Cranmore Chronicle 28th June 2019 Editor: Mrs S Watkinson

Dear Parents We had a wonderful celebration of Mass for Founder’s Day yesterday, which is always a very special occasion. In the afternoon, the fine weather allowed us to enjoy a superb programme for our Senior Department Sports and I must commend all the pupils who took part. We are very much looking forward to our inaugural Cranmore Canter on Sunday, which will be a great social event for our school community. We had a CPA meeting this week and I do hope that next term we might have some new recruits who feel able to support the invaluable work they do for us. Rehearsals for Charlie & the Chocolate Factory are stepping up in the final preparations for the end of term performance. Yours sincerely,

Michael Connolly

Form One’s Final Assembly Form One presented their Final Assembly on the theme of dreams on Wednesday 19th June. They described the type of world in which they would like to grow up, where everyone is valued irrespective of their race, colour, gender and religion. They acted out short sketches depicting themselves in their dream jobs. The assembly finished with a moving rendition of 'A Million Dreams'. The Form One team are extremely proud of the wonderful progress all the Form One children have made this year and wish them every happiness as they pursue their dreams.

Seniors On 24th June, the 5th Form enjoyed a session of French cooking. They can now cook des croissants fourrés.

A selection of quotes from the morning:

“I liked making the croissants on our own instead of someone cooking for us.” Edward “I liked how the French cooking lesson was interactive and how we could use the French vocabulary that we had learnt.” James “I liked using the vocabulary more practically.” Darragh “It was a very exciting and enjoyable morning.” Baxter

On Tuesday 18th June, Form Two went to Legoland, where they enjoyed doing Around the World in 80 bricks and a 4D experience in Atlantis.

The rehearsals of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory continue this week. We look forward to seeing parents on Monday 8th July at 7 p.m. for the performance!

Chaplaincy Trip to Worth Abbey On Wednesday 19th June, a group of Cranmore pupils went to the Celebration of the Good Shepherd at Worth Abbey. It was a most special day which included a liturgy with Bishop Richard and a reflective walk in a quiet prayer garden. We shared some of these experiences with St Teresa's. Stephen Jakubowski

On Friday 21 June, the Cranmore Faith Family had a barbecue at the Paulson's house to celebrate faith and friendship. It was a wonderful evening full of laughter and activities. If you would like to hear more about the Faith Family, please get in touch with Mr Jakubowski. We would like to thank the Paulsons for being such generous hosts.

A group of pupils enjoyed a day out to see the Life of Christ at Wintershall. It was a wonderful day and we learnt a great deal.

Library News Parents’ Book Group Our Parents’ Book Group meets in the Senior Library once every half term. Books we have recently read and enjoyed include Bill Browder’s Red Notice and The Cut-out Girl by Bart Van Es. We always have interesting discussions about the topics raised by the books. Please do think about coming along to our next meeting, which will be on Monday 16th September at 8.30 a.m. The books we intend to read over the summer are:

We normally read one book each time, but we decided to set ourselves our own Summer Reading Challenge in solidarity with our children!

Children’s Summer Reading Challenge Please look out for the Summer Reading Challenge booklet which your child will bring home in the next couple of weeks if they are in Forms 2 to 5. There are 6 different categories of books to read and certificates to be awarded in September. There are some book recommendations in the booklet, but do feel free to make your own choices within the categories listed. The key is to choose books your children will enjoy. Happy reading!

The Boy at the Back of the Class Competition Entries for the writing competition launched at the end of our author visit last week should be submitted by Friday 5th July. Please ask your children to return their completed forms to Mrs Watkinson in the Senior Library. Thank you.

Sian Watkinson, School Librarian
