Message from the Headmaster
We are incredibly excited about our Science and Technology Centre which will open for pupils next term. I would like to extend an invitation to parents to join me after drop-off or before pick-up on Monday 27th March. It will be an opportunity to tour the labs and classrooms and explore the new facility that will be a wonderful addition to the Senior school at Cranmore.
We had several heart-warming and entertaining assemblies across the school this week with a focus on healthy life choices, enjoying the company of others and appreciating the importance of our parents, particularly with Mother’s Day this weekend.
Year 4 gave a thoroughly entertaining drama presentation on the Heroes of Troy that brought to life the Greek history they are learning during lessons. It was encouraging to see the pupils demonstrating their acting, singing, dance and narration skills, while relishing the opportunity to perform in front of parents and siblings.

Harry Rings, Lord of the Potters performance by Year 5
In Drama, Year 5 pupils have been diligently rehearsing for their performance of the play Harry Rings, Lord of the Potters. They initially explored the original stories and through their imagination have brought some of these iconic roles to life. This week their parents were invited to watch their acting skills and go on the journey to find the cave of darkness. Well done to all the pupils who showed confidence and commitment throughout the process.

Science Week: Digging up the Past
This week the Year 4 pupils have been learning about fossils and have experienced the life of a palaeontologist. Palaeontologists study the Earth’s history through rocks and discovering fossils. Through these findings we are better able to understand the living conditions of organisms many years ago. It is with this knowledge of the Earth’s evolutionary and ecological past that palaeontologists are able to predict future trends in climate change. In Science we had great fun creating our own fossils and excavating these carefully.

Science Week: STEM Workshop for Years 5 and 6
Years 5 and 6 were treated to a fabulous STEM workshop last week when Wonderstruck showcased a number of dramatic experiments! They enjoyed learning about the science behind each experiment and were dazzled by the visual and audio effects.

Year 1 loved their science experiment this week in which they put the skittles around a plate, added some water and watched a rainbow form.
World Book Day Competitions

Nursery News
It felt as if Spring had really arrived in the Nursery this week, as the Pre-Nursery children planted Cosmos seeds in preparation for putting in our pots in the Nursery Garden. Lots of the children enjoyed planting the carrots in the vegetable patch with Mrs Rossi. There was some lovely sensory play, using couscous and spring onions, followed by lots of messy play with shaving foam in the tuff tray. The Red Group had great fun playing with streamers and ribbons, making the most of what was a very windy day! We changed our role play areas this week and now have a Hairdressers and a Doctor’s Surgery, this has produced some lovely imaginary role play amongst the children

Congratulations to Stokes House in the Lower Prep and Bowen House in the Upper Prep for gaining the highest number of merits this week!
Sports Update
Winners! Our U13A Hockey team played in the 2023 UKSA tournament on Wednesday. 16 teams were split into 4 pools with Cranmore having one of the toughest. The team progressed into the knockout stages, winning the quarter final and then beat Bede’s School in the final with another dramatic sudden death penalty shootout. The players were incredible throughout the day, showing great resilience and support for each other. We are so proud with their effort and this special achievement. Well done boys!
Hockey matches have also taken place against Feltonfleet, KCS Wimbledon, Kingswood House and Shrewsbury House. Our U13s A to D are playing against Thomas's Clapham tomorrow. Also, this weekend our U11s Swim Squad is competing in the ESSA National Team Championships at the Guildford Spectrum.
Sports Update
have a huge impact across all year groups. This week, Year 6 pupils have been enjoying Fundamental Movement Skills whilst attempting various obstacle courses in the Athletic Development Centre.

How will you give thanks for the women in your life?
A Prayer for Mother’s Day
Good and gentle God, we pray in gratitude for our mothers and for all the women who have joined with you in the wonder of bringing forth new life. You who became human through a woman, grant to all mothers the courage they need to face the uncertain future that life with children always brings. Give them the strength to live and to be loved in return, not perfectly, but humanly. Give them the faithful support of family and friends as they care for the physical and spiritual growth of their children. Give them joy and delight in their children to sustain them through the trials of motherhood. Most of all, give them the wisdom to turn to you for help when they need it most.
Amen.
REFLECTION
This Sunday, for those whose mothers and grandmothers are still alive - cherish them! Hug and kiss them. Honour them. Thank them. For those whose mothers have gone home to the Lord, remember them in your thoughts and prayers.
