Message from the Head of Prep
Despite the poor run of weather, continued success has been enjoyed on the football pitches with great wins for our U9s, U10s and U11s. Particular praise this week must go to the U11s for winning the Regional IAPS at Ashford School, Kent, without conceding a goal. Congratulations also to all of Radford for doing the double: lifting both the Lower Prep and Upper Prep House Cups!
Yesterday marked National Poetry Day and it was certainly one to remember for Years 4 and 5 who took part in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record. We will have to wait for official confirmation as to whether or not it was a successful attempt, but it was definitely an enormous amount of fun. Thank you to Mrs Watkinson for all of her time and effort in coordinating the arrangements for this wonderful occasion. The boys absolutely loved making their suggestions for Laura Mucha’s poem and getting to vote on which phrases were to be used.
This year we celebrate the value of Community and there is an excellent opportunity for everyone to support a local good cause with our Harvest appeal for LeatherHEAD START. As has already been communicated by Mr Jakubowski, all offerings should be taken to the Auditorium on the morning of Thursday 10th October between 8am to 8.30am. We will then arrange for those kind donations to reach those in need.
Looking ahead, we hope that Year 6 manage to have a relatively restful weekend and think about preparing their bags in readiness for what promises to be an exciting time this week. We wish them well as they head away to take part in their overnight enrichment experience with a great deal of adventurous activities planned for them.
If Laura s attempt has been successful, our pupils will have taken part in achieving a Guinness World Record! We will post further updates here as soon as we have them.

Building Electric Circuits in Year 4
Marlo in Year 4 loves building electric circuits during his Science lessons and he surprised his class by bringing in his own electronic circuit kit to school.
He enjoyed demonstrating to his peers how to connect all the components together to build a circuit with a propeller that flew off like a helicopter when it had enough power from the batteries. Then Ollie F helped him to build a more complex circuit that had a doorbell that sang circuit was completed.
Thank you, Marlo, for a very exciting Science lesson today demonstrating some wonderful new circuits.

Last Friday the 20 Technology, Engineering and Maths) on engineering.
The talk was presented by Mr.Derrick Budd who is a licenced aircraft engineer and has many years He spoke about what a career in and talents which apply science, mathematics and a host of other topics to solve problems in the aviation industry.
Our students watched a video to show the steps involved in the removal of an engine and installation of a new engine into a Boeing 787 aircraft. Mr.Budd explained the laws of physics of flight, which is based on Newton's three laws of motion and the balance of four fundamental forces.
Then, the students got the opportunity to make a paper aeroplane with their Maths teachers. They competed against their Form groups, to fly and land their plane with great accuracy. Mr.Budd enjoyed listening to the wonderful student questions asked at the end of the session.
Two boys in Year 5 completed their first ever triathlon on Sunday. All their effort went towards raising money for the Shooting Stars Charity. Congratulations, boys, for your community spirit and selfless act, which is very much in line with this year school value of Community.
