t dawned on me just recently that I have just six months left until I transform from editor into bridesmaid extraordinaire! Is anyone else freaked out by how quickly time passes en route to W-day? Despite spending my days telling all of you lovely people how to plan, I have very much not practised what I’ve preached and am now panicking about getting into shape. So, it’s a good job indeed that I’m not the bride, who fortunately is literally the most organised person I’ve ever met. That being said, the bride tribe (plus groom) recently decided to hit a wedding show at the venue hosted by our sister company County Wedding Events, looking for finishing touches and bridesmaid dresses. While I’ve attended many a wedding fair in my time with my professional hat on, nothing beats the excitement of experiencing one from the other side of the fence. So, to help you get the most out of your next visit to a wedding fair, I’ve compiled my top five tips. 1. Pre-register. Make sure you sign up on the organisers website. CWE is offering timed entry slots at the moment to keep you all safe and allow you to enjoy your browsing comfortably. 2. Be prepared. Find out who’s exhibiting beforehand and make up a hit list of the suppliers you want to check out. You can usually find this info on the event’s website, but if not there’ll likely be show guide available, so grab one when you arrive and settle down with a cuppa or glass of bubbly before you venture any further. 3. Fashion shows. These are not to be missed in our book. Seeing the latest designs on an actual human, as opposed to on the hanger, can give you a whole new perspective along with tons of ideas. 4. Show and tell. If you’re already at the point where you know your theme, colour palette and venue, it’s a good idea to take your mood board along with you. If you find a supplier you’re keen to work with, it’ll really help them to get a peek at this to get their creative juices flowing. 5. Snap happy. Make sure your smart phone is fully charged and be ready to get as many pics as you can of the things you love. Big events can be a little daunting and the last thing you want is to get home and forget where you saw that incredible cake. And now, without further ado, I bring you the latest issue of Your Cheshire and Merseyside Wedding (which incidentally is our 60th). Check out these pages for my issue highlights to ensure you don’t miss a thing. Enjoy and keeep planning!

