ACM Awards April 2, 2017
-ACMCountry.com The Academy of Country Music has announced the date for the 2017 ACM Awards, which are set to air live from Las Vegas in a brand-new venue. The 52nd annual ACM Awards will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 8PM ET/delayed PT and air live on CBS. 2017’s broadcast will mark the first time the show will take place at T-Mobile Arena. A press release on Tuesday (Jan. 17) promises that the ceremony “honoring and showcasing the biggest names and emerging talent in country music, will feature exciting performances, unprecedented collaborations, surprising moments and more to be announced in the coming months.” The annual awards cer-
emony is billed as Country Music’s Party of the Year. Details for a number of ACMrelated events, including information about the 2017 ACM Party for a Cause events, activities and official ACM after parties, are still to be announced. The awards ceremony is sure to feature country music’s biggest stars and up-and-coming new performers, both as nominees in the biggest categories, and as performers. Veteran ACMs host Luke Bryan invited his good friend Dierks Bentley to co-host the broadcast in 2016, and the two men revealed an easy comedic chemistry. It remains to be seen who will host in 2017, but it’s sure to be a pair of country music’s brightest stars.

Lisa Lageschaar
Miss Rodeo America 2017
H&M by Judy Wright Image by: www.lasvegasimagestudio.com
Lisa Lageschaar, the 62nd Miss Rodeo America, was crowned December 4th, 2016 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas during the WNFR. Lisa hails from Pickton, TX. We had the privilege of working with her for her 1st official photo shoot as Miss Rodeo America 2017. Lisa loves makeup and it was so fun to work with her and talk hair and makeup. Lisa loves eyelashes – so it was easy for us to agree in making up her eyes for the shoot. For her photos, we opted to go with two pairs of lashes on her. This gave her a very dramatic look without the eyes looking droopy or heavy. They say the eyes tell the story. I am a firm believer in this! We chose a soft yet smokey eye to 22 | Cowgirls In Style | February/March 2017
contrast her gorgeous golden hair and warm skin tone. On Lisa, I used Makeup Forever’s HD foundation in shade #123. Their HD foundation is fantastic for photos creating a velvet, full coverage finish. For her brows, I used my favorite go-to eye brow pencil for blonds, MAC’s Lingering. For the highlight on both her brow bone and cheekbones, I chose MAC’s Soft and Gentle. I set her makeup with Urban Decay’s All Nighter setting spray. This is a favorite of mine as it really works and sets the makeup in all kinds of weather.
Lindsay Garpestad Miss Rodeo Montana 2016
Miss Rodeo Montana 2016, Lindsay Garpestad, placed in the top 5 at Miss Rodeo America. Lindsay’s personality is fun and fabulous. She personifies the girlnext-door and so her photo relays this. Her eyes are lit, like her, and so it was easy to play them up. A pinky rose lip color, with bronze and gold eye shadow tones, complimented her hazel/brownish eyes.
Rachel Owens-Sarno Miss Rodeo California 2016
Miss Rodeo California 2016, Rachel OwensSarno, was given the Miss Rodeo America Photogenic award. Rachel’s ivory skin and beautiful dark hair is a striking, classic look, somewhat reminiscent of the silver screen era. One of her best features are her brows… thick yet tamed. For Rachel’s brows, I used a combination of MAC’s eyebrow pencils in Brunette and Stud. For her more porcelain complexion, I used Makeup Forever’s HD foundation in shade #120. For her lips, I chose a pop of a berry color to contrast her skin, MAC’s lip liner in Half Red topped off with NYX’s Mega Shine lip gloss in French Kiss.

Cowgirl Fit
Fitness in 2017
Halter and Horse Fit Working out with your horse can be a fun and rewarding experience. You don’t need the saddle, just the halter and some good shoes.
S
by Paul Dufresne
ome of the best exercising you can do is with your horse right beside you. Keeping it in a halter will give you more control. Begin by moving around the arena, inviting your horse to join you at a relaxed, slow walk (good motivational music comes in handy). Ask your horse to move beside you so you can see the horse in your peripheral vision. The objective is to focus primarily on yourself and just allow the horse to walk with you, but if your horse forges, correct and reposition it. Add a few prepared stops, possibly backing up a step and moving forward again several times until the horse is staying with you. As the connection develops you can start to play with the walk. 26 | Cowgirls In Style | February/March 2017
Invite your horse into the softest jog possible by jogging softly yourself. Focus on light, rhythmical breathing, moving as effortlessly as possible, and keeping arms and shoulders relaxed. Listen to your foot falls and the horse’s. How soft are they? If you stop and then resume the jog, does the horse join you lightly? Focus on your relaxation and fluidity and the horse eventually joins you in similar movement. After 10-15 minutes of this you will have the blood flowing and your muscles warmed up.
Now you can loosen your joints, ligaments, and muscles further. At this point, position your horse behind you so it can observe you and join in if it feels like it. First allow your head to rest to one side then the other, and forward and back several times until your neck relaxes. Then stand with your feet together and bend your ankles, knees, and hips. Slowly swing your hips in a large circle in both directions (loosens and lubricates the joints).
Protein Shakes Try the latest protein shakes from IdealFit. Also, the many meal replacement shakes from IdealShape will curb your appetite and replenish your nutrients. Both are low calorie, low fat and low carb.

