Ho, ho, ho! I
love this time of year, not only because I’m a magpie who adores anything that sparkles, but because it’s an opportunity for me to create a magazine full of seasonal splendour! This year, I think we’re all looking forward to a special festive period of being reunited with loved ones to eat, drink and be merry now that all restrictions have been lifted. Whether you’re putting the finishing touches to a winter wedding or planning a larger affair for next year, it’s always fun for me to compile our end-of-year issue. I asked some of my favourite wedding cake designers in all three regions to send me their latest bakes which are revealed on page 53. I have also rounded up a selection of some of the best snow-capped venues in both regions that can be seen on page 19. There’s also bridal jewellery and accessories, dream dresses, big-day beauty and hot honeymoon destinations, along with much more, so I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did creating it, and I’ll see you next year. Until then...

TOUREASY LAUNCHES FIRST CHRISTMAS TOUR
A new sustainable tour operator is offering Christmas trips including a two-day break to Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire with its spectacular light display colouring the palace and gardens. Toureasy is the UK’s first and only carbon-neutral coach tour operator with 15 pick-up points available and prices starting from £70 per person. The getaways are designed so that customers can do their bit for the environment without paying a premium or needing to sign up for longterm commitments. Holidaymakers will receive a certificate after each trip confirming the carbon offset made on their behalf and reinforcing the positive impact they have made in combatting the global climate crisis. The founder of Toureasy, Sean Taggart tells us, “We realised that far too often sustainable travel options are linked to luxury holidays, with a price tag to match. Our ambition is to offer affordable holidays where everyone that travels with us automatically makes a positive contribution to protecting our planet. Our holidays make that possible and we are proud to be operating some of our first tours from the South West.” To book, visit www.toureasy.co.uk

EXCLUSIVE COLLECTION HOTEL CHAIN COMMIT TO BEING SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS Privately owned hotel company Exclusive Collection, which includes the Royal Berkshire country house hotel in its portfolio, has announced its certification as a B Corp, the first hotel group in the UK to achieve the certification. Exclusive Collection joins a growing group of companies reinventing business by pursuing purpose, as well as profit. The company has been certified by B Lab, the not-for-profit organisation behind the B Corp movement, as having met rigorous social and environmental standards which represent its commitment to goals outside of shareholder profit. Danny Pecorelli, managing director of Exclusive Collection adds: “It’s been a long but rewarding process to achieve B Corp certification and we’ve learned so much and have so much still to do. We are now embarking on a new chapter for the Collection where we will build on the good that we’ve been doing for the last 40 years and look at how we can do it better. B Corp is a community that we are very proud to be associated with and we too will play our part in helping to educate and spread the word that business success is as much about people and planet as it is about profit.” Kate Sandle, director of programmes and engagement of B Lab UK, says: Welcoming Exclusive Collection is an exciting moment because they have an opportunity to lead the way within the hotel and
hospitality industry. We and the rest of the B Corp community are pleased to support Danny and the team in paving the way for a new way of doing things.” To find out more about weddings at Royal Berkshire, visit www.exclusive.co.uk/royal-berkshire

Becky and Joe Seychell-Lees married on 5th August 2021 at Tythe in Bicester, Oxfordshire.
B
ecky and Joe met at the University of Gloucestershire. “We got to know one another through the rowing club where Joe was a keen rower and I attended the social events with a mutual friend,” Becky tells us. “I was attracted to his muscles, which he loved to show off ! We became a couple and moved in together after finishing university.” Becky and Joe became engaged in October 2019 during a trip to Edinburgh. “We spent the first day exploring the city in the rain,” Becky explains. “Joe was rather grumpy and concerned about the weather. He suddenly changed our plans about which day we should visit the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and Edinburgh Castle. The following day, he was in a much better mood because the sun was shining so we visited the gardens, enjoying a hot chocolate as we wandered around the grounds. Joe suddenly stopped in a quiet area and started telling me how great I was before presenting me with a beautiful ring! It was a wonderful surprise and the most magical proposal.” Here, Becky tells us all about their special day at Tythe in Bicester. 31
rtyard with all of The beautiful gardens and cou acted us both to the venue. their quirky features first attr with a few smaller areas We loved the large open space for our guests to mingle. We were both extremely nervous before the ceremony. I was shaking holding my bouquet until I started walking down the aisle. As soon as I saw Joe, I smiled and relaxed. Looking around the room and seeing so many of our loved ones gathered together made me feel overwhelmingly happy. After the ceremony, both Joe and I had the biggest grins on our faces for the rest of the day!
We had bubbles instead of confetti and becau se it was raining, we took the bubble shot inside whic h was so much fun! The room was filled with them and everyone was smiling and laughing. It was so good that we walked down the aisle three times to get the best photo s and make the most of it!
“We created large boards showcasing photographs and memories of fun times spent with each of our guests. There was a number below each one linking it to a page in our guest book where there was a photograph that they wrote their message next to.” – Becky
We made small jars of honey to give to each guest as favours with a dipper and a personalised label attached. I designed our table plan and printed it myself. Each table name had pictures of us at that age and our centrepieces were jars filled with fabulous floral displays and candles in holders.
Our delicious catering was enjoyed by everyone and received plenty of compliments from our guests! 32
REAL WEDDINGS “Our photographer, Vicky, was amazing! She went above and beyond and so many of our guests commented on how friendly she was. She captured the most beautiful photographs and the candid ones are my favourites. She also made sure that she got to know us and made a point of finding my cat when we were getting ready so she could take photos of her. She also used my childhood teddies in a picture which holds a lot of sentimental value.” – Becky
We created a display using Winnie the Pooh teddies and a sign which read ‘A day without friends is like a pot without a single drop of honey in.’ Growing up, I loved Winnie the Pooh and the past year has shown just how important family and friends are.
I wore a Stella York gown. I wanted I something which was pretty yet simple and chose I back. open the with liked the high neck a crystal and pearl hairpiece and finished my look with a pair of sparkly high heels.
Joe’s groomsmen wore the same suit as him teamed with a grey cravat and both of our fathers wore the same suits but with a grey tie.
Our blue and white marble three-tier cake matched our colour theme. The white top tier was a chocolate fudge cake with salted caramel and Oreo chocolate buttercream, the middle tier was gluten and milk-free lemon drizzle sponge with raspberry jam and lemon buttercream and the bottom tier was a vanilla bean sponge with biscoff buttercream and salted caramel sauce.

