8 JANUARY 2024 3 JULY 2023 Message from the Head of Prep
It has been wonderful to welcome everyone back after the Christmas break and to hear of all the fun that was had over the holidays.
There is much to be excited about for the coming term. Next week sees our choir children perform at London’s O2 Arena and Mrs Hanson is already busy with preparations for the forthcoming Drama productions.
Sports fixtures have resumed and those taking part in after school training must be commended for their commitment despite the freezing temperatures. It is certainly the time of year when base layers really help to keep out the chill. Good luck to those taking part in the Shrewsbury House rugby tournament tomorrow.
The children have enjoyed a great first week back reconnecting with their friends and the playground has been buzzing with the chatter of happy voices. It is lovely to see them delighting in one another’s company. On a more practical note, please remind them to come to school with their coats - especially as more cold weather is forecast.
Mr Heaver
Christmas Jumper Day
Pupils across the school raised £725.70 on Christmas Jumper Day. This money has been donated to Save The Children. Thank you to everyone for your support.
Music News All choir and ensemble rehearsals are now up and running. If your child is interested in learning an instrument with one of the visiting music staff, please do contact their class Music teacher for more information.
Nursery News
The Nursery are focusing on the topic of Winter and Artic animals. They enjoyed using mixed media to create their own polar bears for our new Winter display. In Science they learnt about the habitat of Arctic animals and participated in sensory exploratory play. The children have also liked the small world play, using the diggers with stones and sand. Ms Luke, Head of Nursery
Upper Prep Reading Challenge The Upper Prep Reading Challenge is running until May half-term and many of our pupils are already taking part. Pupils will receive a bronze certificate for reading three books, a silver certificate for four books and a gold certificate for five books. They will also receive five merits for each book they read. The pupils who have read all five books by May will be asked to vote for their favourite book and invited to take part in a special celebration during which the winning book will be announced. It is not too late to start the challenge, so if you would like your child to take part, please ask them to speak to me in the Senior Library. Mrs Watkinson, School Librarian
Year 1 News Year 1 are learning how to write instructions. They enjoyed taking part in this hands-on activity, making their own jam sandwiches before writing a set of instructions for it. Mrs Bowen
A Message from our Chaplaincy Team
The Epiphany
They bowed down and worshipped Him.
Bible Reading A reading from the Gospel of Matthew After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped Him. Reflection There is much to ponder on as we hear once more the story of the wise men visiting Jesus. We are reminded that the star goes ahead of the wise men and leads them on. Let us be reassured that God goes ahead of us too, His presence and light will guide us throughout the term. Prayer We pray for all who are affected by the recent flooding and for those who are on their own. We pray for our leaders and Members of Parliament. May they be given the wisdom to govern wisely and to seek the good of all. We pray for all those affected by the conflict in the Middle East. Amen
