Launched in 2018 The Glass House is a beautiful venue in Lancashire, nestled in the picturesque rolling landscape of the Fylde countryside. Blending modern elegance with charm and romance this unique and neutralvenue can be transformed into your theme but also looks beautiful with minimal styling. Twinkling fairy lights, glittering crystal chandeliers, crisp modern lines and glass walls blend seamlessly with wooden beams and endless countryside views to capture the beautiful elegance of an English wedding. The Glass House is immediately impressive with a perfect layout for weddings with everything in one room that can be separated by glamorous mirrored bifold doors. The floor-to-ceiling windows and long bi-fold glass doors bring the outside inside offering all the benefits of an outdoor wedding with the comfort of a roof to shelter guests from unreliable British weather. A beautiful blank canvas in a spectacular setting yet close to the M55 and a short drive away from Blackpool, Poulton-Le-Fylde, Lytham, St Anne’s, Fleetwood and Preston. Dan Wootton Photography

All I want for Christmas is you C
an you believe it’s that time of year again? After everything we’ve all been through in the last two years, I think we all need to relax and what better time than Christmas/New Year? This festive season feels strange to me as it’s my last as a Miss. I’m getting married in July 2022, and the countdown is officially on. Everything is booked and I’m starting to get excited and nervous about the idea of walking down the aisle. I love writing about your weddings and sharing your stories with our wonderful region, and it’s given me some great ideas for my own big day and is helping keep my nerves in check! The December/January issue has always been my favourite, and we’ve gone all out to create an issue full of inspirational weddings, styled shoots, wedding dress ideas and fairytaleinspired venues. We’re always looking for weddings and shoots to feature, so please get in touch by email at melissab@kdmediapublishing.com or via our website www.yournorthwest.wedding/get-involved-real-wedding