We didn’t book any entertainment because everyone was just so happy to be together again after spending so much time apart throughout the lockdown. We danced all night and all of our guests knew that if they wanted to talk to us, we would both be on the dancefloor! We provided baskets of flip flops for everyone because we knew that dancing would a big part of our reception!
Joe is colour blind so as a present for my new husband, I gave him a pair of glasses so that he could see more colour. It was such an amazing moment for him and he eagerly explained all of the different shades that he could see.

Quirky wedding venue Buckinghamshire Railway Centre was the backdrop for Pippa and Ollie’s celebration Images courtesy of Julia & You
Pippa Geaves and Oliver (Ollie) Butcher married on 12th August 2021 at Buckinghamshire Railway Centre in Aylesbury.

REAL WEDDING
P
ippa and Ollie met in 2015 at their friend’s wedding. “We moved in together in 2018 after enjoying a long-distance romance for three years,” Pippa tells us. “Then, in 2019 our Fox Red Labrador who we named Juniper joined our family.” Ollie proposed to Pippa on the beach at Felixstow during the summer of 2019. “It was a wet and windy day and we were trying to introduce Juniper, who was a puppy at the time, to the sea,” Pippa tells us. “She was nervous about the waves so I ran in to encourage her. When we made it back to the beach, Ollie got down on one knee and presented me with an emerald engagement ring and asked me to marry him! Of course, I said ‘yes’ but it wasn’t a total surprise. I knew that Ollie was going to ask me at some point because my mum was so excited after he had asked for her and my dad’s permission that she told me! But Ollie did manage to surprise me on the proposal day - it was incredibly special and perfect for us!”
SETTING THE SCENE Pippa and Ollie visited the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre a couple of years previously on Valentine’s Day and loved it. “They were holding a steam day and it’s such a cool venue, the walls are adorned with vintage advertisements plus it has a glass ceiling and two steam trains flanking the aisle,” Pippa tells us. “It reflected my love of romance and history while Ollie enjoyed the design and engineering elements. We knew that we wanted a spacious venue close to home without the need to add a lot of decoration.” Pippa arrived at the venue with her father and sister in a light-blue Daimler V8. “I chose this for my dad who loves classic cars and travelled to his wedding to my mum in the same model,” she tells us. “After the ceremony, all of our guests had a ride on a steam train before heading into the champagne reception.” Pippa was worried that she would feel nervous during the ceremony but it was a joyful experience. “Ollie enjoyed watching our guests arrive and told me that seeing my smile was one of the best parts of the day for him,” she says. “I also loved that we had Juniper in attendance throughout the day - she barked during our vows and made for a very vocal guest! We also had lots of children at the ceremony and reception which gave the day a less formal atmosphere.” The couple’s groomsmen, Matt, Charles and Robert, along with their bridesmaids, Alice, Olivia, Holly and Linda, were all a great help on the day, each taking turns to look after Juniper and help to organise guests. “We were particularly grateful to Matt, Olivia and Alice who spent the day before helping to set up the venue, Pippa says. “The staff and volunteers at Buckinghamshire Railway Centre were also incredible from start to finish. They let us have plenty of freedom and their help setting up and clearing away was invaluable. We also hired an on-the-day manager, Lucie, who also provided staff. She was incredible and knew exactly what we wanted and ensured it ran smoothly.” Pippa runs a wedding stationery business, The Stationer by Jeeves & Co. “I wanted Ollie to love the wedding stationery as much as I did so I designed something simple yet inventive and used only the very best materials and specialist print techniques,” she tells us. “I created order-of-service cards and our place cards that were attached to the menus using layers of coloured cards secured with a gold bookbinding rivet. The order-of-service was held in a foil-stamped pocket and embellished with a matte white wax seal.” Pippa also created the table plan using a large ornate gold mirror which featured table cards with each guests’ name written in nib and ink calligraphy. “Each card was secured with a monogram wax seal in hot pink,” she described. “Other signage included a welcome sign, cinema sign, order of the day, timeline of our relationship, bar menus, cake, and guest book signs.” The couple opted for long rectangular tables for their wedding breakfast topped with white linens and crockery, gold cutlery, champagne saucers and bud vases brimming with mauve, pale peach, hot pink and burgundy blooms mixed with plenty of greenery. “We also had glass tea light holders and picture holders shaped like acorns, hares, foxes, and birds to hold the table numbers,” Pippa says. This was in addition to a postcard guest book with ‘travel by rail’ postcards from places that they had both lived in. The flowers helped set the theme. “I asked our florist, Emma, to create wild and whimsical bouquets, buttonholes and a long table arrangement with a subtle woodland feel,” Pippa explains. “She used a collection of garden roses, scabious, 37

