Message from Mrs Conrad

It was wonderful to welcome so many of you to our Harvest Festivals this week. The girls delighted us with a selection of thought provoking songs, poems and dramatic performances that reminded us of the beauty of God’s creation and gave us some powerful messages about how we should look after our planet. Well done to everyone involved and special thanks to Mrs Gibson and Mrs Harris for all their hard work in preparing the girls for these special events. May I also take this opportunity to thank you for your incredible generosity in donating items for Dorking foodbank; I know these will be greatly appreciated by many local families in need.

I hope that you all have a restful half term and look forward to hearing about what the girls got up to when we return.

Winter Uniform

All the girls should return to school after half term in their winter uniform.

Fresh School Photography will be in school on Wednesday 9th November to take individual and sibling photographs. If your daughter/s have swimming or games their photograph/s will be taken before these lessons. If you have a child in the Senior School, we will be contacting you separately about sibling photographs with them.

Key Dates—2022/3

As outlined in the Parent Handbook, and reiterated at the Parent Welcome Reception, there are three key dates in the school calendar that are compulsory for all the girls to attend. This is to help them understand the importance of team work and collaborative responsibility as these are events where they are all involved and need to support each other.

These dates are as follows:

Spring Concert Thursday 23rd March, 18.30 to 19.30

Prep School Prize Giving Thursday 6th July, 19.00 to 20.00

We would be grateful if you could keep these dates free so that all girls can be present at these important community events.

‘Save our Planet’

Rosalind read out her beautiful poem ’Save our Planet’ in assembly last week. It was an important message for us all. Don’t dump plastic in the sea, Keep it clean for you and me, Think before you throw rubbish away, Recycle, to use it in another way. Before you get in your car, think can I walk? Is it far? Doing little things to help every day Saves our planet in a really big way.

During topic lessons, they followed instructions for creating their own woolly mammoths out of milk bottles, ensuring they followed the instructions in chronological order. What fun we had!

Music News

Musicians of the Week

Year 3 Olivia L for consistent good work in recorder class and excellent progress in rhythm reading.

Year 5 have been having fun with ukuleles! They can now play 4 chords which means that we have been able to play along to many of songs that we know. The girls are working on strumming patterns and although we have had some sore fingers from all the practising, Mrs Harris is thrilled with their progress!

Year 3—Reminder

I would be grateful if parents could remind the Year 3 girls to bring in their recorders and books on a Thursday and Year 6 girls to bring in headphones for keyboard lessons on a Tuesday. Many thanks.

Instrumental Lessons

We still have some spaces for lessons and some instruments that can be hired from the school. If you would like to try out any instruments or need any more information, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs Harris.

This Week

It was wonderful to launch of Christmas Shoebox Appeal this week! As in previous years, we are supporting ‘Children in Distress’ to provide boxes of joy to babies, children, young people and the elderly in Romania and Eastern Europe. In Chapel this week, we heard a presentation about how to prepare our boxes. Full details have been given to every pupil in the school. Further details have been emailed out to all families. Our aim this year is to smash our target from last year and to collect at least 300 shoeboxes across the whole school. What a wonderful gift this would be!!

We now have a four week period to prepare, fill and return our shoeboxes. This gives us the whole of the half-term break and then two weeks after the break to complete our shoeboxes. The boxes will then be collected and will leave the school site on Friday, 11th November. Please ensure that your boxes are returned then (together with the £2 donation towards the cost of transport and distribution). This is a wonderful project as it is a genuine example of us giving without expecting anything in return an individual in need who we will never meet will receive a gift of joy this Christmas. Can we encourage every member of the school community to prepare and return a shoebox as part of their preparations for the great feast of Christmas. Thank you, in advance, for all your help and support!!

Have a lovely October Half Term!

STE have had a new staff member join the team called Maddi, her first day was on Tuesday. She has worked on other types of livery and competition yards before coming here.

The arena was re graded on Monday and is now level and much nicer to ride in! After the very dry summer the carpet got all fluffy so it’s now nice to walk in without getting carpet fluff stuck to your shoes!

The ponies have started to be clipped this week. Clipping is when the horse’s coat gets shaved off in different styles so that they don’t get too hot in the winter months. It also makes them easier to groom!

The horse of the week is… Bobby!

NSEA News

Good luck to everyone heading out to compete this Saturday, but also the best of luck to the teams who are heading to the NSEA Championships over the half term!!

The October dates are ready to book, we are running Pony Mornings, Pony Afternoons and also adhoc lessons.
