Berry’s Jewellers double win
The UK awards, organised by watch industry title WatchPro, was a spectacular gala dinner in Central London. Covering every aspect of the watch sector, from business and brand, to retailers, this year’s awards recognised the successes within the industry across an array of different categories. Berry’s Jewellers won Family-Owned Watch Retailer of The Year and Retail Leadership Team of the year (Simon Oxby & Simon Walton). These latest accolades follow several notable industry awards wins over the course of the year for the familyowned business which is currently celebrating its 125th anniversary year.
Simon Walton, Managing Director of Berry’s, commented on the win, “We’re delighted to celebrate our 125th anniversary alongside the WatchPro Awards 2022. Receiving these awards demonstrates the hard work that the family and our incredible team at Berry’s has put into the business. We also thank our customers for being the main driver of our success - we truly appreciate them all.”
It’s been a great year for Berry’s Jewellers, after also winning Watch Retailer of the Year accolade, and Retailer of the Year (six stores or more) in the UK Jewellery Awards 2022, where Berry’s was praised by the expert judging panel for great in-store service, a thriving website, and a robust product selection, scoring a 92 per cent mystery shop score.
Berry’s boasts boutiques across the nation, including York, Leeds, Newcastle, Hull, Nottingham and Windsor. For more information, please visit the website: www.berrysjewellers.co.uk

Global success for Titanic Spa
CHARLOTTE ELIZABETH PHOTOGRAPHY SCOOPS THE WIN!
The North of England Wedding Awards recognise businesses in the wedding industry which go the extra mile for their customers, providing outstanding service and inspiring their customers to want to actively and positively promote them. Each year, hundreds of companies enter into the awards. Votes are submitted in their thousands. From these votes finalists are created, and the winners are normally announced at York Racecourse. This year, Charlotte Elizabeth Photography scooped Best Photographer. Here, Charlotte tells us more about the night...
“This year I can say that I’m a North of England Wedding Award winner in the Yorkshire Photographer category. There were so many amazing photographers in the running this year, it was a complete shock when my name was called out on the night. I’ve entered a few different wedding awards over the years, but this one is my favourite. It’s free to enter – the only cost involved is going to the awards evening (which is optional) – and it’s fair. The judges take into account the comments written by couples as well as the scores given, which means that if all the photographers entered shoot a different amount of weddings, we all have an equal chance of winning.”

Titanic Spa celebrates receiving its fourth global award in the 2022 World luxury Spa Awards as it’s presented with the prestigious global ‘Luxury Eco Spa’ title. The West Yorkshire based spa has once again flown the flag for England and is the only UK property to win a global award. Receiving a World Luxury Spa Award is known as the pinnacle achievement in the luxury spa and wellness industry and over 300 people flew in from around the world to attend the glitzy awards ceremony hosted in Turkey. The award serves recognition of sustained commitment to service excellence and outstanding achievement, and winners are selected by public vote, providing true recognition that reflects the hard work and dedication of the winning spas.
Set within a restored textile mill nestled in Linthwaite Valley, Titanic Spa continually sets new heights for the spa industry by incorporating sustainable technologies and practices into its business. With developments year on year to exceed customer demands, Titanic Spa provides unparalleled treatments by advanced professionals in an eco-friendly environment.
Warrick Burton, Director of Titanic Spa comments, “We’re thrilled to be able to add a fourth global award to our portfolio with the ‘Luxury Eco Spa’ award in this year’s WLSA. We’re proud to be the leading eco spa not only in the UK but in the world. We take sustainability seriously and we are committed to providing a relaxing environment and expansive spa space that doesn’t compromise when it comes to sustainable practices. We truly value our customers and guests, and we thank them for voting”.

BIJOU BRIDAL WINS BIG!
TWIA is the regional and national client-voted awards in the UK wedding industry. It was established in 2011 to recognise and reward excellence in the UK wedding industry and to help anyone organising a wedding to find the best suppliers. This year’s event was held at The Fed in Gateshead Newcastle - and what a night it was!
Kerensa Dyson tells us more about the night and her boutique’s big win! “It was a night of celebrating with wonderful bridal industry buddies from the best in bridal, from bridal boutiques to florists, make-up artists, barn venues and so much more. You could hear a pin drop when the ceremony began and everyone was on tenterhooks waiting for their name to be read out! The Bridal Retailer category was the very first award to be given and a Highly Commended Award was awarded to another regional finalist and then the winner was announced - Bijou Bridal Boutique! At this point I burst into tears and gave my husband a huge hug and kiss before heading up to the stage to receive my award, getting congratulated by everyone in the room on the way up! I was a blithering wreck by the time I got up to hug Damian, the organiser of The Wedding Industry Awards, but it was so worth it. I cannot thank my incredible #bijoubrides enough for taking the time to vote for me - without you none of this would have been possible, so thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

