11 DECEMBER 3 JULY 20232023 Message from the Head of Prep

As the first term draws to a close, it offers the opportunity to pause and reflect. The children will have their own highlights, from the various trips, visitors, workshops, music events, sporting fixtures and, of course, lessons. For some, it might well be this final week when they embraced a challenge and found the chance to shine.

This week our assemblies have celebrated the many achievements of the children. The Lower Prep Cups and Awards were presented on Monday, and Friday saw more celebrations with House Cups, Certificates and Headmaster’s Commendations.

After the heart-warming performances of the Nativity by children across the EYFS to Year 2, it was the turn this week of the Upper Prep and Senior pupils to join together for our Christmas Carol Services. As is the case for the Nativities, a huge amount of work goes on behind scenes to create these two very special evenings so a huge thank you to everyone involved for their contributions.

Today we gathered as a school community to share a delicious Christmas lunch and enjoy the spectacle of some eye-catching Christmas jumpers. We extend our warmest wishes for a happy and holy festive period with prayers for peace on earth and goodwill to all.

Mr Heaver

Prep Christmas Assembly This morning’s final assembly of the term was a colourful one, with an array of festive jumpers on display. Morton was announced as the winning House this term in both the Prep and Seniors. Certificates and Headmaster’s Commendations certificates were handed out. The House Captains led a rousing performance of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’. Finally, the results of the Christmas Raffle were announced by Miss Gallop with the help of her elves (aka the Lower Prep School Councillors).

Lower Prep Cups and Awards The Lower Prep School gathered together on Monday to celebration our Cups and Awards Assembly. We are very proud of all the children who have worked so hard this term, and enjoyed celebrating their achievements together.

Miss Gallop

Year 2 News Year 2 loved making their own wishes for 2024! They have been learning a variety of artistic skills to create their own interpretation of a dandelion clock and making their own wishes for the coming year. They are looking forward to giving these calendars to their families.

Year 2 have also loved making their own Bethlehem scenes for their Christmas cards and a Christmas decoration of a tree made out of twigs.

Merry Christmas from Year 2!

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team

Advent 'I am the handmaid of the Lord,' said Mary 'let what you have said be done to me.'

Reflection

Jesus’ birth is the moment in history where God becomes flesh and dwells among us, the moment when the divine enters into the world, so that we can become divine. From this moment everything is changed. Mary, this ordinary girl, who lived in an ordinary place becomes the handmaid of the Lord, the bearer of God’s begotten son, within whom the creator resides. This Christmas let us echo Mary’s “Yes” to God, open the doors of our hearts and welcome Him in.

Prayer

We pray for all who are homeless and feel left out this Christmas; for refugees separated from their families; and for those who are on their own. We pray for our leaders and for all those in authority. May they be given the wisdom to govern wisely and to seek the good of all. We pray for our families this Christmas. May our homes be filled with laughter and joy. May God, who in Jesus Christ united earth and heaven, grant you the peace of His presence, the joy of His Spirit, and the love which knows no end this Christmas.

Amen.