DRINK IT ALL IN Newly rebranded Tipsy Tea in Greater Manchester has just won some Great Taste Awards. The company has been given a Double Gold Star for their Pink Peppercorn flavour drink and a Single Gold Star for their Spiced Chai flavour. To celebrate, the Tipsy Tea team are running a winter campaign to help promote the hot serve version of their drink under the hashtag #happywinter Hot Tipsy Tea makes for a delicious, simple-to-make equivalent to mulled wine and the Spiced Chai flavour in particular invitingly conjures up that cosy wintery feeling and is the ultimate winter warmer for winter weddings. Tipsy Tea also reflects the glamour and revelry of the speakeasies of 1920’s New York during the Prohibition. As drinking was outlawed, contraband liquor was often served in teacups and teapots to avoid detection. The fabulous 58th St Country Club was one of the finest hidden establishments doing this. The country club’s proprietor, Belle Livingstone, embodied the decadence and extravagance of the era and is the inspiration behind the company. To find out more, check out www.tipsytea.co.uk
DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY Hoghton Tower is welcoming back large weddings. With its rich history, oakpanelled halls, courtyards, magical gardens and amazing views, it provides the ideal location for nuptials. Elena Faroni, Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Hoghton Tower Preservation Trust, said: “It’s amazing to be able to welcome wedding couples and their guests back to Hoghton Tower. Over the years, the tower has seen many celebrations, and it’s great to see families partying with their friends in this beautiful setting once again. Interest in weddings for 2022, 2023 and beyond is high and, after the disruption of the last 18 months, we can’t wait to welcome these couples as they begin the journey to celebrate their own special day over the coming months and years.” Bespoke wedding options include exclusive use of Hoghton Tower, its two courtyards and three enchanting walled gardens. The property is fully licensed and has historic accommodation available for the bride and groom in the romantic Irishman’s Tower. Steeped in history and commanding breathtaking views across the county, Hoghton Tower is approached by a nearly mile-long straight drive. The Grade I listed building is the ancestral home of the de Hoghton family, who still live on the estate. The tower has been welcoming illustrious guests for more than 500 years; from kings and queens to JMW Turner, William Shakespeare, who is reputed to have acted as a tutor to the de Hoghton children and Charles Dickens, who wrote a short story based at Hoghton. A SPECIAL DISCOUNT Celebrants Cate and Nikki from Pink and Ginger Ceremonies in Lancashire were friends for 20 years before becoming business partners. They met working in Police Intelligence at Preston and hit it off immediately. Cate told us, “You need somebody to have your back in the police – and we were always there for each other.” Nikki agreed, “It’s a difficult job, and you see the worst side of life – as such, your colleagues become family because they are there with you through thick and thin.” Pink and Ginger Ceremonies are well known for their upbeat, friendly and personal service. They are bubbly, and their enthusiasm is infectious. “It’s our absolute privilege to be able to join people during what is often the most important day of their life,” says Nikki. “We aren’t happy with anything less than perfect and will persevere until we have created the perfect ceremony for our couples. Our emergency services deserve a day to remember, stress-free and one that makes their dreams come true – a day to escape from the day-to-day trauma of their job and escape into their own special fairytale.” To acknowledge the difficult times that all emergency services have been going through due to the pandemic, Pink and Ginger Ceremonies are offering couples who work in the emergency services 20 per cent off any ceremony booked for 2022. erity and Michael met in 2013 during a night out. “We had loads in common and realised we went to the same primary school and grew up near each other,” says Verity. “He was shy, but I was determined to get to know him. It was out of character for me to go up to someone I didn’t know, but he was so kind and gentle that I trusted him straight away. After chatting and dancing, I wrote my number on his arm as he had no phone or social media. A week later, he popped up on my phone and was worried I might have forgotten about him. Turns out he bought a new phone just to contact me, so he was a man of his word from day one. Our first date was at Frankie & Benny’s and the rest is history.” Michael popped the question on 17th December, 2018. “After years of dropping hints, I had given up, so the proposal was totally unexpected,” shares the bride. “Michael told me he wanted to propose at York’s Christmas market, but our car broke down, so we got the train to Manchester and visited a market there instead. As I was busy getting ready, Michael popped out, and it turned out he went to ask my dad for his permission which was very important to me. As soon as we got off the train, we stopped by the market and he asked me to marry him. We were so nervous and in shock, so we went to the Hard Rock Cafe for cocktails to celebrate and tell the news to our families.” Here the bride shares some of her favourite moments from their big day...
29
We wanted a relaxed venue that was close to our home. Charnock Farm was rustic, cosy and the staff were flexible with our ideas. We loved the beautiful, natural scenery and the pond full of ducks.
Our centrepieces were wooden logs with mini-floral tipis, macrame jars, easels with pictures of us and gin bottles filled with lights.
Fleur Designs provided my whimsical bouquet, and I made a macrame wrap that included a picture of my nan and aunty who are no longer with us. The team also made a top table arrangement and greenery for down the aisle. Michael and I made our decorations, including the chair bunting, boho macrame hoops for the ceiling, floral archway and centrepieces.
We decided to name our tables after our favourite films, games, music and places. 30
For the cake, we had a three-tier design made up of lemon, chocolate and vanilla sponge from Buttercream Cake Design. It was decorated with marbled details and topped with a gold moon cake topper.
REAL WEDDINGS
I wore a Stella York dress that I customised with 3D flowers and an Essense of Australia veil. I tried on so many designs, and when I saw my gown on the hanger I hated it, but my mum begged me to try it on. When I opened my eyes, I knew straight away it was the one and cried. I purchased my gown from Ava Rose Hamilton and got to meet Gok Wan at one of my fittings.
The bridesmaids’ dresses were lace floor-length gowns in pastel shades from Eve Boutique.
Charnock Farm provided the food. We had an Italian buffet and bacon and sausage barms in the evening.
To keep our guests entertained, we hired a live singer during the day, TK Leisure to DJ in the evening, a photo booth mirror from Exceed Events and a doughnut wall provided by Gemini Occasions.
Michael chose a grey slim fit suit with a grey tweed waistcoat and lilac tie from Slater Menswear.
We hired a Volkswagen Campervan from Chase the Sun. 31
Spending time with Michael in the Campervan, saying our vows, doing our first dance and our wedding party throwing amazing shapes were all memorable moments from the day.
While on the dancefloor, my best friend’s husband spun me around, and I tripped over the bottom of my dress and decked it on the floor. We were all in fits of laughter! Everyone ran to help except my new husband, who was dancing in his own world, clueless of the commotion.
For our honeymoon, we spent three nights in Manchester. We hired a cinema room, went in a balcony Jacuzzi and had meals out.
During the best man’s speech, the page boy let out a massive yawn stopping everyone in laughter. Poor James had to bring the speech back to his train of thought.
We were so happy that our day finally arrived. After three postponements and a whirlwind of a run-up, it was full of love and laughter.
Jen from Fleur Designs was a massive support from day one. She helped through all the postponements, with some of the décor, and she even assisted me in finding a new photographer the day before the wedding when my old one couldn’t make it. She was an absolute angel, and I know the day wouldn’t have been the same without her.