AUTHENTIC, CREATIVE & EMOTIONAL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY FOR COUPLES WHO VALUE REAL
A white wedding
Fluffy white snowflakes fell from the clouds at Hornington Manor on Sophie and Elliot Cole’s perfect day Images courtesy of The Fitzpatricks
Sophie and Elliot met via Match dating site. The couple laughs that it’s an ongoing joke that Elliot paid more for Sophie – as Sophie had a discount code for the site! What a bargain! Sophie adds, “We met relatively early on in our subscription, so we did have to have the conversation about whether or not we needed to renew!” As luck had it, the stars were aligned for these two teaching professionals and now, they have their six weeks summer holidays to spend together!
Elliot proposed to Sophie on 25th August 2020, on the shore of Loch Ness in Scotland. “Scotland has been a favourite holiday destination for both us and our families when we were growing up. Sophie explains. “Elliot proposed with my grandmother’s ring which made it even more special. The whole event was a surprise and we celebrated by drinking champagne and going out for a meal, most of which was spent in silence as we were in shock! We went back to our holiday cottage to drink more champagne and play scrabble (which is where the scrabble theme for the wedding came from).
The pair said their I do’s at Hornington Manor on 19th February 2022. Here, the Cole’s tell us more about their day…
29 REAL WEDDINGS
We were able to have the venue for the whole weekend which meant our guests were able to have a holiday themselves and we were able to spend time with everyone. Jo, the events coordinator was a huge selling point by being so warm, welcoming and relaxed – she made us feel like the place really was ours.
We
My wedding dress was called Welrose by Ronald Joyce. I loved the sparkly detail in the straps and the low back. I also loved that it had pockets in which I was able to keep my personalised vows and a tissue for all the tears!
I was so excited! After I had had my hair and make-up done, I cried as I felt really overwhelmed.
Memories to last a lifetime...
Elliot wore a navy suit by Herbie Frog. This was accessorised with a Liberty print tie and pocket square. The best men wore the same pink tie as the groomsmen but with a matching pocket square to Elliot.
The ceremony was our favourite part. One of the readings was a personalised poem written by our friends from our running club and we hadn’t heard it before, it was so lovely.
were attracted to Hornington Manor because we were given free rein to do what we wanted to it including choice of suppliers and decorations.
30
Prior to, during the ceremony and for the drinks reception, guests were entertained by Champagne Strings, the string quartet that Sophie is usually a part of (although someone else stepped in for Sophie on the day!).
We still say now that we’ve never felt so loved as we did in the lead up to and on that day. We were overwhelmed by this and wish we could do it all over again.
The night before the wedding, Storm Eunice hit! It knocked down a tree onto a house and there was a power cut to the whole venue. We were due to have a party (which we continued to have) but it was all done in candlelight, which looking back now was very special, at the time we were a bit panicky!
Elliot remembers, “Whilst waiting for the bride to enter (and Sophie was speaking to the registrar) the heavens opened and it started snowing. The flakes of snow were massive and it was the most beautiful sight, so we really did have a white wedding! Sophie is known to love snow, so it made it all the more special.”
My dress was accessorised with the most beautiful floor length veil with sparkles which glistened in the lighting at the venue.
31 REAL WEDDINGS
The cake topper was handmade by Sophie.
THE COLE’S TOP TIP!
Enjoy it! Take a step back through the day and look at all the people that are there because they love you. It really is the best day ever!
Tables were named after breweries. Elliot is a massive craft beer fan and this was reflected in our wedding. In addition to this, we provided a beer from a local craft brewery and the money from this went to Mencap and a charity close to the groom’s family.
The flowers were white and pink roses with the addition of freesias to my bouquet as they were my grandmother’s favourites.
Favours were drinks tokens and a scratch card, as we liked being able to offer all of our guests, day and evening, a welcome drink. No-one won the big bucks on the scratch card though - as far as we’re aware!
We chose Homegrown Hospitality as our caterers as we wanted proper, homemade food which would fill our guests up. Sophie’s favourite food is pie, so it was a perfect choice for a winter’s day.
On all the photos you can see how happy I am, and it wasn’t put on, I spent the whole evening dancing and saying, “I’ve had the best day of my whole entire life.”
In the evening we were entertained by the most incredible band, Kudos who guests are still talking about now.

Joshua and Charlotte Bell married at Carlton Towers with so many surprises along the way to wow guests Images courtesy of Eternity Photo
Joshua and Charlotte met in the crazy world of social media.
Fastforward to 2020, two months pregnant with their baby girl, Myla, Joshua popped the question. An easy reply, Charlotte said, yes! It was love at first sight with their chosen venue, Carlton Towers. Driving past for the first time, they stopped the car and called the venue to schedule a viewing. Charlotte remembers, “On the day of our visit, we got up early, went for breakfast, then set off for our appointment. The view on the trail to the house was breathtaking. We walked up the stone stairs and through the massive entrance doors that opened into the most spectacular place we’ve ever set foot in. We call it fate the day we accidentally drove past Carlton Towers. This was the most perfect venue that we could wish to say ‘I do’ in.”
On 16th April 2022, the pair tied the knot in their fairytale wedding. Here, the happy couple tell us more about their day...
SETTING THE SCENE
Setting the tone of the day, both the bride and groom certainly arrived in style. As Charlotte explains, “Josh arrived in a helicopter, and I trotted down the driveway with our girls and my dad in an ivory open-roofed carriage accompanied by two spectacularly dressed, immaculate white horses. These entrances were a lovely surprise for our guests who were all relaxing on the lawns outside when Josh arrived.”
Sophia from Sophia’s Final Touch really helped to make all the details a perfect match of elegant and rustic. The chairs were all dressed with classic white chiffon drapes with a sprig of eucalyptus placed in the back of each chair. The aisle was lined with floating candles and chapel candles and thousands of fresh white rose petals along a huge white carpet. Charlotte adds, “To frame us both we had two 10ft canopy blossom trees to make it picture perfect! For the evening, we added giant rustic light up Love letters and had a projector which projected our names onto the dancefloor.”
As the couple weren’t fans of cake, they decided to go with a seven-tier pork pie and cheese cake by the West Country Cheese Company. This was delivered the day before the wedding and kept fresh by Carlton Towers.

