Message from the Head of Prep

After a rather wet bank holiday weekend, it was lovely to welcome the children back with bright sunshine on Tuesday. Let us hope that is a sign of things to come and that summer is around the corner.

We are very lucky to have incredible Science facilities here at Cranmore with laboratories in both the main school building and in the new Science & Technology Centre. Year 5 were able to take what they have learnt in the labs and apply it in practice when they visited Bushy Park on Tuesday to develop their field studies techniques.

The Summer Serenade on Wednesday was a fantastic event and really showcased the musical talents of our children. It was impressive to see such a high level of skill on display across the various groups as they performed with great composure to an enthusiastic audience.

Today, we have been incredibly busy welcoming over 120 families to our school for our Open Morning. Thanks must go to our CPA reps for being such hospitable hosts and to all those involved, including our Senior pupils who guided the prospective families around our school.

Good luck to our cricketers who are in action against Danes Hill tomorrow.

Year 5 Trip to Bushy Park

Year 5 travelled to Bushy Park on Tuesday to learn field studies techniques, specifically how to collect and observe invertebrates in different habitats. Accompanied by the Year 5 team of Mr Cox, Mr Peach, Mrs Castle and Mr Roberts, we set off from school ready for an action-packed day. The pupils learnt how to use nets to dip for pond-dwelling invertebrates during their larvae stages and how to transfer these carefully for detailed investigation under the microscope. We were even lucky enough to catch a fish and some Ramshorn snails! Armed with collecting kits the boys were able to deploy a range of techniques to investigate the habitats of tree and grassdwelling minibeasts in beautiful surroundings and we were lucky enough to find some incredible stag beetles. The weather was perfect for an exciting and adventurous day of outdoor Biology studies.

Summer Serenade

My congratulations to the Upper Prep and Senior pupils who performed so brilliantly at the CranmoreSummer Serenade on Wednesday evening. It was wonderful to see the variety of instrumental ensembles on show and hear the beautiful singing of our amazing choirs. We are always keen for boys to get involved in the extracurricular Music provision at Cranmore, so if your son would like to sing in a choir or is at a level where they may wish to join one of the many instrumental ensembles, please do contact me.

Year 2 News

As part of their topic of World War II, Year 2 constructed their own Anderson shelters, developing their cutting and joining skills. They enjoyed painting and choosing their own materials to disguise their shelters.

Reception News

The pupils in Reception have been learning about forces as part of their‘Out Of This World’ topic. They had fun acting out different scenarios to decide if they needed to use a push or a pull force to make something move. We then thought about a rocket zooming off to into space and decided to make our own. They decorated and cut out a rocket template. Then they fastened the top of a pipette to the back of the rocket. After that, they put the remaining part of the pipette inside the top and blew through the hole. They had so much fun watching their rockets fly into the air. We realised we were using a pushing force to make it fly. We also knew that gravity was pulling the rocket back to the ground. The children absolutely loved this activity and have been enjoying playing with their rockets.

They have also been enjoying the sunshine in their outdoor classroom and have been playing beautifully together. They particularly love playing with the cars, bricks and our wooden house.

The Pre-Nursery and Nursery children enjoyed a continental breakfast this week with Mrs Chan. The Nursery children had to place their order for either a croissant or a pain au chocolat their French lessons. The Pre-Nursery learnt bonjour and merci Nursery to experience in preparation for their transition to Nursery in September. treats!

Records broken at District Athletics

On Wednesday, our Senior Athletics team went to the Guildford Spectrum for the District event; all the boys did superbly. Theo L and Daniel B broke four district records between them. Theo broke the 800m record which had not been broken since 1969 and he also broke the 400m record. Daniel broke the 800m and Javelin district record. This means that both boys qualify for the next round which is a pathway to English Schools. We had a few top 3 finishers, one being Kobey M, jumping over 11m in the Triple Jump and he came 3rd in Javelin. Henry C came 2nd in the 800m and 2nd in the High Jump and finally Olly W came 3rd in the 1500m. Huge congratulations to the whole team.

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team

Ascension of Our Lord

"And he departed from our sight that we might return to our hearts and find him there. For he left us, and behold, he is here."

Bible Reading

Reflection

Amen

Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”

Reflection

This week we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord, the moment when Jesus ascends into Heaven.

Jesus leaves the disciples alone staring up into nothingness and yet that is not the whole story as Jesus promises He will be with us always. He remains with us in our hearts, within each other and in the Eucharist. Let us rejoice at such good news.

Prayer

Dear Lord

I receive your forgiveness into my life and ask you to take your rightful place in my heart as my Savior and Lord. Come reign in my heart, fill me with your love and your life, and help me to become a person who is truly loving a person like you. Restore me, Jesus. Live in me. Ascend in me.

Amen