In 2015, cake maker Debbie Fenton opened a small boutique bakery producing celebration cakes and cupcakes after leaving her career in local government. Her story started like so many others baking and creating cakes for friends and family until her work became so popular the shop was the next step. Since then, Lois’ Little Cake & Chocolate Co. has gone from strength to strength, employing two other full-time cake designers and producing edible works of art for a range of high-profile clients. Six years of hard work and a pandemic later, the business is expanding into a larger premises in Sandbach. The design and creation of wedding and celebration cakes will remain at its heart, but with extra floor space, the team can now offer a tea room experience. The Grade II listed premises boast a myriad of original features and offers a wonderful environment for afternoon tea. All of the edible treats served will be baked fresh on site and washed down with tea from a well-recognised merchant, Eteaket. For coffee lovers, a local Cheshire-based coffee roasting company will also be creating its own artisan brand and handmade chocolates by Belgian and Holland will still be available. What’s more, a private dining room will be accepting afternoon tea bookings for parties up to 12, great for your hen party. Doors to the new store will open on Tuesday 16th November, ready for Christmas, with a planned official opening organised for Saturday 22nd January, 2022. Luxury British jeweller ROX has launched a nationwide hunt for the next big jewellery designer. The competition, Future Makers, is open to all aspiring jewellery designers and makers, with entrants invited to submit a commercial jewellery design, which will be manufactured by ROX in its workshop. The winner will also receive a four-week internship there. Kyron Keogh (pictured), co-founder of the company and one of the competition’s three judges says, “We truly believe that British jewellery designers are still among the best in the world. Jewellery making is one of the few crafts that remains true to its roots in the modern world. While modern technology has aided design, the traditional techniques have remained consistent. It’s traditional craftsmanship that’s been passed down for generations that we want to celebrate through our competition, while encouraging entrants to bring a modern twist to the fore.” Founded in 2002 ROX, has a flagship boutique in Liverpool, specialises in bespoke jewellery, diamond rings and watches. LIVERPOOL ST GEORGE’S HALL
Recognised as one of the finest neoclassical buildings in the world, the Grade I listed St George’s Hall opened in 1854 as an expression of the confidence and ambition the Victorians had for Liverpool. Standing proud on St George’s Plateau and famed for its Corinthian columns, Queen Victoria once described the Hall’s exterior as “worthy of ancient Athens,” and it remains that way today. To the west of this grand building you’ll find St John’s Gardens, which feature ornate flower beds and offer a lovely spot for those all-important photographs. What’s more, outside on the terrace, located on the central portico beneath 16 Corinthian columns, there’s space available to hire for an al fresco drinks reception. Ceremonies can be held in one of two spaces, both with enormous capacities, so no need to worry about the size of your guest list here! With its impressive chandeliers, huge bronze doors and marbled walls adorned with statues and stained-glass windows, the Great Hall simply oozes magnificence, sure to leave your guests enthralled. It can accommodate 800 for the “I dos,” 550 for the wedding breakfast and 550 for the evening do (500 with a dancefloor). Equally astounding is the Concert Room, which features an opulent crystal chandelier and walls lined with goddess-like statues, all decorated in gentle tones of cream, white, honey and gold. aura and Neil met through mutual friends and from the moment they started chatting it was clear they had a lot in common – it even turned out that they’d actually been living around the corner from each other for the past two-and-ahalf years. Neil won Laura over with his cooking and prepared her a chicken pesto pasta dish on one of their first dates. “We don’t know what would have happened if he hadn’t made me that meal,” Laura laughs. The couple headed to New York to celebrate Laura’s 30th birthday and went to watch the sun rise over the Brooklyn Bridge on the first morning there. Laura remembers, “It seemed to take forever thanks to all of the high-rise buildings.” But when it eventually peaked out from behind the skyscrapers Neil got down on one knee and presented her with the engagement ring. “It was a huge surprise! We were expecting our first child that August and were about to move house, so I’d thought a wedding would have to wait,” Laura shares. It was love at first sight when the pair visited Abbeywood Estate. “The gardens are breathtakingly beautiful – the perfect setting for a summer wedding,” Laura explains. The venue had to close during lockdown, but its gardens could remain open, and they made the most of them by going for walks with their new daughter. So, by the time the wedding date came round, they felt a real affinity with the place. Here, bride Laura shares her memories of the big day...
SETTING THE SCENE Laura and Neil opted to style their day in a romantic and relaxed way, using a palette of dusky pink and grey, accented with eucalyptus and plenty of greenery. This was beautifully brought to life through the floral arrangements. A flower arch adorned the church entrance, with two dramatic pedestals bearing blooms flanking the aisle. At the reception venue, grey chiffon runners were draped along the centre of the tables and glass candle sticks holding tall dusky rose candles sat on top, with eucalyptus and roses carefully wrapped around the bases. The table plan was created in a white canvas with eucalyptus detailing around the edges and the place names were designed to match. As wedding favours, guests were gifted super-cute packets of seeds, which were labelled “let love grow.” Laura’s mum made the big-day bake and decorated it in silver grey ribbon to complement the theme. “After months of tasting and practising, she definitely pulled it off,” the bride tells us. It was completed with more beautiful blooms provided by their florist. The venue took on a wonderfully romantic ambience in the evening as lanterns lit the 21
pathway and little lights illuminated the bridge in the gardens. The staff also dressed the beams of the glasshouse in eucalyptus and drapes with more twinkling lights.
“Having our friends and family together for the first time in what felt like forever was the most special feeling.” LOOKING THE PART The bride wore a Lusan Mandongus gown, which was expertly altered by Carlamarie, owner of The Brides Room in Southport. “She was amazing,” Laura says. She kept her accessories subtle with some diamond and pearl drop earrings. Her new motherin-law kindly had these made for her using two diamonds from Neil’s grandmother’s engagement ring. Meanwhile, her groom bought her a matching pearl necklace as a surprise. Neil, his best men and the dads were all dressed in traditional black dinner suits complete with black bow ties. The style of the groom’s waistcoat differed from the other gents to allow him to stand out as man-of-themoment. He also wore a very dapper-looking custom-made white shirt with black buttons. The bridesmaids wore silver grey Motee Maids dresses. The girls each chose the style of top they wanted to go with the coordinating tulle skirt. They were all delicately embellished with diamantés and pearls, mirroring the bride’s accessories.
“No matter what wedding day you end up having, it’ll still be the best day of your life.” TIME TO CELEBRATE Acoustic musician Daisy Kate played during the drinks reception, creating a beautifully relaxed atmosphere. “We’d hire her again in a heartbeat. Many of our guests commented on how good she was,” Laura remembers. The garden games too were a huge hit, especially with the children. Owner of the Rustic Wedding Company Tina even came to set them up in the morning, and collected them the following day ensuring a stress-free experience. The evening do centred around sixpiece band, The Back Beats booked via Entertainment Nation. “They were amazing and so accommodating with requests,” Laura says. Guests also loved the converted VW Campervan photo booth, which provided heaps of fun throughout the evening. 22
22
“It’s so easy to get carried away with planning, so set realistic expectations, embrace the spreadsheet and keep in mind that the day is about becoming husband and wife. Everything else will fall into place.”
REAL WEDDINGS
LOVE IN THE MIDST OF CHAOS Laura remembers the worry caused by the turbulence and uncertainty of the past year or so: “We were a bag of nerves for the announcement on 14th June, as we didn’t know what it’d mean for our big day. We didn’t even know how many guests we’d be having until five days beforehand!” But luckily that latest update in restrictions meant they could have their 70 guests by their sides as they celebrated. The excitement was tainted slightly though by the fact that Neil’s family had to make the tough decision not to make the journey from Ireland, but plans are already underway to make up for it with another celebratory bash as soon as it’s safe.

