Message from the Headmaster
With many of the pupils sitting summer assessments next week, we reminded them of the importance of being calm, taking a balanced approach and just achieving their best. In assembly, we discussed that assessments are an opportunity to celebrate what we know, show the progress we have made and correct any misunderstandings to pave the way for further development.
Congratulations to our ski squad who attended the National Snowsports Championships last Friday and achieved excellent results in the U10, U11, and U12 categories. Equally impressive results were achieved at the IAPS Indoor Championships at U9, U11 and U14 level. Well done to the U11 swimmers who qualified for the ESSA Finals in Sheffield next month. There were further outstanding performances at the Surrey Athletics competition and on the Cranmore golf course.
We were treated to some exquisite musical performances throughout the week during the piano concerts held in the auditorium. Pupils played a range of pieces from classical and contemporary artists; it was inspiring to witness the talent on display and reassuring to know that the tradition of musical excellence at Cranmore continues.
I appreciated both of the wonderful Year 1 assemblies this week. 1AB focused on the positive aspects of changing seasons
I particularly enjoyed the references to an abundance of sunshine which we all hope materialises over the next few months. 1CG entertained us with music, drama and dance in their performance about working as a team to achieve their goals and
The pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 were delighted to receive a visit from author Janice Akhtar today. Her stories are engaging and include subtle morals woven into adventures that children want to follow to the end. She talked about how she started writing books for children and then read some of her books using props. The children were captivated by her performance.
Year 1 Assemblies
On Tuesday, Form 1AB used their science knowledge to take the audience through the four seasons with several wonderful songs and dances. On Wednesday, Form 1CG shared the important message of teamwork and how, when we work as team in our classes, we can succeed together. Well done to all the pupils who performed so beautifully!
Mrs Watkinson, School LibrarianYear 1’s Planting to Celebrate the Coronation
Year 1 have planted Charlie’s Roses and red, white and blue bedding plants outside our classrooms to celebrate the Coronation. They have been learning how to look after the plants and we cannot wait for them to flower!
Mrs GreenYear 3 Plant Growing in Science
Pupils in Year 3 planted some seeds a while ago and are very excited now that they are growing strongly. In our science lesson this week, we looked carefully at the leaves, discussed what leaves do for the plant and then drew a labelled diagram showing all the different parts of a leaf.
Mrs SinclairThese Upper Prep pupils enjoyed making pizzas at Cookery Club last week. They began by making the dough and then added their choice of toppings. The pizzas all looked and smelt delicious!
Pizza Making at Cookery Club This Week’s House Cup Winners Congratulations to Radford House in the Lower Prep and Morton House in the Upper Prep for gaining the highest number of merits this week.Music News
My congratulations to all of the pupils who played so brilliantly in the two piano concerts this week. I am thrilled that so many of you clearly have a love for playing the piano. Keep working hard on your playing!
Mr Harris, Director of MusicCongratulations to this talented young pianist, Nino L (5FS), who performed the full version of Fur Elise by Beethoven brilliantly during Upper Prep assembly. Bravo!
Congratulations to Luke H in 3CS for performing ‘The Bare Necessities’ beautifully and with such confidence in last Friday’s Prep Assembly.
This week in Nursery, the children learnt the French words for their facial features. Some of the children enjoyed practising their cutting skills and created their own butterflies. The children have been learning to work together through Lego play; they had to listen carefully and follow the instructions from their peers to complete their Lego construction. In Pre-Nursery, the children have been learning all about spiders. They painted their own spider using the easel and had great fun with the exploratory play, which consisted of cocoa, water and cornflour to make chocolate gloop!
Ms Luke, Head of NurserySport Update
Our U11s swim squad were in action at the ESSA Relay Regionals on Saturday. The event, held at the Guildford Spectrum, included all the schools which had qualified from the district qualifiers. In the Medley, the team came 4th, but in the freestyle, the Year 6 swimmers finished 3rd. This result means that four pupils go through to the Finals which take place in Sheffield next month. Very well done to Edward W, Eoghan F, Henry C and Maximus G. See the front cover for their photo.
Our ski squad has been busy recently. Some pupils entered the National Snowsports Championships last Friday which produced some great results. Samuel B (Year 4) won the U10s, Elijah M (Year 6) came 3rd in the U11s, and Freddie B (Year 7) came 2nd in the U12s. Overall, the school won the Junior Trophy. Following this success, Cranmore entered three age group teams into the IAPS Indoor Championships on Monday: U9s, U11s and U14s. The school produced some great runs with some very quick times, producing more great results. Rafferty C-D (Year 4) came 1st in the Slalom with Samuel (Year 4) coming 2nd. Rocco H came 3rd in the U14s for both the Giant Slalom and Slalom. The most pleasing part was that, overall, Cranmore finished: 1st in the U9s, Silver in the U11s and Gold in the U14s. Congratulations to all involved.
PE in the Upper Prep has rotated to Athletics this week. All pupils had a chance to run, throw and jump as we move closer to our first Athletics events and Sports Days.

How will you spread the Word of Jesus?
Prayer for Ascension Day
Dear Lord Jesus Christ, right before your Ascension into heaven you told your apostles to be your witnesses to the ends of the earth upon receiving the Holy Spirit. May I be similarly inspired to spread your Gospel message in word and deed, according to your will for me.
Amen
REFLECTION
Yesterday we gathered to celebrate the Ascension, the ascent of Jesus Christ into Heaven on the 40th day after his Resurrection. The Ascension is the completion of the Easter mysteries of Jesus’ life, passion, death and resurrection, and it is the final step before the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
Let us Pray: Our Father
Hail Mary
1 minute silence
“The Feast of the Ascension tells us that Jesus, although He ascended to Heaven to dwell gloriously at the right hand of the Father, is still and is always among us: this is the source of our strength, our perseverance and our joy.” Pope Francis
In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
