HOW AN ACCIDENTAL PHOTO INSPIRED A SUCCESSFUL CAREER Instagram is full of dog photographers and content creators, but Christian's photos caught our eye, and we had to learn more! For this issue, we interviewed Christian Vieler, the German based photographer who specializes in what we call "flying treat photos". "It happened by accident actually! I was testing the flash of my new camera equipment with my dog, in 2013. I had one hand on the equipment, and the other on the treats. Labradors are very food driven so she ended up catching the treat mid-air and I caught these moments on my camera. Once the photos were developed, I found them very amusing." explains Vieler.

Since then, Christian has been capturing dogs catching their treats, intentionally. He has also spent two years developing this style of photography and specific editing techniques for these types of photos, and it shows! Vieler's photos do a great job in highlighting dogs' unique features and expressions. Today, dog photography had become a successful career for Christian who travels around the world to take these amazing photos. Christian can be booked by email or directly via Instagram. To learn more email him at kontakt@vielerphotography.com or visit his page @vieler.photography.

PARIS FASHION WEEK 2023

FUNARI IN PARIS Last year, Funari's collection was featured in Times Square, in NYC, and this year the brand took their collection on the streets of Paris. "Funari was asked to attend Paris seven years ago but we did not feel that the time was right for us." explains Janelle. "After we showed in New York City at Sony Hall, we felt that it was the right time to show the brand in Paris, after the launch of our new lingerie and pet line. We were so happy that France approved us to show our collection in a beautiful palace with 11 canines and 1 feline! Merci Paris!" The name of the collection was "Deep Ethereal Dream, inspired by an underwater world of beauty", explained Funari. "The line is modern and yet classic, and to me it is reminiscent of 70s styles. The pet couture line had a nostalgic feel of Victorian regal sexy corsetry with the elegant flowing gowns. Each pet was uniquely designed in Lurex French laces, hand painted silks, metallic animal prints, tulle, and laser cut flowers." "The next step will be to launch Funari line in Milan, in the Fall. We are planning to launch a line of lingerie for women and men in 2024." Visit funariny.com to learn more.

Lizzie's Golden Life Angela Barrett is not new to fashion. In "Master the art of style” David Pedroza writes that “Angie Barrett is one of the most glamorous women in Texas. She is a respected philanthropist, art patron, and TV personalities, who has become a social fixture in Dallas with a grand sense of style. Angie’s style extends into her Art collection and home in Dallas’s Arts District, which has been featured in magazines for its unique and modern sophistication.” It is therefore not surprising that Angie’s dog, Lizzie is one of the most stylish pups on Instagram! This month we sat down with Angie to learn more about Lizzie’s glamorous life in Texas. How did you get into fashion? “I began working in retail shortly after college and I just fell in love with all things fashion. I was fortunate to work for some amazing design houses and later in life to collect gorgeous one-offs and vintage pieces from my favorite brands." explains Barrett. Angela has a long history of dogs, too. In fact, Lizzie is her fifth puppy! “My first puppy was a toy Poodle that I got for my twelfth birthday. I named him Mickey Mouse. Then my older daughter was gifted a Border Collie whom we called Bentley after Ralph Lauren pant style. Next came Cruiser, a Sheltie that was named after Tom Cruise because my daughter was obsessed with him. Then I fell in love with Cavaliers. My friend has three Blenheims. So my first Cavalier, Grace Kelly, joined Cruiser and lived to be over fifteen years old. After Gracie, I knew I wanted another Cavalier. I filled out a dozens of applications and after several months, I finally found one. When Lizzie was 12 weeks old, we flew to Greensboro, NC to meet her. The minute I saw her I was head over heels in love! I just love everything about this breed— their melting eyes, their sweet demeanor and their personalities. Cavaliers are so playful and they’re very adaptable to different situations and different people.”