DRESSED TO IMPRESS
Charlote bought her dress from Limelight Occasions in Huddersfield. With a view to try on plenty of dresses in multiple boutiques, this wasn’t the case as she quickly found ‘the one’. Charlotte swoons, “The boutique was full of everything a bride to be could ever dream of! Needleless to say I didn’t just find ‘the dress’ I also found ‘the suits’ - and the most perfect eucalyptus coloured dresses for our older girls.”
TIME TO CELEBRATE
The tables were impeccably decorated with crystal candelabras. Wedding stylist, Sophia, added gypsophila, ruscus, eucalyptus and English roses to create a classical and elegant touch.
The couple chose mini heart-shaped shortbread biscuits which were in keeping with the wedding décor. There were two designs: a miniature version of Charlotte’s wedding dress, and a miniature version of Joshua’s suit!
MEMORABLE MOMENTS
Charlotte adds, “the day went so fast! I’d married my best friend in front of all of the people we love the most, the food was five-star quality, and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Everything was beyond anything I’d ever dreamed of a young girl.” As the photographs confirm, the day was picture perfect. Congratulations!

Alessandro and Ryan Merchant-Russo tied the knot at the Principal Hotel, York
Al and Ryan met on Tinder in late 2014, before meeting in person on Valentine’s Day 2015. The couple got engaged on their anniversary in 2017, in front of Edinburgh Castle. What made it particularly special is that the castle gets lit up pink at night. Hilariously, Al had aimed to propose the night before but, of course, they didn’t light the castle due to it being Earth Day. Typical! As the saying goes, good things happen to those who wait... and the following night Ryan said, yes! Here, the newlyweds tell us more about their day...
41 REAL WEDDINGS
“We both love York, and it was the first and only venue we visited in the city.”
“We both instantly fell in love with the venue, the atmosphere, the grand staircase, the impressive oak room and the unrivalled garden were all massive selling points.”
“We chose yellow and white roses with some blue forget me nots and foliage.”
Both grooms had special cufflinks. Al’s were personalised with their initials and Ryan’s were love heart shaped pride flags. The couple also wore Pride flag badges on their suits to symbolise the importance of the day and the rights they’ve fought for.
42
White rose buttonholes for the grooms completed the look.
“Our tableplan was printed by the venue and placed on a mirror just outside the room.”
“Our three-tier white cake had white and yellow roses running up the middle and light blue ribbon around the base of each tier.”
REAL WEDDINGS 43
“The speeches were emotional and spoke about the importance of equality and the difference it has made to our lives. They were a definite highlight for everyone.”
As a half Italian wedding there was lots of classic clinking of the glasses signalling you need to kiss.
The kid’s activity packs were a hit with the younger guests!
DJ York was behind the decks to ensure everyone was on their feet. The dancefloor played host to several dance battles and terrible Dad dancing which continued long into the night.
“Our photographer went above and beyond and even cried during Ryan’s speech which she confessed has never happened before!”

DAYDREAM Terracotta
The idea behind this shoot was to offer inspiration to couples, giving them confidence to add their own boho style to their venue, adding colour to their day while being authentic to bohemian roots.

This styled shoot, organised by Faye at Aphelion Events and Gemma Suckley was inspired by the early evening sunset, when winter transitions to spring. Deep hues of rust, pink and terracotta saturate the sky as the night draws in, creating a magical golden warmth that sinks into the horizon.