To complement these, I wrapped faux garlands around the copper wedding arch and sign stand that my dad had made.” The couple’s three-tier pink ombre wedding cake was embellished with gold foil. “We chose a champagne and strawberry layer, a lemon and elderflower tier and a chocolate mud cake,” Pippa says. “We also provided vegan and gluten-free cupcakes and brownies displayed on a tiered cake stand.” Pippa and Ollie wanted their catering to be informal yet indulgent so they chose the street food vendor, The Lazy Pig, who served mini beef Yorkshire puddings, smoked salmon bagels, pigs in blankets and veggie bruschetta canapés during the champagne reception. “For the wedding breakfast, we had a hog roast with all the trimmings, followed by a choice of three desserts – Jammy Dodger cheesecake, chocolate brownie and tarte au citroen,” Pippa says. “During the evening, guests could choose from four different stone-fired pizza options and we had an open bar offering wine, fizz, beer and spirits with a bubbly bar for guests to add Edinburgh gin liquors and Belvoir cordials to their prosecco.”
LOOKING THE PART Pippa wore the Ilma dress by Pronovias. “It’s an ivory strapless Chantilly lace and embroidered-tulle mermaid-shaped dress featuring a sweetheart neckline,” Pippa says. “It was the first style that I tried on and I fell in love with it.” Pippa styled her dress with vintage glamour and whimsical-inspired pieces. “I had a French silk tulle veil and hairpins, a Swarovski crystal bracelet and earrings with green crystals to match Ollie’s jacket and my engagement and wedding rings, and I also wore a pair of elegant mint shoes and carried a clutch bag.” Ollie had a green suit jacket made for him that he teamed with cream chinos, tan brogues, a cravat and pocket square and a silver fox cravat pin. “My mum made 40 metres of bunting from Liberty London fabric which looped across the entrance and interior gate and fences,” Pippa says. “I matched the patterned fabrics with other aspects of our day including Ollie’s cravat and the inside of his suit jacket, my Dad’s tie, Juniper’s harness and lead, and my bridesmaids’ gift bags. The groomsmen’s chinos and waistcoat matched Ollie’s but they wore navy jackets and a dark-purple cravat and our bridesmaids wore full-length mauve dresses paired with sparkly cover-ups.”
TIME TO CELEBRATE During the ceremony, the couple had a string duo. “Their performance was a real highlight for me,” Pippa says. “Having live music and compositions that we choose ourselves made our ceremony feel very personal and intimate. During the evening, we had a DJ play and a magician entertained the guests who didn’t want to dance. We also created a DIY photo booth using 1920s-style props and a vintage-style instant camera.” 39

arol and Mike met at work when they joined at the same time. “We’re the fourth couple to get married within our group of work friends!” Carol tells us. They became engaged during a surprise proposal while on a romantic holiday in Greece. “We went for a walk along the beach and Mike didn’t even have time to get down on one knee before I said yes!” Carol says.
SETTING THE SCENE The couple loved Lillibrooke Manor in Berkshire as soon as they visited. “We wanted to hold our ceremony outside and the gardens looking stunning with a wide variety of settings ideal for photographs,” Carol says. “The large barn looked so atmospheric and we decided to style it with illuminated love letters and a curtain of fairylights.” Leading up to their wedding, the couple were concerned about the potential restrictions that might be in place because of the pandemic and the fact that the weather forecast didn’t look good. “Everything came together perfectly on the morning of our wedding so our nerves were replaced “It was fantastic seeing by excitement,” Carol says. “Mike’s everyone in the same room godmother, Verna, and our friends Lucy and Mike gave some wonderful together after the past year readings during our ceremony that we had all experienced and my dad, Bernie, gave a very during the pandemic. LOOKING THE PART Carol chose a dress by Justin Alexander. “It was a lace fit-and flare-gown,” she says. “I knew that I wanted a dress with plenty of lace and detail and I fell in love with it straight away, it also featured a lace cape that could be removed during the evening.” Mike wore a dark blue suit and waistcoat teamed with his late grandad’s cufflinks who shared the same initials. “The groomsmen wore grey suits and waistcoats and our beautiful bridesmaids all wore purple dresses that looked stunning,” Carol tells us.
TIME TO ENTERTAIN The couple hired the magician Ian Souch who performed while the guests enjoyed canapés. “He was so good and both the adults and children loved him,” Carol says. “We also had a live band who played our first dance song which was Re-arrange by Biffy Clyro and they also performed a set after dinner - we didn’t stop dancing until the end of the night! Our photographer also set up a photo booth after dinner in the engine room. It was so much fun and used by all our guests, we have some great pictures to look back on!” 45
TOP TIP: “Our registrar recommended that we look at our watches at various points during the day to help remember what we were doing at different times which was a great idea!” – Carol and Mike

