Dear Parents Our Senior Sports Day was a most successful programme and yesterday it was the turn of pupils in our Nursery Department and Lower Prep. Our Nursery children also had a marvellous time when they had a visit from some exotic animals, there are some marvellous photos. The Cricket Tour which took place last weekend was a memorable experience and I know our hosts looked after our squad very well. The Rowers were on sparkling form for the recent competition at Blenheim Palace. Their performance reflected their talent and commitment. We have another busy weekend ahead with Picnic in the Paddock, Cricket matches, pupils heading off on the French Exchange and our Athletics squad competing in the National Competition in Weybridge. Last Friday we received the Common Entrance results for our 6th Form. They achieved a phenomenal number of A* and A grades which is a tribute to all their hard work and, of course, their teachers and parents who have supported and guided them. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

Dear Parents, Many of you will be aware that we will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary Mass on Founder’s Day, Friday 29th June. Bishop Richard will be coming to celebrate Mass for us at 2.00pm in the Sports Hall and parents are warmly invited to join us. We will also be welcoming a large number of former staff to celebrate the occasion with us. I am writing to ask for your patience and understanding with regard to parking as we have a large number of people coming to the Mass. Our Facilities Team will be putting some additional parking in place for the afternoon. Please could I ask that you do not block another car in as some parents and guests coming to Mass may need to make a prompt ‘get away’. I know we can all work together to make it a very special afternoon as we come towards the end of our year of celebrations for Cranmore’s 50th Anniversary Year. Thank you. Best wishes, Susan Walker

1st XI Cricket Tour The 1st XI embarked on their annual West Country cricket tour once exams had finally been completed. This year saw the addition of a new fixture as we travelled to play against Clifton College in Bristol. It was great to meet up again with the Barnes family who had relocated to the area from Cranmore. Despite a narrow loss, the match was played in a good spirit and hopefully will now be a regular part of the tour. On the Saturday we enjoyed a last over victory against Dauntsey’s School in Wiltshire. Our next destination was Bath to play against Prior Park. The weather remained good throughout and allowed us to enjoy some of the spectacular views that the school has to offer. Another victory meant that we made our way home happy but also exhausted! My thanks to Mr Phillips, the team and supporting parents for making the tour so memorable. Mr Down

Stars in their Eyes! Form 1’s Final Assembly was titled, ‘A Night at the Oscars’ and the children, some of whom dressed up as members of staff, reflected on their time in Form 1. The children acted, sang and danced to an appreciative audience and even the parents joined in dancing! It was a wonderful occasion and we know that the children are leaving the Junior Department with the skills and confidence to thrive in the Seniors.

Cricket Coaching
Girls in the junior department had a brilliant coaching session this week, delivered by Arlene from ‘Cricket for Girls’. The group played a fun warm up game, practised their throwing, catching and batting skills and ended with a match. They were full of excitement and enthusiasm throughout whilst they learned skills involved in the game. Well done to everybody involved! Miss Wilkinson

On Wednesday Steve brought his Animazing animals for us to see! The children were delighted, intrigued and fascinated by them as the photos show. We are looking forward to having our Daddies in for breakfast on Thursday and showing them around them our lovely playrooms! Nursery children will then have their Sports event with the Lower Prep classes, straight afterwards on The Paddock, behind the pavilion. On Tuesday we will be holding our Sumer Singalong and we look forward to welcoming our families to this special time. Pre-Nursery children will then have their Mini-beast- themed Sports activities, straight afterwards in the garden. What an exciting time of year it is!

Sports Day 2018 We had great weather for Sports Day and a dry track made for some good competitive races in the afternoon. All the children, ran jumped and threw to the best of their ability throughout the day gaining those precious points for their house. We had one record broken: James Fortescue in the 4th Form high jump broke the record by 1cm, jumping a height of 1.33m. Radford won a very closely fought senior house relay, just holding off Bowen. At the end of the afternoon when the points were all added up it was Stokes who were the overall winners for the second year in a row. Well done to everyone. There was some great friendly rivalry and camaraderie shown throughput the day. Mrs Attree

Haute Cuisine On Wednesday 13th June, the 5th Form enjoyed a French cooking lesson—Les croissants fourrés au jambon. Try it at home, c’est vraiment délicieux! The Fifth Form’s French breakfast and cooking was an informative and interesting use of our Wednesday morning. Throughout our time, we learnt how to make a traditional French croissant fourré, this included specific ways to put the grated cheese, ham and crème fraiche into the croissant. After preparing the croissant, we learnt various vocabulary to do with cooking such as grated cheese translates as fromage rapé. (T McLean Form 5). I thought the French cooking was a very enjoyable experience. This also helped me further understand the topic of food in French, allowing me to write complicated sentences and to extend my answers. I liked how we did everything ourselves without the teachers doing it for us. (J Arun Form 5). I enjoyed the French cooking because it was nice to do something different. This helped with our French because we had to read the French instructions and get the right ingredients. (E Rose Form 5). It was fun to make it with our friends. (J Crehan-Mills Form 5). I think the French cooking was fun as it gave us a break from lessons and made a snack. There should be jam that you can put in the croissants. (H Williams Form 5).

Ghana Appeal Dear Parents, I am absolutely delighted to be writing to you with the wonderful news that the container has finally reached Ghana and all your kind donations/obsolete Cranmore uniform have been distributed to the very excited children over there! The children were ecstatic to receive all your donated toys, books and clothes. It really felt like Christmas had come early to them, as it is hard to believe that the children over there don’t own any toys. If they are lucky, they receive just one balloon as their Christmas present.... The majority of the donations went to a school called ‘Divine Kids Academy’ which is located in Jukwa via Cape Coast. This is in a very rural area of Ghana where they haven’t had any help at all from overseas until now.

The school was set up in October 2012 by the founder Mr George Appiah-Kubi. The school began with just six children but now has a total of 285 pupils. The school only has 5 teachers but the success of the school is as a result of the strong, caring mother-child relationship between the teachers and the children. From the time a child enters the school he/she will be taught to be independent, sociable and disciplined. Their programme includes Literacy, Numeracy, Religious Studies, Phonics, Music and Physical Education. Cranmore’s obsolete sports kit (and donated trainers) now means the children have a PE uniform to play sport in which is fantastic. Something they would never have had. Everyone over there (from children to parents to grandparents) are just so grateful to you all for your kindness and generosity. They were visibly overwhelmed by it all. Please find below some pictures of the children wearing the old Cranmore sports tops in school and receiving your donations. There will be some more photos to come of the children wearing the donated school shirts and shorts but I thought you would like to see these wonderful pictures as soon as possible! A huge thank you once again to each and every one of you for making this Appeal possible. It’s been an amazing journey! Louise Broadbelt

A Day at the Palace With the regatta season drawing to a close, our rowing squad headed to Blenheim Palace for the annual junior regatta. This is a special day for us because the lake and grounds are magnificent and with almost the whole squad competing it is very exciting and a chance for us all to be together, enjoying a picnic lunch. It was also one of the school’s most successful regattas: in fact we were just 1 point away from winning the Victor Ludorum trophy for the school with the most wins! Our impressive list of wins was: Gold J13 Quadruple Scull – Jett Dyason, Arjun Kang, Benjamin Pettifar, Jacob Coutts. cox Seb Crehan Mills. Upper Prep visited Wakehurst Place to supplement our Science topics this term. We had a fantastic day learning about pollination and the parts of different plants. We also had the opportunity to do some pond dipping and we used keys to identify the many different creatures found. Finally we made some ephemeral art using a range of natural resources.
