PICNICS & Barkuterie BOARD Essentials Picnic season is officially here! It's time to take out our picnic baskets, and start preparing our barkuterie boards! There are a dozen of dog brands that specialize in barkuterie boards, such as Woof Board, but, that doesn't mean that you can't make a spectacular board yourself! And if you haven't done one yet, we've got you covered! In this article, we'll show you how to make a beautiful, home made, barkuterie board in just 4 Easy Steps!
Barkuterie Board Essentials Let's assemble an attractive display of dog-safe foods and treats for your pup on a beautiful board. You'll need the following: (1) Fruits (2) Veggies (3) Peanut Butter and (4) Dog Cookies and/ or Frozen Dog Treats, or Pupsicles. Step 1: Let's start with the basics. Cut up some dog friendly, colorful, fruit such as blueberries, strawberries, bananas and/ or watermelon. Step 2: Add some dog friendly veggies, such as cucumbers, carrots, and/ or leafy greens, to add some vitamins, minerals and fiber. Step 3: Add a fun, dog safe topping, such as peanut butter, to add flavor to your board. Make sure it's unsalted, and all natural, without any hidden ingredients. Step 4: Combine your dog's favorite treats on a tray or make your own! Here are our favorite recipes for cookies and frozen treats!
32
Home-Made Dog Cookies Ingredients: (1) Cooked sweet potato (2) All natural peanut butter (no sweeteners or additives) (3) Oat flour (made from grinding whole oats) Stir together the mashed sweet potato and peanut butter. Then, add the ground oat flour into the mix. Stir to combine. Roll the dough out to between ¼″ and ½″ thick. Use a larger cookie cutter for bigger dogs. Bake these home-made dog treats at 400 degrees F for 10-15 minutes. For soft treats, bake for 10-12 minutes and for crunchier treats leave for 15 minutes. Find the Full Recipe here: https://tastythriftytimely.com/3-ingredient-dog-treats-home-madewith-love/
Home-Made Frozen Pupsicles Ingredients: (1) Yogurt- Unsweetened plain Greek yogurt. If your dog is lactose intolerant, you can substitute it for chicken stock. Do not substitute non-dairy yogurt. Too many nuts can be bad for dogs. (2) Blueberries or strawberries (3) Banana- Half of mashed banana is all you need. This will add natural sweetness and texture to the dog treat. Mix the ingredients and place them inside a mold that is oven and freezer safe. Any popsicle mold or ice cube tray will work. Remove the pupsicles from the molds and let your pups enjoy! They last 1-2 months in a freezer bag, or up to 3 months if left in the molds and tightly covered. Find the Full Recipe here: https://www.peelwithzeal.com/frozen-dog-treat-recipe/

The Mini Living Room by the World's Best Dog Dad

"I first reated the Mini Living Room for my three pups in a spare bedroom of my house."
The Mini Living Room & The Story Behind it Today it is common for pups to have their own designated bedrooms, with their own closets. But Benjamin Mazer, a doctor, and dog dad, took it a step further by creating a Mini Living Room for his dogs inside a spare bedroom of his house. “I first created the Mini Living Room for my three miniature dachshunds; Peaches, Challah, and Mitzi— in a spare bedroom of my house, back in July of 2021. The original idea was to dedicate an entire room to my dogs in order to have an enclosed space where I could safely keep them while I’m not at home. You see, the dachshund breed of dogs is known for their long, sausage-like shape. But in order to accommodate their shape, they have elongated spines with very short legs, which makes them highly susceptible to injuring their necks or backs, usually from jumping onto or off of human-sized furniture.
In 2016 when Peaches was only three years old, she sustained a severe neck injury after jumping off of a sofa while I was not home. I found her crying in excruciating pain and barely able to walk— which I soon learned was due to a devastating herniated disc pushing on her spinal cord in her neck. Fortunately she was able to undergo emergency neurosurgery which was a total success! But ever since that incident, I have promised to do everything in my power to prevent my dogs from injuring themselves in the future. With that promise in mind, the Mini Living Room was born!”
Designer Ad Ons The Mini Living Room started with a couple of mini dog sofas that Benjamin found on Wafair, and today, it includes virtually everything; from mini coffee tables and mini lamps, to mini carpets and mini art works.
