OUR PICK FOR THE BEST SUNLESS TAN
AFTER TRYING SEVERAL SUNLESS LOTIONS, WE HAVE A TRUE WINNER!
Our choice for the best sunless tan is Coco & Eve. The smell is less noticable and you do not get an orange tint to your tan. It is a golden brown and when you use the dark or darkest color, it is a dark brown that stays for over 3-4 days!
We also love the mit that comes with the lotion. It wipes the lotion on evenly without getting on your hands. A must when lathering sunless lotion on your skin.

STEPS IN CATCHING A RELUCTANT HORSE
By: Susan Gentry
CATCHING A RAMBUNCTIOUS HORSE IN THE PAS -
TURE CAN BE FRUSTRATING, HERE ARE A FEW TIPS THAT MAY HELP
It’s not only frustrating, but time consuming when it comes to catching your horse in the pasture. Sometimes they just don’t want to be caught and the idea of going for that long awaited ride can sometimes go south.
Here are some tips that can help when it comes to catching that reluctant horse:
1. Approach the horse calmly and confidently.
2 Offer a treat to gain its trust.
3. Slowly move closer while speaking in a soothing tone.
4. Gently place a halter on the horse.
5. Lead the horse with a firm yet gentle hand.
6. Watch for any signs of discomfort or resistance.
7. Maintain a safe distance from the horse’s hind legs.
8. Be patient and give the horse time to adjust.
9. Reward the horse for good behavior.
10. Secure the horse in a safe area.

NEKKEI SANFORD, CHAMPION
MOUNTED SHOOTER
NEKKEI IS A WORLD CHAMPION MOUNTED SHOOTER, WHO WHEN NOT ON A BACK OF A HORSE IS A SUCCESSFUL REALTOR, AND A RAPIDLY GROWING SOCIAL MEDIA SENSATION
Cowgirls In Style Magazine: We love following your latest success in the Mounted Shooter world. You ride so well. Did you grow up with horses?
Nekkei Sanford: I didn’t grow up with horses, but I did grow up playing sports and being very competitive so it wasn’t until I moved out and was going to college that I was bored out of my mind and just came across an ad for horseback riding lessons. I went and took my first lesson and I was hooked. I was 20 years old. (Continued)

CIS: What led you to your interest in the Mounted Shooting competitions and have you done other equestrian events besides shooting?
N.S.: I started off running barrels and poles and I did that for a few years and I just got sort of bored of it. There was a girl at one of the barrel races that did mounted shooting and I had never heard of that so I looked it up on YouTube and thought it was the coolest thing! I then got with a trainer and had a new obsession and passion.
CIS: How many horses do you own? I would imagine it would take a certain type of horse to be a good mounted shooting horse? What do you look for in a good horse?
N.S.: So over the years I have always had three horses, but just this last year I have only one in my care and that I compete with. I think it takes a very confident horse to do this sport and one that you could really trust. What I look for in a horse is, I just want to make sure they are really broke and pretty tolerant of noises and definitely not spooky. I tried making my barrel horse, my Mounted Shooting horse and that didn’t work out very well.
CIS: How many hours a week do you put into your training and events? We notice you are also a Real Estate Agent. Are you gone a few days a week with your competitions or how does that work?
N.S. I usually ride 2 to 3 times no more than 45 min and will maybe go to do a lesson where I’m actually running and shooting once every two weeks. I really try to preserve my horse since I only have one and he doesn’t really need much schooling. Competitions are really busy in the winter time here in Arizona and then they slow down in the summertime. I go to maybe three or four out of state shoots a year and at most I’m gone only two weeks at a time so it’s fairly easy for me to get away because I can still work my computer or answer phone calls. That is one perk about working for myself and being a realtor is that I can and do have time for this very time-consuming hobby.
CIS: There are certain levels correct? Could you
explain a little more about how that works? You are L3 Champion, how exciting was that?
N.S.: I am actually a level five now! There are levels 1-6 gender split, 6 being the highest. In this sport, everybody starts off as a level one and you have to get a certain amount of wins with a certain number of people in your class to move up. I won the level three world championship two years ago and it was my first year that I had my horse that I ride now and so he’s pretty much carried me to almost pro level, which is very exciting. I am five wins away from going pro and hopefully when this article is published, I will be less wins away as I am going to Wyoming to compete next weekend, so hopefully I get some more wins under my belt!
CIS: What are some of your short term and long term goals?
N.S.: Some of my short term goals are definitely do well in my sport and win. I always say I love horses, but they cost too much if you’re not winning. I love the competitive aspect of sport and that’s what really keeps me motivated. This sport gets harder the higher level you reach. Long-term goals would be to win the world champion as a level 6 one day.
CIS: What would be some advice you would tell a person who is interested in becoming a mounted shooter?
N.S.: Some advice I would tell a new shooter would definitely be to get with a trainer or someone who is experienced in the sport. Take as many lessons as you can because there’s so many aspects to this sport that one doesn’t really consider when you’re just watching. You have to work on your timing, you’re shooting, course management, the own horse, the equipment, clothing, and definitely the rules. So it’s just a lot to learn! It is so much fun and so worth it. It is truly a sport that is always challenging, and I’m excited to see how much it grows!
