Cleethorpes Town has come a long way in its relatively short history. Initially formed in 1998 as Lincolnshire Soccer School, it was the brainchild of former Grimsby Town player Tommy Watson. The team was an immediate success with both boys and girls across every age group and the club began to grow quickly.
The Tigers spent between 2004-07 in the Football Conference
In 2003, the club set up a flagship senior team. In the team's first season within the Lincolnshire League they secured a credible fourth place finish for which the foundations for the future were set. Now rebranded Cleethorpes Town, the club has redeveloped into an important community outlet. With almost 30 teams competing at every level of local and regional football, the Owls are one of the largest clubs in the area and still continues to expand in all areas. The excellent array of teams and high quality coaching saw the club awarded with Football Association Charter Standard Community Club Status thus further underlining the clubs commitment to providing high quality football coaching alongside enjoyment for youngsters.

The development and evolution of Cleethorpes Town Football Club has been spearheaded by the first team. With the arrival of a new manager during the 2010-11 season it saw the club who were languishing in the lower echelons of the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League go on to finish the season in an amazing third place finish. In addition, the club collected the Supplementary Cup by defeating Heckington United in the final at Sincil Bank. 2011-12 season saw us not only become champions of the Lincs League but also the Challenge Cup winners. Additionally the club was accepted into the NCEL. Our first season in the league saw us finish fourth in the table with some impressive victories along the way. It was a steep learning curve for the players, management and staff. The 2013-14 started with a change of management and Marcus Newell was brought in. The season started off at a medium pace but a long unbeaten streak mean the Owls were top of the league at christmas. However, we had a slow slow to the new year and fell 7 points behind with only a handful of games remaining. With the pressure at its highest, others around us felt it most and we managed to secure the title with one game to go. The club is determined to make further strides to improve and fulfil their immediate ambition of becoming North East Lincolnshire's most successful lower league football club.

wicked free kick delivered in by Alex Flett nearly deceived the keeper as every player who went for it missed the ball but Watson was not to be deceived. The referee blew his whistle for the break moments later with the Owls in the lead at the break. With no changes at the interval, the Owls started the second half. There were chances for both sides in the opening exchanges with Cooper firing over after latching onto a Flett flick with just the keeper to beat. Then Phillips showed his marker inside but could not curl his effort past Steer. This miss was in vein though as in the 49th minute, Ashley Lattimore fired the ball home. A wicked deflected from his shot saw the ball curl and loop over the head of Steer and he could not stop the ball from crossing the line. However, the scoreline was not level for long as in the 55th minute an Oglesby cross was flicked on by Barlow into Coopers path. He had the narrowest of angles to squeeze his shot home but he did in style for his 26th of the season. Cooper should have completed his hat trick some four minutes later but he put the ball beyond the far post much to his annoyance.

Further chances fell for Barton as a short corner was played into the feet of Ashley Dexter but his shooting boots were not on as he side footed into the stand behind the goal. The Owls made their first substitute in the 74th minute, bringing on Louis Grant for Jack Barlow. It was a positive move as Grant gave the Owls fresh legs and more impetuous going forward and this nearly paid off when Grant played in Oglesby down the wing but his cross-shot landed on the top of the net rather than in the net as their keeper looked on helpless. A second substitute was made with nine minutes left as Oglesby was replaced by Jack Richardson, making his 33rd appearance of the season, his 17th from off the bench. With Barton pushing for an equaliser in the closing stages of the match, the game opened up and Flett came within a whisker of putting the game to bed but his 50 yard lob not only beat the back peddling keeper but also the crossbar.

As the match entered injury time, Cooper should of sealed the game after Darren Hanslip and Alex Flett linked well to release him but the ball simply would not go into the net as it bobbled wide of the mark. However, it did not really matter as a long ball knocked over the top by Kingston found the untiring Robertson who slotted the ball under the keeper to send the fans into sheer delight.

Marcus Newell made just one change to the starting line-up that won 3-1 over Liversedge at the weekend. Daniel Grant came in for the un-well Luke Mascall and Louis Grant made the bench ahead of Kirk Wheeler. With the rain and wind swirling around Bradley Stadium, it was the visitors who kicked the match off. Nearly from the off, the Owls won the ball and were immediately on the attack. A long ball forward was played to Robertson but the wind took the ball just beyond the youngster. Just 30 seconds later, this time from the right. Oglesby swung the ball in but once more the wind took ahold of the ball and