Take two Having postponed most of their plans from 2020, Holly and Christian’s second big day was a huge celebration of love Images courtesy of Kevin Brown Photography
REAL WEDDINGS
H
olly and Christian met in the oh-so modern way: via a dating app. Although coincidentally, it turned out that they had several friends in common. After a few dates it became quite clear that the pair were the perfect match and quickly became a huge part of one another’s lives. Christian devised the proposal that many of us dream of. He booked a surprise trip to Florence and popped the question in a rooftop bar overlooking the spectacular city. Well, of course Holly said “yes”! The couple were on the lookout for a local venue that would be convenient for their guests to get to, and scoured Liverpool for the perfect spot. As soon as they set foot inside The Isla Gladstone Conservatory, they knew it was the one. “We loved the huge open room with lots of light and outdoor space – ideal for a summer wedding,” Holly explains. The original wedding date was set for 7th August 2020, and although most of their plans had to be postponed due to Covid, the duo were so keen to become husband and wife that they decided to go ahead and tie the knot at Bethel Church with 20 guests. So, despite technically already being married when this new date, 23rd July 2021, rolled around, they opted to do it all again, ceremony included, so that all of their friends and family could share in the celebrations with them this time. Holly laughs as she remembers: “Pastor Rob gave us a great service both times and made everyone giggle when he asked whether anyone knew of any legal reason why we couldn’t get married he said, ‘You’re too late, you should’ve said last year.’” Read on as the bride tells us more about their even bigger big day, 23rd July 2021...
25
My bridesmaids and I all had bouquets featuring white roses, and the men complemented these by wearing the same bloom as buttonholes.
Christian was dressed in a slim fit three-piece suit, in a slightly brighter blue than the groomsmen’s. He completed the look with a pink tie, pocket square, and buttonhole in contrast to the white roses the other gents wore.
My mum walking me down the aisle was a memory I’ll never forget. I was so pleased too that my nan could be there to enjoy the day despite previous ill health. 26
My dress wasn’t a style I’d expected to choose, but my mum picked it out for me and as soon as I tried it on, I knew it was the one. It was a fitted lace dress with a low back and I accessorised it with a silver belt and veil.
We bought everyone a scratch card each to reflect our gambling streak and love for Las Vegas, where we holidayed a few years ago. For our table plan we ordered a huge poster from Babyobaidi to match our welcome sign and aisle runner. Our table numbers too tied in with this design.
REAL WEDDINGS
My bridesmaids ranged in age from 21 to 40 so it was difficult to find one dress to suit everyone, but I managed it in the end! We opted for pale pink dresses with sparkly sequins on top and netted skirts.
We used silver candelabras from the venue as centrepieces, and then bought our own wreaths with greenery and white roses to complement the rest of the flowers. Our sleek white cake had silver diamanté decorations, with fresh flowers to match the rest of the venue styling.
Choosing the food was great as we got to taste lots of different options, but it was important to pick something that most people would enjoy.
27
We were both so happy and relieved that the wedding we’d dreamed of for so long could finally go ahead after all the restrictions over the past year.
The speeches from the father-of-the-bride, groom and best men were a real highlight of the day. They were all so heartfelt while being funny at the same time.
One of my friends who’s in a band performed some acoustic numbers at the end of the evening, including plenty of classics to get everyone singing along. We also entertained our guests by performing a choreographed first dance with our groomsmen and bridesmaids involving a mash-up of dancefloor classics.
We had a DJ in the evening who said ours was the easiest wedding he’s ever done as the dancefloor was full all evening!

onni and Brendan met on a day trip when they worked together at Hampden Park in Glasgow. The pair were the perfect match and on Christmas Eve 2017, much to Ronni’s surprise, Brendan proposed. With their hearts set on an intimate wedding day, they found themselves attracted to the grandeur of the wedding spaces at Liverpool Town Hall and immediately knew that was the place they’d say “I do.” So, they wasted no time in setting the date for 18th June, 2021. Here, take a peek at the newlyweds’ wedding album, where every picture tells the story of their super-romantic and fun-filled day... Ronni’s on trend dried flower bouquet is now displayed in a personalised vase gifted to her by a friend.
The bride’s dress is by Kirsty Doyle and was stylishly accessorised with a short veil and Jimmy Choos. “I purchased it just two weeks prior with such ease,” she tells us.
32
REAL WEDDING
While the pandemic forced the pair to restrict their guest list, they decided not to let it affect how they felt about their wedding day and each other. “Remember the day is for you – the bride and groom,” Ronni says.
Following the ceremony the happy couple headed to Gino D’Acampo’s My Restaurant for the wedding breakfast accompanied by their nearest and dearest. This was followed by a visit to Baby E Coffee Shop for some drinks.
“On the day I felt nervous, excited and in love all at once. Celebrating with our friends and family really was the highlight of the day,” the bride remembers.
Ronni’s seven-year-old brother, AJ, gave her away.

