THE WARDROBE WALLED
A newly launched wedding and events venue in the heart of historic Salisbury.
The Wardrobe is a secret hideaway located to the rear of the Rifleman’s Museum. It is situated in the tranquil setting of the cathedral close and the wonderful garden leads down to the banks of the river Avon. With the rolling countryside beyond, it is difficult to imagine a better location within the Salisbury city limits for any outdoor event, be it a wedding reception, celebration or garden party.
The walled garden is totally enclosed and private covering over half an acre. It also has numerous specimen trees including one of the finest copper beach trees in Wiltshire.
The walled garden can be privately hired for your wedding, party or event.
A marquee will be positioned in the beautiful garden (your choice of style) and we can accommodate up to 150 guests. For smaller numbers a reduced sized marquee is available.
The on-site caterer is the award-winning Vanilla Catering & Events. Vanilla’s key ethics are attention to customer service and the use of top quality local ingredients. These result in bright, modern food styles presented with attention to detail in an unfussy yet friendly manner. A bespoke menu is created for each client and a complimentary wedding planner is provided to run your special day.
An interesting fact: did you know why we are we called The Wardrobe? The original building on the site was constructed in 1254. It was rebuilt in the 15th century and was used to store the robes of the Bishop of Salisbury; hence it was known as the “Bishop’s Wardrobe” or “The Wardrobe”!

IN OTHER NEWS FROM WHATLEY MANOR...
Whatley Manor is a five-star country house hotel located in the Cotswolds that prides itself on its beautiful gardens and sustainable horticulture as well as its locally sourced Michelin-star cuisine. The hotel is inviting guests to switch off and absorb the green haven during their visit.
Located near Malmesbury in the charming Cotswolds. The hotel is situated in 12 acres of beautifully kept grounds, organised into 12 individually designed garden rooms, including an abundant kitchen garden which provides for the Michelin-starred restaurant, The Dining Room.
Based on the original 1920s plans of the grounds, the gardens were designed by renowned British architect, Septimus Warwick, who favoured the Arts and Crafts style. Today, the hotel’s custodians have a passion for ecological horticulture and make a special effort to restore the gardens as closely as possible to their origins. Highlights include an elegant and tranquil walled Rose Garden, which envelopes guests in a scent as vibrant as the colourful flowers, and the tropical-inspired Hot Garden with shades of vibrant red and burnt orange. The Stable Courtyard’s neatly manicured lawn proudly displays three bronze donkeys, sculptured by renowned
European sculptor Edouard-Marcel Sandoz, the hotel owner’s great-grandfather.
Whatley Manor’s outstanding reputation for sustainability is truly reflected in its gardens, such as the no-dig kitchen garden, reducing how much the soil is broken in between crops to avoid soil erosion and reduce emissions and weeds, resulting in a higher yield of quality crops, fewer pests and subsequent elimination of artificial pesticides.
The importance of the gardens is felt throughout each guest’s stay at Whatley Manor, from the unmissable 12-course tasting menu in The Dining Room to the Sothys Seasonal Garden Spa Experience at Aquarias Spa, a 1-hour 45-minute treatment consisting of a full-body massage and facial incorporating home-grown ingredients.
Guests hoping to explore even more greenery can visit Westonbirt, The National Arboretum which is only a half-hour drive away from Whatley Manor and bares one of the world’s most beautiful and significant plant collections.
Rates start from £379 per night including breakfast and use of the spa. To book, visit www.whatleymanor.com

Richard (Rich) Harmer and Tim Seears married on 21st May 2022 at Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire.

Timand Rich are both from London and unknowingly lived one road away from each other for years before coincidentally moving to Australia around the same time. “We first met in Sydney in 2018 when a mutual friend, Mandeep, thought we would get along and asked if we’d like to be introduced,” Tim tells us. “Rich agreed to come on a weekend away to Avalon Beach with me, Mandeep and a couple of friends so this was the first time that we met. I was the designated driver and offered to pick Rich up. He later told me that as soon as he got into the car and saw me, he thought that I was handsome!” Rich adds, “The first evening during our trip away, I told Tim that I was taking him

on a date and not taking no for an answer! His response was ‘yes’ so we went to a painting class together later that same week, and the rest, as they say, is history.”
After looking at engagement rings together a few months earlier, Tim proposed to Rich nine months into their relationship at the Henrietta Hotel in Covent Garden, London when they were back in the UK to attend a family wedding. “The proposal took place just as I was waking up from a jet-lagged sleep!” Rich tells us, “I thought that Tim was acting a bit strange on the flight when I tried to put a book inside his bag but he wouldn’t let him anywhere near itlittle did I know that the ring was inside!”

