BOARDING
The last weekend was celebrated with a day trip to Thorpe Park; the girls had an amazing time and went on every ride they could possibly get on. There are some truly terrifying rides at Thorpe Park and most of the girls ran as fast as they could to queue for them including Miss Molly. Some of the girls chose to enjoy the tamer rides and the carnival games which the other Gaps were very happy to help them with. Most of the girls ended their day by going on the log flume which meant we had a few soggy individuals getting back on the bus. Best comment on the ride home. “We love Thorpe Park can we go next weekend please.”
We've really enjoyed our last week with our Hot Chocolate club on a Wednesday evening. We also held our first 'Come Dine With Me' competition, with the UK group. Dr McShane, Gary and Mrs Wragg all judged the girl's presentation of food, the hall and the service. Well done girls you scored 24 out of 30! Next term we will have another group cooking for us all. Rewards were handed out after supper on Thursday for all the boarders’ merits they have gained over this half of term. Well done girls! More prizes next term at the Christmas Party.
Have a great half term.
SIXTH FORM NEWS
We led the Whole School Assembly on Monday morning where the Student Magazine Team announced that issue 4, the Winter Edition of our Student Magazine, will be coming out before Christmas. There are two competitions for the whole school to get involved in:
Creative
One being a creative competition where all students are welcome to enter any piece of artwork around the theme of Winter or Intellect, our School Value this year.
Explore Your Past:
The second competition requires students to write 150 words about a family member who has had an impact in history, for example a great grandfather who served in WW1.
Both competitions are open to all year groups and there will be two category winners, Upper School (Years 10 13) and Lower School (Years 7 - 9). To submit your entry, students need to attach their submission and email it to student.magazine@st-teresas.com The deadline for these competitions is Thursday 1st December and the winners will have their work included in the magazine! Good luck to everyone and we look forward to receiving your entries after half term.
On Monday evening the Academic Scholars of Years 10, 11, and Sixth Form came together for dinner, which began with Dr McShane and Dr Poffley reciting the Oxford Grace. We were entertained by Dr McShane’s ever-delightful ‘jug of conversation’, prompting many enlightening discussions. Our Senior Academic Prefect, Kirsten L, gave an insightful speech on kidney ethics, a topic we were all very interested to discover more about; such as the unanswerable question on whether it is right to buy a kidney from someone in a low income country. The food was delicious, and the whole evening was wonderful!
Jess H (Academic Prefect)On Wednesday Afternoon, the 1st XI Hockey Team played in a tournament at KCS Wimbledon. We ploughed through our first match, winning 3 0, and carried on to win all of our matches in our pool, with our last one resulting in a 5 0 win. We then went through to the semi finals and to the finals, which we won 2 0. We came first overall in the tournament and well done to all the girls playing, we played fantastically as a team to achieve these results. We are particularly proud of our Sixth Form team members: Sophie, Kirsten and Poppy from Year 12 and Pippa and Emma from Year 13.
Year 12 assembly on Thursday was the Application Pathway Launch; students were invited to attend seminars for the specialist pathways available to them such as Art, Oxbridge and Medical, Veterinary and Dentistry. These pathways now run for two years, supporting the Year 12 students with their specialist applications. We hope that they enjoyed this experience
Thursday Drama Trip To Kill A Mockingbird
On Thursday 13 October, GCSE and A Level drama pupils went up to London to visit the Gielgud Theatre to watch the play To Kill a Mockingbird directed by Bartlett Sher. This visit was for our Live Theatre essays and to be inspired by their performing techniques in our own performances when back in class. The performance was moving and everyone enjoyed the performance as for many this was their first time back in a theatre in years.
Sophie FOn Friday after lunch, the House Captains from each house organised team building activities for all years to spend time together before we have our half term break. It was fantastic to get to know the younger years within our school community and a great end to a busy half term!
I hope you all have a restful half term.
SCHOLARS’ DINNER
We were pleased to host our annual Scholars’ Dinner for our senior academic scholars. Much merriment and interesting topics of conversation were had, with Dr McShane's "Jug of Conversation".
YEAR 10 TRIP TO KEW GARDENS
This week Year 10 Fine Art, Photography & Textiles pupils had the opportunity to visit Kew Gardens, which holds an amazing collection of exotic plant forms and architectural structures. This visit allowed the pupils to collect vital first-hand research, which they will be able to use back in the classroom. All the pupils worked with enthusiasm and were a real delight to take out for the day.
EVENSONG AT WINCHESTER CATHEDRAL
On Saturday, members of Schola Cantorum took part in Evensong at Winchester Cathedral with choirs from the Royal School of Church Music. Boasting the longest medieval nave in Europe, this magnificent building has inspired worship for many generations and so was a very appropriate setting for our celebration. It was a particularly special event as it fused the traditional evensong with the Royal School’s annual recognition of those who had made a significant contribution to church music. Being one of the few young choirs in attendance, it was a fantastic opportunity to sing with adult choirs and experience the richness of four-part harmony. The chosen anthem by Thomas Hewitt Jones was particularly poignant and effective as the text was based on the speeches of the late Queen Elizabeth II and sung in her memory. This prestigious event was livestreamed across the globe, and we were very honoured to be a part of it.
In addition to our trip to Winchester, we are delighted to have been invited back to sing Evensong at Chichester Cathedral having sung there last year. We are looking forward to returning to Chichester on the 9th of November.

Have a lovely October Half Term!
STE have had a new staff member join the team called Maddi, her first day was on Tuesday. She has worked on other types of livery and competition yards before coming here.
The arena was re graded on Monday and is now level and much nicer to ride in! After the very dry summer the carpet got all fluffy so it’s now nice to walk in without getting carpet fluff stuck to your shoes!
The ponies have started to be clipped this week. Clipping is when the horse’s coat gets shaved off in different styles so that they don’t get too hot in the winter months. It also makes them easier to groom!
The horse of the week is… Bobby!
~ Libby CNSEA News
Good luck to everyone heading out to compete this Saturday, but also the best of luck to the teams who are heading to the NSEA Championships over the half term!!
The October dates are ready to book, we are running Pony Mornings, Pony Afternoons and also ad hoc lessons.
So please check our booking site to book your spaces now!
This Week
It was wonderful to launch our Christmas Shoebox Appeal this week! As in previous years, we are supporting ‘Children in Distress’ to provide boxes of joy to babies, children, young people and the elderly in Romania and Eastern Europe. In Chapel this week we heard a presentation about how to prepare our boxes. Full details have been given to every pupil in the school. Further details have been emailed out to all families. Our aim this year is to smash out target from last year and to collect at least 300 shoeboxes. What a wonderful gift this would be!!
We now have a four week period to prepare, fill and return our shoeboxes. This gives us the whole of the half-term break and then two weeks after the break to complete our shoeboxes. The boxes will then be collected and will leave the school site on Friday, 11th November. Please ensure that your boxes are returned then (together with the £2 donation towards the cost of transport and distribution).
This is a wonderful project as it is a genuine example of us giving without expecting anything in return. From our wealth and because of our generosity an individual in need who we will never meet will receive a gift of joy this Christmas. Can we encourage every member of the school community to prepare and return a shoebox as part of their preparations for the great feast of Christmas. Thank you, in advance, for all your help and support!!