Little Hummingbird Events is a small but neat, South Yorkshire based wedding and events company with a BIG heart and a talent for organisation. Not only do they plan Artisan & Makers Markets and events around Yorkshire they are known for planning and pulling together outstanding weddings!
Operating all over the UK and Europe, Nicola and her team have worked with some amazing venues and continue to do so whilst helping engaged couples plan the biggest, often the most important day of their lives.
“Planning your big day can be daunting, expensive and stressful for lots of couples – many who have never done it before – so this is where I come in” says Nicola, owner of Little Hummingbird.
Stress can play a big part in the day and because you plough so much money, thought, time and effort into the day, you should really enjoy it and have amazing memories to cherish.
From the initial consultation, Nicola will walk you through the “how to and how not to” plan your big day. With as much or as little help as you need, she will become your Wedding Planning Fairy Godmother, putting into place all
of those things you want but have no idea where to start. From stationery and wedding attire, to accessories, gifting, transport, venue dressing, themes and much much more, she will guide you all the way. Some people have Nicola on speed dial for 2-3 years before the day, others preferring to have her assistance to simply run the day and ensure all goes as it should.
Being in the industry as long as she has, her experience and opportunity to work with wedding industry suppliers all over the UK means that they have a collection of trusted wedding professionals to hand. And this is how Nicola ensures your day goes without hitch. In fact, even if there was a hitch, you would never know about it! Piecing together your day with meticulous organisational skills and working to your strict instructions and themes, you will have the day you both dream of without a doubt. Even
your family get access to her skills, entirely complimentary of course! She believes the tiny details are just as important as the big ones, from colour coding, to seating, bathroom baskets to old and new traditions, Nicola will advise you on all.
Whether you’re after a carefree day in the sunshine with friends and family inside a tipi, or a more sophisticated formal affair at church or special venue, quite simply anything goes! And distance does not play an issue either.
The main reason for starting this company many years ago (formerly known as You Said Yes) was to save couples time and money. Nicola says, “The wedding industry is worth millions of pounds and often people don’t have limitless pockets full of money to splurge, so every penny of their budget must be used wisely and stretched as far as it can.”

When do I search for my venue
The sooner the better. Most venues get booked up sometimes years in advance. The wedding venue is the heart of the occasion - the pillar that all other planning works around. So, when planning a wedding, the venue should be the first choice. Once you have your date in the diary, you can begin to figure out a timeline for the rest of the wedding organisation.
When do I book?
Some wedding venues are very popular and will be booked up years in advance, whereas others are more flexible. Once you have narrowed down your preferences, you can give each one a call and see what their anticipated timeframes are. You also need to leave yourself enough time to plan the wedding - most couples find 12 months sufficient. A clever hack here is to find a venue that also provides other services so that these are automatically ticked off your checklist. For example, at High Trenhouse, you get full catering, a wedding coordinator and accommodation as part of the package.
What questions should I be asking my venue before booking?
The most pressing matter will be the number of guests they can fit into the venue. If you want a huge wedding with hundreds of attendees, a small intimate venue isn’t going to be the best choice. It’s also good to ask what’s included in the price, as some venues (such as High Trenhouse) will add extra services into the package deal. You should also ask the venue about special features they can offer that set them apart from other venues - such as spa access, overnight accommodation, outdoor space and any other hidden gems. Don’t forget to also ask about logistics. How many people can park there? Where are the nearest hotels? What about public transport access? Disability access? Are dogs allowed? Make sure you have all these smaller details covered too.
How do I make my venue feel me?
A great wedding venue is one that can be customised to suit the couple getting married. Choosing a venue with an on-site wedding coordinator is a great idea because they know the venue inside out and can change and adapt it according to your theme and couple style. Versatile venues with indoor and outdoor spaces are brilliant. It also helps if the owner of the venue has a passion and interest in weddings. At High Trenhouse, the owner Stuart is a professional celebrant and so he lives and breathes wedding ceremonies and celebrations. A personal touch like this can go a long way in making a wedding special.
Let’s talk wedding suppliers
The list could go on forever when considering wedding suppliers. Think about how the day would run, from morning to night, and what you’d need at each stage. For example, in the morning you’d need hair and make-up for the bridal party, transport to the location, clear instructions for guests on where they are going. For the ceremony you’d need a celebrant, florist, photographer, rings, music and any other ceremonial / ritualistic items. For the reception you’d need food, drinks, music such as a band or DJ, space for dancing and socialising, wedding favours, and at night you might need overnight accommodation. The trick here is to find a venue that can offer quite a few of these services in the venue price, so that they’re automatically sorted for you. A wedding coordinator will also have all the local contacts to help get you the things you need.
Top Tip!
Consider having an outdoor wedding at a beautiful, scenic wedding venue. Outdoor weddings automatically give you beautiful wedding photographs without having to set up any decor or flowers. This saves you money and gives the photographer natural lighting and the best chance of capturing your ceremony. Outdoor weddings also allow you to bring more guests without worrying about the indoor seating capacity and allow you to play around with ceremony location too (for example, you may want to marry next to a beautiful pond, or under a large oak tree, or with a view of the Yorkshire Dales).

When do I search for my photographer?
It’s never too early to start looking for your wedding photographer, but it’s usually best to wait until you have a date set to get in touch. Without knowing your wedding date, photographers can’t check their availability. Before you have a date it’s a good idea to start looking at a range of photographers to see what style you like. Social media accounts are usually the best way to see the most up to date images while websites will give you some more in-depth information on their style and approach.
When do I book?
As with any supplier, as soon as you know you want them, book! Whether it’s photography, cakes, DJ or stationery, most suppliers can only do one wedding per day and we get bookings years in advance. While suppliers may have last minute availability, if your date is booked there’s nothing we can do.
What questions should I be asking? Most couples ask ‘how much’ - but it’s important to know what’s included in each package. Some photographers include eight hours in their full day package with the option to add extra hours, some include 12 hours and others don’t have a time limit at all. You also need to ask about any additional items you may want such as wedding albums, prints, USBs etc. Finally, ask to see some of their most recent work, including full weddings. You need to know that your photographer can capture your full day in a professional and consistent way - not just the odd photograph.
Top Tip! Meet your photographer in person. They’ll be with you all day, so you need to make sure you get along. Your photographs hold your memories, so when you look back at them you shouldn’t really remember your photographer being there at all, just the moment.

