On Oct. 16, 2013, President Barack Obama signed a deal passed by Congress, ending the partial government shutdown. Cutting it very close, Obama officially signed the deal around 9:30 p.m. the night before the country lost its ability to continue borrowing money. Students make efforts to save the earth at annual festival By DAWNIKA LOPEZ Staff Writer CSUSB celebrates environmental health with its annual EcoFest on Oct. 18, proving that respecting the earth can be fun. This event was full of positive vibes, making new friends, new memories, and protecting our beautiful planet. According to event coordinator Tess Webster-Henry, EcoFest gives people a better understanding of impacts on our environment, the importance of sustainability.
EcoFest showcased solutions to environmental issues that confront our society. The festival is pushed to promote the idea, “One person can make a difference.” Protecting the environment and Earth sustainability is important to keep the world alive and be mindful what we, as people do. “CSUSB is committed in our day to day operations to minimizing waste and pollution, reducing reliance on nonrenewable energy sources, and maintaining a safe and healthful envi-
ronment for our students, employees, and neighbors,” according to ecofest. csusb.edu. CSUSB student Martiza Ramirez enjoyed the fest, “The best part was the variety of creative booths and the best part was the funnel cake.” Ecofest had many activities and performances including carnival games, vendors, live bands, a labyrinth, including a fashion show.
