pring is upon us and whether you are planning a wedding, looking for some classy styles for Spring or wanting to get in better shape for Summer, you will find it in this issue of Cowgirls In Style magazine.

We are excited to launch the first Judy Wright, “Beauty by Judy” column in this issue! Judy is the hair and makeup specialist for the Miss Rodeo America Pageant, not to mention she has also worked with many celbrities, including Condoleeza Rice, comedian Carrot Top and country superstar, Toby Keith. She has also worked with many brides and in this issue, she gives us some tips on getting that perfect look for your wedding. We are also talking about getting fit in 21 days. We have a new challenge that we will be featuring each month for Cowgirl Fit and we are introducing it in this issue. We show just how stylish a simple spring dress can be in our Fashions section and also Rodeo Runway. These fashions are garnished with Olav Jules Designs by Cat Sandstrom.

Engagement and Wedding Day Hair & Makeup Ideas When planning a wedding, a bride’s to-do list is extensive. Hair and makeup is considered to be in the Top 10 items to secure at least 3-6 months prior to the wedding date. Hair and makeup is personal and a very important part of both engagement and wedding day photos. You want to look fresh, fabulous, soft and beautiful - yet camera ready. You want your makeup to last throughout the day and into the evening festivities. So when it comes to wedding day hair and makeup, here are some thoughts and ideas to keep in mind:

About Judy Judy Wright is the current makeup artist and hair stylist for the Miss Rodeo America Pageant and many other clients around the world, is a sought after cosmetologist. Many of her clients are in the pageant industry, but she also loves doing brides, models, television, conventions, runway, commercial and print, etc.

22 | Cowgirls In Style | June/July 2015

Her work has also been featured on the Bravo and Discovery channels. Hermost famous faces are Condoleeza Rice, comedian Carrot Top and country superstar, Toby Keith

1

It is very important to secure your stylist in advance as well as have a trial run with your artist if possible. If they are out of town, ask to see photos of their work, ask for referrals, take the time to call and talk to them on the phone. You can get a good feel from someone when you speak to them so this will help if they are not in your hometown. Share with them your vision of what kind of makeup and hair styling you are wanting. Share photos so they can begin to envision your look.

2

Ask what kind of products they use and how long they have been in their profession. Most brides want to look ‘natural’ on their day and this is important. However, the flash from cameras will automatically blow you out in photos so do not be afraid of a bit more coverage as the camera and lights will tone down the makeup. Your artist should have a good working knowledge of this and be able to apply the right amount of makeup.

3

Bridal makeup can be either soft or dramatic. It depends on the personality of the bride. A good artist will be able to discern this from either speaking or meeting with you and getting to know you prior to the wedding and be able to deliver the look you are requesting.

5

And of course, the tresses! Ask if your stylist is familiar with working with clip in extensions if you are using them. If you have other types of extensions, have them redone at least a week prior. The same goes for your hair color.

False eyelashes are the most popular way to accent the eyes. The eyes should be beautiful and captivating. Strip lashes create a more glamorous and sexy look while individual lashes can be more subtle.

6 7

If you are getting a spray tan, do it 2-3 days before the wedding.

The same for eyebrows. You don’t want them red and puffy on the big day.

8

Request waterproof makeup - at least eyeliner and mascara. Most foundation makeup is long wearing and is usually set with a soft powder that will last for hours but definitely waterproof is the way to go when it comes to eyeliner, mascara and lash glue!

9

If you want your artist to remain throughout the day or evening for touchups, ask them ahead of time for their extended rate.

Whether you are going for a bold and dramatic look or a more soft and natural one, be specific in your requests of your artist. It is your day and you should be able to have the look and feel that you want. You will look back on those photos for years to come so you want them to reflect the best you and recreate that unforgettable day every time you look at them. Until next time!