After you’ve chosen your dress, shoes, veil and other accessories you’ll have a pretty good idea of what style and look you’re going for. When it then comes to hair and make-up, I’d always recommend not swaying too far away from a look that you feel comfortable with. You’ll likely be wearing a little more make-up than you would usually but ultimately you have to feel inside as beautiful as you’ll look on the outside. You still want to look like yourself just the best version!
I’d book your makeup and/or hair stylist as soon as you can and have your wedding date set. We take bookings up to two years in advance, sometimes more, so to ensure you book with your preferred stylist and they have your date available booking early is always advisable. In terms of your trial, we’d recommend two to three months prior, if possible. Since Covid-19 this has occasionally put additional time pressures on this timescale, but we always manage.
Firstly, to avoid your skin breaking out just before your wedding day
I always advise my brides to keep the same skin routine for up to a month ahead of their wedding date, don’t book a facial too close to your wedding (I’d say stay clear of the last two to three weeks prior), drink plenty of water and stay hydrated (this also helps preventing your lips from cracking). If you do happen to break out, don’t squeeze or break the skin. Use tea tree oil on the end of a cotton bud as often as you can to dry the spot out. Keep your face clean and moisturised and don’t stress, this will only make it worse!
Nails... always have a trial run, especially if you’re going to use a new technician or try out extensions. I love a classic French with perhaps a little shimmer or sparkle for a bridal look and I’d have this as close to your wedding day as you can, so they’re looking their best!
My top tip would be to invest in a good (if possible, a professional) skincare routine at least six months prior to your wedding day. This will ensure your skin and complexion is glowing for your special day. Finally, lipstick; your artist will likely have a selection but finding your own colour will make sure you have the exact colour, shade and finish that you want for your day.

When to book
Our couples usually book a year in advance, but our booking calendar is open three years in advance. We get lots of enquires and bookings, so we recommend getting your date secured as soon as your sure you love our work.
Why book
If a picture tells a thousand words, then wow how many words can a film tell. Years down the line our couples send us messages to say they’ve watched their film again with their loved ones and re lived their beautiful day and it makes our hearts sing. One of the things we hear most when we’re filming weddings, is their guest telling us their biggest regret is not filming theirs. Don’t let this be you.
What to expect from a videographer
A great relationship with our couples is so important to us, we want them
How to choose styles for your flowergirl!
Firstly, select your style! The full skirt is largely the most popular choice. A miniature version of the bride! Give her the kind of dress she can twirl around in and we’re sure she’ll be overjoyed.
Your chosen colour
Right now, the most popular colour for flower girls is ivory, often paired with a brilliant splash of colour such as blush, navy or pale sage green. The other most popular colours are navy, champagne and full pastel colours like blush, sage and pale blue. To personalise your look, we LOVE the idea of a personalised denim jacket which can be twinned with older bridesmaids, the bride or anyone in the bridal party. Our denim jackets are hand embellished to order and a great keepsake to have after the event.
Knowing your necklines
If possible, choose a leotard or dress with straps and a reasonably high neckline. Not only will this be more comfortable for your flower girl, but it’ll prevent any embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions on your big day!
www.craydenweddingphotography.co.uk
to feel relaxed around us on the day. We’re experienced, having worked in film and TV for over 20 years and we want our couples to feel they’re in safe hands. It often helps that we’re both female as we film at the most intimate part of the day, the preparations.
There are two of us on every shoot, we film your ceremony and speeches from multiple angles making the edit seamless. We use industry standard kit, and we know how to use it in any situation, our couples are asking for drone options, and we hold a license so we can capture the day perfectly.
Planning your film might sound obvious, but we take care to meet our couples and go through their day. We’ll do site visits, speak to your suppliers, check flight paths for drone options and so much more. We speak to our couples about the style and music so we can make sure your film reflects your day and your personalities.
Visit: www.JJweddingsltd.com
Accessories and gifting Flowergirls don’t often need to have accessories, but we offer a little a girls accessories collection which is perfect for saying, thank you for being my flowergirl, or if they want to style-up their evening party outfit - from rainbow bags to glittery hair slides. We also have jewellery for older bridesmaids and brides which comes gift boxed.
For brides, we have a luxury pearl bag which is great for holding personal items on your big day or a stunning bag for your honeymoon!
Out top tip!
Go one size up. Because flowergirls are usually quite young, there’s likely to be some growth between the time that you pick the dress and the wedding day, but don’t worry! Order a size or two up from what she’s currently wearing (depending on your timings and the age of your little one), and you’ll be fine.