en and Jack met in high school. “We were in the same classes and became good friends when we both started attending a badminton club,” says Jen. “Over the next year, we grew closer, and that summer whilst on a family holiday, I used my one hour of internet allowance a day to message Jack. One day he confided in me that he liked someone and didn’t know what to do. I asked who it was, but he wouldn’t say. I went through all the girls in our year until he finally said ‘it’s you.’ That was when my internet time ran out! When we next spoke we agreed that we weren’t going to do anything about it as we didn’t want to ruin our friendship, so that was that. Six months later, Jack spontaneously held my hand, and I got butterflies. I didn’t know he still liked me as we’d not spoken about it since summer, nor had I told him that I’d developed feelings for him too. That night we spoke, and I said ‘let’s give it a go, and if it goes wrong, then we’ll pretend it never happened and stay friends.’ Well, it never went wrong, and 10 years on, we’re finally married.” Jack proposed during a trip to Iceland. “Our engagement was incredible,” shares the bride. “For as long as I can remember, I had wanted to see the Northern Lights, so for my 21st birthday present, Jack took us to Iceland. We went on a tour to see the lights, and when they finally appeared, I turned around to see Jack on one knee in the snow with the ring in his hand. Of course, I said yes, and it was the most surreal moment of my life. The whole thing was a complete shock to me but looking back there were so many hints that I don’t know how I didn’t guess.”
SETTING THE SCENE “Bartle Hall Country Hotel and Restaurant was the only venue that really stood out to us,” explains Jen. “The beautiful grounds, the main house and barn were all stunning, yet what sold it to us was the staff. They were so welcoming and made us feel completely at ease, and nothing was too much trouble for them.” Jen and Jack decided to have a wildflower theme. “Given the theme, I kept everything very natural using wood and greenery throughout with touches of white to brighten everything,” adds the bride. “The wooden memory ladder was white with eucalyptus, and the card box was a mini-greenhouse which I painted and put some fake greenery in the bottom.” “We chose not to have wedding favours, however, I created colouring books for the flowergirls, so they had something to do during the meal,” Jen recalls. “I also bought them teddies with their names on instead of flowers to carry down the aisle. I knew the girls would love these and could treasure them. They are affectionately named their hop-hops.” Jen and her father-in-law created the table plan and welcome sign. “He cut the wood to size and stained it,” reveals the bride. “I then painted the wording, attached the eucalyptus and created the seating chart, which I hung up with wooden pegs on brown strings.” “For the centrepieces, I wanted something simple, so we went with wood slices and gin bottles with eucalyptus stems inside with a dinner candle in the top,” says Jen. “I also created mini-easels to match the welcome sign with the table numbers on.” Heathers Creative Florist provided the flowers. “Our lovely friend, who I have known since we were four years old, runs the company and created the most amazing flowers for us,” shares the bride. “My bouquet included miss piggy roses, lavender and Craspedia. The bridesmaids had gypsophila, Matricaria and eucalyptus, which matched the groomsmen’s buttonholes. All the buttonholes were encased in shotgun cartridges as Jack is an avid clay pigeon shooter.” “I made the cake myself,” explains Jen. “The flavours were carrot and pecan, lemon and raspberry and chocolate and Biscoff. The decorations were white buttercream with hints of blush, gold leaf, eucalyptus and gypsophila.” Jen designed the table names using a template on Etsy. “I used this to create all the invitations, thank you cards, place names, table numbers and menus,” the bride adds. “To decorate the rest of the venue, we had a memory ladder with photos of our family who are sadly no longer with us. In the centre was a photo of my twin brother, Peter, who we lost last year. I wore an ashes-into-glass necklace, so he
35
was with me all day. My lovely friend and florist also gifted me a buttonhole to place next to his photo, so he had his own. We had a Polaroid camera alongside our guest book, so our friends and family could take their own photos and stick them next to their messages. This has been wonderful to look back on, and we would recommend this to everyone.”
DRESSED TO IMPRESS “I initially didn’t want a big dress, but I ended up wearing the biggest one I tried on,” laughs Jen. “It was such a romantic, floaty design that was fun to twirl in. My very talented auntie used pearls and Swarovski crystals to create a hair vine and comb that looked beautiful.” Jack and the groomsmen wore different outfits. “We weren’t too bothered about everyone wearing the same as we just wanted them to be comfortable,” recalls the bride. “Jack chose a three-piece blue tweed suit with an orange tie from Marc Darcy. The best men’s suits included hints of pink in their outfits which matched the bridesmaids.” “The bridesmaids are all so different, so I didn’t want to make them wear the same outfit,” says Jen. “I found multi-way dresses from Roman in a beautiful blush colour which matched the theme perfectly. This meant they could all wear the gowns in whichever style they wanted.”
TIME TO CELEBRATE “We had a live music duo called Ryan and Craig who were just fantastic,” shares the bride. “There are no words to describe their performance. They were so talented, funny and completely brilliant. Those of us who had seen them before knew what we were letting ourselves in for, however, those who hadn’t were completely blown away.”
MEMORABLE MOMENTS “We felt completely overwhelmed, incredibly lucky and also relieved that we finally managed to pull it off,” explains Jen. “After postponing our wedding from last year, we weren’t sure if it was ever going to happen. It was only seven weeks before the date that we found out we could go ahead! Saying ‘I do’ didn’t feel real. At the end of the evening, I went around with a camera and took photos of everyone enjoying themselves. I’m so pleased I did this as it gave me the chance to sit back and see our loved ones having a good time.” The happy couple had the perfect wedding thanks to their family and suppliers. “My uncle, Adrian, performed a reading for us, which was incredibly special,” adds Jen. “Our parents were really generous, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Our wedding parties were such a big part of the day, and we’re so lucky to call them our friends and family. Sonara Parker Makeup Artist also went above and beyond. I have nicknamed her my fairy godmother as she had solutions to any problems that occurred and had her Mary Poppins bag stocked with everything we might have forgotten. Victoria Louise Hair really saved the day! Six days before the wedding, my hairdresser told me she had to isolate, so I had to find someone else to do my hair. After a few shares of my Facebook post asking for recommendations, I received a message from Victoria saying she was available for the day. Within 12 hours, I was in her chair having my trial. She was an absolute star, and all the ladies were over the moon with their hair on the day. Our photographer, Christina from Fish 2 Photography, was also fantastic. Everyone commented on how she worked throughout the day and adapted to the rain. The photos are stunning, and I can’t wait to have them on our wall.”

