PREPARE TO BE PAMPERED AT A POB HOTEL
NEWS
The latest news from around both counties
PoB Hotels has recently launched as a collection of carefully curated rooms, the finest restaurants and spas and the most authentic regional experiences across the UK. Formerly known as Pride of Britain Hotels, the new PoB Hotels marks a shift towards an entirely new brand, personality and ethos under CEO Kalindi Juneja.
POB Hotels will encompass relaxed, modern luxury and continue to showcase a range of independent properties dotted around the UK which keeps inspiring guests to discover new hotel experiences that are Pampering, Outstanding and British. These include Whatley Manor hotel and spa (www.whatleymanor.com) and Lucknam Park Hotel, Spa, Estate (www.lucknampark.co.uk) in Wiltshire and Barnsley House (www.barnsleyhouse.com) and Ellenborough Park in Gloucestershire (www.ellenboroughpark.com).
New research commissioned by PoB Hotels from market intelligence firm AudienceNet, shows that more British customers intend to not only travel across the UK during 2023 but also stay longer at their chosen luxury hotel. Almost two-thirds of UK adults (63%) claimed that the appeal of taking a break in Britain as opposed to flying abroad had increased since the pandemic.
Furthermore, over one-third (35%) of all UK adults plan to stay at an upmarket, luxury or spa hotel within the British Isles, with 53% saying they would be more inclined to book a three-night stay within a British hotel, rather than a two-night stay. Two-thirds (66%) of UK adults claim they like to be very well looked after and pampered when staying in a British hotel. The importance of experiences, such as good food, better spa and well-being facilities was said to have increased for as much as 60% of the UK adult population when staying at a British hotel.
Kalindi Juneja, CEO of PoB Hotels, comments, “It’s an exciting new era for PoB Hotels as the evolution of our iconic British brand has already brought us new hotel members and is attracting new guests. Britons want to spend more time enjoying the incredible experiences on offer within the British Isles and we will be showcasing the finest privately-owned hotels, restaurants and spas available.“
In line with the new brand, PoB Hotels is launching a new website that is centred around the guest experience. Features include ‘The Handle’ which is PoB Hotels’ new online magazine, an intelligent search bar, and a mystery door for guests who want a surprise element to their next British holiday. PoB Hotels will relaunch all social media channels under the new name and the brand has also launched on TikTok to interest guests
through creative content and videos.
The rebrand also unveils the PoB hotels gift vouchers that can be personalised and purchased as part of a luxurious gift pack including a reusable travel bag, a copy of The Directory book and a stylish gift wallet. For an instant gift, the voucher can be sent digitally presenting the perfect opportunity for guests to give the gift of luxury to their loved ones. Each gift voucher can be redeemed at any of the hotels across the British Isles. PoB Hotels will also launch The Collection, a coffee-table-style book that’s inspirational.
PoB Hotels is committed to responsible travel and the importance of sustainable practices across its hotels and has partnered with EarthCheck, the world’s leading scientific benchmarking certification, and advisory group for travel and tourism to develop environmental good practices and certification for hotel members, and company-wide regenerative practices. Sue Williams, general manager of Whatley Manor has been elected their sustainability brand ambassador and guide, and PoB Hotels is aiming to have more members embark on becoming carbon responsible.
CEO Kalindi Juneja added: “Our existing guests will continue to see the familiar sense of our passion to serve. We have taken time to assess what our guests love about us so we can amplify that whilst also looking at what we can improve. The new PoBHotels look is clean, fresh, and more reflective of what the membership has evolved into.”

THE 10 MOST INSTAGRAMMED WEDDING VENUES ARE REVEALED
With more than 278,000 UK weddings expected to take place this year, there’s no doubt that couples across the country are scrolling through Instagram in search of inspiration. With this in mind, Aura Print (https://aura-print.com) have discovered the 10 most Insta-worthy and beautiful wedding venues in the UK by searching Instagram to discover which venue was being talked about the most. Gloucestershire was a popular spot with Cripps Barn located in Cirencester at number three, Elmore Court situated in Gloucester at number five and Stone Barn in Cheltenham at number six.
Cripps Barn has 23,356 mentions on Instagram. This renovated barn from the 18th century is located in
CONTEMPORARY TREEHOUSES SET TO OPEN AT ELMORE COURT
Elmore Court country estate in Gloucestershire will be open to holiday guests for the first time this year with designer accommodation on offer in six new high-end treehouses.
With countryside views, guests will have the opportunity to escape to a new space where refined meets rewild. Visitors will experience the comforts that people seek when on holiday whilst drawing in the flourishing flora and fauna of Elmore Court Estate’s nature recovery programme as it enters its third year.
The new accommodation project is on track with bookings open for stays from 24th May 2023 onwards, making Elmore one of the UK’s most exciting new staycation choices this year.
The treehouses are set in Park Covert Woods and their opening in late spring is perfectly timed for the first guests to enjoy carpets of bluebells and other wildflowers and countryside rambles.
Visitors are invited to explore the estate, which is just a short drive from the cathedral city of Gloucester, on recommended walks and learn more about the rewilding programme which started in 2020 when a portion of land was set aside, free from cultivation allowing it to flourish.
Each treehouse operates as a self-catering holiday let, is separate from its neighbours and accessed by private boardwalks and sizeable decks from which guests can enjoy the dramatic views across the wetlands and beyond.
Each uniquely crafted treehouse features an electric car charging point, fun zig-zagging boardwalk entrances through the woods, British cedar cladding with a corrugated roof, cork flooring and poplar ply walls. The clever design means they are maximally insulated as well as gaining energy from both the sun and occupants.
Other features include a modern brazier with a wood store on the seated decking and even an outdoor bath to soak up the incredible views. High spec outside kitchens with a hob, combi ovens, fridge and dining all under shelter optimise time spent al fresco. All treehouse
the quintessential Cotswolds. With rustic-inspired weddings being a big trend, this venue offers a 150-person dining capacity, a state-of-the-art sound system and a beautiful setting. The team has also ensured that couples will have an amazing after-party with their late-night licence making the fun last even longer. To find out more, visit https://crippsandco.com
The fifth most Instagrammable wedding venue is Elmore Court with 21,205 mentions. This stately home was built around 1580 and showcases many different types of architecture throughout the mansion. Weddings can be enjoyed inside or out, with the aesthetics accommodated by the unique collection of styles found around the estate. To find out more, visit www.elmorecourt.com and read on, below, for the latest news about their new treehouse accommodation.
Stone Barn, part of the Cripps & Co group, is a traditional Cotswold barn home to roaring fires and an open kitchen. It can host up to 200 guests for an indoor or outdoor ceremony and for the wedding breakfast, and up to 250 people for the evening reception with a late-night license until 1 am.

