was top of my list to discover. Allow some time in this bustling area that offers a romantic mix of old meets new. Viva España!

BOOK IT: Rates at Gran Hotel Inglés start from approx £325 per room per night on a bed and breakfast basis based on double occupancy, www.granhotelingles.com www.facebook.com/granhotelingles www.instagram.com/granhotelingles https://twitter.com/granhotelingles

The ultimate

destination

Olivia Gibson discovers why Dubrovnik is the perfect honeymoon destination

After what felt like an eternity of not being able to travel due to restrictions, I was so excited to visit the Dubrovnik President Valamar Collection Hotel – especially after seeing images of the stunning property online. For the first time in three years, I packed my bags and headed to the airport!

Dubrovnik is a wonderful place to visit, evident even from thousands of feet up in the air. The crystal-clear waters, beautiful beaches and picturesque landscapes create the perfect backdrop for honeymoons –no wonder it’s known as the Pearl of the Adriatic. After a short flight, we touched down and the real adventure began!

THE PERFECT SETTING

With a beachfront location and a showstopping backdrop of the Adriatic Sea, the five-star hotel offers some of the best views in Dubrovnik. From the moment I arrived, the staff were so welcoming and accommodating –nothing was too much trouble.

With 292 luxurious rooms, I couldn’t wait to see where I would spend the next few nights and wasn’t disappointed when I entered the spacious deluxe double room. The air-conditioned space featured double sinks, a waterfall shower, bath, seating area and a queen-sized bed. My favourite part of the room was the balcony, where I spent most of my time soaking up the sun on the loungers.

The hotel has everything needed for memorable holidays from restaurants, bars, pools, a spa area and a gym – there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The well-maintained facilities were excellent, and I especially loved the outdoor pool area surrounded by sun loungers – the perfect location to relax your senses.

The beach was located only a few meters from the property and was a wonderful place to relax. With a peaceful atmosphere, crystal-clear waters and the sound of crashing waves, what better location to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life?

FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD

As a massive food lover, I couldn’t wait to try some local delicacies. The hotel is home to three restaurants; each offering something different to cater for all tastes.

When we first arrived at the hotel, we had a welcoming meal in the Momenti Restaurant. Here I enjoyed a prawn and beetroot starter, sea bass with potatoes and asparagus for main and a tasty chocolate cake

for dessert. The food was divine, especially the fluffy and dreamy potatoes!

Each morning I was greeted with a delicious sea of food, from cereals, pastries, granola and fresh fruit to a selection of hot food, including sausages, omelettes, bacon and hash browns. The buffet restaurant was superb, with a laid-back atmosphere and a variety of food on offer. Every night the chefs used fresh ingredients to create a fantastic selection of Mediterranean and international specialities that even the fussiest eaters would enjoy. A highlight of my trip was sitting outside on the terrace during dinner, it had a romantic atmosphere and was the perfect location to watch the sun set. For those chilly evenings, guests can sit indoors while enjoying the stunning views thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows. One of my favourite meals from the restaurant was a spaghetti dish - the flavours were unbelievable and I wish I knew the recipe!

For more of a relaxed meal, the Miramare is a beachfront restaurant that offers panoramic views and a wide range of food. It was here where I enjoyed a chicken BLT, the best sandwich I’d ever eaten, and sipped on some cocktails.

We had a farewell meal at the Momenti Restaurant on our last night at the hotel’s sister property – Valamar Lacroma Dubrovnik Hotel. After a short walk, we arrived at the sophisticated space and enjoyed a goose liver pâté with puff pastry pears, followed by scallops and a hazelnut and chocolate cake to finish. Croatia is well known for its wine, so of course I had to try a few glasses.

92

I couldn’t fault the service, the staff were always very attentive, friendly and professional. My glass was never empty, and I felt thoroughly looked after.

TIME TO EXPLORE

What better way to explore Dubrovnik than on an electric tuktuk? The tour started at the portside market in Gruz Harbour where we got a chance to see the local area and fishermen. We had so much fun whizzing around the streets and enjoying the incredible views, especially from the Franjo Tuđman Bridge. I loved visiting the top of Srđ Mountain and seeing the beautiful islands off the coast. The guides were excellent and they shared so much history and knowledge.

The hotel is only a few minutes from the charming Old Town, which is enclosed by Medieval walls, and is a must-visit destination. Game of Thrones fans would recognise the spaces from the much-loved show as the town was a filming destination for some very iconic scenes.

In the Old Town you’ll find cobbled streets, bars, shops and restaurants, alongside many awe-inspiring historical features and architecture. The town has survived chronicled events, such as the 17th-century earthquake and The Croatian War of Independence in the 1990s.

REST AND RELAX

Valamar Lacroma Dubrovnik Hotel is home to the Balance Mediterranean Spa by Valamar. Here we truly indulged in the facilities and treatment menu. I had a 35-minute de-stress massage which I was nervous about at first, as I’d never had a massage before, but the team were fantastic and put my mind at ease. My body felt amazing and I will be getting another one soon! I walked out of the room completely at peace and headed straight to the waterbeds in the relaxation room. There are many other treatments guests can book too including facials, pedicures, manicures, body treatments and more.

The facilities in the spa were great with a steam room and saunas, indoor pool and, for ladies-only, The Afrodita Spa.

Valamar Lacroma Dubrovnik Hotel is perfect for those on a budget who still want to enjoy pure luxury. This four-spa hotel has many stylish rooms, a refurbished lobby and pool area.

FUN IN THE SUN

I highly recommend visiting the Coral Beach Club Dubrovnik for those staying in either hotel. With beach activities, excellent dining, entertainment, bars and spa elements, this popular space is not one to miss! The food here was fantastic and it’s the ideal space to spend a few hours relaxing with a cocktail in hand.

THE FINAL VERDICT

I couldn’t fault my stay at the Dubrovnik President Valamar Collection Hotel. If you’re searching for the perfect honeymoon destination, look no further. The hotel provides the most romantic setting to relax and enjoy quality time with loved ones.