he stunning Llyn Gwynant Barns in Snowdonia was the setting for this bright, bold and beautiful shoot. One of the shoot’s coordinators, photographer Sally Smart, tells us, “Due to the wet and dreary weather we tend to experience up here in the mountains of North Wales, we decided to use bright colours for our styling.” And, inspired by the connected campsite, where guests can enjoy a night under canvas in the breath-taking setting, they chose a boho theme. Sally and her fellow coordinator, Cassie McClymont of Cassie M Bridal, shared a vision of utilising the lake, as it seemed a shame not to
take full advantage of one of the Canadian canoes that the campsite rents out to visitors. “The valley has an incredible vantage point from high, so we took our couple up there and captured this breathtaking view of the lake,” Sally explains. So, with this spectacular scenery a mere hop, skip and a jump from Cheshire and Merseyside, we just had to share this with you. We’re in love with the pairing of bold hues and a rustic setting. Plus, the model’s fresh and flawless look is nothing short of bridal perfection. Here, Sally tells us a little more... 35
“Our venue stylist embraced the idea of ribbons to embellish the chairs, as well as swapping lampshades for multi-coloured lanterns.”
“Subtle lids with a few enhanced lashes opens up the eyes, and a rouge blush is proving very popular with 2021 brides.”
“Cassie wanted to show how a beautiful bridal up do can look relaxed yet romantic, and opted for loose, cascading curls with twists and fresh flowers.”

“Our amazing cake-maker stunned us all with a beautiful bake decorated in delicate pressed edible flowers taking inspiration from our florist.”
“The venue has a natural arch of trees, which the florist filled with bright flowers. These were then moved onto the canoe to flank our models, just as you can multi-purpose your arrangements on your own wedding day.”

hoot coordinator Susan Giles of Elizabeth Anna Cake Design fell in love with Delamere Manor from her very first visit, and felt inspired to put together a shoot focused on its stunning scenery. Venue stylist Jodie from Wild Meadow Weddings whose ethos is based on sustainability, suggested the delicate blush pink palette, and with Tanya Flannagan’s style of photography being the perfect complement, plans gathered apace. Susan tells us, “From there I called upon some of my favourite suppliers to complete the team, as well as real life couple Alfie and Kirstie, our models for the day.” So, take a stroll through this English country garden. is for ORIGIN Some venues grow their own herbs and vegetables and many caterers will support local farmers by using their meat and produce. Serving locally-sourced food at your wedding not only adds to the ambience, but also supports the community, ensures quality and offers sustainability by reducing the miles it’s had to travel.
Q
is for QUICHE Buffets are still the most popular option for an evening feast. If that conjures up less than appetising images of quiche and sandwiches for you, fear not. The modern buffet is a thing of beauty with options like street food stations, tapas, sausage sarnies and mini sliders. Check out www.cheekychillievents.co.uk

W is for YORKSHIRE PUDDING The idea of a wedding carvery fills us with joy! Everyone will be delighted by a roast dinner and you also have that added element of interaction and entertainment as designated guests carve at the table in chef’s hat and pinny.
is for WORLD CUISINE Spice up your life with an exciting international menu. If you love overseas travel and want the all-important meal to reflect this, talk to your caterer about serving your favourite world cuisine. Your wedding will be the talk of the town!
CATERING is for SEASONAL If you’re stuck for what to serve, tailoring your menu according to the season is always a lovely way to go. is for VEGETARIAN and VEGAN One stress-free way to ensure all dietary needs are catered for is to create an inclusive menu with options to suit everyone. The days of bland and uninspiring vegetarian food are long gone. Alternatively, offer dishes with an interchangeable element should someone need a vegan or dairyfree option, that way you can still have your dream menu with just a few switches. Talk to your caterer about your requirements as they’re sure to have the inspiration and expertise to pull it off.

READY, SET, POSE!

Dave and I were unsure if we wanted to book a pre-wedding shoot as we don’t like our picture being taken and can be quite awkward in front of the camera. I spoke to a few of our married friends and they all recommended booking a shoot, so we decided to go for it. As we got engaged during the last lockdown, we had only met our photographer once over Skype, so we felt the shoot would also be a good way of getting to know him better ready for our big day. We’d arranged to meet on a beach in Kent, and as I’m sure you can tell from the pictures, it was extremely blustery and cold, so much so we were convinced we would appear blue
in the final shots! Although it wasn’t the perfect weather conditions, the combination of our windswept appearence – my hair must have looked like Medusa – onlookers and relaxed nature of our photographer made the shoot fun! I was very nervous beforehand, changing my outfit 10 times much to Dave’s annoyance, but once we were there we both felt at ease and had a great time. If you’re debating booking a shoot, I’d highly recommend it.
ACCESSORISE AND SHINE Wedding planning has been pretty straightforward overall, but when it came to choosing my accessories, I felt very overwhelmed. I wouldn’t describe myself as particularly girly, but I wanted something that would make me look beautiful on the day without being overpowering. After hours of shopping, I surprised myself by discovering I have a hidden love for pearls, so when I came across a pearl and floral hair clip, I just knew that I had to have it! I’m planning to finish my look with a pair of pearl earrings and a pendant necklace. My shoes have also been difficult. I’m 5ft 2ins and Dave is more than 6ft tall, so I was debating whether to wear heels to make the height difference less apparent. All the heels that I loved were really expensive and I was beginning to have nightmares about falling over as I walked down the aisle – I’m not the most gracious person even in flats! So, after looking at countless websites and going into what feels like every shoe shop in Essex, I finally decided to embrace my height and purchased a pair of glittery trainers with satin laces from Kate Spade. Although different to what I had orginally envisaged, I think the look suits my dress and it’s made me feel more relaxed knowing I won’t be going to A&E on the big day. Lastly, Dave and I went ring shopping – a traditonal wedding element we still wanted
for our nuptials. When we arrived at the jewellers, which was the same branch that Dave purchased my engagement ring from, I was pleasantly surprised to learn they had a matching wedding ring that I, of course, had to have. Luckily we are months ahead of our wedding, however we were made aware that some ring designs can take up to four months to arrive in the store – take note readers that are planning last-minute ‘I dos’! Dave never wears jewellery, so he was unsure of what style he wanted and all of the different types of metal and cuts were quite overwhelming for him. After doing some research and asking our friends for their opinions, he decided on a plain platinum band that looks great. Make sure you check out the next issue where I’ll be discussing our search for the perfect entertainment.

