Working & Playing Outside
Drink water. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke is a serious risk for those who work outdoors. Even better than this catch was quality time spent with family. West Texas Operator 2 Carlos Rodrigez enjoys the moment with son, River, on Falcon Lake in Zapata, Texas.
Wear a broad spectrum sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 15.
Traveling
Check the backseat
Always check the vehicle for passengers and pets after parking. Never leave a child in a car unattended for any amount of time.
Pools, lakes, ocean, hot tubs
Drowning is the leading injury-related cause of death for children ages 1-4. Never leave children alone in or near the water.
Boating
Wear a life jacket every time you or loved ones are boating. West Texas District Manager Jarrod Carlton and wife Jeri had a busy May celebrating their daughter’s graduations from high school and college.

As I reflect on the past 5 plus years of my time at Covenant, I’m astonished at just how far we’ve come; from humble beginnings, into one of the largest Well Flow Management Companies in the country. A lot has changed since Covenant first opened its doors, and I believe that our ability to quickly change and adapt as a company has been a big part of our success. Change is constant, and for many people including myself, it’s also one of the hardest things to deal with. Change forces us out of our comfort zones and into trying something different and new. New can be scary, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. Change allows us to move forward, looking ahead and trying new ideas. Change pushes us to become better than we are. I truly believe how one deals with change is a big part of their success in life. Those stuck in the past, wishing things were “the way they used to be” miss out on all the great new opportunities in front of them. As Best-Selling Author John C. Maxwell once said “Change is inevitable. Growth is optional.” We rarely choose what happens to us each day, but we do get to choose how we react to it. Change may be the one constant as we move forward into our next six years. With new challenges and threats to our industry, both political, and environmental, our ability to adapt not only personally, but as a company in whole will have a major impact on our future. I encourage each of you to embrace the inevitable change that comes with life and use it to grow as a person.

Jesus served as a spotter for a water hauler to reverse, and the client took notice of his willingness to jump in, help others and be part of the team. Every act is important and makes a difference in safety. Actions like this make a difference and are recognized for a job well done.
Well done! Keep up the good work Jesus!
Chris Parker: SHOP MANAGER, SOUTHERN DIVISION - Sibley Chris has taken on a variety of tasks and worn many different hats. From cleaning up all of our DOT files and straightening up the process in which we receive, inspect, document, and repair our equipment that comes in from the field, to organizing the entire yard by implementing new policies and procedures, Chris has worked hard to streamline our systems. He positioned key personnel in the areas that needed the most attention. He’s no 9 to 5 guy either, he works hard to get the job done without hesitation. Chris has been and will continue to be an invaluable asset to the team and organization in Sibley.
Thank you C hris for all you have done! We are looking forward to seeing what the future has in store for you at Covenant.

SITUATIONAL A WARENESS by Mike Joacim, Director of Engineering Solutions Recently at a gas station in Midland, a couple of bad guys chose Mike Joacim as a would be target for a robbery. Mike’s history as a military operator allowed him to control the situation which led to the arrest of these thieves. This incident happened at a place many of us visit or drive by on a regular basis, so we asked Mike to give us some training on Situational Awareness. In a world where people are dramatically more distracted than ever, there are individuals who have trained themselves to capitalize on that fact...criminals and bad guys. One of the most common places people are highly exposed to threats on a regular basis is the gas station...a place that most people usually go. This is also a place where a set of practices can help reduce exposure to threats. Being aware of your surroundings is a powerful defense and deterrent. For example, if your vehicle’s gas filler door is on the driver side, that side of the car will be facing the pump. In that scenario, you can also ensure the opposite side doors remain locked. This creates a barrier between a would-be threat and the interior of the vehicle (where children may be). Along with that, position the vehicle so you can open the driver door to a point where a person can’t fit between the open door and the gas pump or some other immovable fixture. If the vehicle is equipped with a rear door and there are no occupants in the vehicle, open the rear door as well with the same purpose in mind. You now have physical barriers between you and a would-be threat. If you happen to be gun owner, now is an appropriate time to ensure it’s well within your reach. Should you need it, the element of surprise is always an excellent tactic. The real lesson is to first and foremost BE AWARE! Note the positioning and location of security cameras, and whenever possible remain in their view. To avoid a situation, a plan of egress eliminates the need to defend yourself. I never recommend any person make the decision to engage a threat if egress is an option. It’s simply not worth the risk unless lives are in danger. Bad guys are clever, but rarely smart, and they typically give up easily. They also love easy targets. If they notice that someone has noticed them and appears to be aware, head on a swivel, body posture that indicates readiness and the ability to react, bad guys typically move on and look for an easier target. This is the lesson. Stay ahead of the threat, fight distraction, think ahead about the environment you’re entering and who’s there. Stay aware and stay vigilant.

Incredibly, between these six managers, they had 98 years of oilfield experience. Unanimously they shared why they have chosen to commit to Covenant longterm: The brotherhood is set apart from the rest. MIKE JOACIM Mike is Director of Engineering Solutions for Covenant. AS An experienced mechanical engineer, Mike joined the Covenant team in 2018 from Weatherford’s global offshore well testing division where he worked on platforms including Noble Energy’s noteworthy Tamar and Leviathan off the cost of Haifa, Israel. “I had heard about the Covenant culture and that it was unlike anywhere else, and after meeting Jim and John and the rest of the team, I jumped at the chance to bring my engineering experience to the organization while learning the depth of operational experience housed at Covenant.” In his CTT role, Mike works to differentiate Covenant from other service companies by implementing engineered technology that adds value for our customers. He evaluates current market technologies, and designs and tests new technology. There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to Mike’s background. He has jumped out of an airplane 187 times and he’s experienced a 228 mph car ride. He served our country for nearly a decade as a Special Tactics Officer/ Combat Controller and Tier II special operator. Following his first deployment to Ramadi, Iraq, were five additional direct action deployments. When he’s not in the field testing new technology, he enjoys time with his amazing wife Regina and their busy 2 year old, David Michael.
