BOARDING NEWS
This week in boarding, we had some lovely visitors from St Teresa’s Old Girls Association come to celebrate the school’s 95th anniversary. The girls did a wonderful job showing them around and enjoyed listening to all their stories.
We also had another visit from the school therapy dog Yogi! Whom the girls love seeing in boarding and taking him on walks.
On Saturday afternoon the girls went out ice skating, which they all enjoyed. The girls have been enjoying the cookery club on a Monday afternoon with Mrs Linaker, this week they made some very yummy pasta.
The boarders also took part in a 'Canteen Quiz' with questions about the world, pop stars and Paddington bear! The boarding staff team came fourth, but the winners with 77 points were overjoyed and all were given prizes for taking part.
SIXTH FORM NEWS
Hello everyone!
The Sixth Form had another great week, starting on Friday with another fascinating PSHE talk on nutrition given by the registered nutritionist and nutritional therapist, Isa Robinson. We explored topics such as diet culture and the inaccurate representation of health and nutrition on social media, how to look after our bodies in everyday life, the importance of getting joy out of food for both our mental and physical health, whilst still maintaining a balanced diet, and more! Did you know that your brain needs the equivalent of at least 8 slices of bread worth of carbs every day in order to function properly?
On Saturday, the school welcomed back nearly 150 old girls as part of the STOGA event to celebrate St Teresa’s 95th anniversary. It was so lovely to see and meet so many old students, ranging from the class of 1947 to the class of 2020, and to hear loads of wonderful and whacky stories of experiences at St Teresa’s over the years. The day started with drinks in the boardroom, followed by tours around the school given by various Year 12s and 13s, a tasty lunch of finger sandwiches, scones and chocolate covered strawberries, a musical interlude in reception and finally an anniversary service led by Deacon Simon in the chapel. Thank you to all those who helped make the day so special for so many!
On Tuesday, Year 12 and 13 A Level students were given an hour and a half to complete a set of challenging questions in a nationwide Maths Challenge. Elizabeth M in Year 12 took part and told me about the event: “I thoroughly enjoyed the Senior Maths Challenge as it helped expand my knowledge beyond the A Level curriculum. It was worthwhile as it improved my understanding and increased my curiosity when tackling the more complex problems that I will be seeing more throughout the A Level course.”

We were excited to have some of our Year 12s and 13s represent the Sixth Form at the Senior Academic Scholars dinner on Thursday evening, and to hear a speech given by our wonderful Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Prefect. Amarie's speech was inspired by Black History Month and her love for Maya Angelou. She kindly shared with us an extract from her speech “Maya Angelou inspires me a lot as she kept pushing through no matter how tough things got for her. She gave me the confidence to keep pushing through no matter how tough things may get for me.”
On Friday, an ambassador from the Royal Institute of Mathematics ran a training session for our Year 12 mathematicians to teach them how to present a maths class to younger students. Last year, the girls were split into three groups, each creating and then teaching their lesson to Year 5s from five different schools in the local area. They learnt skills such as how to be engaging when teaching and how to create lesson plans and worksheets for the students.
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and week ahead!

YEAR 11 TO MANOR HOUSE
Year 11 attended a seminar and exam workshop at Manor House! It was wonderful to see the girls all collaborating!
STOGA
It was wonderful to welcome back so many alumnae to our reunion and we were delighted that we had students travelling from all parts of the world to join us for the 95th celebration!
The day was made extra special by Sister Carmel joining us for this happy occasion.
ECO COUNCIL BOOK SALE
Eco Council had a very successful charity book sale on Thursday afternoon. It was wonderful seeing girls bond over their love of reading and giving old books a second chance!
YEAR 9 GEOGRAPHY TRIP
On Thursday 5 October 2023 the Geography Department took the Year 9 students to Chichester Harbour on the south coast of England. The students enjoyed a boat ride around the harbour and learned how it was formed at the end of the last Ice Age. The students also visited the beach at West Wittering and East Head spit and learned about the processes forming these coastal features. They also learned about how they are managed.
KS4 & 5 ACADEMIC SCHOLARS’ DINNER
An opportunity to celebrate a shared dedication to the pursuit of academic excellence, the Academic Scholars’ dinner is now a highlight of the school calendar. This year’s KS4 and 5 event began, as ever, with a traditional Latin grace read by Dr McShane and Dr Poffley. During the main course the scholars were challenged to discuss a selection of interesting topics. The now-legendary “Jug of Conversation” ensured that sophisticated, enriching exchanges were had by all. Our speaker this time was our Diversity, Equality and Inclusion prefect Amarie who gave an insightful speech.

This Week
No sooner than we finish celebrating the feast of St Therese, we immediately celebrate the feast of not only one of the most popular saints but also one of our House patrons, St Francis of Assisi (4th October). The life of St Francis is rich with significance for today. He lived a life of extreme poverty, forsaking all other earthly possession, despite coming from a wealthy family. He is a model for choosing a life of simplicity, in solidarity with the poor. In his lifetime one of his greatest achievement was his dialogue with Islam. At a time of conflict and tension, he went out of his way to communicate and build friendships with the Muslim nations of his time. He is a model of reaching out in genuine care to those who hold opinions and beliefs different to ourselves. Following his personal call to living a life of sanctity, he drew huge numbers of followers. This is still the case with Franciscan communities all over the world. He is a model to us of how none of us do what we do alone and that we are always drawn into communities. His sanctity was borne out when he received the stigmata, the wounds of Christ on his own body. He is a model for us of a saintly life, one dedicated to becoming the person God calls us to be. He is perhaps best remembered by us today because of his great Canticle of Creation, where he recognises our closeness to the beauty of creation, God’s most abundant gift to us all. On his feast day this year his influence was seen once again by his namesake, Pope Frances, who named himself after St Francis to show his solidarity with the poor, who published his second great letter to people of goodwill across the world reminding us of the climate crisis that we all face. We pray that as we reflect on the life of St Francis we will learn from his example. St Francis, pray for us!
Secondary School Pilgrimage
It was a joy for us to participate this week in the Annual Secondary School Pilgrimage to Arundel Cathedral. Members of the School Chaplaincy Team joined with Bishop Richard for a walk through Arundel Castle grounds before celebrating the Feast of St Francis in the Cathedral.