his year has flown by, can you believe it’s nearly Christmas? It’s starting to dawn on me that this is my last as a Miss – eek – and July will creep around quickly so the countdown is officially on! My fiancé, Dave, and I have booked most of our suppliers including the venue, photographer and florist and I’ve even found my dress – but there’s still plenty to do! We’re getting really excited as the day draws closer, and the more I write about all of your beautiful weddings, the more real it seems that we will have our very own wedding day. In this issue, read all about our pre-wedding shoot and my search for the perfect accessories.

Here’s my moodboard to help give you heaps of inspiration.
BRIDE’S DIARY
We’ve ordered wooden cutouts of our guests’ names to be used as place names. They look really cute and double up as favours.
Originally, we didn’t want light-up letters, but after seeing a set-up at one of our venue’s wedding shows, we loved the look and have hired them.
Dave and I have purchased an oak direction sign that will greet our guests as they enter our venue.
Although I was against the idea of wearing a veil, I tried one on with my dress and fell in love.
We came across a local company that creates personalised cake toppers, so we’ve decided to order one with figures of us and our cat.
Our venue offers guests a choice of ribbons when they enter the venue, pink if they want people to keep their distance, green if they’re comfortable to shake hands and blue if they are happy to hug. I think it’s a great way of making sure that everyone feels happy and safe on the day.
We’re planning to buy personalised cufflinks for Dave and his best man.
I love this buttonhole wrapped in twine and am going to ask our florist if she can do the same.
For our tables, we’re purchased concrete planters that are shaped like characters from our favourite films and tv shows to add a personal touch to the day. 53

WINTER WONDERLAND
What finishing touches can we add to our big day to inject a little more personality and reflect our wintry theme? A lot of our clients tend to opt either for a white and silver, or gold palette over the Christmas period, both of which are amazing as they give a crisp winter wonderland feel. At AE Designs we love working with a pop of colour to bring your day to life, so don’t forget your classic Christmas colours such as red, green, black or navy, which work to bring the sparkle to life and provide contrast with lighter hues. Personalised monograms make a great addition to your wedding stationery and can be used for so many finishing touches as well, tying everything together beautifully – think foiled napkins or coasters, individual menus and cake toppers. Your table plan and welcome sign too can bring your theme together by featuring your monogrammed logo, flower and colour choice, plus any fonts you’ve used on your stationery. Different materials such as engraved acrylic or pressed foil offer a lovely range of textures and brings everything to life. We also love engraved acrylic baubles as favours for a festive wedding. FESTIVE SPIRIT
We’re both obsessed with Christmas! How can we tastefully incorporate it into our ceremony?
Christmas is such a magical time of year, so it’s no wonder you love the idea of incorporating it into your nuptials! With a celebrant-led ceremony there are so many ways you could include your favourite holiday to suit your personalities and style. If you’re outgoing and fun, perhaps you have a favourite Christmas song you’d like your congregation to sing and dance to during the festivities? If you’re looking for something more discreet though, why not consider an adaptation of a symbolic ritual known as a handfasting? This old Celtic tradition was historically seen as a legally binding contract of marriage, but today it’s used as a symbol to reflect how a couple’s lives are to be bound together. During this ritual, a blessing of your marriage will be read aloud and a beautiful handfasting braid will be tied around your hands. To incorporate your love for the season, the ribbons could feature your favourite festive colours. Why not add some delicate bells too, bringing a touch of sleigh magic to this visual and special moment in your wedding ceremony? These are just a few ideas, but with the help of a celebrant, the only limit is your imagination so your ceremony could be jam-packed full of Christmas magic! GREEN FINGERS
Sustainability is important to us. How is it possible to carry this through to our wedding rings? As specialists in handmade jewellery, we actively encourage remaking existing jewellery into new wedding rings. This is doubly beneficial as it not only repurposes jewellery that you already own, thus reducing the need for mining, it also incorporates family pieces to make your wedding bands unique and full of meaning. They become a truly symbolic heirloom, there to be enjoyed and handed down through the generations. If this isn’t an option, then it’s possible to use recycled gold along with recycled stones to craft your bespoke rings. Rachael Whitwam | www.oharesjewellers.co.uk 56
THE PARTY’S ON
We’re super-excited about our Christmas wedding and want to include a nod to the festive season in our entertainment, without veering too much towards the tacky! What would you suggest? If you want a hint of the festive season without going too cheesy or overboard at your special celebration, there’s a great version of Paul McCartney’s Wonderful Christmastime by Jars of Clay that you could factor in. It really is wonderful, without being OTT. Try it! Paul Webber | www.tietheknotmusic.com