dining areas have outdoor heating.
Inside there are bespoke super king-size wooden spindle beds built by Jamie Fraser, who is the owner, Anselm’s, cousin and bedding and mattresses from champions in sustainability, Naturalmat plus an indoor bathroom with shower.
The names for the treehouse are inspired by the South American medicine wheel (using British equivalent animals): Wren, Adder, Wild Cat, Sky, Earth and Kite. Sky is stair-free, and pram and wheelchair friendly.
The interior design sees another talented cousin of Anselm’s, Tracey Boyd, in charge. Tracey is a well-respected fashion and homewares designer with clients including Anthropologie. Each treehouse is different, using similar materials such as wood, metal and glass with Scandinavian sleek lines, accented by splashes of colour and textures.
Accommodation is flexible and suitable for couples, friends and families, sleeping two, three and four people. All treehouses have super king-size beds with a single trundle bed that slides out except Wren which has a super king-size bed with no trundle, sleeping two. The treehouses that sleep four guests have a day bed fitted into a snug next to the bedroom.
Whilst the treehouses are equipped for self-catering, guests can pre-order a range of food and drink items such as breakfast hampers, gourmet ready meals and wine, beers, soft drinks and even champagne directly from the estate kitchens.
Prices start from £290 per night in Wren; £340 per night in Adder, Wild Cat or Kite and £370 per night in Earth or Sky. The minimum stay is two nights. For reservations, visit www.elmorecourt.com/treehouses

What’s new?
Michelin-star restaurant, Bybrook, located within the historic hotel of The Manor House and the iconic Cotswold village of Castle Combe, is now open following a complete refurbishment to entice locals and travellers alike. The restaurant features a new interior design aesthetic, led by interior experts Trevillion, known for their previous work for Foxhill Manor, and Dormy House.
The makeover brings a more visually fresh and modern feel to Bybrook, whilst remaining sympathetic to the history of the property and the heritage of the Cotswolds, with design influences inspired by the kitchen
garden and Bybrook river. New additions to the restaurant include the new wine area consisting of a bank of EuroCave wine display fridges where all of the bottles on offer can be perused by diners, discussed with the Sommelier, and chosen to accompany the dining experience. Whilst the dining room delivers a fresh, crisp, contemporary experience, with additions such as the new light fixtures giving the space more ambience, comfortable banquette seating and a garden influence coming from a combination of planters and artwork inspired by nature printed on an antique mirror.
Along with the refresh comes some new dishes from executive chef Rob Potter and his team to the well-loved, award-winning tasting menu. Continuing to be influenced by the seasons, the dishes are inspired by the best of British produce, local farms and what’s harvested from within the grounds of The Manor House. New menu highlights include Salcombe crab with blood orange and grapefruit and salt-aged duck with liver, morel and beetroot. For dessert, there’s an apple with almond, Neston Park honey and Madagascan vanilla.
Private dining has also been part of the refurbishment, with The Saxon Room, offering a private dining space for up to 12 people to enjoy the tasting menu, or The Brook, a semi-private area of the restaurant for up to 40 people. The restaurant also extends out to an updated outdoor area to enjoy a pre or post-meal drink in the sun. Celebrating the abundant kitchen garden where just minutes after being harvested, gardeners are on hand to share their crops with the kitchen close by, a small collection of raised beds will be installed to grow an exceptional variety of vegetables besides the outdoor seating. Giving guests a feeling of participation in the wholesome concept of the kitchen garden to table.
General manager Gaius Wyncoll comments: “We’re so excited Bybrook is now open to local diners and our hotel guests with an inviting and fresh space to dine in, whether you’re a couple looking for an intimate dinner, or a group celebrating a special occasion. We can’t wait to welcome everyone and hear people’s thoughts.”

CHELTENHAM YURT HIRE
This family-run business located in the Cotswolds offers the most beautiful hand-crafted yurts for hire that are all made locally. They offer the most stunning venue option and unusual backdrop for weddings, different to marquees and tipis. Often, guests will have not seen them before which adds an element of surprise and excitement.
The Pavilion Yurts are unique in that they have a double-height roof which gives an immense feeling of space. The bright canvas material makes them light and airy inside and photographers love them because they provide the perfect lighting for photos.
The largest yurts can seat up to 150 guests for dining. Some couples prefer to have everything under one roof while others like to book multiple yurts; one for the dining and the other specifically for the evening entertainment, along with other yurts for a bar or chill-out lounge.
There’s a range of sizes available, from the largest ones that are most suited for dining, to the smaller yurts that make great bars, chill-out lounges, and glamping options.
The team at Cheltenham Yurt Hire can provide everything that couples need to create a fantastic outdoor celebration, from pretty things like furniture and fairylights to generators, toilets, stages and PA systems.
We offer an event management service where one of the expert team members will be on hand to take care of any operational issues throughout the day.
The yurts can be hired throughout the year and travel across the country but the team try to stick to weddings and celebrations in the South West as much as they can. Winter yurt weddings are a magical experience, it’s a different vibe. They can be filled with flowers and greenery and luxurious throws and sheepskins to create a winter wonderland, while heaters can be added to keep guests warm all night. During the summer months when it’s hot, the side canvas can be removed allowing the breeze to flow through and showcasing panoramic views.

WHAT’S NEW?
The Greenway Hotel and Spa, a quintessential escape set in eight acres located near the Regency town of Cheltenham has enjoyed a £1.2 million renovation. Tucked away on the outskirts of the rolling Cotswolds, The Eden Hotel Collection has stylishly refurbished all 21 bedrooms at The Greenway Hotel and Spa with each now boasting its own unique colour palette, personality and characteristics.
The extensive renovation project, led by director of The Eden Hotel Collection Marian Cartter, who heads up the group’s design team, assisted by renowned interior designer, Lucy Yarwood, combines the hotel’s natural rural setting with its rich history and enchanting period features such as original stone windows and roaring fireplaces.
Room layouts within the hotel have also been altered to create larger, more elevated spaces and expansive bathrooms, placing the guest experience very much at the forefront. Some of the distinct design schemes introduced include opulent marble bathrooms with features such as classic roll-top baths and elegant brassware, whilst others have drawn on existing features to build a sumptuous design unique to each room.
Interior designer Lucy Yarwood says, “We’re thrilled with the results and can’t wait to show our guests. Each room is different which makes it exciting when guests walk in. For instance, one of our bedrooms already had a lovely fireplace featuring tiles with birds on, which we thought was stunning but needed elevating, so we matched it to a feather-print headboard on the bed. What we have strived to do is create a classic style with a contemporary twist which combines the history of the building

The walled garden is totally enclosed and private covering over half an acre. It also has numerous specimen trees including one of the finest copper beach trees in Wiltshire.
The walled garden can be privately hired for your wedding, party or event.
A marquee will be positioned in the beautiful garden (your choice of style) and we can accommodate up to 150 guests. For smaller numbers a reduced sized marquee is available.

