The 2020 Innovation Print Awards attracted 242 entries across 16 award categories under application-based and print technology. Coincidentally, there are two new additions to the new award. The first being the “Best Use of Creative Design” under print technology. This new category allows users to capture different types of creativity and innovation in digital printing and we aimed to showcase the omnifarious applications of the Iridesse™
Production Press specialty colours and applications. For the first time in the award’s 12-year history, two entries using Fujifilm Jet Press and Acuity equipment were among the winners. The returning panel comprising of printing industry experts from the Asian Print Awards, Paul Callaghan and Major Wong Wing Kwong, assessed all entries based on criteria including print quality, appropriate use of digital technology, degree of innovation, business effectiveness and overall aesthetics. With print quality as the key criteria, there were 17 winners from eight Asian countries who won the first place. “Through this competition, we saw prevalent use of special colours like Gold, Silver and Metallics, and the way in which companies are using these to
enhance the work that they print is truly amazing,” comments Paul Callaghan, Head Judge. “The submitted pieces for our judging were avant garde and are only made possible with the recent technological advancements. You can easily guess what we will be looking at for judging in the years ahead. These new processes definitely added even more punch for print buyers and the products they ultimately put into the market.” Out of 27 winning entries, 18 winning applications were produced using the Iridesse™ Production Press, including the winner of the newly added category, the Special Recognition “Best of the Best” award -- The Print Department from Australia for their winning submission of a Digital Printing Guide.