"I added some additional mini furnishings that I had lying around the house— plants, a rug, and wall-art hung at minida hshund height. It all ame together perfe tly!"
7
Cozy Up with these Cool, Designer Summer Dog Spa es This Summer, Benjamin created a Mini Outdoor Pool & Patio for his pups, so it's no surprise that he has come to be known as "The World's Best Dog Dad." What started as a hobby has turned into a movement, of some sort, especially in the online dog community. Indeed, Benjamin’s Mini Living Room has been featured on Newsweek, People, Insider, Architectural Digest, and even on national television! To learn more, visit his profile @theworldsbestdogdad.
Dolce Meet Coco and Bibi: two fashion models from Italy. We discovered the stylish duo last year, as they posed their matching winter looks, against the most beautiful backdrops of snowy Italian Alps. We loved it so much, we featured them in the Dec issue of DOGUE, in the Spawrts Illustrated section. This month, we had the opportunity to sit down with their mamager, and fashion stylist, Lucie Lekes, to learn more about their stylish Dolce Vita. How did Coco and Bibi come into your life? "In 2010 I moved to Italy from Czech Republic, with my dog, Zara, a Chinese Crested rescue that I got back in 2006. Then, I decided to get a little sister for Zara so she wouldn't be home alone. I worked as a flight attendant, and traveled a lot. So, I got Coco— a Chinese Crested pup, but from a breeder, this time, to avoid various health issues that Zara had. In 2019, Zara passed away, and it was a very difficult time for me. For a while, I didn’t want to get any more dogs. But, as time passed, I realized that two dogs is better than one, and that's when we found Bibi. She was born exactly one year later, precisely to the hour after Zara passed. That was a sign for me!" Why did you choose these exotic Hairless dog breeds, specifically? "Coco is a Chinese Crested Dog, hairless variety, and Bibi is an American Hairless Terrier. I chose these breeds because of their happy nature and their unusual looks. I also developed allergies, which is why I wanted hairless dogs. These exotic breeds are also becoming more and more popular in Europe, and they make great models for my dog fashion brand."
44
Vita How old are Coco and Bibi? And, do they get along? "Coco is turning 12 in September and Bibi just turned 2 this May. But even though they have 10 years between them, they get along very well, and love to play with each other." You also have a dog clothing brand. How did that start? What inspired you? "I've been making clothes for dogs since I was a teenager, mainly because there wasn't much choice on the market, when it came to dog fashion. Very few models were available and the fitting wasn't great. We also needed winter clothes for our family Yorkie, and I have always been creative, so I made custom jackets for her. I started my first brand "Kim Fashion" named after our Yorkie, when I was seventeen years old. When I moved to Italy to pursue my dream of becoming a flight attendant, I continued making clothes for my dogs, as a hobby. When the pandemic hit, I had more time to work on my brand, and create matching outfits for Coco and myself. When I got Bibi in the summer of 2020, my passion for clothes making turned into a whole new level. I realized that a completely hairless dog needed more than just a jacket. I also didn't like how the unisex dog clothes fit them, so I revised my brand, and changed the name to the "Best Dressed Dogs" shop. My goal is to offer style and sustainability. We don't use any plastic in our packaging, and even the tape we use is recycled paper. Most of my clothes are made from GOTS certified Organic Cotton, tencel or bamboo, which are the best sustainable options for fabrics, these days." The NEON CRAZE
Like a wise pup once said "Fluorescent colors evoke positive emotions because their magnetic tones emit a radiant energy that, in addition to attract people's attention, they transmit a certain vitality to humans." @piccolo_lebrel. Indeed, neon green, the brightest shade of green, is composed of green, red and blue. In order to create this eye-catching, vibrant shade, you first need to combine colors yellow and blue to make its base. Then, by adding more yellow into the mixture, you will achieve the desired effect. The hex code for neon green is #39FF14.

@harvoola
The History of Neon In 1898, two British chemists, William Ramsay and Morris W. Travers, discovered the gas neon when they isolated it in their atomic spectometer. Soon after, French engineer Georges Claude invented neon lights and their mass production has begun. Neon signs were popping up all over Paris, soon to take America by storm. Eventually, most cities in the US were glowing in sensational neon light.