An interesting fact: did you know why we are we called The Wardrobe? The original building on the site was constructed in 1254. It was rebuilt in the 15th century and was used to store the robes of the Bishop of Salisbury; hence it was known as the “Bishop’s Wardrobe” or “The Wardrobe”!

Dionne and David Popplestone married on 21st August 2021 at St Mary’s Church, Painswick followed by a reception at Hilles House in Gloucestershire.
WhenI first met David, I was instantly drawn to his passion for business,” Dionne tells us. “He’s a confident, driven, smart man which are qualities that I find attractive.” David adds, “Dionne is gorgeous and that’s what immediately caught my eye but, in the end, it was her positive attitude, warmth and sense of fun that made me fall in love with her. You can’t help but feel good when you spend time around Dionne.”
The couple became engaged during a trip to Portugal. “We’ve been visiting there for years,” Dionne tells us. “The hotel closed the spa just for us and David led me through the oriental garden to a table laid for two under a pagoda. On it was a jigsaw puzzle which he suggested that I put together. I was trying to work out why he wanted me to complete a puzzle, but I did, and when the final piece clicked into place, it read ‘will you marry me’ which was a wonderful surprise!”
David tells us, “Although I’d been planning it for weeks, I was still a bit nervous, especially when Dionne was insistent on going somewhere different to where I’d planned to propose! Fortunately, it worked out. I wanted Dionne to choose her ring so we tied a gold ribbon on to each other’s fingers as a token.”
SETTING THE SCENE
David owns Cheltenham Yurt Hire so the couple were always going to use their beautiful yurts for their celebration. “We’d long considered Hilles House for our venue,” Dionne tells us. “Not only does it offer some of the best views of any wedding venue in the region, but it’s close to St Mary’s Church in Painswick where we were married and provided space in the grounds for the yurts - it had everything that we wanted.”
David adds, “We held our drinks reception inside the Big Hall at Hilles House before moving down to our yurt village. We used a range of giant yurts from Cheltenham Yurt Hire to create several different zones for our guests to enjoy. We had a dining yurt, one for dancing and the DJ, a bar yurt, a chill-out lounge, a crèche for the children (complete with nannies) and a powder room for the bridal party. It was unique, relaxed and elegant which is exactly what we wanted to achieve. It was our own private festival set against the backdrop of the iconic Hilles House - we still get comments about how amazing the yurts and venue were to this day.”
Dionne and David wanted their suppliers to be as local as possible and are fortunate to be friends with some extremely talented local businesses and artisans. “It was wonderful to realise that every element had been crafted by somebody who
“The catering team at Marinades revisited Hilles House on the Sunday after our wedding to provide a barbecue for the remaining guests. We all sat in the sunshine and shared stories from the night before, taking time to reflect on everything that we’d experienced. This made our wedding feel more personal, bespoke and tailored. It was our own private event which is one of the advantages of a festival-style wedding - you’d never get that time with a traditional venue.” - Dionne and David

we cared for and who cares about us,” they tell us. “For our table plan, we sourced an antique pine door from a local seller and decorated it with a gold leaf design. The names of each guest were hand-written and we also had a hand-painted order of the day designed by an artist called Dawn. Our antique pine welcome board now takes pride of place in our hallway! For their table names, Dionne and David decided on places that meant something to them both. “David’s daughter hand-wrote the place names in calligraphy and gold ink,” Dionne says.
For the favours, the couple chose something to eat, something to drink and something for good luck. “Our friend at Coco Confectionary of Nailsworth created some tasty chocolate truffles and we had a small bottle of Wray and Nephew overproof rum to celebrate my Jamaican heritage,” Dionne explains. We also gave each guest a lottery ticket.”
Dionne’s friend Gemma from the florist Petals and Pampas created the flower arrangements. “Gemma and I met in a professional capacity and quickly became friends. I’ve always admired her talent so it was a natural choice to ask her to create our flower arrangements,” Dionne says. We asked her to produce something using the blush pink shades of our bridesmaids’ dresses and what she produced was both bespoke and breathtaking - we couldn’t have been happier.”
Pia at The Vanilla Pod Bakery made the four-tier naked cake that was displayed on a wooden block and scattered with fresh berries. “It looked, and tasted incredible - I only wish I’d eaten more of it on the day!” Dionne says. “We also had a wheel cake of cheese from Armadeli. Armorel is a good friend so again, I trusted her to create something wonderful and it was lovely.”
The couple’s menu was devised by Joanna Parker, a local caterer. “We had fresh crab to start followed by chicken and tarragon sauce and a salted caramel tart for dessert,” Dionne says. “Our evening caterers were Marinades of Cheltenham who cooked up some delicious Jamaican street food.”
LOOKING THE PART
Dionne wore a bridal dress by Enzoani. “The dress chose me,” Dionne says. “I started a Pinterest board and the majority of the gowns that I liked were all from Enzoani so I knew I wanted something from that designer. I began following The Dressing Rooms on Instagram and they posted a picture of this gorgeous dress. When I tried it on, it looked better than any other styles that I’d picked so I knew it was the one.” Dionne accessorised her dress with the tiara that her mum got married in 45 years beforehand and the couple’s bespoke wedding rings were designed by their friend, Dean who is a jeweller.”
David and his groomsmen wore identical navy tailcoats teamed with gold waistcoats and blush cravats. “Rob at Regency Groom in Bishops Cleeve where we purchased the suits from was so patient and helpful,” David says.
The couple’s bridesmaids wore blush pink sequinned and tulle dresses. “My maid-of-honour wore a fully sequinned style,” Dionne tells us.
TIME TO CELEBRATE
During the champagne and canapés reception, Dionne and David booked the talented saxophonist Lynden Blades to perform. “As luck would have it, we had a family friend who happens to be a well-known DJ to MC for the day and to DJ for us during the evening,” Dionne says. “I would strongly recommend an MC because it ensures that everything runs on time. “There were no awkward moments and our guests knew where they needed to be and what was coming next at all times.”
29 REAL WEDDINGS
“One memorable moment for me was watching the children running around without a care in the world. Knowing they were being well looked after by the nannies in the crèche yurt was the icing on the cake and meant the adults could enjoy themselves in the knowledge their kids were occupied and safe.” - David
“Nothing prepares you for hearing the announcement that you’re husband and wife. Some of my favourite moments were listening to the speeches which were so moving and sitting at the top table watching our guests enjoying themselves. The first dance with my dad was also very special.”