SETTING THE SCENE
Berkeley Castle was the first (and last) venue that the couple viewed. “We just knew the moment that we stepped into the Great Hall that it would be the fairytale backdrop to our special day,” they tell us. “It’s steeped in history, full of beautiful artefacts and boasts ancient stained-glass windows. Berkeley Castle has it all – while being grand and impressive, it still felt intimate and able to host a fun celebration. A big part of our decision to book the venue was the amazing wedding planner and manager, Pippa, who was lovely and put us at ease from the moment we first reached out - nothing was too much trouble and she made executing the perfect day look easy.”
Rich and Tim chose to walk up the driveway to the venue handin-hand instead of being driven, as a symbol of equality, and care for the environment. “During our ceremony, the registrar got our names the wrong way round just as we were saying our vows and then quickly realised her mistake, which amused our loved ones!” they tell us. “It helped with our nerves, that’s for sure! The ceremony felt magical, there was a deep feeling of love from everybody who attended supporting and celebrating our relationship - neither of us have ever felt anything like it before. The coming together of our family and friends from across the world after the separation of lockdown was also extremely emotional and satisfying.”
The wedding enjoyed a pastel colour theme. The table plan and table names were made using frosted-glass signage with white hand-drawn script lettering which provided a contemporary twist in the traditional setting. “Our place names were written on rusticstyle textured white card using an elegant font in black ink,” the couple describe. “We also placed a printed menu complete with wine pairings at each place setting, using the same elegant font. We named the tables after our top twelve favourite places from our travels together around the world.”
For their flowers, the couple wanted an emphasis on sustainability over traditional floristry and the theme of bringing the outdoor forest inside the castle. “We had potted trees lining the ceremony aisle and down the sides of the dining hall mixed with ferns, wildflowers, and plenty of candles in glass lanterns which gave the Great Hall a magical, fairytale feel,” they tell us. “For our centrepieces, we wanted a rustic and country-inspired look, so, together with our florist and design team, we came up with a bespoke look consisting of wooden round tables, mix-and-match cut glassware, gold cutlery and small bohemian vases filled with pretty bunches of wildflower varieties from England and Australia. These were complemented by potted succulents which can be reused, rather than traditional large statement centrepieces, and allowed our guests to be able to chat over the low-level displays.”
Rich and Tim’s cake featured Australian native flowers and King Protea all made from sugar paste. “It was a five-tier showstopper with grey marble frosting,” they tell us. “The flavours were chocolate ganache, white chocolate and raspberry.”
LOOKING THE PART
Rich and Tim wore matching silk-trimmed tuxedos from Giorgio Armani formalwear with Tim in black and Rich in navy. These were complemented by classic black patent leather Armani shoes, white wing collar dress shirts and bow ties, plus a pair of Tiffany & Co. cufflinks each which were a wedding gift from Rich’s dad. “Instead of having bridesmaids and groomsmen, we had a wedding party each, consisting of a best woman and two best men each, and we allowed the two wedding parties to wear outfits of their choosing,” they tell us.
TIME TO ENTERTAIN
Throughout their ceremony, drinks reception, and wedding breakfast, the couple had a live string quartet playing, firstly in the upper gallery at the top of the Great Hall and then in the pavilion by the lily pond

during the drinks reception. “They were phenomenal,” they tell us. “They played a mix of modern instrumental songs re-arranged for a string quartet performance. For the evening party, we had an 11-piece live band perform who were brilliant – our guests said they felt they were at a live concert rather than a wedding and one year on from our special day, our loved ones are still talking about how good the band were! The two male and one female vocalist were up on the tables at one point performing, and at other times out on the floor among the crowd, and the dancefloor was packed all night. We couldn’t have imagined more fun if we tried! After the live band, we had a DJ.”
Rich and Tim also had a photo booth equipped with costumes and props set up in a retro caravan in the castle’s courtyard. Their guests were able to leave copies of their Polaroid snaps in the guestbook along with a message for the newlyweds. “Everybody said they loved the photo booth because it allowed them to take home a keepsake from the day,” the couple says. “We also had a reproduction classic American food truck in the courtyard serving Mexican food throughout the evening disco, provided by our wedding caterers Napier Catering.”

Ellie and Alex’s traditional marquee celebration enjoyed a wild and whimsical theme with touches of gold and neutral colours
Images courtesy of Chloe Ely Photography
Ellie and Alex met in a gym in Cheltenham when he was her trainer. “I fancied Ellie from the start but it took four years for her to notice my flirtatious signals!” Alex tells us. “I invited her to be my plus one at a wedding and the rest, as they say, is history.” The couple became engaged in October 2021 during a surprise proposal in Falmouth. “Alex took me to the cliff path at Gylly Beach to watch the sunset and got down on one knee,” Ellie tells us. “We got a round of applause from the ramblers!”
Here, Ellie tells us all about their marquee wedding reception held at Fairford Cricket Club in Gloucestershire that enjoyed a romantic, whimsical theme decorated with neutral and gold-coloured touches.
Ellie (Eleanor) Mainwaring and Alex (Alexander) Mullins married on 28th April 2023 at St Mary’s Church Fairford followed by a marquee reception at Fairford Cricket Club.

I work in events so I always wanted my wedding to be bespoke and a marquee wedding reception was the perfect opportunity to create this. We chose to pitch our marquee on the lawn of the local Fairford Cricket Club located just a stone’s throw from the church.
“I planned a surprise brass band to appear from the church congregation to accompany our final hymn, Bring Me Sunshine. They led our guests in a traffic-stopping street procession from the church to the marquee, with local villagers looking on!” - Ellie
Our hexagonal-shaped acrylic place names featured hand-written calligraphy in white and our guests took these away with them as favours. They were placed alongside pearl napkin rings which tied in with the embellishment on my wedding dress.
I walked down the aisle to Craig Armstrong’s Portuguese Love Theme from the film Love Actually – it felt as though it were just the two of us in the church.
Seeing each other’s faces at the end of the aisle was a wonderful moment for us both.
The church was also within walking distance of my parent’s home where our bridal party enjoyed getting ready on the morning of the wedding.
St Mary’s Church Fairford is my family church so it was a natural choice for me to get married in.
We opted for long tables for our feasting-style wedding breakfast.
28
To have grazing platters which created a fantastic social atmosphere, we kept our table decorations to a minimum. We chose individual bud glasses with tall gold candlesticks and a cream table runner for each one.
We presented our table plan on sailboards which created a feature inside the marquee. Our table names were after memorable locations to us as a couple. They included Gylly Beach where we became engaged.
Our florist, Hollie created our dream floral arrangements, She invited my mum and me to join her at the flower market to pick the varieties that we wanted in the arrangements. These included the stunning mink roses that we had in the bouquets.
The final dress that I chose was everything that I said I didn’t want. It had sleeves, a full skirt and a fully covered bodice. I had my heart set on a slinky, figure- hugging gown but when I tried on some of these styles, I felt underwhelmed by them.
The dramatic floral displays were outstanding. They included a wild foliage arch adorning the doorway to the church and a wildflower meadow placed at the altar.
Carina, the owner of Carina B Couture located in Bradford-on-Avon chose the dress styles for me to try on after I had been recommended to visit the boutique. She took into account the vision for the day, my body shape, my likes and dislikes and my character and personality.
The minute I saw my Sassi Halford gown, I was smitten!
The flower installations had exactly the impact that we wanted – they were the first thing that some of our guests commented on.
We kept our cake simple and chose a three-tier design decorated with white icing tied with a bow in the shades of our colour theme. We served it for dessert and the three delicious flavours were summer raspberry and white chocolate; carrot cake, and decadent double chocolate.
“Using ADDO Events meant that things ran seamlessly. The team’s attention to detail and their creativity was invaluable.”Ellie and Alex

