INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
To celebrate International Women's Day, our Head Girl Team presented on the reason we celebrate the day in this week's assembly. They talked about the theme of this year which is to Embrace Equity.
SIXTH FORM NEWS
Hello everyone, I hope everybody had a lovely week, despite the cold!
We have had a very eventful week in Sixth Form, kicking it off on Monday with the International Women's Day assembly given by the Head Girl Team. This year’s theme was embracing equity, which the International Women’s Day Organisation defines as recognising that each person has different circumstances and ensuring that everyone is given the same resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome. The girls learnt about three intellectual women: Rosalind Franklin, Ada Lovelace and Katherine Johnson, who all made groundbreaking discoveries in their fields but whose work was credited to men. They also heard about women who have acted as role models to members of staff in the school and received a purple ribbon to mark the special day.
On Tuesday, the whole of Year 12 attended a UCAS convention in Surrey Sports Park to visit multiple wellknown universities such as Southampton, Nottingham and Sheffield. The girls really enjoyed talking to representatives from lots of universities and exploring the broad range of courses available to them. It allowed them to discover courses that they hadn’t thought of before and will be very beneficial to them when applying to university in Year 13.
On Tuesday lunchtime, St Teresa’s received a visit from a St T's alumna, Mrs Reid Banks, a famous British author of the best-selling “The Indian in the Cupboard.” She kindly donated her latest (and 48th!) book ‘The Red Red Dragon’ to our library. Our previous Deputy Head Girl, Emma W, along with the Head Girl Team from Prep School, gave Mrs Reid Banks and her son a tour of the school. The Head Girl Team arrived back at school just in time to meet her and find out what life was like at St Teresa’s in the 1940s. It was such a pleasure to meet such an inspirational woman and we hope that she comes to visit again soon!
Wednesday saw large amounts of snow on St Teresa’s grounds, resulting in the school’s closure for a ‘snow day’. The staff acted quickly to ensure that all lessons were available to attend online, including a relaxing hour of yoga for the Sixth Form and staff, run by Ms Elliott. When we returned on Thursday, we all enjoyed walking and playing in the snow, glad to have the school open again so soon.
On Thursday, the annual Oxbridge Programme trip went to the Oxbridge Masterclass UK Student Conference, hosted in Oxford. The trip was open to all girls from Years 10-13. The programme for the day included Science and Humanities seminars in addition to specialist sessions about applying to Oxbridge, for example Dr Julie Arliss’ session about “Oxbridge interview questions to help stretch and challenge flexible minds”.
Last Friday, as a treat to help them to relax after their mocks, the Year 13 students participated in a Sound Bath during their Friday Enrichment lesson. Hannah P said that the sound bath included gongs, crystals and Himalayan bowls and it was very therapeutic and really aided them to unwind. She also commented that girls felt that they were ‘in a deep state of relaxation’ and felt an increased sense of calm. The music, made by the variety of instruments, sent many students into a state of rest and Hannah said that they were all fascinated by the experience, feeling a reduced sense of stress. The sound bath was conducted by Sue Greenwood who has a PhD in music. Hannah highly recommend joining one of her sessions if you can.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead and that you take some time to explore the women who have influenced your life.

ROTARY DISTRICT FINALS
On Sunday 5th March, our Intermediate Public Speaking Team participated in the Rotary District Finals in Mairlot Hall. They won two previous rounds to get to this stage of the competition and competed against three other strong teams. The competition was very tough but the girls spoke confidently and held the attention of the audience exploring their chosen motion: ‘British Sign Language should be part of the National Curriculum.’ Amelia chaired the team with an admirable calm manner and ensured the debate was delivered with purpose. Georgina spoke passionately about the benefits of introducing British Sign Language in schools and was awarded ‘Best Proposing Speaker’ for her delivery. Sophia represented the opposing side of the debate and also spoke excellently showing a deep understanding of the topic. The audience and judges were thoroughly impressed and the girls are delighted to be going through to the next round: The Regional Competition, as ‘Runners Up.’ Congratulations!

In the same spirit of re-using we are also looking for any saucers or medium sized plant pots.
Thank you from the Eco Council

This Week
In Chapel this week we reflected on the account of the Transfiguration. Jesus took his closest followers and took them up a hill. In Scripture this is always an indication that we are in the place where Heaven and Earth meet and this was, indeed, the experience of those followers. In that sacred place, Jesus’ appearance was transformed and those unsuspecting disciples had a glimpse of the heavenly reality, with Jesus in the company of Moses and Elijah, representing the Law and the Prophets, who now worship him. No wonder the disciples were filled with awe, and no wonder that Jesus swore them to silence until after the resurrection, when all of these things would make more sense.
This is a most dramatic example of the Kingdom of Heaven breaking out before the eyes of the disciples - but is that something that we would see. Or perhaps we just don’t notice it. Here are three examples of glimpses of God’s heavenly kingdom breaking out before our very eyes:
- a young man at a London station walks out of a coffee shop, walks over to an elderly gentleman, who clearly lives on the streets. The young man settles down on the pavement beside the homeless man and presents him with a coffee and a sandwich. They sit and chat and, after a few minutes, a smile spreads across both of their faces as they share a joke.
- a young woman in a supermarket helps a mother with a child in her arms to fill a bag with essential items. The young woman, hearing that the mother can’t afford her shopping, offers to pay and slips in a few extra chocolate biscuits for the two other children at home. The mother gently weeps
- and just this week, on Baker Street, a teary eyed student receives the biggest of hugs as a friend sweeps them up in a caring embrace and gently reassures them that everything will be alright
There are glimpses of the Kingdom of God appearing all around us. You just have to spot it!

We hope that you are all well, but please remember to pack enough layers for riding. The weather has been so different in just a week! First snow and then rain! The staff and the ponies have been wrapping up warm and hugging the heaters. Hopefully the forecast will be better next week.
We will start to plan the timetable for next term, so if you no longer wish to ride then please email us to let us know.
Easter Holiday Activities
We still have availability for Easter! Have a look on our online site to book your spaces now!
A few of the horses had physio and chiropractor treatments this week. This is a good way to make sure that the horses are comfortable and happy, they also love it!
The saddler also came out to see Mouse and Barney so that they will be happy in their lessons.
Beware! The electric fence is back on in the fields. Make sure you don’t touch it!
The horse of the week is… Sidan!
~ Libby C
Good luck for your next competition!