Something blue
Rosie and James’s wedding at The Pear Tree in Purton enjoyed a pale blue theme with hints of white, sage green and black Images courtesy of Neil Atkinson Photography
Rosie and James first met 12 years ago and were friends for years. “I allowed him to take me on a coffee date after he sent roses and chocolates to my office – how could I say no!” Rosie tells us. From then we became inseparable until James was deployed to Afghanistan in July 2019 for a four-month RAF tour.”
The couple became engaged when James returned to the UK in time for Rosie’s birthday. “We went on holiday to Thailand to celebrate his homecoming,” Rosie tells us. “We travelled to Phuket, Ko Phi Phi and Bangkok where we stayed in the tallest hotel. The suite was incredible with far-flung views across the city and just as James pointed out some fireworks in the distance, he got down on one knee!”
Here, Rosie tells us all about their wedding at Wiltshire venue The Pear Tree in Purton which was decorated with a pale blue, white, sage-green and black colour theme.
Rosemary (Rosie) and James Norrish married on Friday 23rd September 2022 at The Pear Tree in Purton, Wiltshire.

WEDDINGS
We looked at plenty of venues and The Pear Tree in Purton offered everything that we wanted in one place. It looked sleek, worked with our chosen colours and the orangery looked so light and beautiful, giving that indoor and outdoor feel that we wanted.
The ceremony was so personal to us because a friend was our registrar. James felt so emotional during it.
After becoming a couple, I started to learn British Sign Language by doing an online course and with James teaching me. When we decided to make our own promises during our wedding ceremony, I started to learn mine in sign language with the help of James’s sister in secret. The only people who knew were her, our registrar and the interpreter. It was a big moment and both James and the rest of our guests were in floods of tears. This was beyond one of my proudest moments.
James’s parents are both deaf so it was very important to us that throughout our wedding day, they felt included. We had an interpreter there for them and some of our other guests who were also deaf.
My dad made our table plan which James then painted. A friend of mine finished it by writing the names in alphabetical order.
Our favours were our favourite shots that we enjoyed on a holiday in Crete when we first became a couple. They’re called Craig David and were a mix of tequila and pineapple juice.
The ceremony room set-up looked wonderful.
Top tip: Enjoy the day and make sure you have some time for yourselves. Don’t do everything DIY, get professional suppliers to help you so that you can relax on the day. It’s about you and your partner, that’s what everyone is there to celebrate.” - Rosie and James
34
It was important to us to have beautiful tall centrepieces that ensured our guests could see each across the tables because it meant that our deaf guests could easily communicate. They included classic white flowers and greenery displayed in tall black geometric stands.
We had timeless white flowers mixed with greenery and tied with blue ribbons for the bridesmaids’ posies and the groomsmen’s buttonholes.
James plays rugby so I surprised him with a cake topper of a bride tackling a rugby ball! On our first holiday in Crete, James picked out this cake topper expressing that he wanted it at our wedding (before we were even boyfriend and girlfriend!)
Our three-tier cake had a hexagonal-shaped bottom tier and two circular tiers. They were all white with a pale blue marble effect. The delicious flavours included lemon meringue; coconut and lime and also chocolate and clementine and the tiers were decorated with our initials as cake charms.
Our table names were blue geometric numbers displayed in black stands resting on top of blue chiffon table puddles. Our place names were blue with white writing that we attached to the personalised menus.
I threw a white rugby ball (rather than my bouquet) to make sure that James had a few rugby elements included in our special day!
REAL WEDDINGS 35
I wore a dress by Dando London called Sirius which I loved! I wanted a sexy and stylish gown with dramatic back detail which this dress had!
I loved my large bridal bouquet that had my late grandmother’s rings attached.
During the drinks reception, we had homemade garden games and a canvas which our guests painted which was a great idea! Emma, from Make Your Mark Events was the artist and I’ve never seen this idea at a wedding before. We wanted interactive and creative entertainment that didn’t require there to be a language issue so Emma taped an outline of a Thai-style boat from a picture taken when we got engaged and our guests painted each section creating the most amazing piece of artwork for us to keep.
Our beautiful bridesmaids wore pale blue tulle one-shoulder maxi dresses.
James wore his RAF uniform during the ceremony and changed into a navy suit to match the groomsmen and our dads afterwards. Our groomsmen wore navy suits with pocket squares, personalised tie clips, dusky blue ties and different coloured blue socks. Our dads had personalised ties with images of them with us both as babies inside.
We had a choreographed first dance. As a dancer, this was a big part of the day for me and James did the most amazing job learning the choreography.
Later in the evening, we had a DJ and a saxophonist play which got the party going!
THE DREAM TEAM
I felt so happy all day! It went by so quickly and I’m pleased that I got to spend so much time with my new husband.

Holly and Mike’s English country garden wedding at Pauntley Court was a two-day affair

Holly and Mike met at secondary school.
“We were in different sets but in year nine we started sharing some of the same classes,” Holly tells us. “Mike was a joker and I was too shy to speak to him for a long time but he always managed to make me laugh. He was also persistent - after the second time of asking, I agreed to go out with him and we’ve been together for 15 years now.”
Mike proposed to Holly a few weeks before their tenth anniversary. “He was about to retire from his rugby career and I had just left my job so that we could go travelling to South America for three months,” Holly explains. On a Wednesday evening the week before we were due to fly to Colombia, and the night before Mike was leaving for Toronto for his last
rugby game, he was insistent that we go for a walk to our favourite park. When we arrived, it was dusk and the park had closed. I turned to go home but Mike suggested that we jump the fence! After trying to convince him that this wasn’t a good idea, I spotted candles on the grass under a tree. Mike led me into the circle of candles and asked ‘well, will you then’ to which I replied ‘yes!’ As we hopped back over the fence, two of our friends were holding glasses of bubbly – and there’s still a candle buried at the bottom of the tree in the park!”
SETTING THE SCENE
The couple wanted a wedding that enabled them to spend as much time with their close friends and family as they could, so they