Grace Loves Lace has unveiled its first eco wedding gown called Lumi retailing at £2,200. It’s constructed from 96% recycled materials and has been ethically handcrafted in the brand’s Australian studio. Founder and creative director, Megan Ziems, tells us, “We were inspired to take materials that would have been otherwise discarded and use modern technology to create a beautiful wedding gown that holds so much meaning.” She continues, “The way the dress hugs and supports the body is flawless. Over the past year, Vogue has also landed a weekend show on Heart radio and has previously fronted her popular reality shows on Channel 4 - Spencer, Vogue and Baby Too and Spencer, Vogue and Wedding Two with husband, Spencer Matthews. Regularly showcasing candid family life to her 855k Instagram followers, Vogue is mum to Theodore and Gigi, both of whom inspired the collection with this British brand and have hero items named after them. How would you summarise your ROCO edit? This hand-picked edit of high-quality pieces has been two years in the making. I wanted the 15 stylish looks to be affordable, comfortable and easy for children to wear, so the collection offers a contemporary twist on classic styles for party dressing with trend-led silhouettes available in ice-cream pastel hues offering the perfect fit, designed to make special occasions unforgettable. 70
Who is the collection for? It’s aimed at little ones aged from three months to 14 years. There are cute cotton-mix and linen-style blend dresses, two-piece outfits and suits ideal for celebrations, parties and dressing flowergirls, junior bridesmaids and pageboys at weddings.
How did you find the design process? Did you have a favourite part? I loved working with Laura (Latif, creative director of ROCO) and the team. I’ve always wanted to create my own children’s wear line so to see the pieces evolve from the initial design meeting is so exciting. I immersed myself

The Margaux pink skirt and white top combination with a statement bow at the back looks so pretty.

I’d like to wear a stylish dress that will also keep me warm at our winter wedding. What I should look for? Hanni says: Sleeves are probably the most obvious choice and are luckily very much on trend, with so many gorgeous designs already featuring them. They can be made in a range of fabrics, from a delicate lace to a solid crepe – both of which will take the chill off of your arms on those cold winter days. They can come in a variety of styles too, such as fitted or a bohemian bell, so there’s something to suit, whatever the look you’re going for. Sleeves can also be added to most wedding dresses in the matching fabric, so ask your bridal consultant for advice on this when you’re shopping. If sleeves aren’t your thing though, you might want to opt for a removable shrug or jacket to give you two big-day looks. This way, you can keep a little warmer while you’re outside for photos, but then take it off to reveal your dream dress once inside. Designers Pronovias and Richard Designs have a great range, so they’re worth checking out for inspiration. However, bear in mind that your bridal boutique may be able to make something bespoke.

BABY, IT’S COLD OUTSIDE
CRACKING UP My lips get dry and cracked in the winter. What’s your advice on the best way to combat this so as not to ruin the look of my lipstick? Hannah says: The most important thing is to hydrate your lips. To keep them smooth, lush and kissable, it’s best to exfoliate regularly too. To prep, use medium to hot water on a pad and hold to your lips to soften, then use a specialist scrub to remove all dry skin. Afterwards, pamper your pout with a laminating lip bath or mask, which will provide a real moisture boost. Applying a natural balm before bed can stop your lips getting dry, especially during the winter months. I highly recommend the Natalie Grace Cosmetics lip care kit (https://nataliegracecosmetics.com).

LIGHT AND SHADE
A new addition to the Lush range of perfumes, Shade offers a burst of warmth with comforting sandalwood. A fragrance with a conscience, each essential oil has its own story to tell including sandalwood from West Timor, which is extracted from protected and sustainable trees. It’s also made using a new source of olibanum oil from the Dayaxa region in Somaliland. It has full traceability down to the harvester level, with every step of the process being mapped on blockchain. In fact, Lush is working with its supplier to kickstart a project to train local women in small-scale olibanum oil distillation, a first in the community. Find it online at www.lush.com, where it’s priced at £25 for 30ml.
FEEL FLAWLESS
Speak to any wedding make-up artist and they’ll most likely tell you that primer is a must, which is why I wanted to share with you my latest discovery: Super Facialist Skin Perfecting Primer (£17). This little beauty creates a flawless-looking complexion using trusted skincare ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, and colour-correcting pigments. It cleverly blurs imperfections by counteracting the three most common concerns of redness, sallowness and dullness, while simultaneously working to bring back skin’s natural radiance. Molton Brown was born in the 1970s as a hair salon based in the heart of London’s shopping district on South Molton Street, which was frequented by the Rolling Stones and many other icons of the day. Creators Caroline Bernstein and her husband would hand mix all formulations in the basement, with conscious care for the environment at the forefront of the brand’s values even then. Now, on the brand’s 50th anniversary it has re-introduced hair care to its range. The collection contains four tailored collections, each with a botanical at the core of its formulation: balancing, volumising, hydrating and repairing. This approach means you can strategically build a healthy-hair routine into your big-day prep depending on the needs of your locks. Check out www.moltonbrown.co.uk

