ummer has come! I live in the desert and we have been enjoying the 110 degree heat as of late. One of my favorite things about summer is that you can start some new projects around the house! We have included some fun projects that you can make out of wooden pallets. We posted a few projects on our Facebook page and found there was great interest. Check out some of the fun things you can make and get your kids involved. They’ll love it! We are excited to be featuring Kimmie Wall on the cover of this issue of Cowgirls In Style magazine. Kimmie has quickly climbed the ranks of barrel racers in the nation and we are expecting to see her at the National Finals Rodeo in Vegas. Read about her life and cute family. We are loving the new column that we started last issue by make artist, Judy Wright. Judy gives great tips and advice in getting that flawless look. You will want to include her fun tips in your makeup routine. Thanks so much to all our readers and advertisers! We appreciate you all so much! We could not do this without you!

Feeling Your Best as you age 30’s

Prevent Varicose Veins... Get up and get walking! If you have a desk job, get up and walk around often if you can, suggests Natalie Evans, MD, fom Cleveland Clinic. Stroll for a few minutes every hour...

Preserve Your Muscles... Have 30 grams of protein (that’s four ounces of meat, five of nuts) at every meal, says More Magazine. Protein contains the building blocks of muscle and helps preserve it as you age, says Nathan Lerasseur, PhD, a researcher at the MayoClinic. If you are sedentary, you’re already losing at least 2 percent of your muscle per decade, according to various studies. Losing muscle has been associated with a greater risk of falling as you get older. Protein bolsters the muscle-building impact of your regular workouts. 18 | Cowgirls In Style | Summer 2016

40’s

Reduce Belly Fat... Eat 35 almonds a day. Researchers from Penn State recently found that people who consumed that many almonds for six weeks lowered their belly fat by 70 grams -slightly more than a quarter cup. Abdominal fat is more dangerous than the kind you get on your thighs and has been linked to increased risk of heart disease and diabetes. A Rule You might be able to ignore... Several studies have busted the myth that you need to eat breakfast to prevent overeating. “You might be hungrier at lunch if you skip beakfast, but even so, you’ll probably eat the same or fewer calories over the course of the day,” says Andrew Brown, PhD

50’s

Avoid High Blood Pressure...Limited added sugars to 100 calories a day, or about six teaspoons. The more added sugar people eat, the higher their risk of death from cardiovascular disease...

Keep your bones hard.... The last thing you need is losing calcium from your bones at this age, says Bess Dawson-Hughes, MD at Tufts University. In the first five years after meonopause, there’s a period of rapid bone loss. The quantity and the quality of your bones diminish. Some componments of bone start to develop micro-cracks, putting you at increased risk of fractures, especially as you get into your sixties and seventies,”. Aim for no more than 1,500 mg of sodium a day, which is doable if you avoid processed and canned foods...

60’s

Reduce your risk of Chronic Disease... One of the best ways to keep yourself at a lower risk for a chronic disease is to de-stress yourself. Whether it’s immersing yourself in nature, going for a horseback ride, or reading, thee are all a great to get the stress out of your life and relax... A Rule You might be able to ignore... Maintain a BMI of 25 or less. A review found that among adults 65 and older, those with BMI’s from 26 to 29 had the lowest risk of dying. “If overweight people get sick or have a heart attack, they may be more likely to survive and heal more quickly than thin people because fat tissues store extra fuel,” says Noel Merz, MD. Many of her clients are in the pageant industry, but she also loves doing brides, models, television, conventions, runway, commercial and print, etc.

Eyes

Eyes: Think soft taupe’s, warm browns, bronze tones, gold shimmers, etc. Apply shadow to lids, add a chocolate brown pencil liner to top and bottom and gently smudge with ring finger or mall brush for a soft look. Transfer to evening by going over with a black pencil liner to add intensity. Use a vanilla or champagne tone directly under the brow bone. I prefer waterproof or smudge-proof eyeliners and mascaras. Tip: Put black liner on top lid and brown liner on the bottom. This creates a softer, yet still-defined look. Brows: Brows are so important as they shape the face and frame the eyes. Keep them neatly groomed and fill in with your favorite pencil, shadow or pomade. QUICK TIP Tip: Spray brow spooly brush with hairspray and brush over brows to keep them in place.

Lips

Lips: For summer, nudes, pinks, soft plums and peachy shades. Smooth on your favorite color and top with your favorite gloss. A pop of red can be fun as well. QUICK TIP Tip: Use lip liner as both liner and lipstick. Line lips and fill in leaving the center lighter, add gloss for shine or just the liner for a matte look. Setting sprays are wonderful and they definitely help makeup to stay in place longer. Spritz face and fan with hands to help it dry quicker. QUICK TIP Tip: In a pinch, use a light hairspray to set your makeup. Not a super strong one.

Here’s to a wonderful summer! Judy

CIS: What are your fashion likes? Any brands or styles you like? KW: I am endorsed by Ranchdress’n. Their clothes are bright and fun. I enjoy dressing up and being a bit different in the arena. Ranchdress’n sets me apart from the crowd. They always have fun and sassy clothes that just make you feel good. You can find all of their styles for in and out of the arena at Ranchdressn.com CIS: Do you have acreage and other farm animals? How many horses? KW: We have around 10 acres. I have my rodeo horses- Foxy and Stella. We have brood mares and colts. Plus we have several young horses that are ready to go into training. The kids also have their horses. Travis and Stran raise show hogs. The kids have fair animals they raise to sell at the fair. This year they have lambs and hogs. Stran has goats he ropes. And of course we have the rodeo dogs!!! They travel with me on the road and keep me company. The kids sure don’t lack for entertainment of the 4 legged kind at our

house. CIS: What are your goals? KW: My original goal was always to raise and sell successful rodeo horses. But when I found my name in the standings I was faced with a choice- go home or keep rodeoing. So we set a family goal to try and make the NFR. I have always believed in our training ability and the talent of our horses. Nothing would make me happier than for Foxy to get her chance to run down the alley at the Thomas and Mack. She has proven herself over and over again that she is one of the top horses. We have never regretted our choice to go rodeo. We have met some amazing people that will be our friends for a lifetime.