decided on a two-day celebration. “We wanted a venue with beautiful gardens for an outdoor ceremony and one where we could enjoy a pre-wedding dinner with our loved ones the evening before,” Holly says. “The first time we viewed Pauntley Court, it was raining hard yet we still loved it, so we knew it was the one
The couple decided on an English country garden theme. “Our florists Christiane and Beth created a stunning floral archway as the ceremony backdrop which looked amazing!” Holly tells us. “Walking down the aisle is something neither of us will ever forget.”
Mike’s auntie is also a florist so as their wedding present, she made the table flower centrepieces displayed in rustic urns. “They suited our English garden theme perfectly,” Holly says. The couple decided on a long table for 16 guests as their top table and round tables for the rest. “This worked well for my blended family,” Holly tells us. “I’d seen a mirror design on Pinterest for the seating plan which I recreated by bringing my hallway mirror from home and sticking the names of each table on it. I loved how it turned out so it was worth the stress of packing two large mirrors in the car! We also used our lounge mirror for the welcome sign and some candles, lanterns and blankets from home to decorate the inside of the marquee and around the firepits. I also brought some plants from our garden to place at the end of the aisle and then move inside the marquee to add some greenery to the bar area. The bouquets and arrangements of flowers that lined the aisle were positioned on the circular bar in the middle of the marquee.
Mike’s dad, Martin, is well-known for making sloe gin so he created a special batch ahead of the wedding that became the couple’s favours and place settings. “Names and nicknames were printed on the gin bottles and our table names were after places and countries that mean a lot to us both,” Holly tells us.
Holly and Mike had two large Kilner jugs of cocktails at their drinks reception named after their dog, Bobby. “Mike loves his food so I left that decision to him!” Holly says. “We had steak or sea bass for the main course and shared sides and salads on the tables to create a summer barbecue-at-home vibe.”
The couple’s budget was almost spent by the time they decided on their cake so they purchased a two-tier naked cake from M&S for £40. “I ordered a pack of pressed flowers and stuck them on,” Holly tells us. “It was just big enough to cut for the photographs and for some guests to enjoy a slice in the evening if they fancied it.”
LOOKING THE PART
Holly wore a bridal dress by Enzoni. “I thought I wanted a tight, floral or lace gown to suit the venue and our outdoor ceremony but I ended up with a style that was the complete opposite!” she says. It took me a few weeks to decide to buy it but when I took my maid-of-honour, Jade, with me to see it and I saw her reaction, I purchased it!
Mike and his groomsmen wore cream linen suits with dark green ties and socks. “They all wore the same outfits and looked amazing, Holly says. “Mike is really into his clothes so they all went on a trip to London to pick their suits! “We both loved getting ready with our closest friends and family on the morning of our wedding.”
The maid-of-honour dresses were sage-green styles with a floral lace design on them. “They featured a small train and gorgeous button detail down the back, which I had added to my bridal dress,” Holly tells us. “They all have different figures and I loved how the chosen style suited each of them. They looked beautiful with their matching necklaces which I gave them as a thank-you gift.”
TIME TO CELEBRATE
“Music is a big part of our relationship and was a priority for our big day,” Holly says. “The live band who performed during the evening made it so special and we’re so grateful for what they did. We also had a saxophonist playing whilst our guests arrived before the ceremony, a roaming band during the drinks reception a DJ in the evening.”
“Our female bridal party gave a joint speech which was so special.” - Holly and Mike

UNVEILED
How do I go about choosing a wedding veil?
Meet the experts: Sarah Jane Bates is the head designer at Britten Weddings, a Wiltshire-based online boutique selling luxurious hand-crafted bridal accessories and veils.
Sarah Jane says: The veil was traditionally worn by brides to retain their modesty until officially becoming married women. Today, the veil is increasing in popularity and there are many options available. The right veil can transform your look and enhance your dress.
LENGTH
The names of the different types of veil imply the setting they are expected to be used in so for example, if you want to make a dramatic entrance in a small church then the long cathedral-length style will provide the perfect pick.
A popular choice is the fingertip-length veil which is around 122cm long. These offer an excellent mid-way point between short and long veils and tend to work well with most dress styles. You can’t beat the romance of a longer veil and if you want one that’s longer than your gown, we would normally recommend you opt for something about 20 to 30cm longer than your train. The best way to measure for this is to stand up straight wearing your wedding dress and measure from the top of your head straight down the middle of your back to the end of the train of your dress. Add approximately 20 to 30cm to this measurement which will provide you with the perfect veil length. Don’t panic if you can’t find one that fits, we can make them to bespoke lengths.
COLOUR
The main three colours on offer at Britten Weddings are ivory, off-white and white veils. Our ivory one is a warm colour that’s ever-so-slightly cream. The off-white style is a very pale ivory design and there’s also soft white and an optic white. We also stock champagne and blush pink tones in the traditional tulle. The tulle colour does not need to match your dress exactly, they just need to tone in well together. If in doubt, go one shade lighter than your dress. If you are unsure then order our tulle samples.
TYPES OF VEIL
There are many different types of the veil. The most popular are single-tier styles, two-tier designs and barely-there veils. Single tier means that the veil flows from its attachment point (normally a comb) down the back. A two-tier wedding veil has a ‘blusher’ layer that can be pulled forward
FABULOUSLY FLORAL
Meet the expert: Silvina Martinez yañez is the founder of The Glam Bijoux based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire selling handmade clay floral jewellery, perfect for weddings.
I want to wear a statement piece of jewellery on my wedding day that’s colourful and will coordinate with my bridesmaids’ dresses –what do you suggest?
Silvina says: Whether it’s an orchid, a poppy, a tea rose or even a succulent, why not wear your favourite flower in your big-day jewellery choices? I make floral jewellery and home décor by hand using clay which creates a keepsake piece for the big day and beyond.
https://theglambijoux.co.uk; www.facebook.com/theglambijoux; www.instagram.com/theglambijoux
over the face. This is raised during the ceremony for the first kiss or at the exact moment you become married and is then swept back over the head to form a second layer at the back of the veil. We make our blushers 72cm long but they can be made to any length if requested. Our barely-there veils are probably our most popular type of veil. This refers to the way the veil is cut rather than the fabric used, and these veils will have no gather to them making them perfect for showing off all of the beautiful detail on the back of your dress.
MATERIAL
We offer many different materials for our veils from traditional tulle which offers a bit of body and volume and gives you that traditional veil look, to pure soft silk tulle which is one of the most luxurious of all our tulles that drape beautifully. The material you choose will be dictated by your dress and any edges or finishes that you would like.
EDGES AND FINISHES
The finish of the veil can be just as important as its main design. Adding a lace trim, or a satin edge can help to add that important finishing touch. Fuller, structured wedding dresses tend to benefit from decorative veil edges, whereas softer dresses with a sleek look are more likely to suit a simple cut-edge veil. Equally a scattering of pearls or crystals or some personalised embroidery can make your veil extra special.