SANYUKTA SHRESTHA
Sanyukta (seen here on the red carpet with her daughter, Ameya at the recent world premiere of Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio) is one of the UK’s leading sustainable wedding dress designers with a conscience being among the first to introduce sustainability to the bridal industry with the launch of her bridal collection in 2011. In 2022 came her Ready to Wed 2022 collection of ethical, vegan wedding dresses. Each one was handmade by highly skilled artisans in Nepal from hand-spun and hand-loomed 100% Fairtrade bamboo; 100% organic cotton; TENCEL (which is a luxe floaty vegan eco-fibre made from the cellulose of wood pulp which is 100% biodegradable and compostable) and also recycled fibres. Her Iconic Bridal collection (pictured) which captures the mood of the 1930s is also made from these organic materials, and her Zero Waste philosophy strongly influenced it. One of the Nepalese-born designer’s bridal creations is preserved in the Fashion Museum, Bath. A London College of Fashion graduate, Sanyukta’s evening wear has been worn by celebrities including Victoria’s Secret supermodel Candice Swanepoel; classically trained soprano Natalie Coyle and English actress and singer Amy Nuttall to name a few. www.sanyuktashrestha.com
GRACE LOVES LACE
Grace Loves Lace has launched its Memoirs Of Her collection for 2023 of eight stunning made-to-order and ready-to-wear gowns priced between £1,200 and £2,500 plus two intricately embroidered veils. It features silhouettes made with a new 100% recycled eco lace, exclusive to the Australian based-brand which is committed to ethical and sustainable manufacturing with all gowns made in Australia. Founder and creative director Megan Ziems tells us, “There’s plenty of skill that goes into making a dress look effortless, each gown in this collection is an ode to craft and creativity - we have challenged ourselves and our in-house artisans to create pieces that will move you. This level of detail, softened by flowing fabrics, texture and effortless silhouettes strikes a unique balance. These gowns are true works of art.”
Always pushing boundaries, the brand has launched the first-ever wedding dress using lycra swimsuit material to hug and shape the body. Megan adds, “We wanted to introduce a completely unpredictable fabric in this collection that makes a statement. The Zsa Zsa dress is hand-crafted from beautiful and highly visual stretch lycra. Think of a dress that makes you feel supported all over, creates the most beautiful curves and accents the body. For the fun and adventurous bride, you can even swim in it at the end of the night.”
The Memoirs Of Her collection will also be the brand’s first dive into the Metaverse, with 10 brides-to-be to receive an exclusive NFT gift with their gown purchase. Megan said it was the perfect opportunity to introduce something new to the bridal market. “We have always been early adopters in the industry, so introducing NFTs as a gift with purchase is our way of starting to immerse ourselves in the Metaverse, where we can already see highly respected fashion brands investing in.” She adds, “We wanted to explore this idea of taking something old and breathing new life into it, which is how the NFT idea came about. I knew this was the collection to pair traditional heritage art forms, like poetry and calligraphy, with modern keepsakes like NFTs.” https://graceloveslace.co.uk

VERA WANG BRIDE
Vera Wang Bride, the high fashion, luxury brand that forms part of Pronovias Group which is on track to reach its goal of a 40% sustainability component in all its dresses by 2025, launches its new collection for 2023. From charming, reworked classical silhouettes to edgier fashion-forward statements, these 54 dresses and accessories all have the hallmarks of Vera Wang’s fashion language.
Hi-lo and bustled skirts, clean bandeau tops and deconstructed ball gowns mixed with debutante design details such as belted ties with lace peplums are some of the highlights along with corseted bustiers with see-through panels and cross-your-heart drapes are modest, but also put a deliberate focus on the décolleté.
Style directions in the new collection see experimental silhouettes including modern bridal shapes such as skirt and crop-top two pieces, pantsuits, and sensual dresses. Lustrous fabrics include new Duchesse, mikado, and taffeta fabrics that are softer and silkier than ever and embedded in crystals and pearls. Playful design details such as lace peplums, cross-your-heart bodices, and mini bows create a certain sense of modesty while also highlighting the décolleté with artisan-made accessories playing a prominent role. From detachable peasant sleeves and opera gloves to Elizabethan-style ruffled collars and bibs, these new add-ons allow brides to transform even the most minimal styles. “What I tried to do this time is create accessories that can personalize your wedding dress when and how you want,” clarifies Wang. She adds, “Women right now are reconsidering what bridal means,” referring to the current mood for unorthodox looks and ‘secondary’ bridal dresses for the wedding celebration. “I think we’ve done everything possible to create a wide range of looks with this collection, which I hope will appeal to so many different brides everywhere.”
In line with the Pronovias Group’s inclusivity policy that applies to all the brands in its portfolio, all the Vera Wang Bride 2023 dresses are available in a range of sizes from 32 to 64 (from 0 to 32).