HOT TOPIC Our experts answer your questions
DARLING BUDS
We’re planning a micro wedding in the new year, can you give us some ideas for wow-factor floral arrangements? Lisa says: The trend for micro weddings has taken off and is such a lovely way to celebrate a union. Having a small group of loved ones attending means that you can allocate your budget differently, investing in statement flowers because you’re saving in other areas.
Beautiful floral arches, backdrops, and elaborate tablescapes provide the wow factor, and smaller touches like providing wearable flowers for each guest makes it personal. Classic white and pink blooms are always a good colour combination and take on a modern artistic twist when incorporated into a hanging installation for a ceremony or a canopy of blooms. Micro weddings can also make it easier to work without floral foam, which is a much more eco-friendly and sustainable practice. 07877 300 283 | www.facebook.com/LisaDarbanFloristry
Meet the expert: Kate Parrott is the head florist at Hanako, a florist creating beautiful arrangements while protecting the planet based in Berkhamsted. Can you give us some ideas for sustainable flowers for our winter wedding? Kate says: We use our flowers to create a vision that moves past stereotypes and achieves something truly unique and bespoke that tells the couple’s personal love story. We focus on a colour palette that complements the season without drawing on the typical tones for this time of year. An ideal palette for winter stems from the blue spectrum drawing inspiration from details like the bridesmaids’ dresses. Using a variety of blooms adds a luxurious feel to arrangements. Deep reds paired with rich pinks and burgundy shades, alongside pops of apricot and cappuccino colours, introduce contemporary touches. 01442 967 949 | www.hanakoflowers.co.uk www.facebook.com/hanakoflowersuk 58

EXPERT ADVICE WISH YOU WERE HERE! Meet the expert: James Bell is the co-founder of The Turquoise Holiday Company based in Beaconsfield. We’re planning our honeymoon for late 2022 and want to go somewhere far-flung with a tropical climate. We’d like a relaxing holiday with a few activities to choose from so where do you suggest? James says: Congratulations! You’ve picked a perfect time to go on your honeymoon. The Maldives delivers tropical isolation in abundance with its pillow-soft white beaches but there are also fun activities in the form of snorkelling, diving and plenty of other water sports. Romantic experiences are aplenty too, with everything from sandbank picnics to sunset cruises. If you fancy a little bit more adventure in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is blessed with gorgeous beaches but its jungle-covered interiors mean you can also go hiking or mountain biking. If you’re looking to travel in December, the Caribbean is a great option and Saint Lucia, in particular, has a good mix of relaxation and adventure with its dreamy stretches of sand and wild emerald interior. Want to push the boat out with your budget? Then we can’t recommend The Islands of Tahiti highly enough. The sand there is like talcum powder, its mountains are covered in forest and the sky is the colour of forget-me-nots. Bora Bora is a magnet for honeymooners and rightly so – Captain Cook didn’t call it the ‘Pearl of the Pacific’ for nothing! 01494 678 400 | www.turquoiseholidays.co.uk www.facebook.com/turquoiseholidays
SAY CHEESE! Meet the expert: Aga Wojciechowska is the owner of Photostars, a modern photo booth experience based in Maidenhead hiring throughout Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. Can you give us some fun ideas for our big-day entertainment? Aga says: Why not hire a magic mirror? Guests are guaranteed to love them and the background can be tailor-made to fit your theme, from a metallic grey, silver, gold or champagnecoloured sequin drape to an iridescent, teal, turquoise or even a rose-gold and champagne choice. Tension backdrops include those decorated with white hearts, rustic wood or pink with balloons and white with flowers. We offer a variety of packages ranging from a Small Party Package to an Exclusive Package suitable for any celebration, large or small. 07979 683 879 | www.photostars.co.uk www.facebook.com/photostarsmagicmirror 59

Memorable moments
County Wedding Magazines editor Melissa Barker shares her wedding planning journey
READY, SET, POSE!