Throughout the 30s and the 40s, neon was on the rise in the art world, as well. Its artistic, fascinating glow was described as "one of the great modern things" by Andy Warhol, himself. That is also when Robert Switzer, co-inventor of the Day-Glo Paint, invented fluorescent dyes, paints and penetrants. Today, neon colors are taking over again. Whether in art, fashion, advertisement signs, these intense, bold colors are here to stay.

Breed Highlight: Chines Creste 88
The Hairless Dog Breed With their spotted pink skin, spiky 'crested' hairdo, furry socks and feathery tail, you can't mistake the exotic and elegant Chinese Crested for any other breed. This frolicsome and affectionate dog is truly a breed apart. The Chinese Crested, a graceful, lively and alert toy breed stands between 11 and 13 inches high, and generally weighs up to 12 pounds. They come in two variants: the Hairless, with silky hair on the head (the crest), tail (plume), and feet (socks); and the genetically recessive Powderpuff, who has a full coat. Both variants can be found in a single litter. The hairless variety has smooth, soft skin and tufts of hair on the head, tail, and ankles. The coated variety, called the 'powderpuff,' is covered by a soft, silky coat. Besides the coat, there's very little difference between the powderpuff and his undressed brother. Powderpuff coats are seen in all colors and in combinations of mahogany, blue, lavender, or copper. They can be solid or spotted. The skin tones of the Hairless are pink and black. Regardless of variation, the Crested is a slender, finely boned dog who is elegant and graceful. Cresteds are as fun as they look: playful, loving, and devoted to their humans. The hairless has its advantages: there is no doggy odor, and for obvious reasons shedding isn't much of a problem. Both varieties are attentive housemates, totally in tune with their family. Cresteds are wonderful family dogs who love to be with the people in their lives.
BREED OVERVIEW GROUP: Toy HEIGHT: 11 to 13 inches WEIGHT: 8 - 10 lbs COAT: hairless or coated COLOR: All colors. Solid or Spotted. LIFE EXPECTANCY: 13 to 18 years
The History of the "Dr. Seuss Dog"
Contrary to popular belief, Chinese Cresteds didn’t actually come from China. But, because the breed’s origins go so far back in time, we can make mere assumptions about how the breed was created. It is believed that the breed originated in Africa, and then brought to China, where it was reduced in size after generations of breeding. After all, the Chinese were the master miniaturizers of the ancient world; the Shi Tzu and Pekingese are just two examples of breeds born of Chinese minimania.
The Crested is believed to have accompanied Chinese sailors on the high seas as early as 1530. They traveled with the Chinese trading vessels, and were used as shipboard exterminators. They were traded among sailors in seaports around the world and, along the way, acquired the name Chinese Ship Dog. By the middle of the 19th century, Cresteds began to appear in numerous European paintings and prints. Today, they also appear in Hollywood movies.
Documentation by Europeans of a hairless dog who closely resembled the Chinese Crested appears as early as the 1700s, when European travelers visited Chinese seaports and boarded Chinese trading vessels. The Chinese viewed the Chinese Cresteds as having magical healing powers. They also used these dogs as living heating pads! Apparently, the Hairless Cresteds are incredibly, and unbelievably tolerant of heat. They can lie in 100-degree sun for hours, with any problems. The breed was very popular among the Chinese emperors as well as the sailors. It's unclear when the breed officially arrived in North America, but the first breed club here was founded in 1974. The Crested took root in the United States through the efforts of two women, journalist Ida Garrett and breeder Debra Woods. For several decades beginning in the 1880s, they promoted the Cresteds in America—Garrett through her prolific writing and speaking, and Woods through her breeding programs and scrupulously kept studbooks. The American Chinese Crested Club was formed in 1979, and in 1991 the breed entered the AKC Stud Book. Among the many nicknames this unusual breed has acquired over the years is the “Dr. Seuss Dog,” a reference to the hairless Crested’s resemblance to fanciful creatures who populate the books of the beloved author-illustrator. Earlier names of the Crested include Chinese Hairless, the Chinese Ship Dog, and the Chinese Royal Hairless. Today, they enjoy life as beloved family pets, but they also have the personality to excel at being more than just pampered pooches. Their athletic abilities are why many Chinese Cresteds are taking the conformation, obedience, and agility worlds by storm.