REAL WEDDINGS 29
Top tip: “Prioritize your wedding photography and videography which allows you both to relive the memories long after the tables are cleared.” - Ellie and Alex
My dress was perfect for the church service with sleeves that could be removed, giving a relaxed feel for the marquee reception.
I teamed my gown with a veil, a pair of pearl-encrusted shoes, some pearl earrings and a pearly hair comb.
Alex and his groomsmen all wore traditional navy tails with double-breasted waistcoats and neutralcoloured pocket squares and ties.
Our bridesmaids wore oyster-coloured satin halterneck dresses with a low back and an oversized bow. They were cinched at the waist to create an hourglass shape. I gifted my bridesmaids a pair of pearl drop earrings each and they also wore flat jewelled pumps – Alex and I being the same height meant that it was flat shoes all round!
We gifted all of our groomsmen a pair of bumblebee cufflinks, which they wore on the day - we had a bumblebee icon featured in lots of our décor too.
We had a Motown soul band called The AlleyCatz perform during our reception.
We had some singing waiters entertain our guests during the wedding breakfast.

and Nick first met in 2012. “We had similar friendship circles so our paths crossed regularly on nights out,” Bonnie tells us. “We were friends to begin with although Nick now informs me that he had always fancied me but had never had the nerve to act upon it! As time went by, we didn’t see each other for years. Fast forward to 2020, just before the lockdown, I started going to the gym that Nick owns in Devizes. We were both single and started to message one another, which quickly blossomed into something much more.”
Nick proposed during a romantic night away that he had planned. “We stayed in a lovely chalet with a hot tub in Glastonbury,” Bonnie tells us. “I still chuckle when I think back to my friend asking me whether I thought he would propose and my response being ‘no’. So it came as a big surprise when were relaxing in the hot tub and he announced that he had an early birthday gift for me, it was perfect.”

beautiful grounds and woodlands with animals roaming freely in, so it was an easy choice for us,” Bonnie says. “Nick arrived at our ceremony in a brand new black Audi Q5 and the room where it took place looked stunning, with two large blossom trees placed at either side of the registry table. Our ceremony was lovely and it felt great to be marrying my best friend.” Nick adds, “It was amazing watching Bonnie walk down the aisle knowing that she was to become my wife. It was wonderful seeing all our friends and family enjoying what was such a fantastic day.”
The talented team at Bowood catered for the couple. “On the menu was caramelised red onion and goat’s cheese tart for starters followed by a fillet of beef with traditional vegetables and a red wine jus,” Bonnie says. “To finish, everybody tucked into sticky toffee pudding and we also had a three-tier black and white cake with the flavours being lemon drizzle, salted caramel and white chocolate and raspberry.”
The couple had large silver candelabras as their centrepieces teamed with acrylic laser-cut place names and numbers on each table instead of names. “Our favours were personalised sunglasses which our guests loved, and gin shots accompanied by a ‘thank you’ card,” Bonnie says. “The room looked fantastic with ceiling drapes decorated with fairylights and large light-up LOVE letters and our fabulous black and white flowers which reflected our black tie theme finished it beautifully.

TIME TO CELEBRATE
Bonnie and Nick hired an events company to help organise and run the entire day. “We played a game of Mr & Mrs plus we had a photo booth that went down so well with our guests,” they tell us. “The pictures were great to look back on. BLOOMING LOVELY
What sustainable options are available for our big-day flowers?
Meet the expert: Silvina Martinez Yañez is the founder of The Glam Bijoux creating unique, hand-crafted wedding pieces using clay flowers. Silvina says: Clay wedding flowers make a great alternative to fresh ones because they’re durable, lightweight, and can be customized to match any wedding theme. They can also be crafted in advance, which allows for better planning and organization leading up to the big day.
Clay flowers do not require any special care or maintenance, making them a stress-free option for busy brides. Another advantage is that clay flowers are not dependent on seasonal availability meaning that you can pick any flower variety you like, regardless of the time of year.
My designs that feature realistic flowers made from clay include necklaces, bouquets, centrepieces and place card holders. Not only are they fab floral finds for weddings, but they also make great gifts!