County Wedding Magazines editor Melissa Barker shares her wedding planning journey
READY, SET, POSE!

www.chrisblackledg ephotography.co.uk
Dave and I were unsure if we wanted to book a pre-wedding shoot as we don’t like our picture being taken and can be quite awkward in front of the camera. I spoke to a few of our married friends and they all recommended booking a shoot, so we decided to go for it. As we got engaged during the last lockdown, we had only met our photographer once over Skype, so we felt the shoot would also be a good way of getting to know him better ready for our big day. We’d arranged to meet on a beach in Kent, and as I’m sure you can tell from the pictures, it was extremely blustery and cold, so much so we were convinced we would appear blue
in the final shots! Although it wasn’t the perfect weather conditions, the combination of our windswept appearence – my hair must have looked like Medusa – onlookers and relaxed nature of our photographer made the shoot fun! I was very nervous beforehand, changing my outfit 10 times much to Dave’s annoyance, but once we were there we both felt at ease and had a great time. If you’re debating booking a shoot, I’d highly recommend it.
ACCESSORISE AND SHINE Wedding planning has been pretty straightforward overall, but when it came to choosing my accessories, I felt very overwhelmed. I wouldn’t describe myself as particularly girly, but I wanted something that would make me look beautiful on the day without being overpowering. After hours of shopping, I surprised myself by discovering I have a hidden love for pearls, so when I came across a pearl and floral hair clip, I just knew that I had to have it! I’m planning to finish my look with a pair of pearl earrings and a pendant necklace. My shoes have also been difficult. I’m 5ft 2ins and Dave is more than 6ft tall, so I was debating whether to wear heels to make the height difference less apparent. All the heels that I loved were really expensive and I was beginning to have nightmares about falling over as I walked down the aisle – I’m not the most gracious person even in flats! So, after looking at countless websites and going into what feels like every shoe shop in Essex, I finally decided to embrace my height and purchased a pair of glittery trainers with satin laces from Kate Spade. Although different to what I had orginally envisaged, I think the look suits my dress and it’s made me feel more relaxed knowing I won’t be going to A&E on the big day. Lastly, Dave and I went ring shopping – a traditonal wedding element we still wanted
for our nuptials. When we arrived at the jewellers, which was the same branch that Dave purchased my engagement ring from, I was pleasantly surprised to learn they had a matching wedding ring that I, of course, had to have. Luckily we are months ahead of our wedding, however we were made aware that some ring designs can take up to four months to arrive in the store – take note readers that are planning last-minute ‘I dos’! Dave never wears jewellery, so he was unsure of what style he wanted and all of the different types of metal and cuts were quite overwhelming for him. After doing some research and asking our friends for their opinions, he decided on a plain platinum band that looks great. Make sure you check out the next issue where I’ll be discussing our search for the perfect entertainment.

his year has flown by, can you believe it’s nearly Christmas? It’s starting to dawn on me that this is my last as a Miss – eek – and July will creep around quickly so the countdown is officially on! My fiancé, Dave, and I have booked most of our suppliers including the venue, photographer and florist and I’ve even found my dress – but there’s still plenty to do! We’re getting really excited as the day draws closer, and the more I write about all of your beautiful weddings, the more real it seems that we will have our very own wedding day. In this issue, read all about our pre-wedding shoot and my search for the perfect accessories.

