Message from the Headmaster
Our families have recently received a copy of our Cranmorian which gives a wonderful insight into the many events that took place throughout the previous academic year. This year will prove to be equally exciting with many opportunities for our pupils. Our dedicated CPA also have many events planned for our parents which started with the quiz last Friday evening. Everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed the event, not least the winning SLT team; I will say no more! We are looking forward to the ever popular annual fireworks which will take place on Saturday 5th November. In addition, there are plans for a spring ball and camping in the summer term. My sincere gratitude to all the volunteers who work incredibly hard to organise these events.
Year 1 pupils put their engineering skills to use when they designed and created their own Lego sea creatures during their visit to Legoland. Year 2 built on what they have learnt in their castles topic when they attended Windsor castle this week. Well done to the selected pupils from Year 3 who have stepped up for their first cross country fixture.
Teamwork was reinforced during teambuilding sessions for the Upper Prep pupils. Pupils in Years 5 and 6 also enjoyed a visit from author David Farr, a leading UK screenwriter and director for film, TV and theatre who signed copies of his debut novel for children, The Book of Stolen Dreams. Cranmore was one of only six schools across the UK that David has chosen to visit. I was proud of the sportsmanship and competitive spirit displayed by our U9C team who won their tournament at Danes Hill whilst the rest of the year group won three out of their four matches against Downsend. Year 6 football teams enjoyed wins over all their opponents this week.
The very best of luck to our skiers this week at the ESSKIA nationals in Norwich.

Author Visit for Years 5 and 6 with David Farr
Our Year 5 and 6 pupils were treated to a wonderful visit from author David Farr on Tuesday this week. He talked about the inspiration behind his desire to become a children’s author, namely the experiences of his German Jewish great grandparents who helped their children to escape from Germany to England during World War Two. To find out more about this extraordinary story, you can visit the BookTrust website:

The pupils were enthralled by his talk as David provided an interactive and highly educational talk. The Book of Stolen Dreams is David’s first children’s book and we are eagerly anticipating the sequel which comes out in 2023.

This Week’s House Cup Winners
Congratulations to Morton House in both the Upper Prep and Borelli House in the Lower Prep for winning the House Cups this week!
Year 1 Trip to Legoland
This week Reception have been talking about what they want to be when they grow up. The children then did some wonderful sentence writing really focusing on their letter formation. What an amazing job they all did! We are so proud of you.
Our Year 1 pupils went to Legoland where they developed their STEM knowledge through designing and building their own sea creatures and habitat. The children were then able to see the real creatures by boarding a submarine and going through an aquarium!

Year 1 learn about snorkelling
Mrs Rudduck brought in her snorkelling gear and 1AB loved hearing about her adventures under the sea. She also showed them how the gear works and how to wear it. This was perfect for our topic on Oceans.

Nursery News
This week the Nursery children have participated in Box Craft, which has enabled them to develop their scissor skills whilst creating some interesting objects! At Forest School they enjoyed exploring the grounds searching for mini beasts with their magnifying glasses. The Pre Nursery children have been involved with exploratory play using shaving foam, conkers and paint. They also had great fun making lots of cakes and mud pies in the Mud Kitchen!

Sports Roundup
At the end of last week our U8s played against both Cranleigh and Feltonfleet. Our U11s and U9s featured very well in the Saturday tournaments taking place at Feltonfleet and Downsend respectively. Our U9C won the Football C tournament at Danes Hill on Monday playing some great football. At the same time, the rest of our U9s were playing Downsend with Cranmore winning 3 and drawing 1. On Tuesday, our U11s had a clean sweep against Danes Hill. Good luck to our ski squad featuring in the ESSKIA Finals, Norwich.

Sacraments
Thought for the week:
Will you accept the love and gifts of God given through the sacraments?
Sacraments
Lord Jesus Christ, when I am uncertain about what I should do, guide me along your path. You keep my path straight. When I do not know which way to turn, teach me your ways. Help me to be attentive to your voice as you guide me through life. Your word is a lamp for my feet. Shine the light of your love into my confusion. Bring clarity to my mind.
Through your mighty name.
Amen.
REFLECTION
Children in Year 3 are invited to approach their parish priest, if they are interested in preparing for their First Holy Communion this school year. Children in Year 9 are also invited to contact their parish priest regarding preparation for Confirmation. If you missed First Holy Communion or Confirmation preparations over recent years then you are also welcome to contact your parish. In the words of Pope Francis, “Making your First Communion shows that you want to be closer to Jesus every day, to grow in friendship with Him and to lead other people to share in the joy He wants us to feel.”
Let us Pray: Our Father Hail Mary 1 minute silence
“
The seven sacraments touch all stages and all important moments of Christian life.”
Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1210
In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