EXPERT ADVICE
PLANNED TO PERFECTION
Should we book a wedding planner?
Meet the expert: Harriet Havelin is the business owner and lead planner at VanHeil Events, a Cotswold-based wedding planning service for celebrations in Wiltshire, the Cotswolds and throughout Berkshire, Hampshire and Oxford.
Harriet tells us: The benefits of hiring a wedding planner are that somebody who is not emotionally involved in your day can support you both during the planning process. They will use their extensive knowledge and experience of what works – and more importantly – what doesn’t, to help tailor your wedding so that it flows seamlessly. On the day itself, your chosen wedding planner will look after every detail and ensure that you and your guests have the most memorable experience. If anything doesn’t go quite to plan (which happens sometimes) then they’ll fix it before anybody notices. By having a planner in the background overseeing your special day, you can relax and enjoy every second, without worrying if

THE PERFECT FIT
RoC Skincare has been revolutionising skincare for more than 60 years boasting a legacy of firsts from the first SPF sunscreen proactively preventing signs of ageing, to being the first to discover a method for stabilising retinol. Today, it’s able to offer bespoke prescriptions based on your specific skin type and concerns across several ranges.
I recently tried the Hydrate + Plump collection, formulated with hyaluronic acid. The highlight for me was the Eye Cream (£24.99) designed to visibly lift, smooth and awaken eyes. With a cooling gel-like formula, its doesn’t leave behind a sticky residue, sits perfectly beneath make-up and has visibly smoothed the skin around my eyes while improving the look of my dreaded dark circles. Discover the right products for you at https://rocskincare.co.uk
NO FILTER
The love for no make-up make-up shows no signs of abating, with TikTok tutorials on the subject gaining 868 million video views. We’re all looking for those minimal, multi-purpose everyday make-up items that enhance the skin to give maximum impact with minimal product, and it’s a notion that’s also made it’s way into the world of bridal beauty.

GET THE LOOK
Meet the expert: Emma Beavers is the founder of Makeup by Emma based in Wiltshire who created the dreamy look for our Fly Away With Me photo shoot on page 49. Here, she explains how to achieve this look.
Emma says: I based this make-up look on the hairstyle which was vintage in style with an elevated modern twist. When creating it, I wanted to keep the skin light with a fresh glow so I applied the Vitamin Enriched Face Base by www.bobbibrown.co.uk, which is a moisturiser with a built-in primer packed with vitamins B, C and E. This was followed by the Sheer Glow Foundation from www.narscosmetics.co.uk to achieve a glowing finish.
The key to this look was that all of the products used on the face (except for the eyes) were either liquid or cream-based products. On the cheeks, I used the Face Trace contour stick by www.westman-atelier.com to define the cheekbones followed by the Beauty Light Wand in Pinkgasm Sunset by www.charlottetilbury.com
For model Hannah’s eyes, I applied eye shadow shades from Charlotte Tilbury’s Luxury Palette Pillow Talk, concentrating on the earthy, darker pink tone on the socket and blending it up high to the brow bone which closes the gap between the eye and the eyebrow. Although I wanted to achieve a defined eye, I wanted it softened so rather than using black or brown eyeliner, I used Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk Eyeliner which is a berry-brown shade. I applied this across the upper lash line and, using a soft brush, lightly smudged any harsh lines away. To finish off the eyes, I used a few coats of Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes Mascara in the same shade as the eyeliner, berry-brown.
To finish the lips, I used the Enhance and Define Lip Pencil in the shade Petal and the Luxuriously Lucent Lip Colour in Rose Official both from www.lisaeldridge.com. Because no powder was used, I spritzed the All Nighter Setting Spray from www.urbandecay.co.uk to finish the look.

A TRIAL RUN
Meet the expert: Juliet Draper is a hair and make-up artist covering weddings in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and throughout the Cotswolds.
Should I book a hair and make-up trial?
Juliet says: I often get asked whether a trial is necessary and the simple answer is yes. A trial is very important because it allows you to work through different looks with your stylist and find one that you are completely comfortable and confident with ahead of the big day. It also allows you to get to know your stylist and raise any concerns you may have with them.
Before your trial, start to gather images of the hair and makeup looks that you love. If you’re not quite sure what styles would suit you, having something to show your stylist will help them to suggest alternative ideas and work with you on finding the right look. Hair and make-up trials are also fun and give you a chance to enjoy much-needed pamper time!

Being Sophie
Sophie Stonehouse on body positivity, self-love and flawless skin
Social media sensation Sophie Stonehouse, is perhaps best known for her appearance on the fourth series of Netflix’s reality dating show, Too Hot To Handle. Hailing from Brighton, she was the only British cast member and made her mark as the group of risqué singletons were put to the test of abstinence in order to keep their prize money high and stay in with a chance of winning it. Since leaving the villa, she has dedicated her time to producing fashion and style content for her social media followers, now numbering in their hundreds of thousands. Lesser known however are her struggles with body dysmorphia and her fight to achieve body positivity. Being the centre of attention on their wedding day, isn’t every couple’s dream with issues such as Sophie’s becoming more prevalent, and importantly more commonly discussed. So, CWM’s beauty and wellness editor, Kelly Andrews, caught up with Sophie to find out how she overcame these personal challenges, as well as discovering her top health and wellbeing tips.
What will you take away from your time on Too Hot To Handle?
The experience really taught me about self-love and respect. It also taught me that the most incredible experiences in life, happen when you least expect it. I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to go on the show.
What have you been up to since you left the show?
I’ve completely transformed my career to become a full-time content creator. It’s a job I’ve always wanted to do. It’s definitely not an easy one, but it’s very fulfilling. I’ve also found a new relationship since leaving the show, and I’m very happy.
You seem very at home in your own body. How did you find this confidence?
Body confidence is something I’ve definitely struggled with, and I’m definitely a victim of body dysmorphia. But, I found the confidence to be at home in my own body, when I realised that I was never truly going to be happy with it. I noticed that I was always finding something to complain about whether I was overweight or underweight. Once I learned to accept myself, only then did I truly feel at home.
Are you able to tell us a bit about your battle with body dysmorphia and coming out the other side?
I’ve suffered badly with it over the past couple years. Since being