Here’s my moodboard to help give you heaps of inspiration.
BRIDE’S DIARY
We’ve ordered wooden cutouts of our guests’ names to be used as place names. They look really cute and double up as favours.
Originally, we didn’t want light-up letters, but after seeing a set-up at one of our venue’s wedding shows, we loved the look and have hired them.
Dave and I have purchased an oak direction sign that will greet our guests as they enter our venue.
Although I was against the idea of wearing a veil, I tried one on with my dress and fell in love.
We came across a local company that creates personalised cake toppers, so we’ve decided to order one with figures of us and our cat.
Our venue offers guests a choice of ribbons when they enter the venue, pink if they want people to keep their distance, green if they’re comfortable to shake hands and blue if they are happy to hug. I think it’s a great way of making sure that everyone feels happy and safe on the day.
We’re planning to buy personalised cufflinks for Dave and his best man.
I love this buttonhole wrapped in twine and am going to ask our florist if she can do the same.
For our tables, we’re purchased concrete planters that are shaped like characters from our favourite films and tv shows to add a personal touch to the day. 55

A talented team of suppliers worked together to create two different looks at Calthwaite Hall Images courtesy of Kevin Brown Photography
T
his styled shoot shows how to create two different themes. The organiser, Jacinta Cooper from Simply Koko Bridal, tells us more: “As soon as I arrived at Calthwaite Hall, I was taken aback by the stunning hall, gardens and newly built conservatory. Our first theme was a formal, rich look. I worked closely with Flowers by Valerie Jayne to express the beauty and diversity of the venue, from the wild garlic growing in the grounds to the almost Gothic building that had been added to over time. After careful preparation by Hairstyles by Adry and The InstaGlammer, the couple went on to have a jewellery consultation, which took place in the formal dining room with Desert Diamonds North/UK. I wanted to dress the bride in a feminine ballgown, with a long elegant veil that could be used as a prop by our fabulous photographers Kevin and Carol. The groom looked handsome in his grey silk morning suit, chosen by the team at Tie the Knot 007. The cake
designed by Lucie’s Cake Co fitted perfectly in the spiral of the staircase, with a beautiful candle ceremony performed in the hall by ‘I Do’ Your Ceremony. Our event dresser, Roses & Hearts Boutique Events, did such a fabulous job of adding those all-important touches such as dressing the chairs and the tables from DTL Marquee Hire and complementing the stationery designed by White Orchid Print And Design.” “We also wanted to showcase a boho theme,” shares Jacinta. “We dressed the garden with some props, but it didn’t need too many as the grounds already have so much to offer. It was magical to hear AnnaKate Pearson Harpist play in the background as the couple enjoyed the outside space. I loved working with every supplier, and I would like to thank them for all their hard work, as no one person could pull off such a complex shoot without the expertise and support of them all.” 57

EXPERT ADVICE
HOT TOPIC:
wedding worries
THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR Q – How can we incorporate our Christmas theme into our wedding?
Deanna Melia | Wedding planner www.yourforeverafter.co.uk
Our experts solve your problems
UNDER THE MISTLETOE
www.simedlicott.co.uk
There are companies out there that create snow confetti, which is made from natural ingredients, so it washes away with the rain and is not harmful to the environment. In addition to this, using lots of frosted greenery and wine red flowers is a great way to incorporate a festive theme. For your centrepieces use circular slates of wood with frosted holly on top with a candle in frosted glass. Moreover, you could frame the altar with fern trees covered in warm lights. Make the meal the centre of attention with a wreath around each plate. Use accents like ornaments, ribbon and greenery or frost on your invitations. In terms of catering, go for a chocolate log or Christmas pudding and include turkey in your food. Hot chocolate and throws are great gifts that can double up as favours. You could also gift people Christmas decorations if a throw is out of budget - it’s something they can use, and it will represent your big day too.
Q – We’re having a festivethemed wedding and would l ove to incorporate the time of year into our entertainment without it being over the top. Do you have any ideas?
Discuss your ideas with your supplier and choose which Christmas songs they perform. Most entertainers will be happy to sprinkle a couple of festive classics into their performance, and you can work together to pick the least cheesy ones that you’d like to hear. Dropping a classic like Last Christmas into your evening reception will get everyone in the celebratory mood. Becky Chamberlain | Musician www.beckyandjoshduo.com
IT’S PARTY TIME Q – I’m overwhelmed by the number of DJs available. What questions should we ask a supplier to help narrow down our search? Before booking, ask yourself are they reliable? Have they ever failed to turn up or cancelled on anyone? Will they personalise your show to suit your requirements? It’s your wedding, and your supplier should be there to support you. They will advise you, and nothing should be too much trouble for them. What equipment do they provide for a full set up and are they insured? Their equipment should
regularly be added to and updated. Ours includes a full sound system, laser lights, LEDs, uplighting and a smoke machine. It needs to be PAT tested yearly by qualified electricians who can provide a copy of the certificate if needed. What music do they provide? We have 1000s of digital tracks from as far back as the 1950s until the present day. Your DJ should cover a wide range of genres and provide a playlist that can be downloaded in advance. Will they be dressed appropriately? They should dress smartly after all your guests make an effort, so why shouldn’t they? Mick Yeadon | DJ www.micksdiscofever.co.uk 61
PRETTY AS A PICTURE Q – My wife-to-be and I would love someone to live paint our wedding. What should we expect? As a live painter, I enter the breakfast room two hours before your guests go in and paint the room. Then after you and your guests settle, I have as long as the meal takes to capture the scene. Three courses are ideal. It’s a great talking point as guests can come over, ask me questions and spot each other in the painting. As I finish, I often ask well-behaved children or guests to draw a glass or cutlery, which is a great photo opportunity. If there is someone who sadly can’t be there, I can even represent them with a symbol. When I’m done, I sign and leave it on display for everyone to admire. Stuart Barkley | Live painter www.stuartbarkley.co.uk
SNOW IS FALLING Q – How can we incorporate our winter wonderland theme into our wedding flowers? There are lots of ways to incorporate your theme into your wedding flowers. Go for seasonal options and choose blooms and foliage that are in keeping with the time of year. Opt for a green and white colour palette with a touch of blue. Use twigs like curly willow, pine cones and berries for texture. Eucalyptus is in abundance, so you can use lots of different types along with beautiful anemones, ranunculus and hellebores. Incorporate thistles and viburnum berries to bring through those gorgeous blue tones. I also suggest using velvet for your bridal ribbons as it gives an added element of luxury. Christmas trees work brilliantly at an entrance and help fill a space. Thinking about wreaths? Have them hanging from the ceiling and add in candlelight and fairlylights to create a magical setting. Jemma Khan | Florist www.foragefloristry.co.uk
Wet weather doesn’t have to ruin your day. There are usually breaks in the rain, so you can go outside to take some photographs. The lighting can make for some spectacular imagery since everything is glistening and saturated with colour. Grey skies and a break in the clouds can create dynamic natural backdrops, and where there’s rain, there are often rainbows too! Sheltered areas such as doorways, arches, and trees are good places if you want to remain drier and avoid harsh winds. If you’re feeling brave, it’s worth grabbing an umbrella and some wellies and embracing the elements! Wear a warm winter cape and other seasonal accessories. Large group photos might need a backup plan if the weather is particularly harsh, these can be taken in a marquee, a different building or in an indoor area. Be creative with the available space. Whatever the weather, it will be a wonderful part of your wedding story, so keep smiling and enjoy your special day!

