Message from the Head of Prep
It has been wonderful to welcome the children back to school after the summer break. They really are what makes this place special and the energy and enthusiasm that they bring is a joy to behold.
We have had a busy start to the new academic year with Headmaster’s Reception Evenings taking place across the Prep and Senior School as well as trips, sporting fixtures and clubs getting underway.
As the children ease their way back into the routine of school, it is a good time to start setting down positive habits. Remembering to sign reading markers or homework diaries and organising themselves for the day ahead will give them the best chance of enjoying success in school. It is lovely to see them taking pride in their appearance and the kindness and warmth that has been shown to new members of our school community is very encouraging.
This year, our school value is Community and on Sunday, our community of teachers from across the Trust took part in the Surrey Half Marathon in support of our local charity, Cherry Trees. Our fundraising has passed the £1,300 mark and I would like to say a huge thank you to those involved and to everyone who has donated.
On Sunday 8th March a team of 15 Cranmore staff gathered to take part in the Surrey Half Marathon and 5k event to raise money for our local charity Cherry Trees, based in East Horsley. This was a wonderful community event that will have a really positive effect for the charity.
Cherry Trees provides home from home care for children with complex disabilities whilst also providing their parents and family with a meaningful break. Every hour of care provides the family with an often much needed meaningful break. They can recharge, spend quality time with partners and siblings, meet friends, go to work, clean the house or simply relax. Last year, Cherry Trees provided a lifeline to 63 families by providing 1,551 sleepovers and 633 tea or day visits. On top of this core care, they ran five parent and staff wellbeing days, and provided small but vital financial grants through our bursary and welfare funds. These additional services ensure our families receive the physical, emotional and financial support they need.
We are pleased to have raised over £1,300 and we are looking forward to hosting Cherry Trees’ Community and Events Officer at School later this term.
Year 2’s Captivating Castles
The Year 2 pupils have started their new topic: 'Captivating Castles’. They made Motte and Bailey castles in groups using selected resources and labelled the features. Next, they designed their own coat of arms thinking about the symbols they would use to reflect themselves.
It has been lovely to see how well the Nursery children have settled back into Cranmore life. They had their first visit to Forest School and had a great time exploring the site and making treasure wands. In Literacy they started their rainbow writing of the letter sound of the week. Our topic is ‘All About Me,’ and they all enjoyed talking about their families and creating their own interpretations on paper.
Congratulations to our U11A team who are through to the next round of the Surrey Cup, having beaten RGS Prep 5-1.

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team
This Week
It was wonderful to welcome everyone back after the Summer holiday, and particularly to welcome all those new to our school family.
Bible Reading:
Another of his disciples,Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up,“Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”
Jesus said,“Have the people sit down.”There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down. Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. (John 6)
As we start this new school year we can feel a little overwhelmed. The Miracle of the Feeding of the Five Thousand reminds us that each of us has something to offer and encourages us to give what we can. For when we give we will receive.
OurValue focus this year is theValue of Community. Each one of us has something to bring to our School Community. What will you bring?
Lord Jesus help us this year to recognise the gifts you have given us and the gifts of others.
