Introduction The Cowes Charter is part of our guarantee to each Cowes Enterprise College student. In addition to high levels of attendance and academic progress, students build a portfolio of experiences throughout each year, based on access to a wide range of experiences to develop both their academic and personal skills to be the best they can be. These experiences go above and beyond the standard curriculum offer for every child. Participation is an integral and compulsory part of being a successful student at Cowes Enterprise College. At key stage 3, students complete a set of experiences through their time with us each year across the years 7, 8 and 9. These experiences are designed to build and expand upon the curriculum and provide opportunities for students to shine as individuals. The key stage 3 Charters cover five key areas: 1. Perform for a variety of audiences 2. Take advantage of enrichment opportunities 3. Make a contribution to society 4. Show all round learning 5. Be involved in the wider life of the school In year 7, students are guaranteed a wide range of experiences from actively taking part in opportunities designed to develop their character to encouraging further learning on being an active citizen and preparing for life in the modern world. In year 8, the Charter builds on the portfolio of experiences and skills students developed in year 7, in addition to providing opportunities to further develop character and resilience, alongside opportunities to take part in enterprise activities and opportunities for you to explore experiences in careers and develop employability skills. In Year 9, the Charter continues to build on the portfolio of experiences that students had in year 8, with the addition of further enterprise and career opportunities that further extend personal development opportunities in preparing for the future.

The key stage 3 charter Throughout key stage 3, your child’s Charter experiences are tracked alongside their efforts, progress, attendance and behaviour, culminating in a formal graduation ceremony for every child to progress into key stage 4. The efforts put in to life in key stage 3, will determine the level of graduation for each child as they progress onto their key stage 4 pathways.
The key stage 4 charter Charter at key stage 4 is a continuation of our guarantee to you as a Cowes Enterprise College student. Once students have graduated into this next key stage, The Charter is designed to provide a continuous and refined set of experiences and skills to allow for a smooth transition from key stage 3 and progress into our 6th form or onto further education and training. Students gain more responsibility within their Charter at key stage 4 and working together with their tutor will continue to track and record their individual progress. A student’s involvement and commitment to their charter will help them to develop as a person, build confidence and promote academic success. The key stage 4 Charters cover four key areas: 1. Academic development 2. Pastoral development 3. Enrichment 4. Careers and progression

The key stage 5 charter Our sixth form charter is a requirement of all Cowes sixth form students and involves a variety of creative, sports, community service and employability skills development activities. Participation is an integral and compulsory part of being a student at Cowes sixth form. Involvement and commitment both builds on the charter experiences from key stages 3 and 4 and further helps our students to develop as people, build confidence, enhance social and employability skills. The key stage 5 Charter programme is highly valuable and covers a range of experiences from leadership opportunities to curriculum extension experiences. Part of the key stage 5 charter is to provide the best opportunities for those applying for further education, apprenticeships or employment. Potential employers and universities are looking for well-rounded individuals who have made a significant contribution to the academy and local community, as well as academic excellence. Charter activities are tracked and monitored by the sixth form pastoral Team and Form Tutors in order to ensure that all students develop a balanced and effective range of skills and experiences related to their future plans and aspirations.