Founder and creative director, Megan Ziems, tells us, “We were inspired to take materials that would have been otherwise discarded and use modern technology to create a beautiful wedding gown that holds so much meaning.” She continues, “The way the dress hugs and supports the body is flawless. The cup shape and wide straps are perfect for small and large busts, the split on the thigh is elongating, the pearlescent threading is visually flattering and the sheer lace panel on the lower back adds drama.” Launching alongside the gown is the Lumi veil retailing at £390 and crafted from 100% recycled tulle and lace. We chat to model, television presenter and radio DJ Vogue Williams about her latest venture, Vogue x ROCO, a recently launched collaboration with online children’s formalwear brand ROCO which is her first collection
V
ogue is best known for her presenting roles across mainstream broadcast platforms such as Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch and Global Player podcast Spencer & Vogue as well as the newly released My Therapist Ghosted Me. Over the past year, Vogue has also landed a weekend show on Heart radio and has previously fronted her popular reality shows on Channel 4 - Spencer, Vogue and Baby Too and Spencer, Vogue and Wedding Two with husband, Spencer Matthews. Regularly showcasing candid family life to her 855k Instagram followers, Vogue is mum to Theodore and Gigi, both of whom inspired the collection with this British brand and have hero items named after them. How would you summarise your ROCO edit? This hand-picked edit of high-quality pieces has been two years in the making. I wanted the 15 stylish looks to be affordable, comfortable and easy for children to wear, so the collection offers a contemporary twist on classic styles for party dressing with trend-led silhouettes available in ice-cream pastel hues offering the perfect fit, designed to make special occasions unforgettable. 88
Who is the collection for? It’s aimed at little ones aged from three months to 14 years. There are cute cotton-mix and linen-style blend dresses, two-piece outfits and suits ideal for celebrations, parties and dressing flowergirls, junior bridesmaids and pageboys at weddings.
How did you find the design process? Did you have a favourite part? I loved working with Laura (Latif, creative director of ROCO) and the team. I’ve always wanted to create my own children’s wear line so to see the pieces evolve from the initial design meeting is so exciting. I immersed myself

in the creative process from start to finish, from designing the items to deciding on the colour palettes and finer details. The team were so easy to work with and it has been so much fun – a dream come true! If you had to choose, what’s your favourite piece from the collection? I love them all! The Margaux pink skirt and white top combination with a statement bow at the back looks so pretty.
It’s your little girl’s birthday party, what ROCO dress would you choose and why? I named the pink ruffle-neck Gigi babygrow after my daughter so it would have to be this! To shop, visit www.roco.co.uk You’ve got a summer wedding coming up, which ROCO outfit for a boy would you suggest and why? The Theodore blue-check dungarees are so smart teamed with a short-sleeved shirt! I named them after my son.