a young adult, my weight has fluctuated year after year, and when I turned 18, I put on quite a bit. Then, as the first Covid lockdown hit I fell in love with fitness and completely transformed my life and body. However, that did come with its own disadvantages. I became obsessed with it all and would really get down on myself when I didn’t work out or eat right. Ultimately though, it taught me that no matter where I am with my body, I’m always going to want to change something whether I’m in perfect shape or not. I feel that now I have a happy balance and have accepted myself the way I am. I know that I want to look good, but I also want to enjoy my fried chicken burger, fries and a gallon of mayo without feeling bad!
How do you want to encourage and inspire women to discover their own self-love?
I think it’s important to remember that no one really cares. That’s what I learnt after suffering with pretty bad acne. I thought everyone was looking at me and the reality was that they just weren’t. As soon as you start putting yourself outside of your comfort zone, your confidence will grow. Another big one: don’t be mean to yourself, give yourself a break.
Wedding dress shopping can be a stressful time for those with worries about certain aspects of their body. What should they be looking for to feel more confident on the big day?
I think it’s so important to leave any expectations at the door. Go into the shopping experience with an open mind and a clean canvas. I’d be looking for something I feel comfortable and myself in. I think it’s important to remember that most people aren’t completely happy with themselves, and that’s okay. Go with what feels right and remember: on the day you really won’t care about the little things.
For many, their wedding day is the first time a couple will find themselves the centre of attention with all eyes on them. Some may find this uncomfortable, particularly if they’re feeling self conscious about their body. What advice would you have for them?
As long as you’ve made the day enjoyable for yourself as well as your guests, you’ll get lost in the experience. I think a lot of couples get caught up in making the experience great for their guests, but forget about their own wants and needs. I think it’s important to have fun with the
whole thing, don’t do anything or wear anything that makes you feel uncomfortable or not yourself. This is your day to shine. If you don’t like wearing a high heel and it isn’t for you, then don’t! Make the day perfect for you and throw on those trainers.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My typical day at the moment starts with a dog walk and a coffee. I live next to a canal, so I walk my dog there every morning. I then get back and make myself some breakfast and start my working day. After work I’ll try to walk him again before heading home to make dinner and relax. At this point in my life, it’s all about career and I’m happy with that.
Your skin is flawless! Tell us about your daily skincare routine. Surprisingly I don’t do a lot! I have very sensitive skin, so I like to keep it minimal. My go-to everyday skincare routine consists of my Garnier Micellar Water on a cotton pad, which I use to clean my face and remove all make-up. I follow that with Simple’s Replenishing Rich Moisturiser and Eye Cream. It’s really just that simple… less is more!
Are there any products you’d recommend to a nearlywed looking to get their skin in top condition for the big day?
I’d highly recommend GlamGlow’s face masks. They’re incredible and will help to get your skin looking perfect for the big day. For those suffering with acne, my top tip is: stop touching your face! I’m a picker and once I stopped it went away, very quickly.
What make-up products can’t you live without?
Cream contours and eyebrow gel!
What’s next for Sophie Stonehouse?
At the moment I’m working towards growing my platform. We have some exciting things in the pipeline for this year so you’ll just have to wait and see!

Groomed Mobile Barbers have seen a rise in bookings for home haircuts and beard trims for weddings. Able to set up anywhere, Groomed Mobile Barbers bring with them everything needed to ensure your hair is styled, beard is trimmed and shave is perfectly smooth.
Owner Giuliano Dore tells us: “In many cultures, the bride gathers with her bridesmaids to have her make-up and hair done just before the wedding, but in the past, men simply queued at their local barber shop waiting for their turn. Now, everyone wants to have memorable photos, look their best and make more of the morning preparations. I advise grooms-to-be to consult with a barber about the style that they want before the wedding. A dramatic change may not be the most sensible thing to do just before you say your vows. Have a restyle a month or two before so that your wedding cut is just a tidy up and there are no shocks on the day.”