The chances kept falling for the Owls as they pressed, looking for further goals but luck was on Barton’s side in the 2 3 r d m i n u t e a s Pa u l Belcher’s cleared was hit against the derrière of Cooper only for the ball to be spin fortunately into the keepers’ hands.
A brace from top scorer Marc Cooper helped the Owls to a 4-3 win on Wednesday night against a strong and direct Barton Town Old Boys side at the Bradley Community Stadium. The Owls raced into a 2-0 lead before being pegged back just after half time to 2-2. Then Cooper scored his second and Brody Robertson further increased the lead in injury time. There was one further goal which was scored by Barton with virtually the last kick of the game from the penalty spot to make it 4-3 to the hosts.

it drifted into the hands of Barton’s Rick Watson. Only three minutes later though and their keeper was picking the ball up out of his net. A free kick was won 25 yards out and it was curled home in off the post giving the keeper no chance. The ball seemed to be moving before Oglesby struck it due to the wind. The Barton players complained to the referee but after consultation with the linesman, the goal stood. Almost from the kick-off the scoreline should have been enhanced as a long cross by Robertson was perfectly placed for Cooper but he could only head over the bar from 16 yards out. Then just minutes later, two further chances fell for Cooper. Firstly, he missed a guilt edged chance just outside the box then as the ball was played back over; he lost his footing with just the keeper to beat. It wasn’t long until the pressure came too much for Barton as Robertson did well in the box, and bumfuzzled his way past Gareth Owen and Chris Goken only to be upended by Watson. The referee awarded the penalty and Cooper coolly

Just one minute later the Owls thought that they had scored when Robertson’s cross-shot hit Goken’s leg. The ball bounced up and was heading goal bound but Watson managed to scramble to gain control of the ball before it crossed the line. Having soaked up a lot of Owls pressure, Barton looked to get back into the game utilizing longs ball and using the wind to good effect. This was evident as they pulled a goal back in the 34th minute when Scott Phillips latched onto a long ball and placed the ball into the far corner giving Damien Steer little hope of saving it. Barton should have been level just 90 seconds later as Louis Kirk tried to finish off a sleek move but his curling effort from 25 yards out was just inches to high. A further chance fell to the Swans in the 39th minute as Danny Chambers sprinted onto a through ball with just Steer to beat. However the veteran keeper used all his knowledge in clinging onto the ball as Chambers attempted to round the keeper. At the other end, the Owls seemed to be struggling to keep position but when they did they looked dangerous. With just two minutes of the half remaining a

GOOD afternoon and welcome back to The Bradley Community Stadium for the visit of Worksop Town in the NCEL Premier Division...
It is disappointing to miss a weekend when on such a good run as we are, but thankfully we are back in business this week with our tip to Pickering last Tuesday and of course today's mouth watering game. I'd like to welcome the Worksop players, management, committee and of course the fans. I hope you have an enjoyable afternoon on your first visit to the Bradley FDC. As I said we are on a fantastic run and hopefully we can continue this in what

is Marcus Newell's 100th game in charge. Today's game will not be easy as Worksop have quality throughout the side and as we saw in the game at Sandy Lane they like to get it down and play football. So hopefully it should be a very entertaining affair. I have said this before but we have such a great bond at this football club like no other and this certainly was evident when talking to one of the players last weekend. I won't go into too much detail but his love for pulling
on the blue and black shirt was amazing to hear and that is what this football club is about. Once Clee To w n h a s t o u c h e d y o u nothing else matters! I hope you all enjoy today's game.

U n d e r 9 ’ s BJB vs Swift Auto Sunday saw the second Cleethorpes Town derby between the U9 Swift Autos’s and BJB teams. With the first meeting between the two teams this season ending in a draw they all knew it was going to be a tight game. With the frost from the night before they knew it would be difficult conditions, but fortunately it had thawed out so it wasn’t as bad to start with. Both teams started off strong with some great football played. There was plenty of battling and some strong
challenges from both sides.. Swift Auto’s looked the most promising to score in the first half with some shots and efforts from their wingers and strikers, but the defence held them out and the BJB keeper pulled out some fantastic saves which kept them at bay. As the game went on, condition of the pitch worse, but the attitude effort from all the players improved.
the got and only
The second half brought more efforts on goal and there was some great efforts from both teams with both teams scoring, and both keepers pulling off some great saves. There were some fantastic battles on the pitch between certain players who looked as if they were giving absolutely everything they could, with mud going everywhere and players slipping over and getting straight back up. All in all it was a fantastic ga me of foot ba ll wit h possibly everything you could imagine in a game; it was played in great spirit from both teams. Players from both clubs are a credit to Cleethorpes T o w n s Junior section and there is some extremely promising talent coming through. By Jono Mason