LIGHT AND SHADE
A new addition to the Lush range of perfumes, Shade offers a burst of warmth with comforting sandalwood. A fragrance with a conscience, each essential oil has its own story to tell including sandalwood from West Timor, which is extracted from protected and sustainable trees. It’s also made using a new source of olibanum oil from the Dayaxa region in Somaliland. It has full traceability down to the harvester level, with every step of the process being mapped on blockchain. In fact, Lush is working with its supplier to kickstart a project to train local women in small-scale olibanum oil distillation, a first in the community. Find it online at www.lush.com, where it’s priced at £25 for 30ml.
FEEL FLAWLESS
Speak to any wedding make-up artist and they’ll most likely tell you that primer is a must, which is why I wanted to share with you my latest discovery: Super Facialist Skin Perfecting Primer (£17). This little beauty creates a flawless-looking complexion using trusted skincare ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, and colour-correcting pigments. It cleverly blurs imperfections by counteracting the three most common concerns of redness, sallowness and dullness, while simultaneously working to bring back skin’s natural radiance. BACK TO ITS ROOTS
Molton Brown was born in the 1970s as a hair salon based in the heart of London’s shopping district on South Molton Street, which was frequented by the Rolling Stones and many other icons of the day. Creators Caroline Bernstein and her husband would hand mix all formulations in the basement, with conscious care for the environment at the forefront of the brand’s values even then. Now, on the brand’s 50th anniversary it has re-introduced hair care to its range. The collection contains four tailored collections, each with a botanical at the core of its formulation: balancing, volumising, hydrating and repairing. This approach means you can strategically build a healthy-hair routine into your big-day prep depending on the needs of your locks. Check out www.moltonbrown.co.uk

EDITOR LOVES
In my humble opinion Kristin Ess The One Signature Shampoo and The One Signature Conditioner are nothing short of miraculous! I won’t lie, my hair was in an embarrassing state when I decided to give these a go. I’d been swimming three days on the bounce – down water slides, through rapids, the works! My locks were a huge matted, straw-like mess. But with just one application the shampoo lathered like a dream and after leaving the conditioner in for the recommended three minutes, even wet my hair started to feel less knotty. I usually dread having to drag the brush through my hair after I’ve washed it, but in no time flat it was knot-free, smooth and ready to dry. Shiny, soft and looking their best, the state of my locks pre-Kristin Ess were a distant memory. This is definitely my new favourite hair routine and at £8 each they won’t break the bank. My advice? Head over to www.boots.com and pop them in your basket immediately!
NATURE’S HARVEST
When Estée Lauder created Youth-Dew bath oil in 1953, she revolutionised the fragrance industry and 75 years later, the brand is carrying on her legacy with the introduction of a new luxury fragrance collection. Each of the eight scents is inspired by nature’s most breathtaking moments such as the radiance of a sunset and the mystery of a moonlit flower. What’s more, Estée Lauder’s new ScentCapture Fragrance Extender technology is specially formulated to allow each perfume to last up to 12 hours after a single application – that should get you from vows to dancefloor no problem. The new Luxury Fragrance Collection (£130 100ml, £68 40ml) is available at Estée Lauder counters nationwide and at www.esteelauder.co.uk
THE EYES HAVE IT
READY OR KNOT
The Detangling Mist is the newest product in The Hair Boss’ award-winning range. The brand, founded by Lisa Shepherd, former British Hairdresser of the Year, simplifies hair care into a four-step routine, and this newbie fits tidily into part three. With life getting busier by the second, this is the quick, on-the-go answer to dry, unruly hair. Targeted to fix frizzy and damaged locks, it’s designed to smooth and strengthen, while protecting your hair and preventing breakage. Lisa says, “In between washes, The Detangling Mist will soften the hair, taming any unruly knots and re-adding the shine that it’s lost since the last wash.” Priced at £8.99, it’s available at https://thehairboss.co.uk
They say the eyes are the window to the soul, so they’re for sure a feature to make the most of on the big day. For those looking for longer lashes and full brows, The B Collection has launched its Lash & Brow Serum (£8.99). This all-natural, vegan, cruelty-free product nourishes and stimulates growth in these two key areas for eyes that’ll pop as you say “I do.” Use every night before bed following your usual skincare routine and wash off in the morning – super-easy. You can also use it during the day to set your brows in place. We love anything with a dual purpose! Find it at https://thebcollection.co.uk 91

