BOARDING

Friday night we celebrated Mexican International Day the girls made guacamole and had a dance party. On Saturday the boarders were taken to Guildford Spectrum Bowling.

Sunday, we went to church then did our weekly shop at Sainsbury’s.

Monday, we had an amazing afternoon tea in the games room which was decorated to celebrate the Queen’s funeral by the house team. We had a delicious cream tea with lots of different flavoured sandwiches including cucumber sandwiches, cakes, biscuits and everyone’s favourite jam and cream mini scones with a cup of tea or squash. Everyone paid their respects and had a lovely time.

We used the swimming pool for the first time this school year and had a great time with lots of fun and games. The girls asked if they could go again tomorrow but we had to remind them that they had school!

Domino’s was served for dinner due to it being a Bank Holiday. The girls really enjoyed the pizza and fizzy drinks, and most were very grateful. Thank you from the staff as well we all really enjoyed our pizzas.

So come on Ignatius and Dominic!!

Here are this week’s questions....... https://forms.office.com/r/8v7i5i39Ji

Last week’s answers……

1. “Let me make this clear, you don’t have to listen” (4, 2, 4) was Read my Lips.

2. It was Victoria Beckham who said that “sometimes you have got to know when it is time to leave the party”.

3. Debbie’s probability of choosing two tins the same from 5 of tomatoes and 7 of beans was 31/66 or 0,4697 or 47%.

4. Someone sent up the river was going up The Hudson to Sing Sing. The Treaty of Paris of 3 September 1783 brought the American War of Independence to an end. Finally the first thing that the Daniel Spargo Mabbs Foundation want you to know about vaping is that tolerance and dependence on nicotine can develop quickly.

Somebody may be wondering what do you get when you cross a circus strongman with an iPhone? Well I’m afraid the answer is that you get proof that it is much easier to come up with a set up line for a joke than a punchline.

Best wishes and good luck, Mr Neate

NOTICES:

On Tuesday Hannah E, an ex-student, came to Medicine Society to present a talk about non alcoholic fatty liver disease; a subject which she has been studying at university. The talk was interesting and engaging; I learnt that the liver is the only organ that can completely grow back to its original size even after up to 90% of it has been removed. I recently joined the MedSoc team to learn more about Medicine which is a career path which I have been considering. It was fascinating, and I would highly recommend MedSoc for other students who are considering Medicine or think they might be interested. Our next Med Soc meeting is on the 4th October and we have Dr Anna Maria Rollin MBE coming into school who is a consultant anaesthetist and is going to give a talk on her experience working in the medical field. Emily J Year 11

The second Enrichment Society session of the year will take place on Monday in the Library, 4:30pm - 5:15pm. I will be presenting a session on "Alan Turing: How computing helped to crack the code".

A reminder that if you are an Academic Scholar inYears 7 - 10 or inYear 12, you are expected to attend a minimum of 3 EnSoc sessions each term.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Best wishes,

Mr Field

SIXTH FORM NEWS

I hope everyone had a restful Bank Holiday; it was a lovely weekend to pay our respects to Her Late Majesty.

During Registration this week we have been doing target setting for the year ahead in our form groups. The Year 12 Students had their Careers Lesson in Period 2 on Tuesday where there was a specialist talk about the value of extra curricular opportunities, specifically D of E. The Year 13s used their UCAS lesson as an opportunity to continue to work on their first draft of their Personal Statement.

On Thursday morning, the Head Girl Team and some of the Prefects delivered an Opportunities Assembly to the Year 12s. This means that they can apply for various roles including being in the Sixth Form Events Committee, being a co-editor on the Student Magazine, being the Year Representative in Student Council and lots more! Good luck to all the Year 12 students who are applying. We all had our pastoral check ins on Thursday morning and the Year 13 Senior Prefects went to their allocated Year during this time and got to know the girls more which I particularly enjoyed. The Year 12 students were in groups with the Year 7s, where the Year 12s helped them to decide which theme they are going to choose for their Enrichment Project. As a treat during our pastoral check iIns, the Sixth Form enjoyed some delicious pasties and fresh fruit juice. Thank you, Gary and the Catering team!

On Friday the Sixth Form Coffee Van arrived for the first time! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the delicious iced coffee, hot chocolate, snacks, and plenty more! Thank you so much to Miss P for organising this very special treat for us which we will be having every Friday outside the Sixth Form Centre!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I look forward to updating you on more Sixth Form fun next week!

Emma W (Deputy Head Girl)

On Tuesday, MedSoc re-started strongly for the year. We were very lucky to have the opportunity to hear from Hannah Evans, who studied applied medical sciences at UCL. She shared her knowledge on liver cells and the lab research involved in her degree. Interesting fact; Non- Alcoholic Liver Disease is the most common liver disease!

Ariella W (Year 12)

We are so pleased to have started our riding lessons for the term! We hope that you have all had as good a week as we have!

As the weather is so variable at the moment, please make sure that you come with a jumper (no hoodies!) and/or a coat to wear when it’s chilly out. As we are on top of a hill, we get a bit of a cold wind when riding in the arena!

A reminder that if you wish to cancel a lesson, we do require 48hrs notice or more in order to offer credit. Any later and we are unable to fill the slot with a rider for a catch up lesson or off the waitlist.

NSEA News

The NSEA team have been doing an amazing job over the summer and are already preparing for the 2022 23 competition year!

As there have been a lot of results, we will make sure that it all gets published on the website before the half term begins!

This Week

As the new year begins, we are used to teachers setting out their expectations for the year and explaining what is most important in their area. And in Chapel this week we thought about the same idea for our lives. What are the most important things to remember?

No one likes being asked a trick question yet that is exactly what happened to Jesus (Matthew 22:34 When asked what is the greatest commandment, Jesus accurately answers with the TWO great commandments firstly, to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength” and then, no less important, to “love your neighbour as yourself.”

It is no wonder that love of God is so central. The God, who is love, lavishes his blessings upon us through the beauty of creation, through the gifts and talents we have been given, through our family and school, and in countless other ways. Every experience of genuine love is an experience of God, and we are hardwired to love in return.

Yet that love can never exist in isolation. Once we have experienced love, we are compelled to share that love with others, to reach out to those around us and to share that love with them. In the first instance this would be to our family, but in time we realise that we are compelled to share all the graces and blessings that we have received with those we meet, to be the face of God to others and to recognise in them the presence of God.

And perhaps we should also remember that none of this depends on how we feel about ourselves. Whatever we think, whatever we think about ourselves, whatever we have done, we are precious in the eyes of God. Nothing that we or anyone else does to us can ever stop God loving us and reaching out to us in love. Have a good year!!