ASSISTANT MANAGER’S NOTES
P O W E L L GOOD evening to you and welcome to the Bradley Community Stadium for our NCEL Premier Division clash with Worksop Town... We have only had one game in over two weeks as we had a postponement and then a free weekend. We have got some good quality training in during that time and mixed it up a little putting in a session on the beach. A few lads had a run out for in t h e
Development side to get some 90 minutes under the belts of players who needed it. We played Worksop back in late September and I thought they were the best footballing side we h a v e p l a y e d . We need to close them down early and press them early high up the pitch. They have several players w h o have
played at a high level but their past clubs and reputations don't bother me at all. They are at this level for a reason so we play everyone on an even level. Let's not forget we have some very talented
The Owl 08
players who could be playing a lot higher. I didn't realise until I was told earlier this week that today is our 100th game in charge of the First Team. t What has been achieved in the time is fantastic. Marcus is great to work for and Dave and myself are happy to have worked with “THE GENERAL” in this successful period in the clubs history. Hope you enjoy the game and hope to see you back here again in the near future. UP THE OWLS! Matthew Powell Assistant Manager

With Jack Gibbons in goal, Josh Garner and Harry Crawford at wingback, Tom Wingate was joined at centre back with 16 year old Joel Mann at centre back. Dale Pratt operated just in front of back four with Paul Jones and James Sawdon centre mid and Connor Southern just off the front two of Mikey Milne and Jonny Willis. A couple of minutes into the game the Owls found themselves one down after a through ball evaded their back four leaving the Caistor forward an easy chance to slot the ball past Gibbons. The goal seemed to settle the Owls down with debutante Mann settling into the game well alongside Wingate. Jones had an attempt from a Sawdon corner cleared of the line as they pressed until Southern was brought down in the area with Captain Pratt scoring from the spot.

A great stop from Gibbons in the Owls goal and then a quality last man tackle from Mann stopped Caistor getting back in front. After great work from Milne in winning the ball back and giving the ball to Jones who in turn slid Southern in one on one which saw Southern place the ball past the Caistor keeper to take the Owls in 2-1 at half time. The second half saw Caistor break through were Wingate was unluckily adjudged to have caught the Caistor forward in the box resulting in a penalty being awarded which the Caistor forward sent Gibbons the wrong way to make it 2-2. Danny O'Hare came on for his debut for John Willis and Mann took a knock which saw Mackenzie Overend come on in his place . As the game ticked on Gibbons made a great save changing direction after a deflection off Wingate could have caught him out. Brandon Wood made his debut coming on for the tireless and impressive Milne. The winner came after
Joel Mann making his “A” team debut. Southern was brought down out on the left, which saw Southern outfox the keeper sending him the wrong way and find the top corner for 3-2. The Owls managed to run the clock down and seal the win in a game where either side could have nicked it.

With two debutants at 16 years of age, Joel Mann and Brandon Wood were very promising which are the sign of things too come was very pleasing and in total 9 of the 14 where 21 or under is pleasing too see. Jack Gibbons makes an important save early on in the match.

Cleethorpes AKP produced yet another 2nd half comeback as they overcame Skegness United at the Linden Homes Club. The first half saw the hosts enjoying the majority of the possession of the ball but they found themselves behind at the break. 1-0 down at half time but with the rain starting to fall the Development side again showed endeavor as they pressed to get back in the game. The Owls did more than that hitting three goals with under 18’s player Luke Aldrich, journey man Lobendhan who came on as sub and Jacob Wilson adding to his goal from last week all hitting the back of the net.

clear that a new ground of a more central situation was a priority. This was resolved in 1891 when the Lord of the Manor, by this time the Duke of Newcastle, decided to sell the Worksop Manor Estate to Mr John Robinson who later became Sir John of Daybrook and Home Brewery fame. William Allen and his committee intervened and obtained the lease on land in the centre of the town which was bounded by Hardy Street, Allen Street, King Street and the River Ryton. Known as Bridge Meadow, the ground was enclosed by a wooden fence with the River Ryton as its northern boundary. Football matches were played on the eastern side, the western portion was reserved for cricket and there was also a quarter mile cycle track, which led to Whit