Q&A
Local experts offer advice on how to look your big-day best
BEAUTY QUEEN Q – What questions should I ask a make-up artist before booking?
92
ESPECIALLY FOR YOU
Before booking, you should see examples of their past work to ensure that you like their particular style. Ask for links to their work, these are usually made available via Instagram, Facebook or their website. Check if they specialise in weddings. The term make-up artist is broad and covers a wide variety of sectors, therefore skill sets can vary significantly. If travelling to a salon is not part of your plan, then you need to ensure you select a supplier who can travel to you. This is usually more relaxing and eliminates the chance of your look getting spoiled outside in the elements. Ask how long the application is likely to take. If you have a large bridal party, you could ask your artist to bring along another person, so the start times won’t have to be quite as early. Find out how many bookings your supplier takes per day. Most professionals will only take on one bridal party so that you will receive their full undivided attention. The last thing you want is for them to have to dash off to another booking. Weddings can be expensive, therefore you need to plan accordingly and check that there will be no unexpected costs. Check if eyelashes or airbrush application is included in the cost. In addition, find out what the travel cost will be and how it’s calculated.
Q – I’m thinking of ordering a bespoke wedding dress. How does the process work, and what should I expect?
Anna-May Ball Make-up artist www.annamaymua.co.uk
Daniel Chu Bespoke bridal designer/dressmaker www.danielchu.co.uk
www.emilyrobinsonphotography.co.uk
When you order a bespoke wedding dress, you’re signing up for a personal service that will be tailored specifically to you. Bespoke is often seen as prestigious and out of reach for many, but don’t be afraid to ask for a quote. Calculate your budget, and you may realise down the line going bespoke is a similar cost to ordering a gown and paying extra for alterations. The initial price tag of your made-to-order design may seem more expensive but do keep in mind that all alteration and fitting costs are typically included. With most dressmakers, you’ll be required to book an initial consultation. Take this opportunity to discuss your budget and prepare some inspirational pictures or a moodboard. We love to see your vision, style and vibe for your wedding day. Experienced consultants will be able to pick out key features from your inspirations, show you fabrics, laces and trimmings, and design something with you that will suit your body shape and hide any any self-conscious areas. Once you have your gown designed, a deposit is usually taken to secure your order. You will be measured up for a sample dress and go through your first major fitting. The remainder of your appointments will be booked in to suit your schedule until the gown is ready for collection. Remember not to be shy and tell your supplier about any changes you want to make as soon as possible. This will avoid delays and potential costly alterations, especially when it’s near completion. Last but not least, it’s highly recommended you book your consultation at least 12 months before your wedding date, anything less could incur additional rush fees.

HONEYMOONS
Island hopping
Not only will honeymooners looking for a short-haul destination be encapsulated with the historical culture of Athens, but Greece is ideal for those in need of some R&R post-vows too. Whether you’re after quiet reflection in a small deluxe hotel before another hop for cultural immersion, or perhaps you want to learn a new skill like sailing or scuba diving, Olympic Holidays’ bespoke island-hopping itineraries offer something for everyone. With tailor-made itineraries offering accommodation across a range of price points, including hotel and interisland transfers, its knowledgeable team are on hand to recommend the best destinations and create bespoke cultural trips, holidays and gourmet getaways. Destinations include the Saronic Islands (Poros, Spetses and Aegina), Dodecanese (Rhodes, Halki, Kalymnos, Leros, Tilos, Symi and Kos), which are delightfully different and easily connected by ferries and catamarans. Cyclades (Santorini, Naxos, Andros, Paros, Tinos and Mykonos) where each island has its own strong identity, so island hopping brings with it new customs, significantly different landscapes and everything for peaceful days to lively nights. The Sporades (Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos) with their fantastic beaches, crystal clear sea and lush green forests, and Ionian (Corfu, Paxos, Ithaka, Kefalonia & Zante), home to caves and lakes, ancient ruins and windsurfing hotspots plus five-star hotels with Michelin-star cuisine. Crete can also be combined with both the Cyclades and Dodecanese Islands. ITINERARY INSPIRATION A romantic lustre adds sparkle to the marvellous Sporades Islands.
Legend has it that one island was created by the love child of gods. Now two islands are the focus of one of the 21st-century’s most successful romantic movies, Mamma Mia. Skiathos: Just 12-miles long but with more than 60 beaches, gorgeous Skiathos Town has shady tavernas on a busy waterfront. The narrow streets of the bustling old town are crammed with shops, cafes and bars. You can climb Medieval castles, stroll through forests, discover quiet sandy beaches and even take a rescued dog for a walk. Skopelos: Next stop, scenic Skopelos. Look out for dolphins before you sail into a harbour that is backed by a hillside covered in white houses with terracotta roofs. Tree-filled Skopelos has forests, and orchards and several beaches can be reached easily by bus or hired vehicles and many more beaches are waiting to be found in bays and coves. Alonissos: A gem for those wanting to get away from it all. You feel the sense of calm as you sail into elegant Patitiri, the small town and main port. Some beaches have bright white pebbles or sand creating a vivid contrast with the turquoise sea. Many are surrounded by pine forests that cover much of the island. Alonissos is in Europe’s largest marine park which protects monk seals and dolphins. It has a rescue centre for baby seals ‒ try to fit in a boat trip around the park! MORE ABOUT OLYMPIC HOLIDAYS...
