Explore Lectures
As you are aware, we are celebrating the value of Intellect this year. When we speak of ‘Intellect’, we strive to explore different spheres and topics beyond the curriculum – and just for the sheer joy of it.
Under this guise, we have organised a fabulous series of lectures on a vast and diverse range of topics to run throughout the rest of the academic year. Our eminent and exciting speakers will aim to stimulate curiosity and encourage us all (parents, friends, family and staff) to explore something new.
The lectures will take place on Monday or Tuesday evenings, starting in January. They will be held in the Sixth Form Lecture Theatre and are open to all, free of charge. Nibbles and drinks will be served from 5:30pm for a 6pm start and a 7pm finish.

Dance Competition
The other day I went to Blackpool for a dance competition. I was in three dances called “I Got My Mind Set On You”, “Budapest” and “Light the Sky”. It was busy and there were lots of countries represented in one building. In one of our dances, we got Judges Choice Award, and our team was very joyful. I cannot wait for the next competition.
Poppy – Year 6
5MK—Class Assembly
5MK took us on a journey back in time to 1969 and the first moon landing. We met Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins who retold the story of their amazing space adventure. With songs, poems and an exciting ‘space race’ quiz, we were kept entertained, as we learnt about the incredible events of July 1969.
Eco and Gardening Club
During Eco and Gardening Club, the girls made homemade bird seed cakes using grated cheese, oats, breadcrumbs, suet mix and sultanas. Once they had mixed all the ingredients together, the girls added water. Before the mixture was added to the recycled yoghurt pots, they carefully held a piece of string in the pot in order to be able to hang it on a branch in the playground. The bird seed cake mixture went into the fridge overnight and the girls hung their pots during break time the following day.
If you would like to make one of these cakes for your garden, here is the link to the website we used: https://www.rspb.org.uk/fun-and-learning/for-kids/games-and-activities/activities/make-a-speedy-bird-cake/
Please take care if you have anyone allergic to the ingredients or dogs who are allergic to the sultanas.
Year 6—Hamlet
Following the fabulous performance from Young Shakespeare last Friday, the girls in Year 6 have had great fun re-enacting the story of Hamlet, summarising the plot in to eight key events using the app 'Comic Life'. They have also explored the themes of tragedy, love and revenge ready for some discursive writing next week.
Music News
Musicians of the Week
Year 3—Skyla N for excellent focus and wonderful singing – keep it up Skyla!
Year 4 Eleanor B for wonderful singing and fantastic moves in our LCGC workshop!
Year 5—Perla L for perfect chord progressions and precise strumming in our ukulele lessons.
Year 6—Iola M for amazing singing and being an asset to our school on our trip to Cranmore.
London Gospel Community Choir
On Thursday some girls from Chamber Choir and St Teresa’s Singers were lucky enough to be invited to Cranmore to take part in a workshop with the London Community Gospel Choir. They worked with Bazil Meade the founder of the choir during the day and learned some songs in 3-part harmony as well as the history of gospel music. In the evening they performed alongside the choir and watched the professionals at work–an amazing evening they will never forget!
Thank you!

This Week
Jesus begins his teaching ministry in Matthew’s gospel with the Sermon on the Mount. He begins by setting out his manifesto for the values that will be evident within the Kingdom of God in that beautiful passage known as the Beatitudes. Significantly, each of the eight statements of the Beatitudes begin with the invitation of participate in the blessing associated with that kingdom, that is, ‘happiness.’ It is worth reflecting on what we mean by ‘happiness’ - What makes us truly happy? We will often refer to things that we imagine will bring us happiness. Great examples might be a slice of delicious chocolate cake or perhaps a scoop of ice cream. Some treats even have the promise of happiness in their names - think, a Happy Meal for example. But there are two problems with these seeming sources of happiness. Firstly, the ‘happiness’ they offer is short-lived, and then, if we were to try and extend this happinesspresumably by partaking more frequently, the effect is more likely to be indigestion or poor health - the very opposite of happiness. True happiness should bring about a permanent change, and that happiness should grow the more we partake. The Beatitudes fulfil both of these requirements. They offer a vision of happiness that is both guaranteed and that promises to increase the more you engage. Whether as a peacemaker, through comforting the poor and those who mourn, meeting the needs of others, standing up for what is just and right, or facing the world with humility and mercy, Jesus’ revolutionary vision of the kingdom confronts the values of this world that so frequently looks only for the quick fix, and replaces it with a model of service to God and to our neighbour that not only brings happiness here and now, but enables us to partake in the building of his kingdom.
We hope the school community enjoys the new wooden benches that have been placed by the Nelson Pavilion - they look fantastic!

We are so pleased that the weather warmed up again and hope it stays that way!
If you don’t have any plans over the February Half Term, then do come and join us for a private lesson or on one of our Pony Mornings or Afternoons!

The arena at STE finally defrosted so ponies have been back in work for the past two weeks. We’re hoping the nice weather will continue as the ponies are loving it!! Thankfully, Barney has stopped trying to escape the field to run around the school grounds!
The horse of the week is Bobby!