EDITOR LOVES
In my humble opinion Kristin Ess The One Signature Shampoo and The One Signature Conditioner are nothing short of miraculous! I won’t lie, my hair was in an embarrassing state when I decided to give these a go. I’d been swimming three days on the bounce – down water slides, through rapids, the works! My locks were a huge matted, straw-like mess. But with just one application the shampoo lathered like a dream and after leaving the conditioner in for the recommended three minutes, even wet my hair started to feel less knotty. I usually dread having to drag the brush through my hair after I’ve washed it, but in no time flat it was knot-free, smooth and ready to dry. Shiny, soft and looking their best, the state of my locks pre-Kristin Ess were a distant memory. This is definitely my new favourite hair routine and at £8 each they won’t break the bank. My advice? Head over to www.boots.com and pop them in your basket immediately!
NATURE’S HARVEST
When Estée Lauder created Youth-Dew bath oil in 1953, she revolutionised the fragrance industry and 75 years later, the brand is carrying on her legacy with the introduction of a new luxury fragrance collection. Each of the eight scents is inspired by nature’s most breathtaking moments such as the radiance of a sunset and the mystery of a moonlit flower. What’s more, Estée Lauder’s new ScentCapture Fragrance Extender technology is specially formulated to allow each perfume to last up to 12 hours after a single application – that should get you from vows to dancefloor no problem. The new Luxury Fragrance Collection (£130 100ml, £68 40ml) is available at Estée Lauder counters nationwide and at www.esteelauder.co.uk

From the INSIDE OUT
We caught up with owner and founder of Simone Thomas Wellness, Simone herself, to discover how taking care of yourself from the inside out is the ultimate path to wedding wellness
T
he impact stress and anxiety can have on our bodies should never be underestimated. So, the pandemic has a lot to answer for, even outside of Covid itself. If you’re finding that months of lockdown and wedding-related stress have taken their toll, you’re certainly not alone. Sadly, anxiety-induced skin concerns and even hair loss can quickly leave you feeling pretty far from your big-day best. Enter award-winning authority on hair health and wellness Simone Thomas, who’s spent her career sharing her expertise in nutrition, hairloss and bio-energetics. Alongside hair salons and hair-loss clinics, which boast an elite global clientele that includes royalty, celebrities and CEOs; she’s also the founder of Simone Thomas Wellness. We asked Simone for her help in guiding you back onto the path of wedding wellness. Based on your experience, what challenges are nearlyweds facing in the aftermath of the pandemic? 2020 had a huge affect on the wedding industry with 64 per cent of big days being cancelled or postponed, which means stress levels for everyone involved are now at an alltime high. A wedding is an important day that couples have invested a lot of time and money in, it’s something they’ve dreamed of. So, this is all having a negative impact on how we feel and how we sleep, with our skin and hair responding to that. A bad hair or skin day isn’t great at any time, let alone when the camera is constantly on you and you want to feel your best. What the last year has taught us though is

