As the snow melted away on the main playground the 6th form continued to enjoy the snow covered Astro for a great lunchtime snowball session. All had a good time together and they even managed to miss the staff member on duty! Thank you Sixth Form, lovely to see you having fun and a break from your studies. Mrs Walker
Dear Parents This is the final bumper edition of the term with a fantastic range of news stories. Of course, there have been many highlights throughout the last few months and especially the wonderful CPA Ball last weekend. I am very grateful to everyone involved and it certainly exceeded all expectations. As ever, we enjoyed a marvellous concert here last night which seems a most fitting way to bring this term to a close. We are saying farewell to our Bursar, Andrew Bogle, who is about to retire. He has given exceptional service to Cranmore since 2003 and has been a key figure in the school’s development during this period. We wish him every happiness and success for the future. I wish you and your family a most enjoyable break and I am sure our pupils who are bound for sunny Barbados, the snowy slopes of Italy or the calm waters of Ghent will have a great time. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

Ghana appeal Dear Parents, I thought you would like to hear the exciting news regarding the Ghana Appeal to which you all so generously donated! The money needed to pay for the container was raised and on Saturday 17th March the container arrived and all your very kind donations were loaded aboard, among with many other donations which included fridges, tables, chairs and bikes! The container will arrive in Ghana on the 17th April, where it will be met and all Cranmore donations will be personally handed out to the children in different villages and schools in Ghana. This will be an amazing time for all involved in this project. You will of course be updated in due course on the next and final step of this incredible journey. Your generosity really will make such a huge difference to the children’s lives in Ghana. Many thanks once again for your wonderful support for this project! Louise Broadbelt

Cranmore 50th Anniversary Ball
On behalf of those involved in the Cranmore 50th Anniversary Ball last weekend, may we extend a huge thank you to all parents and staff who attended and made this the sell-out success it was! We would like to give a special mention to the parent volunteers who helped with hall transformation, to Phil and his catering team for providing a 3-course dinner for 271 guests - no mean feat!, and a special thank you to the Facilities team for all their assistance in the less glamorous preparation and clean up tasks, without which we simply could not have made it happen. A specific thank you goes to Rob Monks for his help on the day and for locking up the school at 2am on Sunday morning (in the snow!).
Individual photos taken on arrival can be found on the website for Matt Harris Photography via the following link: https://www.everybodysmile.biz/cgi-bin/public.cgi?Id=287107 Password as on the ISAMS message from school. Please also refer to the CPA Ball Facebook page. Cheers to 50 years! The CPA

School Council visits Lime Grove
On Thursday 22nd March, some School Council representatives had the pleasure of visiting some of the residents at Lime Grove. Lime Grove is a local care home which offers long-term care accommodation for occupants, some of whom have dementia or physical disabilities. We had the opportunity to share songs, music, poetry and jokes with the residents and afterwards we were even lucky enough to spend time talking to them and sharing stories. It was a very humbling experience and one which we will not forget in a long time.

Science Week On Wednesday 14th March, as part of our celebration of British Science Week, Cranmore hosted the Science Dome in the Gym. Pupils from the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th forms enjoyed an interactive presentation entitled ‘Solar System Tour and Beyond’. Starting in ‘a park in Bournemouth’, pupils were then transported to the International Space Station for a complete tour of the facilities giving an insight into the life of an astronaut. From there the pupils were whisked to different planets including Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Mars. Finally they were treated to two laps of a rollercoaster ride around the rocky and icy rings of Saturn!

Night Owls or Escape Artists! On Thursday 15th March The Nite Owls visited Cranmore with their beautiful collection of owls, as part of our Science Week activities. They introduced us to Oscar the Eagle Owl, Dotty and Whisper the Barn Owls and not forgetting Monty the baby Eagle Owl who was just 6 weeks old. We learnt that these creatures fly low to hunt, can turn their heads by 270 degrees and are able to fly silently because of their incredibly soft feathers. All of the juniors, and Forms 2 & 3, were able to have their photograph taken with Whisper the Barn owl if they wanted to. Photo proofs will be coming home this week – if you would like to purchase a print of your child with Whisper, please follow the instructions and return the proof, with the correct money or cheque to school by Friday 20th April (no need to include p&p). Dotty the Barn owl clearly loved her time at Cranmore and tried to stay – she spent another 3 hours hiding in the rafters before being tempted down for some tasty chicken bits! Thanks again to Erika and Liv from the Nite Owls , find more information here http://www.niteowls.co.uk/ Dr Verny White

Science Week Lower Prep enjoyed a wonderful trip to The Lookout Discovery Centre last Friday to conclude our Science Week. We had brilliant fun exploring the different areas, taking part in many experiments and even holding stick insects! We enjoyed an interactive show called ‘Forces and Movement’, learning about magnetism and push and pull forces. We had the chance to explore all the different zones in small groups investigating light, colour, sound, water, construction and much more! A thoroughly enjoyable trip for Lower Prep.

Easter Activities Wow! What an exciting week we have had in Nursery and Pre-Nursery! We were delighted to spot cracks in the eggs and Lucky hatched out of one on Thursday. He was joined by 3 more chick friends on Friday. The chicks have caused much fun and amusement amongst the children. All of them now have a good understanding of the egg-chick-hen life-cycle. On Thursday morning we had a special party for Mrs Palmer. We wish her well as she rests and prepares for the birth of her twins. In the afternoon we had a very small visitor. Olivia, aged 7 weeks, came to visit with her Mummy, Mrs Lee. The children were very intrigued to meet her. On Tuesday we had our Forest School Easter Egg Hunt. We were delighted so many families came to visit with their children and enjoyed toasted hot cross buns over the fire and hot chocolate. We are open throughout the Easter holidays with a programme of fun activities. Several days are already filled up but we do have a few places available. Please complete your booking forms and return soon if you are interested. We wish all our families a very Happy Easter!

Shakespeare on Trial Shakespeare on Trial is a play about modern day children challenging the relevance of Shakespeare today. The play shows William Shakespeare as a young child learning at school and aspiring to invent new words and phrases that many of us use daily. It shows extracts of his plays from Macbeth, The Merchant of Venice, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and all the King Henrys and Richards, containing all the tragedy, comedy, villains and heroes we enjoy today. It also highlights Elizabethan times and how theatre brought everyone together as a sense of occasion. The Form 2 pupils gave their parents a wonderful afternoon of entertainment and worked hard throughout the process. “The judges’ considered verdict is: Wow!”

What does a rower do without a river?
With the river in flood the rowing crews head to the pool to practise balance exercises in the pool. Once they are over it’s time for kayak games!

Multi-Skills Sports The Upper Prep and Form One girls had a wonderful time at St. George’s Junior School for a multi-skills sports morning. After a fun warm up game creating groups, all of the girls participated in a range of sports activity stations including: bench ball, hockey, rugby and football skills and netball shooting practice. This allowed the girls to work in groups with new friends and experience a variety of activities throughout the morning. A big well done to all of those involved! Miss Wilkinson
