The Veritas (Fall '22)

The Veritas COVENANTCHRISTIAN

Editor'sNote

The Veritas staff chose to focus on the school's yearly theme of joy. The theme was elaborated in assembly by our speakers who applied the definition as a sort of “spiritual happiness” rather than a temporary happiness. We also want to shout out the students involved in the school. Our students have been doing very well in branching out and include new coming freshmen and transfers into our school. With that being said, we want to cultivate more long lasting joy in our school. We also want to reflect on our past and how far we have come as a school. With the clubs and sports sections, we are hoping to draw more attention to extracurriculars. The clubs and teams are always looking for new members. Lots of kids find joy in building relationships through extracurriculars. Strong relationships create a comfortable environment where people are able to share ideas, jokes and stories without fear of being ignored. The goal of this Veritas is to bring together the classes and create joy among the student body.

Theater

This past weekend, Covenant Theater presented the Fall Double Feature. Act One, Bad Ideas for Bad Television Shows, is a comedy and Act 2, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, is a drama based on the children’s book of the same name. Edward Tulane was performed at Barnes and Noble the first weekend of September.

What Makes Covenant Theater So Special?

Bad Ideas cast member Saige Coleman ('23) said that there is no such thing as a small role in theater because all roles are equally important.

Edward Tulane cast member Ellie Burns ('23) said that Covenant Theater is so special because of the people. "Just the community, how Christ is the center of everything and there's no competition. It's just be yourself and have fun. Nice and simple."

Running crew member Sofia Stowers said that people are open and inviting. As a new junior, freshman came up and said "Hi" to her.

Favorite Behind the Scenes Moments

Design Manager Reagan Conger ('23) said that her favorite moment was "seeing David in his panda suit for the first time. Just seeing him waddle down the hallway in that costume, is incredible and every time he's on stage with that costume, it's just hilarious to watch."

Stage Manager Jayden Hawkins ('23) said that one of her favorite parts was, "the transition music for 'Don't Date My Mom', when Johnathan walked in. It was this Bachelorette music. The first time I heard it, I was dying laughing."

Edward Tulane cast member Elijah Fosnot ('23) said that his favorite moment was when the cast would dance around during the transition music for Bad Ideas

Tech Manager/Sound Designer Zach Duigou ('23) said that he enjoyed "designing different scenes as far as sound goes. Listening to a bunch of strange sounds has been enjoyable."

Covenant Warrior athletics is a major part of what connects the student body with each other and allows us to grow as servants in Christ. From football games with fun themes or close soccer games that go down to the wire in conference play there is always something going on to bring Covenant together But there is a standard to which these student athletes must live up to There goal is to be a Christ like example both on and off the field Working on balancing schoolwork and sports is tough, but it allows them to grow as people and teaches them life skills for the future

All the athletes I talked with had the collective trait that Covenant Athletics is challenging and rewarding all in one. Warrior Athletics prepares you for life beyond Covenant on another level compared to other schools. It helped them grow as people and build friendships that benefited them during their time here and beyond

What is the Culture around Covenant Athletics?

Track runner Aaron Manning ('23) talked about the team culture as " a close-knit group of people who are fun to be around and are dedicated to work hard and get better every day."

How do students manage to balance homework and sports?

Soccer player Ayli McNeil ('24) said that " through sports, I was able to make some of my best friends, and it really helped me get through the stress of school. I was able to talk with people about my problems and feel safe doing it, and it really helped me."

What do students gain from being a student athlete at Covenant?

Soccer player Caleb McCrory ('25) said that "As a sophomore and freshman, I had to learn how to navigate through sports and homework is new ways. Covenant does a great job of challenging student in that way, but also helping us find ways to manage it all and teach us important time management skills for life beyond Covenant."

Artist Spotlight

“And He has filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom and understanding, in knowledge and all manner of workmanship, to design artistic works…and to work in all manner of artistic workmanship.” Exodus 35:31-33 NKJV

The work of art shown to the right was made by Ellie Burns, a current senior at Covenant. Using her favorite color scheme and technique, this design came to life. During the composition of the piece, she had one goal in mind: to create something “peaceful” and “easy to look at.” The feeling of gentleness and the encouragement from her family to “go with the flow” inspired her to add the ripple of waves. Here and there a sharp edge juts out. This formation reminds her that “life can be smooth, although every once in a while there’s a bumpy part. But that’s what adds to the beauty of it.”

Addie Sole ('24)

This student is an outstanding example of artist growth. Throughout her years of experimenting with art styles, she has personally felt the most growth in face sketches. Along with that, intricacy and line incorporation have grown to be a common part of her artwork. She finds the most pleasure in drawing whimsical things, and normally tries to include vibrant colors. Her only advice is to “not give up and just have fun. Don’t let art become a task.”

Introducing: Mrs. Moneymaker

Mrs. Moneymaker recently joined the Covenant family as our new art/graphic design teacher. She graduated from Anderson University (2002) with a degree in graphic design. For 14 years she has been teaching students. Graphic designing and wedding/professional photography are just a few of the other careers she's had. A color scheme of orange and blue is sure to get her attention, along with the color turquoise.

Words of Wisdom: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5 6) This verse has helped “paved the way for her decisions.”

Robotics

Covenant Warriors Robotics is back again, coming off of an excellent performance at World's. Covenant's stellar performance lead to our 7368W team making it to the first round of eliminations, in the same division as the overall champions! The team is already hard at work to once again reach the summit of high school robotics, but first they have to perform well against the local teams in both the Regional match at Speedway, as well as the State match in the Lucas Oil Stadium. The teams are confident that they can perform well, and are expecting a repeat performance this year, if not better. Come watch your Warriors in robotics dominate the local competitions!