WELLNESS INTERVIEW to start working on yourself? You don’t have to go all out, but you might start looking at a nutrition plan, exercising or having hydra facials. However, I fully recognise there may be financial restraints, so this might not always be possible. In which case, I’d say three months is optimal, but the minimum is six weeks in advance. This way there’s time to flush out any nasties and create balance allowing the body to become stronger and progress. Many tell me they start to see a difference within two weeks. how to take a step back and invest in ourselves, as we often don’t listen to what our bodies need. At Simone Thomas Wellness, we’ve seen a huge increase in clients asking for advice on nutrition and bioenergetics, as well as hair loss. There’s also been a rise in skin conditions like psoriasis, acne, dermatitis of the scalp, eczema, telogen effluvium and alopecia areata, which is commonly linked to stress and hormones. In fact, stress has a huge knock on effect on our hormones as women. But men too are experiencing skin complaints and suffering hair loss. So, people preparing for their big days have really been struggling during lockdown. How can we turn this around – where do we start? What I always say is that everything starts in the gut. If you look after that, the body will look after you. I call it The Mothership. Poor gut health is the start of disease and can be linked to degenerative disorders, so it really should be the number one priority if you’re looking to feel the best version of yourself. Everyday Wellness, part of the Simone Thomas Wellness range, is a super-strength probiotic supplement containing six types of probiotics to improve gut health by introducing both good and bad bacteria, vital on a day-today basis. When I say “bad bacteria” people often ask me, why anyone would want that, but the body needs diversity to become stronger. These supplements also help to reduce the inflammation that occurs naturally in a body. Food can be a trigger, as can poor sleep patterns, stress, and the environment. Here, we’re focusing on removing any nasties so they don’t get absorbed into the cells. What advice would you give to those looking to achieve that natural-looking bridal glow without a face full of make-up? Skin Quencher is great for anyone wanting to feel youthful or who’s keen to avoid wearing lots for make-up. It’ll work from the inside out to give you that ultimate bridal glow. I’m also a huge fan of facials, but it’s more about what we put into our body rather than what we put on top of it. You have to work on yourself internally for the outside to glow. Yes, skincare products are going to have an effect, but if the inside isn’t right, it won’t be long term.
Biotin Brilliance too helps with mild skin irritation caused by stress. You may already have heard about biotins, they’re a B vitamin and have been talked about for a number of years as being vital for healthy skin, hair and nails. What can you suggest for brides, and bridesmaids, looking to grow their hair for a wedding? Our Ginkgo Biloba B+ plan contains folic acid with essential B vitamins and biotin, but if you don’t suffer from tiredness, then the biotin haircare plan is great for maintenance. Alternatively, if you have no specific worries about hair loss, but want to feel the best version of yourself, taking no chances with stress, Skin Quencher is great too. These plans are also great for grooms concerned about hair loss. What are the benefits of a haircare plan versus a single supplement? I formulated the plans because I learnt from experience that most people’s concept of what’s healthy actually isn’t. Most of us will happily invest in skincare and clothes, but not in how we feel internally. I think of the plans as a three-step process, much like a garden. To grow beautiful flowers, you need sunlight, amazing soil, and water. So, the probiotics are the ultimate go to, but there’s no point if you’re a fan of microwave meals or Macdonald’s. Unless you cook from scratch, you’re throwing away the goodness you’re putting into the body with the probiotics. Pairing them with Super Greens and Ginkgo Biloba B+ or Biotin Brilliance is then all about preparing the gut, balancing the body and removing toxins, as well as making sure you create the best environment for vitamin and mineral absorption. The most important step though is water: filtered versus tap, glass bottle versus plastic. Purely because of what can be absorbed through plastic as well as unfortunately what’s in mainstream water that comes through the tap.
Tell us a bit about the company’s ethos. Supplements are a big industry, but they’ve often received bad press because the products simply don’t do what they claim to. So, these are all things we’ve addressed across everything we do from the ingredients to manufacturing. We make sure that every process has full certification, including soil association and vegan accreditation. We’ve worked hard to ensure our products are vegan and our marine collagen is protected and sourced ethically. Everything is sustainable as much as possible. When our bottles are finished with they get made into tiles and flooring, and the packaging too is eco-friendly. Even the energy used in my office is renewable. We’re proud of the fact that recently we were responsible for 25 trees being planted in the rainforest due to our renewable energy contract.
WANT TO KNOW MORE? Simone’s book, Healthy Hair Happy Body, contains her comprehensive and motivational plan to transform wellbeing from the inside out. In each chapter she introduces concepts that provide insight into how the body functions, and what really makes a difference to achieving optimum health, sharing how tiny adjustments over time can lead to better results. It’s available at www.amazon.co.uk, priced at £15, with £1 going to Motor Neurone Disease Association. The Biotin Haircare Plan, £70; The Ginkgo Haircare Plan, £70; and SkinQuencher, £35 by Simone Thomas Wellness, are all available at https://simonethomaswellness.com
When would be the ideal time to start taking supplements in order to feel wedding-ready? To me there’s never a day too early! Most couples will start planning a year to two years in advance, so why not use the same timeline 83

A FUN-FILLED SLEEPOVER FOR EIGHT GUESTS AT WHITLEY HALL, YORKSHIRE
W
hitley Hall Hotel may be among the North’s most historic and beautiful wedding venue hotels. This stunning Yorkshire stone mansion, where peacocks stroll in the grounds, boasts both Tudor and 18th-century origins – it’s rumoured that Mary, Queen of Scots was once a house guest in the West Wing! The two four-poster suites are particularly delightful for a romantic stay but each of the 32 rooms are superbly designed to complement the hotel’s rich and important history. With its new purpose-built Whitley Suite, offering state-of-the-art facilities, including a heated outdoor terrace, (capacity 110/160 guests), along with the original Parker Suite (capacity 110/175), Whitley Hall is perhaps one of the largest venues in the region. Its new exclusive ‘Secret Garden Folly’ is a real showstopper where you can exchange vows with a natural backdrop, or simply use this space for an outdoor drinks reception which can be spectacular come dusk and into the evening. There’s also the option to take over the whole hotel as an exclusiveuse venue (capacity 400) and there are semi-exclusive use options also available. Attention to detail, combined with a warm Yorkshire welcome, make a stay at this four-star hotel a real pleasure. The restaurant serves an array of mouth-watering dishes prepared with the very finest local produce. The hotel, which is close to the motorway yet benefits from the most tranquil rural setting, can be used as a handy base to explore the stunning Chatsworth House estate and its surrounding towns and villages
in the Peak District such as Bakewell, Eyam and Buxton; Sheffield and the shopping centre at Meadowhall are also popular attractions. Visit www.whitleyhall.com | www.instagram.com/whitleyhallhotel
