Issue 6
Dear Parents,
Summer Term
7th June 2024
After the rather frenetic end to last half term, with residentials galore; cricket, swimming, tennis, athletics and aquathlons; workshops, parent meetings, Trust events, Mass and more; this half term looks to be even busier. So, welcome back, buckle up and by the time you read this there will only be four weeks left!
This week we have enjoyed Inter-House Swimming Galas (well done Year 4 for most parent support and loudest cheering!), Tennis and Cricket matches, athletics fixtures, Mathematics competition, Year 6 French Onatti production, New Parents Information event, Year 5 parents Senior School Transition event, Prep School Summer Assessments, Class Photos and, amongst all that, we squeezed in excellent teaching and learning which culminated in many certificates and awards in this morning’s Celebration Assembly.
Next week we are looking forward to Sixth Form girls running our Monday assembly, LAMDA examinations, our Judaism workshop, Year 3 travelling back to ancient Roman Britain with their trip to Fishbourne Palace, and plenty of sporting fixtures, with the week culminating at the FOST Regency Ball.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and remember: In every day, there are 1,440 minutes. That means we have 1,440 daily opportunities to make a positive impact. Les Brown, Author
Best Wishes,
Gareth Tindall
New Parents Information Evening
On Wednesday 5th June, we welcomed seven of our new families to the Prep School with a delightful event which involved a short welcome presentation talk from Mr Tindall and Mrs Harris, followed by BBQ, drinks, socialising and fun for the parents and new girls. The girls accepted Mr Tindall’s bean bag tossing challenge but soon they were running around and enjoying the delights of the sun-soaked Mairlot Lawn like they had always belonged here – which they now do and always will.

SATRO:
On Wednesday, a group of girls from Year 5 and 6 took part in the SATRO problem solving event at St Catherine's. They had to use a range of skills to build a freestanding skyscraper, at least 1m tall, that would support the weight of an egg. To add to the challenge, they had to use the minimum number of parts as each component carried a cost. The challenge was to build the cheapest tower, therefore the architects and engineers had to consider their budget! A multitude of skills were required including problem solving, calculating and even budgeting to solve the problem that they were facing. Whilst there, the girls worked fantastically, showing super listening skills, problem solving, resilience and team work. Well done!

Inter House Swim Gala
This week we were delighted to host our annual Prep School Inter House Swim Gala. This is an event where the girls can celebrate and showcase the skills learnt during lessons this year. Last year was such a success that expectations were high, and this year did not disappoint. Throughout the year, every pupil has worked hard to learn new water skills and develop their strokes. The girls' swimming techniques were very impressive, as was their team spirit - positively encouraging their friends and peers. The results were as follows:
Year 3: 1st place – St Benedict , 2nd place – St Francis, 3rd place – St Ignatius and 4th place - St Dominic.
Year 4: 1st place – St Francis, 2nd place – St Benedict, 3rd place – St Dominic and 4th place - St Ignatius.
Year 5: 1st place – St Benedict, 2nd place - St Dominic, 3rd place - St Ignatius and 4th place - St Francis.
Year 6: 1st place - St Dominic, 2nd place - St Francis, 3rd place - St Ignatius & St Benedict
Thank you to all the parents who came to support on the day; you really made the morning special for the girls and the atmosphere was amazing!
Huge thanks to Mrs Fogwill and the PE department for their hard work throughout the year and hosting a very polished event.

U8 & U9Tennis
Tennis was back with a bang on Monday with a small team from the U8&9s as they travelled to CLFS. The girls got a lot of practice prior to starting so they were all raring to go. All the matches were played in singles format, which was excellent exposure for the team and produced some excellent rallies and points. All the girls won at least 2 matches each, which was a great result for them. We look forward to seeing them all back on court shortly.
U11Tennis
On Tuesday the U11 Tennis team travelled to Downsend to take on their U12 team. There were some amazing rallies and accurate serving. The team played outstandingly well and there was a mix of results. Mrs Rowcliffe was very proud of the team for rising to the challenge of playing against opponents from the year above. Well done to Rachel, Lyla, Abi, Olivia, Lilia-anna and Sienna.