Blogging; Know When to Hold em’ The do’s and don’ts of blogging for your business
W
hen you are writing a business blog (b-blog) you need to make sure you do not pass along business secrets. This is as true for employees as well as the business owner. Because each business is based on an individual model developed to highlight the expertise and personality of the business owner, it should not come as a surprise that there are business models in place that are unique to the business.
28 | Cowgirls In Style | February/March 2017
You may feel that the information is not a ‘big deal’, but you should know the information ‘can and will be used against you’ to quote the famed Miranda rights. Essentially you can supply industry information, but should refrain from offering company secrets. You may be surprised at how many individuals will view your blog and many of them will be competitors. Allowing others to have some insider knowledge about your company can negatively affect your business. This is essentially a cardinal rule of business blogging. You may want to develop your own set of policy statements that can assist you in making sure you are putting your best foot forward in your role as a provider of knowledgebased content. Don’t Dance Alone You should also remember that blogging is a bit like tango - it takes two. You can provide information and your visitors can provide comments. Make sure that the information you provide is interesting and will encourage visitors to make a return trip to your blog. Don’t Dance alone
Edit First and Often You should also make sure to edit (or have someone edit for you) your blog. Nothing will be as quick a turn off to visitors as a blog filled with spelling and grammar mistakes. It might make sense to develop your blog in a word processing program and then cut and past that material into your blog. We’ve all come across blogs where it seems that author simply threw it together on the fly. In those moments we make a mental note not to return. There really is no excuse for error filled content in your business blog. If you do notice a mistake, even after original editing, go back and edit your blog as soon as you can. Posts Reflect Who You Are The good news is you don’t have to do extensive research to present content on subject you are unfamiliar with. Feature articles, just stick with content you are familiar with. If you come across something that is well written on a subject you don’t feel comfortable writing about simply provide a direct link for visitors.

Stable Life
Does your Horse need a Turnout Blanket? Even though winter is almost over and spring is around the corner, does your horse still need a turnout blanket? By: Jayne Pedigo In determining whether your horse actually needs a turnout blanket and which type to get for your horse you have to consider the following: • How much time does your horse spend outside? Stabled horses who are turned out for three or four hours during the day may not need a turnout blanket at all. • What are the average winter temperatures in your area? • What is your average winter rainfall? A cold, wet horse is more miserable than a cold, dry horse. In England, because of the excessive winter rains, all of our horses had two turnout rugs. That way, the horses could wear one while the other was drying in the barn. Does it have an adequate field shelter that will block the prevailing winter winds? A sturdy shelter The way to measure a horse for his turnout t h a t will blanket is the same as for stable blankets, anti-sweat sheets or summer sheets. The measurement is taken from the middle of the horses chest, all the way back to the tail.
Measuring for a blanket
protect the horse from wind and rain will go a long way toward keeping the horse warm and comfortable in the winter and some owners may find that their horses don’t need extra protection. What kind of winter coat does your horse normally grow? Remember that just because you feel the cold, it doesn’t mean your horse is uncomfortable. Is your horse fully or partially clipped? A clipped horse will need a blanket whether he is pastured or stabled and will probably need an additional liner for added warmth.
What to look for in a horse blanket and how to measure
Noble Outfitters Guardsman Medium Turnout Photo: The Cheshire Horse
As a rule of thumb, always go for the very best quality you can afford. That bargain blanket may not be such a bargain when the buckle on the leg strap breaks or when your horse is shivering because rain seeped through the seams. Linings can be full or partial, wool or synthetic. If you live in the north, (well anywhere other than Texas, where I live, I suppose) you may want to get one with a thermal lining. In addition, blanket liners can be purchased separately. The deeper a blanket is, the warmer it will be for your horse. Many rugs come with tail guards, which can protect your horse from wind (horses always like to turn their hindquarters to the wind and rain). Turnout blankets may come with bias (or cross) surcingles or with a central surcingle and leg straps. Whichever design the blanket you select has, make sure to adjust the straps correctly for the comfort of your horse and also to help stop the blanket from shifting in use. If your blanket has a central surcingle, be sure to use a pad underneath it where it crosses the spine and also stretch your horse’s forelegs to unwrinkle the skin - the same way you do for the girth. Avoid blankets with the leg straps attached either too high or too far back. Your horse is going to be wearing his turnout blanket at his most active time and it is going to have to withstand all sorts of wear and tear as your horse rolls, runs and plays with his pasture mates. It is important to make sure that it is comfortable for it and that it does not slip.