Dressed TO IMPRESS
The team at Colour Me Beautiful share their fashion advice for the groom-to-be
Choosing the right outfit for your special day will come down to a variety of factors: the style of wedding you’re having, the venue, the time of year and, of course, what your partner is wearing. To help you find the perfect look, we’ve asked Cliff Bashforth, the MD of Colour Me Beautiful, to share his top styling tips:
CHOOSING A STYLE
There are different styles of formal attire available for men, some of which are more traditional than others.
Morning dress: This is the most formal suit worn during the day and works well for all body shapes and sizes.
Tuxedo: A formal look typically used for evening receptions, tuxedos can be either single or double-breasted, and for a less formal look you have the option of adding a coloured tie and waistcoat or cummerbund.
Frock coat: A popular addition to the wedding scene, the frock coat can be made from luxury fabrics such as brocade or velvet. It’s best suited for average to tall, inverted triangle and rectangle body shapes, but can be worn with a waistcoat.
Lounge suit: This is a relaxed formal wear and is suitable for any time of day. If you aren’t used to wearing a suit during the day, this might be the most comfortable option. Choose fabrics carefully: a crisper fabric for an inverted triangle, lightweight for a rectangle and a softer, woven fabric such as lightweight flannel for a round body shape.
Alternatives: If a uniform is part of your life, you may want to wear a formal version of it for your wedding. The same applies if you have traditional dress, religious or otherwise. For an informal wedding, you may want to wear a lounge suit, with or without a tie.
HIRING
Don’t hesitate to hire the men’s attire, but make sure that you have tried your suit on in advance
and that the sleeve lengths are correct, and the trousers fit properly.
Whether you want the best man, fathers, and ushers to wear the same as the groom is entirely a personal choice. However, the best man usually wears the same style of suit as the groom. What the other men in the bridal party wear often depends on the formality of the wedding. If you choose to have a page boy or ring bearer, make sure that he’s comfortable in what he wears to avoid any last-minute tantrums.
ACCESSORIES
The way the men in the bridal party wear the various accessories that complete their outfit is important, and you will want to make sure they get it right. This is where you can co-ordinate or contrast colours and demonstrate some of your personality.
Shirts, ties, and cufflinks: The choice of shirt will depend on the neckwear. For example, a tie requires a standard shirt and collar, a self-tie cravat can be worn with a standard or wing collar, a cravat needs a wing collar to go with it and if you’ve decided to go for a bow tie, team it with a standard or wing collar. Whatever the type of neckwear, it should be made from silk so it falls well.
Cufflinks are only worn with a shirt that has double fold back cuffs. Beware of choosing jokey inappropriate cufflinks for a formal wedding.
Waistcoats: You can choose a waistcoat in the same colour as your jacket or a contrasting one. Consider wearing something different from the rest of the men to help you stand out and make your own fashion statement. As with any waistcoat, always leave the lowest button open.
Cummerbunds, belts and braces: A cummerbund can be worn with a black tie or tuxedo and is great for tidying up the waistline and disguising a rounded stomach.
A cummerbund should always be teamed with a bow tie, and you can have fun choosing suitable colours for both.
If the suit trousers have loops, these call for a belt (and certainly no braces), but if these are unable to be altered to fit for the occasion and there are no belt loops, braces will be needed. Under no circumstances should these be worn together!
Shoes and socks: Black shoes should be highly polished and not scuffed; black patent can be worn with black tie. Make sure any labels on the soles are removed before wearing them.
Socks should be worn in plain, dark colours and made from wool, cotton, or silk. Avoid man-made fibres to prevent discomfort. They should be long enough to cover your lower calf.
Boutonnière or buttonholes: A boutonnière is a small flower arrangement placed in the buttonhole. Your boutonnière should match the flowers or colours used throughout the rest of the wedding.
Boutonnières for the rest of the men in the wedding party should be the same style or colour as yours, but not exactly the same in other respects. Double check that the stem of the boutonnière is securely pinned to the lapel.
GROOMING
Make sure you’ve booked a haircut for the photographs. If you have heavy brows, they should be controlled – you may need to get your tweezers out! It goes without saying that shaving or beard trimming must be attended to at the appropriate time prior to the ceremony. Your hands will also be on display on the day, so treat yourself to a manicure the day before the wedding or do it yourself if you have the time.

Conrad Maldives Rangali Island boasts the nation’s first underground wine cellar, first below sea level bedroom in The Muraka (with the first underwater elevator in the Maldives!), first dedicated cheese bar and the first to open an authentic Chinese restaurant in the Maldives, Ufaa – to name a few of its innovations. It’s only right to be the first destination to experience as a married couple. Goosebumps, right?
A ROOM WITH A VIEW
I was fortunate to stay in one of the sunset water villas complete with a private plunge infinity pool allowing you to watch the sky turn from the brightest blue to blazon orange with a glass of bubbles in hand. Utter indulgence. If staying over the water is not your thing, the opposing side of the island offers fabulously chic beach villas with private pool just steps away from the turquoise waters that you’ve only ever seen on postcards.
UNDERWATER LIFE
Maldives offers worldclass snorkelling and diving opportunities. On the Rangali Island’s house reef, I was lucky enough to spot a manta ray, baby black fin sharks, who have kept to the shallows to learn to feed and grow, parrot fish, turtles, reef sharks and shoals of colourful fish imitating a scene

Rachel Westall experienced five-star, desert island luxury at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island
from Finding Nemo! If this isn’t enough, the resort offers an excellent range of water sports and boasts a PADI 5* dive centre. I was lucky enough to enjoy a champagne sunset cruise where we viewed joyful spinner dolphins playing gleefully in the waves; as well as our search for the magnificent whale shark which, like us, enjoys bathing in these warm, tropical waters.
indulged in a 90-minute session entitled Mindful Bliss. Watching the fish beneath through the glass-bottomed treatment room, my therapist began the ritual to restore harmony and balance. She started with the most fabulous back massage, followed by a mini facial using clear quartz crystal wands and finished with the entrancing effect of fragrant coconut oil being gently poured on my forehead and hairline (often known as your Third-Eye Chakra). My hair has never felt so nourished following this invigorating hair and scalp massage.
A FOODIES’ PARADISE
Foodies are in for a treat with 12 restaurants to sample. Wake up to room service or enjoy breakfast at Vilu, the à la carte establishment offering dishes from smashed avocado with sourdough to eggs benedict to sensational pancakes for those with a sweet tooth, or head over to the very relaxed Atoll Market, the resort’s only buffet restaurant. Here you can sample many international cuisines, everything from sushi to freshlymade omelettes and help yourself to a smoothie pressed-to-order or a fruit platter from the cold room.
Another first, dine below deck at fine-dining restaurant, Ithaa. Here, I was lucky enough to enjoy a set menu which consisted of silky dill-infused salmon, foie gras torchon, and miso and truffle marinated black cod fillet, all beautifully paired with a sensational Sauvignon Blanc – all this whilst watching reef sharks gliding past the surrounding glass walls. As well as these choices, there’s Ufaa by Jereme Leung, where you can sample handmade noodles and dim sum; and the island’s health restaurant, Mandhoo – expect freshly caught seafood, lobster and fragrant flavours aplenty.
FEEL-GOOD TRAVEL
Eco-conscious travel is all the rage and Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is certainly getting involved in the promise to go green. You’d be hard pushed to find a single-use plastic in the resort as bamboo options (even your key card) are being introduced at every opportunity. Furthermore, and I was so excited to be a part of this, in 2017 the resort launched a coral regeneration programme, which aims to protect the surrounding reefs. With a complex eco-system and more than 10,000 species in the Maldives, the programme includes a coral nursery and a coral adoption programme for guests to partake in. The super-friendly dive team and I took to the waters to replant baby coral to flourish in their new home and hopefully thrive and grow. In six months’ time they’ll update me on my coral’s progress! Watch this space...
TRUE ROMANCE
It’s safe to say the staff at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island will do everything to make your stay one to remember whether you’d like to experience private dining beneath the stars on your veranda listening to the sea lap around your stilted accommodation; or a private beach dinner, just you, your love and the powder white sand beneath your feet. For total relaxation, a visit to one of the island’s two spas is a must. I