How did Lizzie get into fashion? "Lizzie has been a fashion pup since she was little. I started dressing her in Gracie’s little raincoats and wellies as soon as she came home, mostly for warmth and protection. Then, one day, I took a photo of Lizzie in her raincoat and posted it. I started following pet accounts, and I was mesmerized by pet fashion, worn by these adorable animals.I began by trying her in bandannas, tees and hoodies. And later I developed such an admiration for the designers that were creating these fabulous and unique pieces, such as Shannon's cuffs that she creates for GGCREW." Today, Lizzie is an Instagram fashion model. She's modeled for brands like Furdrobe, Maggie & CO, Milly Dog Fashion, 21 Bays, Dressed Up Pup, Luxe Dog Co., Community Pet, Hamsterjuce Poochtique, Jordan Valentino the label, and jewelry designers like GGCREW, French Conn Boutique and Fit For Royalty Designs. Lizzie has even developed a signature style. “My favorite looks on her are a sweatshirt or faux fur hoodie, paired with a sequined tiered skirt, or a beaded harness with a denim skirt.” Angie's daughters, Alana and Whitney, are dog moms too! “They both have wonderful rescue pups! Alana has Peep, and Whitney has Elvis. Lizzie loves them. Peep was actually Lizzie’s Ken for the Barbie movie premiere. For Thanksgiving everyone brought their pups and we had a late lunch followed by board games." To learn more about Lizzie visit her Instagram profile @queenelizabethcavalier.

10 FACTS ABOUT LIZZIE 01

Lizzie is a Queen Charles Cavalier Spaniel. She weighs 15 lbs and will turn 3 in January.

This means that most photoshoots get interrupted when Lizzie spots them. This is also why she's usually looking up and to her left in most of her photos, because she's always looking at the squirrel tree. Lizzie loves watching TV and barking at the animals she sees on screen. She is a really high jumper. When she was a baby she would jump out of her playpen.

Lizzie is a tomboy at heart. She will roll in the puddles when she gets a chance.

Breed Highlight: Cavalier Queen Charles Spaniel

70

Meet the famous Royal Companions The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a beloved toy breed known for its affectionate nature, elegant appearance, and playful demeanor. Here's an overview of this delightful breed. The Cavalier draws you in with their face. The sweet, gentle, melting expression emanating from large, round eyes is a breed hallmark, along with their silky smooth and richly colored coat. And, their well-feathered, long, and set high on the head ears are the breed's distinctive feature. They come in four distinct color patterns: Blenheim (chestnut and white), Tricolor (black, white, and tan), Ruby (solid red), and Black & Tan. The Cavalier is a small to medium-sized dog, typically weighing between 13-18 pounds (6-8 kg). Cavaliers are known for their loving and affectionate nature. They thrive on human companionship and are often called "love sponges" for their desire to be close to their owners. They are also gentle, friendly, and usually get along well with children, other pets, and strangers. Cavaliers may be aristocrats, but they'll often gladly descend from their royal high horse for a backyard frolic, or a squirrel chase.

BREED OVERVIEW GROUP: Toy HEIGHT: 12 to 13 inches WEIGHT: 13 to 18 lbs COAT: long and silky COLOR: many color patterns LIFE EXPECTANCY: 12 to 15 years

The Regal Pups of English Royalty

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel wears their connection to British history in their breed's name. The Cavalier's all-around beauty, regal grace, and even temper mark him as one of dogdom's noblemen. The breed's history dates back to the 17th century. The Cavalier was favored by royalty and nobility, especially during the reign of King Charles II, in England. They were bred for companionship and were often depicted in royal portraits. Toy Spaniels were the province of European nobility from at least Renaissance times.

British monarchs, King Charles I and his son Charles II, were especially devoted to a black and tan variety of toy spaniel that eventually was named in the latter's honor. In fact, according to the famed diarist of the Restoration era, Samuel Pepys, Charles II seemed more concerned with breeding spaniels than ruling Britain. But, can we really blame him?! Toy spaniels remained a great favorite of British aristocrats into the early 19th century.

Later in the century, in the age of Victoria, the breed was crossed with Asian toys, probably Pugs and Japanese Chin, and became what is known in America as the English Toy Spaniel, or, in the United Kingdom, the King Charles Spaniel. This new-style toy spaniel had a domed skull and a flatter face than those of Charles' time. Before long, this type came to dominate, and the traditional toy spaniel of the Restoration was rendered nearly extinct' but not forgotten. Story has it, that a one wealthy American named Roswell Eldridge offered a cash prize to British breeders to produce 'Bleinheim Spaniels of the Old World type.' The prospect of prize money drove breeders to revive the old style. These dogs were dubbed "Cavalier King Charles Spaniels". Today the Cavalier is among the most recognizable dog breeds. It was featured in Disney's Lady and the tramp, and the character of Elizabeth Taylor, Charlotte York's Cavalier, in Sex and the City, which brought even more popularity to the breed.