www.chrisblackledg ephotography.co.uk
Dave and I were unsure if we wanted to book a pre-wedding shoot as we don’t like our picture being taken and can be quite awkward in front of the camera. I spoke to a few of our married friends and they all recommended booking a shoot, so we decided to go for it. As we got engaged during the last lockdown, we had only met our photographer once over Skype, so we felt the shoot would also be a good way of getting to know him better ready for our big day. We’d arranged to meet on a beach in Kent, and as I’m sure you can tell from the pictures, it was extremely blustery and cold, so much so we were convinced we would appear blue
in the final shots! Although it wasn’t the perfect weather conditions, the combination of our windswept appearence – my hair must have looked like Medusa – onlookers and relaxed nature of our photographer made the shoot fun! I was very nervous beforehand, changing my outfit 10 times much to Dave’s annoyance, but once we were there we both felt at ease and had a great time. If you’re debating booking a shoot, I’d highly recommend it.
ACCESSORISE AND SHINE Wedding planning has been pretty straightforward overall, but when it came to choosing my accessories, I felt very overwhelmed. I wouldn’t describe myself as particularly girly, but I wanted something that would make me look beautiful on the day without being overpowering. After hours of shopping, I surprised myself by discovering I have a hidden love for pearls, so when I came across a pearl and floral hair clip, I just knew that I had to have it! I’m planning to finish my look with a pair of pearl earrings and a pendant necklace. My shoes have also been difficult. I’m 5ft 2ins and Dave is more than 6ft tall, so I was debating whether to wear heels to make the height difference less apparent. All the heels that I loved were really expensive and I was beginning to have nightmares about falling over as I walked down the aisle – I’m not the most gracious person even in flats! So, after looking at countless websites and going into what feels like every shoe shop in Essex, I finally decided to embrace my height and purchased a pair of glittery trainers with satin laces from Kate Spade. Although different to what I had orginally envisaged, I think the look suits my dress and it’s made me feel more relaxed knowing I won’t be going to A&E on the big day. Lastly, Dave and I went ring shopping – a traditonal wedding element we still wanted
for our nuptials. When we arrived at the jewellers, which was the same branch that Dave purchased my engagement ring from, I was pleasantly surprised to learn they had a matching wedding ring that I, of course, had to have. Luckily we are months ahead of our wedding, however we were made aware that some ring designs can take up to four months to arrive in the store – take note readers that are planning last-minute ‘I dos’! Dave never wears jewellery, so he was unsure of what style he wanted and all of the different types of metal and cuts were quite overwhelming for him. After doing some research and asking our friends for their opinions, he decided on a plain platinum band that looks great. Make sure you check out the next issue where I’ll be discussing our search for the perfect entertainment.

his year has flown by, can you believe it’s nearly Christmas? It’s starting to dawn on me that this is my last as a Miss – eek – and July will creep around quickly so the countdown is officially on! My fiancé, Dave, and I have booked most of our suppliers including the venue, photographer and florist and I’ve even found my dress – but there’s still plenty to do! We’re getting really excited as the day draws closer, and the more I write about all of your beautiful weddings, the more real it seems that we will have our very own wedding day. In this issue, read all about our pre-wedding shoot and my search for the perfect accessories.

BRIDE’S DIARY
We’ve ordered wooden cutouts of our guests’ names to be used as place names. They look really cute and double up as favours.
Originally, we didn’t want light-up letters, but after seeing a set-up at one of our venue’s wedding shows, we loved the look and have hired them.
Dave and I have purchased an oak direction sign that will greet our guests as they enter our venue.
Although I was against the idea of wearing a veil, I tried one on with my dress and fell in love.
We came across a local company that creates personalised cake toppers, so we’ve decided to order one with figures of us and our cat.
Our venue offers guests a choice of ribbons when they enter the venue, pink if they want people to keep their distance, green if they’re comfortable to shake hands and blue if they are happy to hug. I think it’s a great way of making sure that everyone feels happy and safe on the day.
We’re planning to buy personalised cufflinks for Dave and his best man.
I love this buttonhole wrapped in twine and am going to ask our florist if she can do the same.
For our tables, we’re purchased concrete planters that are shaped like characters from our favourite films and tv shows to add a personal touch to the day. 61

SUSTAINABLY CHIC
Grace Loves Lace has unveiled its first eco wedding gown called Lumi retailing at £2,200. It’s constructed from 96% recycled materials and has been ethically handcrafted in the brand’s Australian studio. Founder and creative director, Megan Ziems, tells us, “We were inspired to take materials that would have been otherwise discarded and use modern technology to create a beautiful wedding gown that holds so much meaning.” She continues, “The way the dress hugs and supports the body is flawless. The cup shape and wide straps are perfect for small and large busts, the split on the thigh is elongating, the pearlescent threading is visually flattering and the sheer lace panel on the lower back adds drama.” Launching alongside the gown is the Lumi veil retailing at £390 and crafted from 100% recycled tulle and lace. ogue is best known for her presenting roles across mainstream broadcast platforms such as Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch and Global Player podcast Spencer & Vogue as well as the newly released My Therapist Ghosted Me. Over the past year, Vogue has also landed a weekend show on Heart radio and has previously fronted her popular reality shows on Channel 4 - Spencer, Vogue and Baby Too and Spencer, Vogue and Wedding Two with husband, Spencer Matthews. Regularly showcasing candid family life to her 855k Instagram followers, Vogue is mum to Theodore and Gigi, both of whom inspired the collection with this British brand and have hero items named after them. How would you summarise your ROCO edit? This hand-picked edit of high-quality pieces has been two years in the making. I wanted the 15 stylish looks to be affordable, comfortable and easy for children to wear, so the collection offers a contemporary twist on classic styles for party dressing with trend-led silhouettes available in ice-cream pastel hues offering the perfect fit, designed to make special occasions unforgettable. 78
Who is the collection for? It’s aimed at little ones aged from three months to 14 years. There are cute cotton-mix and linen-style blend dresses, two-piece outfits and suits ideal for celebrations, parties and dressing flowergirls, junior bridesmaids and pageboys at weddings.
How did you find the design process? Did you have a favourite part? I loved working with Laura (Latif, creative director of ROCO) and the team. I’ve always wanted to create my own children’s wear line so to see the pieces evolve from the initial design meeting is so exciting. I immersed myself

