After over 6 months of hard work and preparation, 29 school finals and 3 regional finals, Cowes Enterprise College Year 7 students Lincoln and Rio took part in the final of the OAT MFL Spelling Bee!

Lincoln and Rio joined 11 students from Ormiston Academies Trust schools across the country After a fierce start in Round 1, 11 became seven and then in Round 2 “Fastest First” demanded speed as well as nerve until only two students remained.

Cowes Enterprise College student Lincoln competed against Alarnah from Ormiston Forge Academy to earn their place in Round 3 The “Sudden Death” round was unsuccessful in finding a winner as both Alarnah and Lincoln spelled 20 words correctly – in French or Spanish and so the competition went to a Tie Break.

Lincoln and Alarnah were given 20 new words to learn in just 10 minutes With help from teachers and supporters, the two pupils studied their new, extra challenging list of words furiously and then came back to the stage for a last time to showcase their amazing ability and memory. Just a few minutes in, Lincoln was as the winner to the delight of his family and all at Cowes Enterprise College.

Cowes Enterprise College are so proud of Rio and Lincoln who have impressed us with their incredible skill and language knowledge They are a credit to the academy

To reward his hard work and success, Lincoln and his family will be heading to Paris later this year We look forward to hearing all about it
