Word of WELCOME Dear Final Year Student Congratulations on reaching the last year of your qualification. I wish you continued success and happiness in all you do. You are completing your course in the midst of a global pandemic characterized by uncertainty and disruptions, yet despite these challenges you continue to display tremendous courage, perseverance and determination. These traits will definitely serve you well in all your future endeavors. I want to officially bid you welcome to the Final Year Experience Programme which is designed to cater for the needs of students who is in transition to exit the system into the world of opportunities. It is my hope that this programme will: • Encourage a stronger institutional affinity so that in years to come you remain connected to the university. • Prepare you for adult life outside of the University • Develop skills to enhance both your professional and personal success • Promote and encourage CPUT post graduate studies and opportunities. I trust that you will grab all the learning opportunities that are available to you particularly within the FYEP and maximize its benefits. Overview of the Final Year Experience Programme (FYEP) What
The FYEP is a co-curricular programme open to all final-year and post-graduate students. The programme creates opportunities for students to develop essential professional and personal life skills and capabilities.
The FYEP is a project spear-headed by the Division of Student Affairs and Services, in partnership with various university departments. The DSA’s mandate is to educate students outside the classroom, to support their academic success and enrich the CPUT student experience.

Who
The FYEP hosts an annual calendar of events and different activities are on offer such as live and recorded webinars, videos, and student engagement opportunities. All activities are promoted via the FYEP Webpage, Facebook page, Backboard portal and Newsflash.

Be sure to follow us on these platforms for up to date information on activities.
Students will automatically be enrolled on the FYEP Blackboard portal, where they can track webinar attendance, watch videos, and complete quizzes to accumulate participation points. These points will qualify students to receive a letter of completion.

Department Student Counselling Student Counselling partners with students to journey towards healthy living, wellbeing and life success. Leanie Brits
HOD Student Counselling
Student Counselling provides psychosocial support to all registered students through a variety of services that are geared towards facilitating healthy student adjustment, development, wellbeing, and mental health. The department coordinates the FYEP on behalf of the Division of Student Affairs and Services, and facilitates multiple activities in the annual calendar. Student Counselling specifically focusses on career development activities, and a variety of personal and relational topics.

Disability Unit The DU’s mission is to improve retention and pass rates of students with disabilities. The DU is a multi-functional support service point of the University that strives to implement an accessible and welcoming learning environment for students with disabilities.
The DU’s role within the FYEP is to embrace, enhance and respect diversity and transformation, to provide diversity awareness and to encourage students and staff to become diversity champions. Ms Dellicia de Vos is a diversity champion and financial administrator within the Disability Unit.
Student Development These activities are all aimed at enhancing student life and the student experience. SD plays an instrumental role in developing and overseeing a wide variety of extra mural activities for students.
Mrs Melanie-Ann Hara is a Student Development Officer who always seeks out new ways to create engaging learning and development opportunities for students that will enhance the quality of their student experience and shape lifelong learning.