LIGHT AND SHADE
A new addition to the Lush range of perfumes, Shade offers a burst of warmth with comforting sandalwood. A fragrance with a conscience, each essential oil has its own story to tell including sandalwood from West Timor, which is extracted from protected and sustainable trees. It’s also made using a new source of olibanum oil from the Dayaxa region in Somaliland. It has full traceability down to the harvester level, with every step of the process being mapped on blockchain. In fact, Lush is working with its supplier to kickstart a project to train local women in small-scale olibanum oil distillation, a first in the community. Find it online at www.lush.com, where it’s priced at £25 for 30ml.
FEEL FLAWLESS
Speak to any wedding make-up artist and they’ll most likely tell you that primer is a must, which is why I wanted to share with you my latest discovery: Super Facialist Skin Perfecting Primer (£17). This little beauty creates a flawless-looking complexion using trusted skincare ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, and colour-correcting pigments. It cleverly blurs imperfections by counteracting the three most common concerns of redness, sallowness and dullness, while simultaneously working to bring back skin’s natural radiance. BACK TO ITS ROOTS
Molton Brown was born in the 1970s as a hair salon based in the heart of London’s shopping district on South Molton Street, which was frequented by the Rolling Stones and many other icons of the day. Creators Caroline Bernstein and her husband would hand mix all formulations in the basement, with conscious care for the environment at the forefront of the brand’s values even then. Now, on the brand’s 50th anniversary it has re-introduced hair care to its range. The collection contains four tailored collections, each with a botanical at the core of its formulation: balancing, volumising, hydrating and repairing. This approach means you can strategically build a healthy-hair routine into your big-day prep depending on the needs of your locks. Check out www.moltonbrown.co.uk