HONEYMOON REVIEW 83
HAVEN A Celtic
Peace and tranquillity awaits honeymooners at Galgorm in Northern Ireland
WhileNorthern Ireland might not be the first place you think of when planning a mini-moon, having spent two nights at the incredible Galgorm Resort near Ballymena, CWM deputy managing editor Kelly Andrews is here to change that!
Northern Ireland’s premier luxury hotel and spa, located just 30 minutes from Belfast, offers the ultimate haven of relaxation. Set within 380 acres of parkland with the sometimes rushing, sometimes babbling River Maine running through it, Galgorm’s enviable location truly provides an escape from the real world.
A SPOT OF R&R
The jewel in Galgorm’s crown is the Thermal Spa Village, which I’d go so far as to say is unique, as I can honestly say I’ve never encountered its like. So vast is it that you need a map to orientate yourself! It’s fortunate indeed then that it has it’s own app containing just that, plus all the info you could possibly need during your stay. My accommodation was a mere two-minute walk to the entrance, so I was up bright and early, donned the robe and flip flops provided, and was off to investigate. Despite the flight from Stansted the previous day being one of the most stressful in recent memory, I could already feel the tension melt away as I strolled alongside the River nodding a cheerful, “good morning,” to fellow guests as I went.
If your experience of a spa is a pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and a sauna, maybe a hot tub if you’re really lucky, you’ll be swept off your feet by the Thermal Village! Mainly based in the open air it features a Wonderland of treats to explore and experience around every corner. I happened upon the Riverside Garden first; home to outdoor pools, hot tubs, The Salt Cave, a cafe and the Celtic Sauna. In some of the Resort’s packages you’ll receive a complementary 10-minute Celtic Sauna Infusion here, which was the case with my shepherd’s hut accommodation. So naturally, I wasted no time!
We were shown into the sauna by our sauna master, where I was pleasantly surprised to find a floor-to-ceiling window along one side acting as a frame for the stunning, tranquil landscape beyond. It occurred to me that what this place does so well is allow nature to do its thing in providing all the beauty and relaxation anyone could wish for. The landscape is part of the experience, not just a mere sideline, but I digress...
This treatment is a traditional Aufghuss ceremony consisting of three balls of ice being thrown onto hot coals, each one containing essential oils to benefit the body in a different way (breathing, circulation and skin) with each temperature more intense than the last. The air was circulated by the sauna master who used a towel to push the aromas towards us in the mesmerising, dance-like movements characteristic of the ceremony. As Celtic music played softly in the background, it was easy to drift away. When the ritual was over, we were escorted to the firepit area, where we were served a cool and refreshing watermelon punch to bring the body temperature back down.
As I continued my explorations, I came across The Walled Garden and couldn’t resist stopping for a cocktail in The Palm House, where I was able to recline and take in the views of the beautifully manicured gardens. Soon though, it was time for my private Riverside Bathing Experience. From reception, charming host Kenneth showed me the way to Birch, my very own secluded hot tub for the hour. The water is heated by log burner to 39 degrees, and the comforting smell of the wood burning only adds to the experience. A glass of prosecco waited for me and I was able to order more drinks using the QR code provided, which would be served tubside. All of my senses were engaged as I listened to the calming music and the sounds of the flowing river, sipped on my prosecco, enjoyed the smell of the wood smoke, and felt the warm water relax my muscles – this was the life!
The Thermal Village is actually open until 9pm, but by 6pm it was

