Message from the Head of Prep

After the autumnal break, it has been wonderful to welcome the children back for this new half term. They have enjoyed catching up with friends and getting back into the routine of school.

Our Football season is now drawing to a close, but not before our Under 8 team enjoyed a successful tournament at KCS and our Under 11 team successfully got through to the next round of the Surrey Cup. With Rugby season rolling around, please remember that Upper Prep children will need mouthguards for their Games sessions.

This week we have been thinking about the events surrounding Remembrance Day. Our Nursery children have created some beautiful pieces of artwork and, in our assemblies, we paused to reflect on the sacrifices made by others. We considered how Remembrance Day honours those who served to defend our democratic freedoms and way of life.

Tomorrow, we have the CPA Fireworks on the Henderson Field. Thank you to everyone involved for their hard work in organising this event. It promises to be another spectacular evening.

Mr Heaver

Action Day

Well done to Years 4, 5 and 6 for performing some very entertaining acts for Action Day this year. We have so far raised £190 for The Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD). If you would still like to donate, please find the link here.

Music News

Congratulations to this young cellist, Rafferty CD (6DE), who played 'Cossacks' brilliantly during Upper Prep assembly on Monday.

Design and Technology in Year 6

In their Design and Technology lessons this term, Year 6 pupils have been designing their own Cranmore Google Doodle, thinking of this year’s value of ‘Community’. Here are some of 6MP’s final designs.

Last Friday the 20th of September, all the Year 6 students had the pleasure of enjoying an informative STEM talk (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) on engineering.

The talk was presented by Mr.Derrick Budd who is a licenced aircraft engineer and has many years He spoke about what a career in looks like and how he and his team of engineers rely on a wide range of skills and talents which apply science, mathematics and a host of other topics to solve problems in the aviation industry.

Our students watched a video to show the steps involved in the removal of an engine and installation of a new engine into a Boeing 787 aircraft. Mr.Budd explained the laws of physics of flight, which is based on Newton's three laws of motion and the balance of four fundamental forces.

Then, the students got the opportunity to make a paper aeroplane with their Maths teachers. They competed against their Form groups, to fly and land their plane with great accuracy. Mr.Budd enjoyed listening to the wonderful student questions asked at the end of the session.

Reception News

This week in PSHE, we were talking about how we are all special and unique. We enjoyed listening to each other's ideas of what makes us special. Miss Hurl and Mrs Prothero wrote our ideas down and we linked these together to show that we are all special and all part of the Cranmore family.

Nursery

This week in Nursery the children have been learning all about the importance of Remembrance Day and made their own poppy pictures. They enjoyed discussing what the poppy represented. The children enjoyed finding out about the Hindu celebrations of Diwali, the festival of light. They used clay and glitter to make their own Diva lamps.

Congratulations to our U11A team for progressing into the next round of the Surrey Cup. The team played away at Micklefield and won the match 1-0. Well done to our U8 football team that performed admirably at the KCS tournament before half-term.

This week, our Year 6 had a great block fixture against Shrewsbury House. It was a superb effort from the U11A team who have retained their unbeaten record. Our U10s are in action today against RGS Prep; the U9s played on Monday against Shrewsbury House; and, on Thursday, played against KCS and Donhead. The football season finishes today with the U8s playing away against Downsend. Well done, everyone, for a fantastic football season.

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team

This Week

Bible Reading from St Paul’s Letter to the Romans

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Reflection

As we enter the month of November, the Church gives us time to remember those who have passed from this life. In this month we are encouraged to pray for our loved ones who have gone before us. Grief and loss are some of the most difficult things we have to face in our humanity but our faith in Jesus, our faith in His Resurrection must give us hope that nothing can separate us from the love of God.

Prayer

We pray for all those who nurse the sick and comfort the dying. Lord, make them strong to do their work, make them gentle as they look after the weak, make their hearts grow in love. Amen

“May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be.” St Teresa of Lisieux