In my humble opinion Kristin Ess The One Signature Shampoo and The One Signature Conditioner are nothing short of miraculous! I won’t lie, my hair was in an embarrassing state when I decided to give these a go. I’d been swimming three days on the bounce – down water slides, through rapids, the works! My locks were a huge matted, straw-like mess. But with just one application the shampoo lathered like a dream and after leaving the conditioner in for the recommended three minutes, even wet my hair started to feel less knotty. I usually dread having to drag the brush through my hair after I’ve washed it, but in no time flat it was knot-free, smooth and ready to dry. Shiny, soft and looking their best, the state of my locks pre-Kristin Ess were a distant memory. This is definitely my new favourite hair routine and at £8 each they won’t break the bank. My advice? Head over to www.boots.com and pop them in your basket immediately!
NATURE’S HARVEST
When Estée Lauder created Youth-Dew bath oil in 1953, she revolutionised the fragrance industry and 75 years later, the brand is carrying on her legacy with the introduction of a new luxury fragrance collection. Each of the eight scents is inspired by nature’s most breathtaking moments such as the radiance of a sunset and the mystery of a moonlit flower. What’s more, Estée Lauder’s new ScentCapture Fragrance Extender technology is specially formulated to allow each perfume to last up to 12 hours after a single application – that should get you from vows to dancefloor no problem. The new Luxury Fragrance Collection (£130 100ml, £68 40ml) is available at Estée Lauder counters nationwide and at www.esteelauder.co.uk
THE EYES HAVE IT
READY OR KNOT
The Detangling Mist is the newest product in The Hair Boss’ award-winning range. The brand, founded by Lisa Shepherd, former British Hairdresser of the Year, simplifies hair care into a four-step routine, and this newbie fits tidily into part three. With life getting busier by the second, this is the quick, on-the-go answer to dry, unruly hair. Targeted to fix frizzy and damaged locks, it’s designed to smooth and strengthen, while protecting your hair and preventing breakage. Lisa says, “In between washes, The Detangling Mist will soften the hair, taming any unruly knots and re-adding the shine that it’s lost since the last wash.” Priced at £8.99, it’s available at https://thehairboss.co.uk
They say the eyes are the window to the soul, so they’re for sure a feature to make the most of on the big day. For those looking for longer lashes and full brows, The B Collection has launched its Lash & Brow Serum (£8.99). This all-natural, vegan, cruelty-free product nourishes and stimulates growth in these two key areas for eyes that’ll pop as you say “I do.” Use every night before bed following your usual skincare routine and wash off in the morning – super-easy. You can also use it during the day to set your brows in place. We love anything with a dual purpose! Find it at https://thebcollection.co.uk 83
From the INSIDE OUT
We caught up with owner and founder of Simone Thomas Wellness, Simone herself, to discover how taking care of yourself from the inside out is the ultimate path to wedding wellness
T
he impact stress and anxiety can have on our bodies should never be underestimated. So, the pandemic has a lot to answer for, even outside of Covid itself. If you’re finding that months of lockdown and wedding-related stress have taken their toll, you’re certainly not alone. Sadly, anxiety-induced skin concerns and even hair loss can quickly leave you feeling pretty far from your big-day best. Enter award-winning authority on hair health and wellness Simone Thomas, who’s spent her career sharing her expertise in nutrition, hairloss and bio-energetics. Alongside hair salons and hair-loss clinics, which boast an elite global clientele that includes royalty, celebrities and CEOs; she’s also the founder of Simone Thomas Wellness. We asked Simone for her help in guiding you back onto the path of wedding wellness. Based on your experience, what challenges are nearlyweds facing in the aftermath of the pandemic? 2020 had a huge affect on the wedding industry with 64 per cent of big days being cancelled or postponed, which means stress levels for everyone involved are now at an alltime high. A wedding is an important day that couples have invested a lot of time and money in, it’s something they’ve dreamed of. So, this is all having a negative impact on how we feel and how we sleep, with our skin and hair responding to that. A bad hair or skin day isn’t great at any time, let alone when the camera is constantly on you and you want to feel your best. What the last year has taught us though is
84
WELLNESS INTERVIEW to start working on yourself? You don’t have to go all out, but you might start looking at a nutrition plan, exercising or having hydra facials. However, I fully recognise there may be financial restraints, so this might not always be possible. In which case, I’d say three months is optimal, but the minimum is six weeks in advance. This way there’s time to flush out any nasties and create balance allowing the body to become stronger and progress. Many tell me they start to see a difference within two weeks. how to take a step back and invest in ourselves, as we often don’t listen to what our bodies need. At Simone Thomas Wellness, we’ve seen a huge increase in clients asking for advice on nutrition and bioenergetics, as well as hair loss. There’s also been a rise in skin conditions like psoriasis, acne, dermatitis of the scalp, eczema, telogen effluvium and alopecia areata, which is commonly linked to stress and hormones. In fact, stress has a huge knock on effect on our hormones as women. But men too are experiencing skin complaints and suffering hair loss. So, people preparing for their big days have really been struggling during lockdown. How can we turn this around – where do we start? What I always say is that everything starts in the gut. If you look after that, the body will look after you. I call it The Mothership. Poor gut health is the start of disease and can be linked to degenerative disorders, so it really should be the number one priority if you’re looking to feel the best version of yourself. Everyday Wellness, part of the Simone Thomas Wellness range, is a super-strength probiotic supplement containing six types of probiotics to improve gut health by introducing both good and bad bacteria, vital on a day-today basis. When I say “bad bacteria” people often ask me, why anyone would want that, but the body needs diversity to become stronger. These supplements also help to reduce the inflammation that occurs naturally in a body. Food can be a trigger, as can poor sleep patterns, stress, and the environment. Here, we’re focusing on removing any nasties so they don’t get absorbed into the cells. What advice would you give to those looking to achieve that natural-looking bridal glow without a face full of make-up? Skin Quencher is great for anyone wanting to feel youthful or who’s keen to avoid wearing lots for make-up. It’ll work from the inside out to give you that ultimate bridal glow. I’m also a huge fan of facials, but it’s more about what we put into our body rather than what we put on top of it. You have to work on yourself internally for the outside to glow. Yes, skincare products are going to have an effect, but if the inside isn’t right, it won’t be long term.
Biotin Brilliance too helps with mild skin irritation caused by stress. You may already have heard about biotins, they’re a B vitamin and have been talked about for a number of years as being vital for healthy skin, hair and nails. What can you suggest for brides, and bridesmaids, looking to grow their hair for a wedding? Our Ginkgo Biloba B+ plan contains folic acid with essential B vitamins and biotin, but if you don’t suffer from tiredness, then the biotin haircare plan is great for maintenance. Alternatively, if you have no specific worries about hair loss, but want to feel the best version of yourself, taking no chances with stress, Skin Quencher is great too. These plans are also great for grooms concerned about hair loss. What are the benefits of a haircare plan versus a single supplement? I formulated the plans because I learnt from experience that most people’s concept of what’s healthy actually isn’t. Most of us will happily invest in skincare and clothes, but not in how we feel internally. I think of the plans as a three-step process, much like a garden. To grow beautiful flowers, you need sunlight, amazing soil, and water. So, the probiotics are the ultimate go to, but there’s no point if you’re a fan of microwave meals or Macdonald’s. Unless you cook from scratch, you’re throwing away the goodness you’re putting into the body with the probiotics. Pairing them with Super Greens and Ginkgo Biloba B+ or Biotin Brilliance is then all about preparing the gut, balancing the body and removing toxins, as well as making sure you create the best environment for vitamin and mineral absorption. The most important step though is water: filtered versus tap, glass bottle versus plastic. Purely because of what can be absorbed through plastic as well as unfortunately what’s in mainstream water that comes through the tap.
Tell us a bit about the company’s ethos. Supplements are a big industry, but they’ve often received bad press because the products simply don’t do what they claim to. So, these are all things we’ve addressed across everything we do from the ingredients to manufacturing. We make sure that every process has full certification, including soil association and vegan accreditation. We’ve worked hard to ensure our products are vegan and our marine collagen is protected and sourced ethically. Everything is sustainable as much as possible. When our bottles are finished with they get made into tiles and flooring, and the packaging too is eco-friendly. Even the energy used in my office is renewable. We’re proud of the fact that recently we were responsible for 25 trees being planted in the rainforest due to our renewable energy contract.
WANT TO KNOW MORE? Simone’s book, Healthy Hair Happy Body, contains her comprehensive and motivational plan to transform wellbeing from the inside out. In each chapter she introduces concepts that provide insight into how the body functions, and what really makes a difference to achieving optimum health, sharing how tiny adjustments over time can lead to better results. It’s available at www.amazon.co.uk, priced at £15, with £1 going to Motor Neurone Disease Association. The Biotin Haircare Plan, £70; The Ginkgo Haircare Plan, £70; and SkinQuencher, £35 by Simone Thomas Wellness, are all available at https://simonethomaswellness.com
When would be the ideal time to start taking supplements in order to feel wedding-ready? To me there’s never a day too early! Most couples will start planning a year to two years in advance, so why not use the same timeline 85