time for me to reluctantly head back to the hut to get ready for dinner. I procrastinated all the way though, stopping en route for one last visit to my beloved River House (with its infared beds and views of the cascading River), a hot chocolate enjoyed on the riverside boardwalk, and a spell in The Alpine Garden’s vitality pool.
HEARTY FARE
The foodies amongst you will be equally as delighted by Galgorm as the spa aficionados since there are no fewer than three restaurants to choose from for dinner: Fratelli Ristorante, Gillies Grill and Castle Kitchen + Bar (the latter just a short transfer away). That’s not even counting the other options for afternoon tea in The Conservatory, where you can also find the Cocktail Bar & Gin Library, and McKendry’s, all up at the main house.
This was my first visit to Northern Ireland and I found the people to be some of the friendliest I’ve ever encountered while travelling. We honestly felt like we were among friends, and the staff at Galgorm can’t do enough for their guests. We didn’t have to make the walk from our shepherd’s hut to Gillies Grill once as we simply dialled reception and a short while later a thoroughly charming member of staff would be there to collect us, which was most appreciated, particularly when it rained.
Gillies Grill is reportedly a favourite amongst guests and locals alike, and it’s not difficult to see why. With a warm informal atmosphere, and hunting lodge vibes, it offers a menu sure to delight any palate. Interestingly, the menus for all of the eateries at the Resort are accessed via QR code, so you can peruse at leisure on your phone. No doubt developed during the pandemic, it helps to keep everyone safe, but is also kind to the environment cutting down on paper.
I opted for the barbecue pork bites, followed by the braised brisket of beef for main, finished off with a selection of delicious Irish cheeses. After thanking our super-sweet and helpful server, we made our way through to the adjoining McKendry’s. With a traditional Irish pub vibe, it’s also the Resort’s exclusive whiskey bar, offering an impressive collection of 300plus varieties from more than 21 countries. Here, we happily let our dinner go down while sipping on another cocktail and listening to the live music.
When it comes to culinary highlights, for me, it was breakfast. I’ll admit to being like a kid in a sweetshop! The spread was a joyous sight to behold with everything you could possibly dream of for the most important meal of the day from muffins and pastries; fish, cold meats and cheeses; cereals and fruit; to pancakes, full Irish breakfast, waffles and toast. Self control was most definitely needed!
HOME AWAY FROM HOME
Opened as a bed and breakfast more than 30 years ago, Galgorm has grown into the immense site it is today with 125 luxurious guestrooms, including 48 deluxe rooms, Junior and Signature suites, along with a range of more out-of-the-ordinary accommodation such as log cabins, cottage suites, shepherd’s huts and exclusive residences perfect for groups. But it hasn’t stopped there as it’s still growing with works currently underway and more in the pipeline. Even as I visited, work on a group of two storey cottages was nearing completion and land was about to be cleared for the new treehouse accommodation.
I was happily ensconced in one of the Resort’s shepherd’s huts during my stay. Welcomed by an electric woodburner cosily heating this home away from home, we quickly discovered all the comforts we could wish for were provided. I was obsessed with the huge outdoor copper bath, which I made a dive for as soon as I’d dumped my bags. The complimentary G&T and bath bomb, were much appreciated additions following the aforementioned airport hell.
For honeymooners though, there are two particular showstoppers that I would highly recommend! If you’re looking for ultimate luxury, Suite 1857 can be found in the original manor house and offers unrivalled views of the River from its Juliet balcony. Elegant and romantic, its rooms are decorated in brocade wall coverings in a muted palette, antique lighting, and French Baroque-style furniture, with solid oak floors and beams. It features a lounge area with sofa and two arm chairs for curling up in front of the TV, plus bathroom with free-standing bath and walk-in shower.
If a secluded, rustic, woodland escape is more your vibe the Shepherd’s Hut Suite is the place for you. Nestled in Galgorm Wood with the cascading River running alongside it, it’s luxuriously appointed with a lounge, mini kitchen, and bathroom with shower room and free-standing bath. But the stand-out features, without doubt, are your very own sauna and hot tub on the terrace. Enjoy a soak in the warm waters as you watch the sun set and raise a glass to yourselves, the newlyweds.

HONEYMOON REVIEW 85
Do not disturb
Olivia Gibson ventures to Staffordshire for a spa minimoon at Moddershall Oaks
Nestled in 72 acres of tranquil parkland in the Staffordshire countryside, Moddershall Oaks Country Spa Retreat is a luxurious property with lavish suites, spa facilities, lakeside dining and a wellness centre. The retreat offers a private location surrounded by unspoilt views of the rolling countryside, setting the perfect scene for romantic minimoons and getaways.
I felt a calming oasis as soon as I ventured onto Moddershall Oaks’ winding driveway. With the sun beaming down on me, I quickly left the outside world behind. The next thing I knew, I was enjoying an elderflower spritz while chatting to the attentive and friendly staff who were on hand throughout my entire stay.
REST YOUR HEAD
With only 10 suites on-site, I was excited to see my accommodation, and I wasn’t disappointed when I entered the modern space. Complete with air-conditioning, a seating area with plush furnishings, a private terrace, a smart TV, a desk, and a stylish bathroom with a rainfall shower; it had all the amenities needed for a tranquil stay.
All overnight guests can book a private 30-minute session in the outdoor hot tub. I went for a late night dip, so I could enjoy the sun setting and view the beautiful stars. The water was the perfect temperature, with water jets and warm lighting to add to the oh-so-romantic atmosphere.
When it was time to rest my head, I quickly entered dreamland thanks to the comfortable king-sized bed and fluffy pillows.
THE ULTIMATE SPA SESSION
Moddershall Oaks is more than just a spa; it’s a tranquil setting to enjoy quality time with loved ones. In the heart of the property, couples will find an outdoor heated vitality pool to enjoy year-round regardless of the weather. Surrounding the pool are comfortable loungers, providing the ideal location to read a book and enjoy a bite from the spa deli. I loved the views of the rolling countryside from the Kelo sauna and the calming setting in the intimate relaxation lounge with comfy sofas and blankets to
snuggle up.
The indoor spa area was my favourite space, with a hydrotherapy pool plus two overhead water jets designed to massage the upper back and neck muscles, while helping to promote blood circulation. Some of my personal highlights included the steam room, the 10-meter pool, the foot baths, heated loungers and the experience shower.
I was lucky enough to experience an Indian-inspired head massage during my stay. The talented beauty therapist used the latest massaging techniques to help tackle the problem areas in my upper back, shoulders, neck, face and scalp. As someone who struggles with tension headaches, I didn’t realise how much I needed the treatment. For 25 minutes, my problems melted away while I focused on the relaxing music and the calming aromas.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
As a massive food lover, I couldn’t wait to enjoy a two-course meal at The Oak House Restaurant after hearing great things about the menu. Spoiler alert, I wasn’t disappointed! Using local produce and fresh seasonal ingredients, where possible, the talented chefs created a feast. For my starter, I went with the lemongrass chicken bao buns with apple and cucumber salad and a spiced honey dressing. I opted for the beerbattered haddock fillet for my main, with skin-on triple-cooked chips, homemade tartare sauce and pea puree – the flavours were exquisite.
Wrapped in my fluffy robe, I returned to the restaurant for breakfast the following morning – the perfect way to start the day. I enjoyed a continental breakfast followed by avocado on toasted sourdough and a poached egg before walking around the lake and relaxing in the hammocks. I was sad to be checking out of this wonderful resort and can’t wait to return soon.
