Letter from the Editor
Woof, and welcome back to another issue of DOGUE! For those who are new to our publication or community— Welcome! We are a group of dog moms who live and breath dogs and fashion. We started our magazine back in 2019, on Instagram, and then created a monthly, print version of the magazine, inspired by Vogue, in 2021. Dog news is our news! Here, we explore dog fashion, trends, and lifestyles of pups from all over the world. In this issue, we show you how pups styled rainbows for Pride season, and how Fresh Patch is making sure that the grass is always greener on your side! We take a look inside Mary Haber's latest photo session, and interview the two most glamorous poodles of Los Angeles: Brontë and Sebastian! We met Bronte at a classic Hollywood diner to discuss her fashion career, and love life. In this issue we get a glimpse inside Bronte’s Hollywood life and uncover the secret lives of American dog models. We also discover Luxury Pet Fashion, a brand inspired by Sebastian, and bring you Anthony Rubio’s latest couture collection entitled "Pet Gala" inspired by the looks from Wintour’s Met Gala. We wish everyone a beautiful summer, full of rainbows and unicorns! Till next time, XOXO,

Got Grass? Fresh Patch is an American company that's revolutionizing dog lifestyles, one patch at a time. "We wanted to offer dogs fresh green grass; no matter where they live." The company delivers hydroponically grown grass patches to pet owners within the United States, on subscription basis. Fresh Patch is popular in urban areas where access to green grass is more limited. With Fresh Patch, dogs can enjoy natural oasis in the convenience of their home balconies. These fresh grass patches are offered in different sizes, and in different styles. Fresh Patch also makes it easy to potty train pups. The brand got famous after being featured on ABC's Shark Tank. Visit www.freshpatch.com to learn more!
@mimibearpom
We discovered Fresh Patch when we moved to Hollywood. We didn't have a backyard, and there was no grass outside of our complex. There was a park but it was not within a walking distance. So, to make things easier, we decided to order our grass from Fresh Patch! The service was very quick, and the grass was amazing quality. We ordered a large patch with a beautiful wooden sleeve, made of oak. Our balcony looked beautiful, and Mimi Bear had her own mini oasis at home. She was very happy!
We use Fresh Patch for safety reasons; because we don't want to walk Rylee at night, and risk her getting attacked by a coyote. We have lots of coyotes in our area, and we have already lost a dog to a coyote. Darla was a 12 year old Pekingese who was attacked at night, while going potty in the backyard. Fresh Patch is not only convenient for us, but it's also the safer choice. We no longer have to worry about coyotes. Rylee is one lucky pup!

Hollywood pups attended a different kind of Summer Spa Session this season: a waterless one, a photoshoot with Mary Haber Pets, to promote Neacasa's new DIY at-home-grooming pet products! We support at-home-grooming efforts because of how many pups get injured during paid grooming sessions. Here are some of our favorite captures from Mary's latest photo set! The Secret Life of American Dog Models [continued from page 60] How did Brontë come into your life? "It was the Thanksgiving week in 2017 when I lost both my Giant Schnauzers. Two weeks later I woke up to a DM from an Instagram friend telling me that I needed a dog, and that she had already contacted her breeder in Southern CA. She said that there was a female, red Standard poodle puppy waiting for me! I called the breeder and a week later, I brought Brontë home. It was all very spontaneous, as I was not looking to get a puppy that quickly or even sure that I wanted to switch breeds. But there it was, like destiny. It all just fell into place that I ended up with the perfect dog." How did Brontë become an Instagram model? "Once I got Brontë I started receiving gifts for her, so we started taking photos of Bronte and posting them on Instagram. We started with tutus and necklaces and then we added the sunglasses because she tends to squint when she's in the sun. We got a lot of attention because of how she was dressed and received lots of requests from brands to take photos of her with their pieces. Eventually Brontë took over my personal account, as she is the real star of it, anyway!" Brontë is one of the most well-trained dog models we've ever worked with. Did she get any professional training? "The day after Brontë came home, we started basic obedience training with a trainer who came over to the house. Over the years we have had additional training to fine-tune things. We even did a series of classes for dog acting. Overall, she has been very sweet and obedient since the day she came home. When a group of dogs take photos, Brontë is usually the first one to sit and the last one to leave."