Q&A Our experts reveal all
WINTER WEDDINGS How can I look after my skin and hair in the run-up to my winter wedding? Meet the expert: Rosie Scott is a hair and make-up artist based in Berkshire specialising in weddings, photo shoots, fashion editorial, television, film and music videos. Rosie says: Visibly healthy skin and hair is essential for bridal beauty and during the winter months, it’s vital to stick to a hair and skincare regime. Having regular professional facial treatments to prep, soften and energise your skin is a must - your beautician can recommend a bespoke skincare
86
routine. Apply a richer moisturiser during the colder months when your skin tends to be dryer and needs extra nutrients to maintain a healthy glow. Exfoliate regularly and gently, and try an oil-based scrub that’s less harsh and more gentle and hydrating. Change your cleanser to a soapfree one with a natural pH that will help to prevent your skin from drying out and invest in an oil-based cleanser that rinses off with cold water. Luscious lips can be achieved by using a lip scrub to remove dry and flaky skin. Lip balms are a great way of keeping them moisturised. Your hands need love too so nourish them with an intensive moisturiser applied after every wash. Healthy skin and hair can be achieved from within by taking vitamin C supplements which are a vital component for hair health. Omega 3 fatty acids will help it grow faster and shine, and regular trims at your salon will keep your locks looking healthy, even if you’re trying to grow your hair for your big day. Hair conditioning treatments in a salon or at home will give your strands an extra moisture boost. Try to wash it once or twice a week because shampooing too often can strip it of natural oils. If you have oily hair and need to wash it more often, use a dry shampoo in between washes to keep it feeling fresh. Finally, drink plenty of water because hydration is the key to healthy skin and hair all year round.

EXPERT ADVICE
Meet the expert: Mia Towndrow is a qualified massage therapist, reflexologist and reiki specialist and the owner of Pure Wellbeing Therapy based in Crowthorne. She offers a mobile service throughout Wokingham, Ascot, Reading and the surrounding areas. Mia says: To help support a healthy immune system, take vitamin supplements that include vitamin C, vitamin D and zinc. Eating a balanced diet containing nutritious foods will nourish the body and support a healthy mind and drinking at least 1.5 to 2 litres of water every day will keep your skin and body hydrated. Regular holistic massage treatments are a must if your budget allows because massage helps to reduce stress, strengthen the immune system, increase blood flow and helps the body rid itself of toxins. A good massage treatment will help you switch off from the wedding planning and give you a sense of wellbeing. Facial massage helps to relax the face and reflexology can help to balance the entire body. Take part in any form of exercise that suits you for at least 10 to 15 minutes per day. It helps to clear the mind and boost your mood. Finally, remember to take time for yourself and schedule quality time for self-care, even if it’s simply a hot bath with your favourite bubbles and a hydrating facial mask.
Meet the expert: Miranda specialises in bridal make-up, photo shoots, headshots and make-up for special occasions. She teaches online lessons and offers a complimentary half-hour consultation. Miranda says: Skin becomes dehydrated during the winter months due to living in houses with central heating and in contrast, being outside in the colder temperatures so aim to drink two litres of water every day and reduce your caffeine and alcohol intake which can dehydrate you. Up your summer skincare regime by using richer, not heavier, moisturisers. If you don’t like a richer face cream there are plenty of gel creams available with hydrating ingredients. Apply a good-quality serum underneath your moisturiser because they’re concentrated in ingredients and nourish further into the skin layers - it means that you need less of your moisturiser. You must regularly exfoliate your skin, removing the dead skin cells on the surface to allow the new hydrated ones to shine through. Invest in skincare products that contain hyaluronic acid which attracts moisture to the skin and delivers water to the cells. Edulis cellular water and Aloe Vera are great ingredients to help maintain skin moisture in the long run. I always recommend Arbonne’s Bio-Hydra range, a cost-effective, highly effective hydrating skincare range.