BAN THE BLOAT
Professional nutritionists Wedding Wellness explain how to avoid untimely bloating on your wedding day
Oneof the most common digestive complaints is bloating, an uncomfortable, sometimes heavy sensation that can follow after eating a meal that for some, also results in feeling tired, unable to concentrate and having a physically noticeable bloated tummy. Not symptoms you want to endure on any day, let alone on one as special as your wedding.
There are many possible causes of bloating, some of which come with additional digestive complaints such as pain, constipation and flatulence – usually an indication of poor gut health. These symptoms are usually referred to as IBS by doctors, but may also be the result of intolerances, allergies or other gut disease. There are however some simple, everyday things you can consider to help reduce that after-meal bloat. County Wedding Magazines’ beauty and wellness editor, Kelly Andrews, chatted to Minal Sudra and Elizabeth Andrews from Wedding Wellness to find out more.
CHEW PROPERLY
Most of us chow down through conversation, mid emails or in front of the telly without giving much thought to chewing our food. But, there are enzymes in the mouth that kick start digestion and if you haven’t allowed enough time for them to work in the mouth, it can make life more difficult for the rest of the gut to properly break down food, leading to irritation and bloating. Aim to chew each bite 20 to 30
times to allow the gut to digest with ease.
EAT AWAY FROM DISTRACTIONS
Focussing on food in front of you not only helps you to taste it better, your brain also has the chance to engage with what you see and smell before the first bite. Without the distraction of something else, potentially stressful, such as work emails, social media, or the latest crime drama on TV, your body is in a state of calm referred to as “rest and digest,” which is optimal at meal times. An otherwise engaged body won’t produce enough stomach acid to properly break down food, which may result in bloating and irritation. Take a proper lunch break, sit at the dining table without the TV on and put your phone away to allow your gut to concentrate on doing its thing.
START WITH SOMETHING BITTER
Ever wondered why a bitter green salad usually accompanies steak, or mint sauce is served with lamb? Bitter foots such as rocket, kale, chicory, lemon and watercress help kick start the digestive process by encouraging stomach acid production. This is especially important for meals that include fats and red meat, which compared to other foods, take longer to break down. Include raw and bitter foods with a lemon or vinegary dressing to start your meal and help your gut prepare for optimal digestion.
AVOID DRINKING WITH MEALS
It’s important for the stomach to be very acidic when digesting food, but drinking lots of liquid between mouthfuls can lower the concentration of acid, reducing the rate at which the gut digests. It’s recommended to drink 20 to 30 minutes before or after a meal to aid efficient digestion and prevent bloating. If you do like to drink with your food, stick to smaller sips rather than large gulps.
LOOK OUT FOR PATTERNS
If you tend to feel bloated after most meals, take note of what might be causing it. Some common culprits can be gluten or wheat, dairy, sugar, or fat-heavy foods such as red meat and fried foods. Compare how you feel when you don’t eat these items to get an idea of triggers or possible intolerances. Speak to a health professional for tailored advice and support on how to improve your symptoms with functional testing available for further insight.

BOOST YOUR SKIN FROM WITHIN
Raising the bar, St.Tropez’s new Self Tan Luxe Body Serum infused with a unique collagen-enhancing complex, responds to consumer demand for a hydrating, longer-lasting natural glow with skincare benefits. It works to firm, smooth, soothe, reduce redness and even skin tone while instantly hydrating skin in the most easy-to-use format yet. What’s more, it’s infused with the iconic St.Tropez Luxe scent, a fine fragrance with Tritech Olfactory Fragrance Technology, which equals no biscuity smell.
Having learned of its zero transfer attribute I asked Michaella Bolder, St.Tropez tanning and skincare expert, whether she’d recommend this particular product to brides, and if so when would be the best time to apply. She told me, “Yes, it’s a beautiful tan for brides. However, I’d always recommend to apply tan the day before. This way, you can be prepped and make sure you apply evenly without any worries or concerns on the morning of your wedding. It is zero transfer but as the tan starts to take, you want to make sure you’re super-confident, as it comes through over four to eight hours. So, always apply the day, evening or 24 hours before your big day. It leaves you with a beautiful rich, medium glow and with the skin being so hydrated it just beams.”
£35, available at Boots, Superdrug, Look Fantastic, ASOS, Amazon and all leading online retailers.

This lightweight water cream makeup primer with skincare benefits claims to blur pores and control shine for a long-lasting soft matte finish, and I can confirm it does just that. It feels fantastic to apply and leaves skin feeling satin smooth. After a long day visiting London recently my foundation looked as good when I arrived home as it did when I left. What’s more, it’s 90 per cent natural, clean, vegan, cruelty-free, noncomedogenic, paraben-free, and silicone-free. I’ve found a new favourite! £31, www.cultbeauty.co.uk

OH-SO NATURAL
Founded in 1996, Ringana is a pioneering Austrian skincare company creating products so fresh it’s recommended they’re used within 10 weeks of opening. As well as using fantastic vegan formulations, the products also feature some of 2023’s most sought after active ingredients. I love the Tinted Moisturiser from the brand’s FRESH range, containing squalane. This olive-oil based ingredient is becoming increasingly popular because it helps to reconstitute our hydrolipidic film and is easily absorbed without leaving an oily residue behind. It works to strengthen the skin’s barrier and maintain hydration too. As a result, this gorgeous moisturiser creates a radiant, perfectly even complexion. Plus, the product covers the skin in a delicate tint, thanks to mineral pigments that adapt beautifully to its tone erasing small defects, redness and pigmentation spots. £40.80 (€46,90), www.ringana.com

ENCOUNTER THE ELEMENTS
This year sees perfume house Issey Miyake present two new fragrances: L’Eau d’Issey Pivonie (£68, 50ml) and L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme Vétiver (£59, 50ml). The two launches celebrate nature in all its beauty, starting with water, of course, but also ushering in lush, vibrant florals and the intensity of vetiver.
L’Eau d’Issey Pivoine is 87 per cent made up of ingredients of natural origin, while this proportion for L’Eau d’Issey pour Home Vétiver is even higher at 93 per cent. These ingredients are exclusively sourced in a manner that respects the principles of fair trade and are responsibly harvested.
The perfect duo for the perfect duo! Available exclusively at The Perfume Shop from 26th March, 2023.

BEAUTY BAG
Meet the expert: Juliet Draper is a hair and make-up artist covering weddings in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and throughout the Cotswolds. She’s also a TWIA South West Regional Finalist 2021.
What are the bridal hair and make-up trends for weddings this year?
Juliet says: With summer around the corner, a natural make-up style with a light smokey eye is very on-trend at the moment. Brides are increasingly leaning more towards a lighter look achieved by using dewy foundation, soft blusher shades and pink lipstick colours. In recent years, bridal make-up has focused on fuller coverage foundation and a heavier smokey eye. Individual and cluster lashes are becoming more popular than the heavier-looking false lashes.
When it comes to hair, half-up and half-down styles with soft curls have been very popular in recent years. A textured, relaxed high bun is beginning to make a comeback and would be a lovely style for an outdoor summer wedding. A veil can be attached underneath the bun so that the hairstyle is still visible. Flowers are always a fun addition to any hairstyle and can be easily worn on a variety of different hair accessories including hairbands, clips and floral crowns.