In the mid-1960s Worksop won the Midland League and became founder members of the Northern Premier League. Sadly after one season Worksop were relegated back to the Midland League. (Quarter-Finals) formed football club some stability again, culminating in re-entry into the Northern Premier League. The highlight of the seventies came when Worksop reached the FA Cup First Round and were drawn away to Barnsley on Saturday 25 November 1978. Although the Tigers lost by a 5-1 margin with the goal being scored by Kevin Woods, other famous names in that game included Alan Clarke (player manager), Peter Springett (goalkeeper), Graham Pugh, John Saunders (later to become Worksop's centre half) and Mick McCarthy the current manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers. RECENT HISTORY 2009-10 saw the Tigers play their home games at Ilkeston Town which became a turbulent season for the tigers. It started with promise and ended almost in
d i s a s t e r, p l a y e r s c o m i n g a n d going because of financial problems. John Hepworth [chairman] decided that he had done all he could do and handed the club over to Jason Clark. 2010-11 saw Jason at the helm and under his guidance we had a good season, playing at Retford United. He appointed Martin McIntosh as first team manager part way through the season and only just failed to get a playoff place. 2011-12 The Tigers were back in town after three years on the road, back at Sandy Lane, sharing with the new owners Parramore Sports and hoping to do well. A Sheffield Senior Cup victory over Frickley at Hillsborough augured well for the future.
CleethorpesTownFC
2012-13 brought another new manager in Simon Clark looking to improve on recent performances, but after looking good for a play-off place the team faded away to finish 9th and he departed. Last season was the first for new Manager Mark Shaw who performed miracles on a reduced budget getting the team into the promotion play off places by finishing fourth. A defeat at AFC Fylde saw the hopes fade but just a short time later news broke that club backer Jason Clark was leaving and that the Board had resigned from the Northern Premier League. This season, then, finds the club making its bow at Step 5 in the Premier Division of the Northern Counties East League where we hope to make lots of new friends and rejoice in the fact that we are still playing football!

“I bet Cooey £20 I'd score more than him this season, think it's fair to say I've lost that bet.”
Chris, you have played 12 times for the Owls, scoring on 6 occasions and helped us lift the NCEL Division One trophy last year with some important goals. Since then, you have made 2 substitute appearances at the beginning of the season before getting injured. Tell us about the injury and how it occurred? The injury is in my right knee; I've torn my medial ligament and stretched my cruciate ligament! The injury occurred when over-stretching for a ball and the opponent player fell on the outside of my leg whilst planted, which was quite innocuous but has unfortunately kept me out for the season. How long do you think it will take you to recover from the injury? The timeline given for recovery was 3-6 months but it's taking a lot longer than that unfortunately. I've seen several knee specialists and physiotherapists but it's looking likely that the start of next season will be when I return. How much have you missed played? I've missed playing massively! Nothing beats winning football matches and scoring goals, so, it's been a difficult season. From what you have seen of the Owls this season, how would you sum it up so far? The lads have done fantastic! 2nd in the league, 4th round of the league cup and the FA Cup and Vase run. I'm on the website every other day and twitter to keep in touch with results, match reports etc. It'd be class if the lads could win a trophy this year, the league cup or to win the league again and go on to play Evo-Stik football next year. I'm sure it's only a matter of time, either way. Some fans may not recognise you or know of your capabilities.you have 50 words max.sell yourself to us. As you've mentioned earlier, 6 goals in 12 games and helping the team win the league, isn't too bad. I'm just a natural goal-scorer, that's how I would describe myself. I'm at my best when I'm in the oppositions box.
The Owl 20
You have scored six times for the Owls like mentioned before, which one of the goals was the best for you? I can't pick a best goal because whether it's a 30 yard screamer or a tap in, they're all the same and mean the same. The most important would have been away at Shaw Lane last year, I had a nightmare game and missed a couple of easy chances earlier in the game so to score to put us 1-0 was a great feeling in front of a good away following. Another important goal was away at Clipstone, we were 1-0 and it was a tight game and we needed to win to stay top of the league. At the time Marcus said to me during the second half, 'Chris we need a goal' so, to be able to pop up with the 2nd to make it 2-0 was pleasing.
FACT FILE:
If you had to liken your style of play to anyone else's, who would it be? I'm not sure to be honest. I'll say Diego Costa but I'm not as angry, I've only picked him because he's Chelsea's striker. With you not being a local lad, do you find it hard to keep in regular contact with the lads? I've not had any real contact with the lads to be honest, as you've mentioned I'm not local so it can be difficult. I still follow a lot of the lads on twitter and other social media so I see what's going on. You have a games to goals ratio which is only bettered by Marc Cooper (1:1.72) in Cleethorpes Town history, this compared to your 1:2, how does this make you feel? Yeah, it's pleasing obviously! I bet Cooey £20 I'd score more than him this season, think it's fair to say I've lost that bet. Whats your final message to the fans reading this? Just to continue supporting the lads, home and away! I've seen a few videos of 'the drum' in action at away games and that's great, gives the lads a lift when playing, or I know it would me.