Bo & Luca couture gowns are made, hand-beaded and hand-dyed in their Indian-based atelier. Using an ancient Indian technique known as Tambour, each bead is carefully hand-sewn onto the finest silk by local master craftsmen and women over a three to six-month process. The entire journey celebrates the feminine and carefree romanticism which only the delicate hand-beading, embroidery, and hand-dyeing can emulate. Incorporating this age-old technique into each design produces a finer, more intricate, and higher quality result than machine beading, which is a more favoured method in modern garment manufacturing.
Bo & Luca encourages handmade creations and intertwines this value into each gown created under their diffusion brand, Temple. Whilst many Temple gowns are created in their Indian ateliers, the recent partnership with their European atelier has allowed them to diversify their offering into commercially viable gowns which appeal to their bohemian-loving brides with a reduced budget. Temple allows inclusivity and ensures that more brides can make the dream of being a Bo & Luca bride a reality. www.boandluca.com
ANDREA HAWKES
British bridal designer Andrea Hawkes has introduced her Amaryllis 2023 collection named after the flower which stands the tallest of all winter blooms and symbolises pride, strength and determination which has been Andrea’s creative inspiration. She tells us, “I designed Amaryllis as a celebratory collection, each look has a unique element that will allow our brides to truly express who they are. We have seen so much strength and determination in our brides over the last couple of years; it only seemed right to design a collection that will make them feel proud when walking down the aisle. It’s all about confidence and enabling each bride to sparkle and shine bright whilst enjoying their special day surrounded by their loved ones. Amaryllis is a celebration of individuality.”
Cut from the highest quality natural silks, Andrea’s collections are made in London by her in-house team. Featuring 12 dresses and two tops in light to heavy-weight silks, Amaryllis showcases Andrea’s signature clean cut and minimalist aesthetic with a focus on fit and shape to create both natural and sweeping silhouettes for the modern bride. Contoured corsetry and structured box pleat skirts with hidden pockets feature alongside fluid and split-front dresses. Necklines and back details are square, V-shaped or low, designed to be worn bare or layered with sheer chiffon and georgette silks. Sleeves are either statement blouson, off-the-shoulder, classic long or wide or slim spaghetti straps to perfectly offset the skirt shapes.
Sustainability has always been at the heart of Andrea’s brand ethos working exclusively in natural silks including dress linings. All lace is sourced and produced from French mills with ethical working practices. The London studio enables Andrea to work closely with brides across made-to-measure and bespoke designs and a recently launched post-wedding alteration service offers brides the opportunity to re-purpose their dress by the in-house team creating luxury wardrobe staples that can be re-worn for years to come. www.andreahawkes.co.uk

Having a smaller number of guests doesn’t mean you’ll be missing out on anything; it can actually reduce the pressure and enhance your experience.

TRIED AND TESTED
Over time, our natural hyaluronic acid levels decline, making the appearance of those dreaded lines and wrinkles more pronounced. But RoC’s new Hydrate + Plump Daily Moisturizer comes to the rescue with SPF 30 helping to restore skin’s natural moisture, visibly replumping lines and replenishing hydration. CWM editor Rachel Westall put it to the test.
“As a woman in my 30s, my skin is an area I need to pay attention to, and with RoC endorsed by one of my all-time fave gals, Sarah Jessica Parker, I was already sold! These winter months can be so harsh on your skin so this has been a welcome addition to my morning routine, keeping my face hydrated with a natural glow. It’s superlightweight so it’s easy to apply and leaves no residue behind, only soft smooth skin all day. I can’t wait to try the entire range.” £35.99, https://rocskincare.co.uk

The Utan Pen is the viral TikTok freckle pen that Sophie Habboo and Melissa Tattum are raving about. While many of you may long for a glowy sun-kissed look for your big day, the damage UV rays can cause the skin is something we’re only too aware of. However, the recently-launched Utan Pen makes this goal totally achievable with zero sun damage. AQUA(WO)MAN
The latest fragrance from perfumer Juliet Has A Gun, Ego Straits, is an original aquatic cologne with a refreshing and energising citrus top note cocktail, laying on a long-lasting marine heart. The result is a contemporary, almost unisex, women’s fragrance, an ode to gender fluidity.
The brand’s founder and perfumer Romano Ricci says of the new scent, “It would take me more than a lifetime to explore the complexity of women! Since the beginning I’ve attempted to unravel, layer by layer, the facets of women with a capital W. With this latest opus, I wanted to unite them all. Sometimes femme fatale, sometimes romantic, sometimes boyish, Ego Straits embraces all those contradictions while blurring the lines.”

DEWY & DREAMY
What are the latest colours and hot looks for spring brides?
Spring bridal make-up is going natural, fresh and glowy! Gone are the days of brides requesting heavy contouring and harsh brows - bringing out your natural beauty is in.
The ‘glass skin’ look is perfect if you want a radiant complexion that looks like skin. I like to use Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter paired with Light Wonder foundation to achieve this.
Add a pop of colour with a cream blush such as Bobbi Brown Pot rouge for a sheer healthy flush.
Eyes should be kept soft. A simple sweep of shadow to brighten your eyes then lined with a darker shadow with the edges blended to make your eyes stand out on photos. Finish off with a rosy lip and your perfect spring bridal make-up is complete!