With fitness and wellness a priority for many people, especially couples getting married, Snap Fitness has opened eight new locations within the last four months, all of which are seeing significant success in membership sales. Brand confidence is further buoyed by the growth in clubs that have opened over the last few years. They offer 24-hour gym access to the best range of cardio, strength, and functional training equipment, group fitness classes and qualified personal trainers.
The network’s newest launch in Pontyclun smashed the network’s pre-sale records with more than 780 members joining before even opening its doors earlier this February. Similar success has been achieved at Snap Fitness Melksham, which opened in January this year, and registered 840 members in its first month. Is there any special etiquette when it comes to styling hair for the bride and also the bridesmaids?
Becky says: I always suggest that the bride has a different hairstyle to the rest of the bridal party so that they stand out. The bridesmaids can have the same style, depending on whether they have similar-length locks which look nice and coordinated.

SELF-CARE Soothing
Our Social Media Editor, Gracie Leader, immersed herself in the world of Reiki to find out if the form of meditation can help you remain calm in the lead up to your big day
76
It’sno understatement to say that planning your big day can cause your stress levels to shoot all the way up. Not only are you spending a great deal of time (and money) to ensure every little detail is perfect; it also represents a giant life change you are about to experience with your partner.
That’s why, in the lead up to your nuptials, practicing self-care is more important than ever. Whilst self-care can look different for everyone (exercising, eating healthily or reading) one form of mindfulness you may not have thought of before is reiki.
Reiki is best known as a form of Complementary Therapy that focuses on energy healing. It works with the energy fields around the body and involves the transfer of universal energy, to be channelled from the practitioner’s palms to your body.
The thought process behind Reiki is that every living thing and their surrounding atmosphere contains energy, and so this can be channelled in a way to rebalance energy.
For a person, this is within the body and mind to support both your physical and emotional wellbeing. The physical in terms of aches and pains, the emotional in terms of feelings of anxiety and stress.
There is scepticism that surrounds the practice of Reiki. But there is a reason the NHS supports and recommends it as a hospital service and even if you are not a fan of spirituality, there is evidence to suggest Reiki may be useful to help manage mental health conditions, particularly anxiety, stress and depression.
Of course, I couldn’t possibly recommend Reiki without indulging in the self-care practice myself. So, in February, after a hectic and busy start to the year I met with Reiki Master, Georgina Hemsley. Georgina has been practicing Reiki for over 11 years. A qualified therapist, Georgina owned her own salon for 3 years specialising in massage, Reiki and facial treatments and a focus on organic and natural skincare.
“Reiki supports our emotional and mental well-being in many different ways, and can be different for each person, each time, Georgina explained to me. “This is dependent on what a person may be experiencing at the time of receiving reiki or if they have come for a reiki session for a specific reason, for example, to help them, in advance, navigate the sometimes overwhelming process of getting married. We suggest a treatment per month in the run up to your big day so we can support you from the beginning and you can enjoy the entire process right up to when you say I do.”
After getting myself comfortable on the treatment bed, Georgina explained how my body might (or might not) react to the treatment. She told me that some people feel very hot, others feel extremely cold, and some describe seeing bright colours or flashes of light. Georgina warned me it can be an emotional process and to allow any or all feelings to bubble up.
Georgina began the session with some guided mediation including breathwork and manifestation. She asked me to clearly consider my intentions for the rest of 2023 and place them at the front of my mind.
Your intention are vital when practicing reiki. Georgina encouraged me to ask myself “what are my stresses? Is anything troubling me? What would I like to receive?” I learnt, the more direct you can be about your self-healing practice, the more the universe will hear you.
I then received a temple massage to release tension and promote relaxation. This absolutely eased me into the right mindset for the rest of the treatment and allowed me to drift into a world of calm.
For the rest of the hour Georgina got to work – doing what she does best – using a combination of crystals, sound baths, and gentle touches to my pressure points.
At the end of the session Georgina informed me she had spent time rebalancing my chakras – noting my throat chakra was particularly unbalanced. She explained I might feel a difference in the way I communicate in the next few days - wanting to stay quiet or be more vocal.
“During a treatment, I disassociate myself from the physical being of the client. I am an extension of their energy. A vessel if you will,” Georgina explains. “It is not unusual to pick up on their feelings or any pains they may be experiencing during the session. I allow myself to be intuitively guided to move my focus to the parts of the body that need work. I clear this energy and set an intention to balance and instil a sense of calm.”
Whilst everyone sees different results from reiki, I came away from my first treatment feeling relaxed, renewed and with a sense I was better prepared to tackle anything come my way.
I recommend going in with an open mind and allow yourself to fully immerse in the treatment. Although it can’t be guaranteed the treatment will work for everyone, giving yourself an hour to switch off and allow someone else take your worries into their hands, can never be a bad idea.
As Georgina explained to me, she can’t recommend reiki enough for brides-to-be planning their big day. “We all know whilst our wedding is a magical day, the build-up can be very stressful. Reiki healing can help guide you throughout the planning and preparation, reiki will work with you to give you exactly what you need, so you can be very specific on your intention and what you want to gain from the reiki healing,” Georgina explains. “This could be to receive more support from your friends and family, to conquer any last-minute hurdles that arise, to ease your nerves, or to support your energy to feel calm and relaxed throughout.”
Caring for yourself and practicing mindfulness doesn’t always have to be seeking out these treatments however. Not everyone has the time, or indeed money, to meet a reiki master regularly.
Instead, it is important to find what works for you and build it in to your daily routine. Taking elements of Reiki into your self-care routine in the run up to the big day will help you to feel more relaxed and calmer. Self-care for you could reading, journaling or completing your skincare routine.
As Georgina is also the founder of Hemsley Organics she knows the importance of a good skin care routine. “Our Organic skincare can give you a well-deserved serotonin boost and provides an opportunity for mindfulness. Having a morning or evening routine can make you feel happier, as it’s all about the ritual and putting time and energy into making yourself feel good,” she explains. “Implementing a ritual can deepen that sense of well-being and prompt you to take just a little time out for yourself each morning and evening.”
Georgina and her husband Joe created the Anahata Collection to combine Skincare and Reiki. Feel good products that work to balance the plant-based extractions from the manufacturing process. Allowing them to be in their purest state of energy, as nature intended, supercharging them with their natural energies to enhance the efficacy of their benefits and provide a more spiritual skincare experience. For more information or to book a private reiki session with Georgina go to www.hemsleyorganics.com

