Message from Mrs Conrad

Tomorrow is the Feast of St Thérèse of Lisieux, the saint our school is named after. We celebrated her Feast today whilst we were all in school and so I would like to wish you all a very happy Feast Day!

To celebrate this wonderful occasion, we began the morning with a lovely Mass in the Mairlot Hall with the Senior School. Our Head Girl, Peyton, read St Paul’s letter to the Corinthians 13:4 7 on the theme of love, exceptionally well; the Chamber Choir sang Will Todd’s anthem ‘Ave Verum’ beautifully; Ella accompanied the hymn ‘Here I am to Worship’ on the drums, playing with great sensitivity and accuracy; and the girls who had recently made their first holy communion brought up the offertory gifts. Huge thanks must go to Mrs Harris, Deacon Simon and Fr Stephen for preparing the girls and making our service so special.

For the rest of the day, there have been many different treats including cakes at break time, ice cream at lunchtime and street dance workshops with the fabulous ‘Urban Strides’ dance company.

St Therese is known for her ‘Little Way’ where she encourages us all to do ‘Little things with great love’. To share a friendly smile or a kindly word can really make a difference to those around us and if everyone were to do this, wouldn’t the world be a better place!

Winter Uniform

All the girls should return to school after half term in their winter uniform.

Kit Requests

Please may we ask you to help the girls to ensure that they have the correct sports kit in school for their lessons and clubs? We understand that it is not always easy for all parents to bring in forgotten items during the school day and we want to encourage the girls to take responsibility for their belongings and develop their organisational skills. Therefore, we will no longer be contacting home to ask parents to bring in forgotten items. The girls will take part in the parts of the lesson that they can, with the kit that they have, but they may miss out when specific kit is needed.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

The girls enjoyed a special cake at breaktime today in return for a donation to this very important cause. Thank you for your support!

Feast Day

We celebrated our Feast Day today with a Whole School Mass, a dance workshop for all the girls and delicious ice creams for dessert.

Year 3—Stone Age Art

As part of their topic, ‘Tribal Tales’, Year 3 created their own Neanderthal cave art, based on those made over 40,000 years ago. They explored the negative space around the outside of their handprints and were encouraged to find different ways to make marks, for example, using their knuckles, side of their hands or fingers and by overlapping and blending chalks. It was a messy but fun afternoon!

Year 4—Sealife Trip

This week, as part of their Blue Abyss topic, the Year 4 girls set sail on a deep sea exploration! In a very windy Brighton town, the divers ventured into the SeaLife Centre. During their visit to the aquarium, as well as an eyeopening Ocean Pollution workshop, the girls met many different species of underwater creatures. From sting rays to starfish, and the coral reef to the rainforest, there was no shortage of wonder amongst the year group. Apart from finding both Nemo AND Dory, the most exciting thing of all was touching a starfish!

European Day of Languages

On Monday, we celebrated the European day of languages. this allowed us to reflect on why we learn a language. To deepen their understanding of French culture, Year 3 were given the challenge to try some French food that they had never tried before.

Félicitations to Elizabeth who relished the delights of cheese Fondue served with saucisson. Bravo, Elizabeth!

This dish originally comes from Switzerland, as a way to use hardened cheese and stale bread during the winter months. Cheese fondue might be known as a Swiss creation after all, it is the country's national dish but fondue savoyarde also hails from the French Alps region of Savoie, a warming dish many of you will know. Bon appétit!

This Week

It was a joy for us today to celebrate the feast of our Patron Saint, Thérèse of Lisieux. The highlight of the day was our celebration of Mass with the whole community joining together. Huge thanks goes to all those who contributed - the servers, readers, musicians, the staff. It was a wonderful team effort!

Particular thanks go to Fr Stephen for coming to celebrate Mass with us. It was also a joy to be able to welcome members of the Governing Body, Parents and parishioners to celebrate with us.

During his sermon Fr Stephen reflected on the many references to ‘child’ within our liturgy. He noted that Thérèse’s name in the convent was Sr Thérèse of the Child Jesus. And our Gospel referenced that occasion when Jesus reminds us that in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven we much become like a child. What does this mean? He drew on the idea that we have two ways of describing being a child. One the one hand we can be childish, while on the other we can be child like. Clearly the first is not what Jesus meant! To be childish is to make ourselves the centre of our own universe, to assume that everything revolves around us, to put our needs and wants at the top of our list of priorities. To be child like is very much the opposite. It is to recognise how we need to trust and have faith in a loving God to provide all that we need, to recognise that our life is not about us but rather about how we serve others, to put ourselves in the gracious hands of God. Indeed, if we are to be adult, if we are to be fully human, we must first learn to be child like and to place ourselves before the loving gaze of our heavenly father. This was what Thérèse did so very successfully, allowing herself to be a minister of God’s love to every person she met. Let us, as we celebrate her feast day learn from her example and her most profound child like faith. St Teresa, pray for us!

We hope that you are all staying warm and dry! The ponies have been growing their winter coats and are getting very fluffy!

As the weather is so variable at the moment, please make sure that you come with a jumper (no hoodies!) and/or a coat to wear when it’s chilly out. As we are on top of a hill, we get a bit of a cold wind when riding in the arena!

A reminder that if you wish to cancel a lesson, we do require 48hrs notice or more in order to offer credit. Any later and we are unable to fill the slot with a rider for a catch up lesson or off the waitlist.

Autumn Term Riding Dates

Lessons run from: Tuesday 20th September to Saturday 15th October

Half Term Monday 17th October to Sunday 30th October

Lessons run from: Monday 31st October to Saturday 10th December

Adhoc / Catch up lessons w/c 12th December

The ponies had something different happen this week as a bitting specialist came and fitted five of the ponies for new bits! Bits are a part of the bridle that goes in their mouth, and it’s very important to make sure that they fit and are comfortable for the horses.

The first week of termly lessons have been a success and were a lot of fun for everyone!

The horse of the week is Roxy!

~ Libby C

The October dates are ready to book, we are running Pony Mornings, Pony Afternoons but also adhoc lessons.

So please check out bookings site to book your spaces now!