BEAUTIFULLY BOUNCY
What’s your top hair or beauty tip?
My top beauty tip for brides or other bridal hairstylists is to prepare hair with a ‘pin curl’. The pin curl is perfect for brides wanting big and bouncy curls that last all day.
First, I would create the curls with heat, turning my wand or hair straighteners in alternative directions, securing the curl in place to the head with a hair grip and continuing the process until all the hair is in place, spray with a little hairspray and leave to cool before brushing out. The same process is used for the very popular Hollywood wave - only I
would prepare all the curls in the same direction to create a defined wave throughout the hair, as seen on my beautiful bride Saskia.
Alternatively, pin curls work just as well to create volume and height. When the hair is cooled or left to return back to its normal temperature it allows the hair to set into shape making the style last longer.
If you leave the curls down to cool, the weight of the hair can cause the curls to drop and set straighter and flatter to the head.

Our local experts solve your wedding dilemmas
A few of my friends have got married recently and I’m worried my wedding isn’t going to stand out. How can I add something special to my big day? Always stay true to who you are, and your likes and dislikes. Your wedding day is about you both as a couple, so it’s always best to draw on your interests or your relationship for inspiration. Some ideas that can help your wedding stand out could be:
1. Personalised table plan – Table numbers as date milestones throughout your relationship. I’ve seen this at a recent wedding where the couple used the date they first got together, the date of their engagement and the year they moved in together. It also gives your guests something to discuss at the table! Other ideas could be using your favourite films, books or holiday locations.
2. Dessert table – Are you a sweet treat kind of couple? I love the idea of a dessert table instead of a standalone wedding cake. Not only does it provide a variety of treats for your guests, but you don’t have to stick with just cake!
3. Audio guest book – This isn’t your typical guest book. Hearing someone’s voice is something we take for granted. Rather than have your guests write you a message in a book why not get them to leave you a message? As the drinks are flowing throughout the night the messages will probably become more hilarious!

SNAP HAPPY
We want lovely photographs, but we’re limited by our budget. Do you have any suggestions?
I’d say, look at what you really want photographs of? Is it the ceremony itself? Is it friends and family having fun on the dancefloor? Maybe, even having photographs taken of just the couple away from the hustle and bustle of the day? If couples can pin down the most important photographs for them, they may be able to reduce the amount of time, they pay for a photographer.
I also suggest that if couples were in the early stages of planning, maybe look at getting married outside of the peak season. Money can be saved on the venue itself and can be used for a photographer they really want.
Do your research. I know it sounds simple, but it can really make a difference. Photographers can vary a lot on price but also the quality of their work. Ask to see full galleries if they’re not provided on their websites. Shortlist the ones you like, then compare the prices. That might help you narrow down your choice to just a couple. You can then reach out and check if they have availability.

SEASONAL SHADES
My hubby-to-be is having six groomsmen, and we’d like them to wear something suitable for our winter wedding. What colours and styles should we look for?
Winter weddings are a great time to bring in muted floral colours, giving a rustic feel to the wedding theme. Dusky pinks are always a popular colour along with nude tones. This season seems to be more focused on shades of green with sage and pistachio being a favourite lately.
Christmas weddings often lend to forest and bottle greens with hints of red to bring a Christmas feel to the theme.
Tweed accents are favoured especially for the colder months. These mix well with traditional suiting to maintain a less high fashion look, therefore not dating the couples wedding pictures in years to come.
For a larger wedding party, it’s always nice to highlight the groom, allowing him to stand out in some way. Obviously, the bride will stand out and steal the show but it’s great to allow the groom to challenge this too! A great way to do this can be with different neckwear, perhaps introducing an ivory tie or cravat to match his bride and the groomsmen matching the bridesmaid’s colour theme. Alternatively, this could be something simple like a slighty different flower for the buttonhole, or more obvious a different waistcoat.
Whatever the choice, the most important thing is to feel comfortable in your outfit for the big day.

FESTIVAL FUN
I’m feeling overwhelmed by the thought of styling our festival-themed wedding. Do you have any suggestions?
You can break this task down so that it doesn’t become overwhelming. Firstly, think about the most typical and obvious aspects of a festival, and then build on that. Festivals are normally colourful events. There’s always a marquee, which could be central to your wedding and decorated in your preferred colours and styling. There’s always outdoor eating / food, so you might organise a BBQ, picnic or even an ice cream van. Festivals always feature music and entertainment, such as circus performers and bands, and the accommodation is normally a tent or caravan. In terms of outfits, festival dress is normally colourful, hippy-chic and requires some welly boots for those muddy moments! You can always dress up a wedding dress with boho costume jewellery and some outdoor boots to blend right in with the environment. It might also be an idea to keep a marquee for you and your wedding party to retreat to if any costume adjustments are needed. Finally, festivals are fun – so make sure you relax and enjoy the experience.

FROSTING & FOLIAGE
We love flowers and want to incorporate them into our cake design. What do you recommend we look for?
I love flowers too, the brighter the better! There’s lots of ways to include flowers that fit in with the rest of your floral decorations. Your cake maker can work with your florist directly, co-ordinating with them to provide loose flowers for them to arrange and make ‘cake-safe’. Alternatively, your cake maker can source and arrange the flowers themselves. The cake, pictured below, was a real team effort, with beautiful fresh flower arrangements provided by Yvonne Dennis Event Flowers, and co-ordinating pressed petals and leaves provided and arranged by myself. Such a look!