Styling advice for the groom-to-be
Choosing a wedding dress is only part of the story when it comes to your big-day styling. To achieve a coordinated look, it’s important to think about what the groom-to-be and groomsmen will be wearing too. What you choose will ultimately come down to the style of wedding that you’re planning, the location and, of course, the time of year. To help you create the perfect look, the experts at Suit Direct (www.suitdirect.co.uk) have shared their styling advice.
HOW SHOULD A SUIT FIT?
Whichever style you go for can make or break your look. An ill-fitting suit, sagging shoulders, or a bunched-up jacket instantly cheapens your look – so how can you tell if a suit fits correctly?
Shoulders – a perfect fit will see your suit jacket lie flat on your shoulders and not be too bunched up or hanging off at the edges. A good benchmark is being able to relax your shoulders easily and comfortably.
Jacket – a suit jacket should close without strain and not cause creases, bunching, or sag forward when buttoned up. Equally, it should drape smartly when open and not droop down at the sides. You should be able to slide your thumb between the button of the jacket and your stomach without it feeling too tight or loose. In terms of length, the bottom of the jacket should end where your thumb knuckle is, and you should leave the bottom button undone to allow more freedom of movement.
Arms – the sleeves of a suit should be snug but not tight and show around 1cm of the shirt’s cuff – perfect if you want to show off cufflinks.
Trousers – the trousers of your suit should fit comfortably around the waist without falling away from your hips. They should just graze the top of your shoes or even leave a small gap. Trousers that are too long will bunch up and spill over your shoe – so make sure you know your leg measurements.
HOW TO MEASURE A SUIT
Measuring for a suit can take a little bit of effort, but it’s worthwhile to ensure you look sleek and sophisticated on the day. Size up if you’re looking for a skinny-fit jacket and trousers, and don’t rely on old measurements – you’d be surprised how quickly they can change.
Measure and note down the most prominent part of your chest, the narrowest part of your
waist and from the top seam of your inside leg to the trouser hem. Then, slip on a jacket and measure from your shoulder to your shirt’s cuff. Men with larger waistlines should take this measurement where they would naturally wear their trousers – this will ensure a plus-sized gentleman can still get a comfortable fit.
HOW TO MIX AND MATCH SUITS?
When it comes to mixing and matching, the main thing to note is the colour of each suiting element; create a combination that works in harmony, complements each piece and doesn’t clash too much. Pair a coloured jacket with dark trousers or chinos for the perfect smart-casual look, or pair a classic tailored men’s suit jacket with a mismatched pair of coloured trousers. Whether you’re after a formal look or a creative combo – the options are endless. The suit has evolved, and it’s now acceptable to wear tailoring your way.

AFFAIR A grand
Louise Prance experienced the ultimate luxury combined with traditional Greek appeal at Rhodes-based Ixian Grand & All Suites
Approaching Rhodes by air, you’d be forgiven for missing a bird’s-eye view of the Ixian Grand & All Suites thanks to the beauty of Greece’s largest island, but for the eagle-eyed travellers you can spot the hotel due to its inimitable layout and luxurious beachfront private pool suites nestled luxuriously on the beach of Ixia Bay, just metres away from the sea.
Ixian Grand & All Suites is only 7km away from Rhodes town and the Medieval City of Rhodes, as well as being a mere 10-minute drive from Filerimos, one of the three ancient cities of Rhodes.
Overlooking the Ixia Bay and Aegean Sea, this hotel has the beauty of being adult-only, so is the ideal destination for a honeymoon offering total relaxation.
LUXE APPEAL
With 124 deluxe guestrooms with garden or sea view, the garden complex offers accommodation in 122 spacious and comfortable guestrooms, while the suites area is comprised of five buildings with 102 rooms and suites.
While all rooms offer a level of luxury only befitting a resort of this calibre, the aforementioned beachfront private pool suites are without doubt the way to go if you’re looking for a once-ina-lifetime experience, and I can attest you will wake up every morning to pinch-me-moments looking out over your private infinity pool to the crystal clear Aegean sea that stretches as far as
the eye can see. Looking for further wow factor? Enjoy a romantic soak in the bath and appreciate the floor-to-ceiling windows while watching the sun set over the ocean.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Talking romance, no honeymoon is complete without a romantic meal or five, and the Ixian Grand & All Suites has romantic eateries down to a fine art. Vis-à-Vis, the hotel’s main buffet restaurant, focuses mostly on the Mediterranean diet and the Greek cuisine, but also international food.
Milonges, is an open-air restaurant offers traditional Greek cuisine and is located by the main swimming pool, serving lunch and dinner, while Muza Htista offers Japanese and Peruvian cultures. My personal favourite was the Alazonia Suites Restaurant – while only available to those staying in suites, this stylish restaurant serves breakfast and dinner, with outdoor or indoor seating options.
Evenings were spent embracing the laidback Greek culture and indulging in a tipple or three at Truman’s Lobby Bar, which has a stunning terrace with views to the gardens, pools and the sea.
AND RELAX…
If you’re able to drag yourself away from the room, the pools and the idyllic scenery, then it’s almost a perquisite to try out the hotel’s spa, and Ixian Grand & All Suites offers one of the most tranquil I’ve had the pleasure of attending.
Offering massages, facials and beauty therapies, the spa also has an indoor pool and a Turkish bath, as well as a complimentary gym with a fitness instructor offering various daily classes – if you’re so inclined. I opted for a more relaxing pastime instead, and indulged in a full body
84
massage. An hour of total bliss, I emerged feeling even more relaxed, if that’s at all possible.
SIGHT SEEING
While it may be unimaginable why you’d want to leave the hotel’s complex, it would be remiss to visit a Greek island and not explore the locality and embrace the culture. We opted for a day trip to the Medieval Rhodes Old Town.
With walls four kilometres long, the Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and dates back more than 2000 years. With a breathtaking history, the site features Medieval buildings, mosques, traditional fountains, oriental motifs, Byzantine and Gothic churches, shops, a market and restaurants aplenty.
We whiled away hours mooching inbetween the castle walls, picking up classic Greek souvenirs before sampling traditional Greek food – and of course wine. What could be better than enjoying a sun-drenched glass of white while looking at white-washed buildings before heading back for sundowners at the hotel?
No honeymoon would be complete without getting out on the water, and activities abound in Rhodes. From SUP fun, to romantic boat rides, to kayak tours. Tick the aqua box and your romantic Greek getaway would be really complete.

The network’s newest launch in Pontyclun smashed the network’s pre-sale records with more than 780 members joining before even opening its doors earlier this February. Similar success has been achieved at Snap Fitness Melksham, which opened in January this year, and registered 840 members in its first month. Snap Fitness Melksham’s owner and multi-unit franchisee, Samraaj Aujla tells us, “It has been more than two years since my dad and I opened our first gym in Christchurch. Meet the expert: Rebecca Pattenden is the founder of Beauty and Hair by Rebecca located in Gloucester offering a wide range of beauty and hair treatments.