Tell us about Brontë's social life. We hear that she has a boyfriend, and that he's pretty famous too! "Having Brontë changed my life. We’ve become family with the people who have her siblings, and we've met the nicest people in Los Angeles through the LA dog scene. Many have become our true friends. Brontë has best friends whom she is overjoyed to see and has regular play dates with. She's definitely got a very active social life. And, yes, she also has a boyfriend! His name is Sebastian. He is a glamorous, Standard poodle, and fashion model too!" In fact, Sebastian is a local LA celebrity, who's been featured in Beyoncé's Black Is King movie, Snoop Dog's Super Bowl Commercial for Skechers, Saweetie x Pretty Little Thing music video, and Svetlana Loboda's SuperStar music video. He's also been featured in print adds, including Billboards in Time Square NY and Melrose Ave. But, we mostly know him as the poodle star of Beverly Hills who steals the attention of every human he comes in contact with. He's a tall, white poodle, with the classic pom pom haircut. He's like the unicorn of Rodeo Drive. You can't miss him! How did Brontë meet Sebastian? "We have been following Sebastian on Instagram from the time he was a little pup, when I still had my Giants. I was I immediately drawn to him, as he was the most darling puppy. His mother created an incredible line of dog accessories called Luxury Pet Fashion, inspired by him. The pieces looked so fabulous on Sebastian that we decided to get them for Brontë as well! So, when Brontë was only 5 months old, we ordered a collar, a harness and a leash from Sebastian's line. When we went to pick it up, we met Sebastian, and his mom, Allysa. There was an immediate bond between the pups which had grown over the years. They are totally in love with each other, and while Sebastian hasn't put a ring on Brontë's paw, just yet, the wedding has been planned!" We can't wait for Brontë and Sebastian's wedding! To learn more about these glam Poodles, visit their pages @brontethepoodle and @sebastianthestandard.

The Aristro rats of Dogdom The Poodle is the national dog of France, but it is known to have originated in Germany. In France, Poodles are known as "Caniche, or “duck dog.” And, in Germany, they're known as "“pudelin" or "water dog." The breed is divided into three varieties based on size: the Standard Poodle, Miniature Poodle and Toy Poodle. Standards should be more than 15 inches tall at the shoulder; Miniatures are 15 inches or under; Toys stand no more than 10 inches. All three varieties have the same build and proportions. But, whether Standard, Miniature, or Toy, the Poodle stands proudly among dogdom's true aristocrats. Standing tall at over 15 inches, Poodles look elegant and glamorous, rather effortlessly. Poodles have become very popular at dog shows and have a long history of working at the circus. Poodles have a distinctive thick, curly coat that comes in many different colors and patterns, with only solid colors recognized by breed registries. Beneath the curly, low-allergen coat is an elegant guard dog, athlete and companion. Poodles are active and intelligent, and are particularly able to learn from humans. They're dogs of remarkable versatility, and do very well with training.

German Water Dogs Turned Show Dogs
There is some mystery when it comes to the origins of Poodles. The breed is known to have originated in Germany, some cynologists believe the Poodle originated in France, and that the breed descends from the Barbet. Others argue that the breed originated in Russia, Piedmont or Northwest Africa. Most cynologists, however, believe that the Poodle originated in Germany in the Middle Ages, from a dog similar to today's Standard Poodle.
The word “pudelin” refers to splashing in water. And, that’s because the Poodle was Germany's water dog, just as England had the English Water Spaniel, France the Barbet, Ireland the Irish Water Spaniel and the Netherlands the Wetterhoun. It is said that the Standard Poodle began its development as a retrieving water dog more than 400 years ago. With a crisp, curly coat as protection against the elements, superlative swimming ability, and off-the-charts intelligence, the Poodle is a magnificent retriever.
The flamboyant Poodle show coat served a practical purpose in the breed’s early years. Hunters wanted their dogs to have free range of movement in the water, but they also wanted to protect vital areas of the anatomy from the cold. They shaved the legs, neck, and tail but left the chest, hips, and leg joints coated. The rounded tufts on the legs, hips, and tail tip are called pompons, or pom-poms. These pom-poms originally meant to keep the dogs' joints and vital organs warm while they retrieved ducks from the cold water. The Poodle’s many fine qualities allowed it to move from the lake to the lap of luxury. Elegant Poodles of the Standard and Miniature varieties found favor among the nobles of France and, eventually, all of Europe. The breed’s showy looks and trainability made it a natural entertainer, and Poodles have long been associated with the European circus tradition. An excellent nose brought the Poodle additional work as a truffle hunter. Larger Poodles were originally used by wildfowl hunters to retrieve game from water, while smaller varieties were once commonly used as circus performers. As circus performers the variety was frequently seen performing all manner of tricks including walking tightropes, acting out comedies and even performing magic and card tricks. The Poodle was recognised by the Kennel Club of the United Kingdom in 1874, and by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1886, soon after the founding of both clubs. The breed became popular in America in 1935 when the Poodle Nunsoe Duc de la Terrace won best in show at Westminster. Poodles became AKC's most registered breed from 1960 to 1982. Since 1935, Poodles have won best in show at Westminster 10 times, the second-most of any breed. As of 2012, the Poodle was the third-most popular FCI registered breed worldwide, after the Labrador Retriever and German Shepherd, with 118,653 new dogs registered per year from the 25 countries surveyed.
