On Saturday evening, the Henderson Field played host to our annual CPA Fireworks display, which was as impressive as ever. I know that a lot of hard work goes into making it happen so a massive thank you to those involved. Following the bright lights and excitement of that event, we paused on Monday morning to listen to the Last Post, played beautifully by two of our Senior pupils, and then observed a short silence to mark Remembrance Day.
I was impressed to see our Lower Prep School Council thinking about what we can do to celebrate our school value of community this year and I look forward to hearing the suggestions of our Upper Prep School Council next week. They all looked delighted to receive their badges in assembly and I am sure they will enjoy their new roles.
Wednesday evening was busy with our Senior School Insight Evening. A notable mention to those who managed to escape from London - despite the troubles with the trains – and came along to learn more about life in Years 7 to 13 including the exciting plans for our co-educational Sixth Form.
Today we have celebrated our differences with Odd Socks Day as part of raising awareness for Anti-Bullying Week. The children took great delight in showing off their colourful combinations of socks. They also gave some very thoughtful responses to Miss Gallop’s questions in our assembly which demonstrated real kindness and compassion.
The Geography of Food in Year 6
Year 6 Geographers have been studying “The Geography of Food” this term and they have recently learned about the role of wild hedgerows in promoting biodiversity. For homework, students were asked to find a recipe which uses foraged hedgerow ingredients, with a number of students additionally attempting their recipe and bringing in their delicious creations. Rafferty C-D in 6DE made his own blackberry jam and even ground his own flour from kernels of wheat. Well done to everyone who took part in this culinary challenge!

Anti-Bullying Week in Year 2
Year 2 pupils have enjoyed a wonderful week of learning this week. After Miss Gallop’s assembly launching 'Anti Bullying Week' with a focus on 'Choosing Respect' as this year’s theme, the children were able to discuss many different scenarios and how they would choose to respect one another. We talked about the importance of including everyone and celebrated our differences. The children loved designing their 'odd socks' ready for our 'Odd Sock Day' on Friday.
Year 2 Forest School Afternoon at Manor House
The Year 2 pupils were very excited to visit Manor House this week and join the children there for a special Forest School afternoon session. The children loved exploring their forest space; they carried out scavenger hunts; painted wood circles; played in their mud kitchen; played games; climbed and made dens.We all congregated at the end for a snack and shared our experiences.

This week in Nursery, the children were very excited to talk about their experiences of Bonfire Night and in particular the fun they had at the Cranmore event. They used glue and glitter on black paper to convey their own interpretation of the fireworks they saw. They also had great fun with the junk modelling to make their own firework rockets! At Forest School they made the most of the dry weather and engaged in a leaf rubbing activity, swinging in the hammock and developing their gross motor skills balancing on the slack line.

As the regular football season draws to end, all year groups had their last block fixture. Opposition schools included Shrewsbury House, Downsend and RGS Prep. Over 300 fixtures have been played this football season with both our U13s and U11s playing in their respective Surrey Cup Semi-Finals this week. A big thank you to Head of Football, Mr Cox, for planning and running a very successful football season.
The rugby season started this week with pupils learning and revisiting the basics and foundations of the sport. Lessons have included lots of small-sided games and drills to help the development of the pupils.
Best of luck to the swim squad members involved in the gala against Downsend today.

This week in Literacy, Reception pupils have been working hard at writing CVC words using their sounds taught in phonics. The children worked independently to segment the sounds in their heads, and then write the words out. We were so impressed not only with the children spelling the words correctly, but also with how neat the handwriting was. Super job, children!

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team
This Week
Bible Reading
On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine the best of meats and the finest of wines. On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces.
Isaiah 25:6-9
Reflection
This week we focus on Remembrance. We remember and give thanks all those who have sacrificed their lives defending the freedoms we enjoy. We recognise the cost that many have paid for our own freedom. In this month let us pray for our loved ones who have loved and lost.
Prayer
Let us pray for all those who have died, especially those from the families of our own school community. Lord, judge them kindly, welcome them into your presence, and give them peace.
“May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be.”
