Message from the Head of Prep

As we celebrate new life in Christ, we also celebrate the start of a new term together. For many, the Easter break will have provided a time for rest and recuperation, but for others their time will have been occupied by other matters. A number of our pupils were busy with sporting pursuits and praise must go to our Biathlon teams with our Year 4 boys taking gold in the National Finals and our Year 5 boys taking silver. There have also been some incredible individual performances in the pool and on the ski slopes.

In assembly this week, it has been wonderful to present certificates and trophies for a number of achievements including linguist awards and chess awards. As the children settle back into the routine of school, we look forward to celebrating more success over the coming weeks and months.

Year 3 Library Lessons

The Year 3 pupils are very excited to have the opportunity to visit the Senior Library every week this term as part of their transition into Upper Prep this coming September. Their first session took place this week and they were given an introduction to the Senior Library. They enjoyed exploring the large range of books on offer.

It has been lovely welcoming the children back this week and hearing all about their different experiences during the holidays. Our focus this term is on mini beasts and growing. We are looking at the lifecycle of the butterfly. The caterpillars have arrived and the children are enjoying looking at them to see when they will start to form a cocoon! The children have been engaging in various activities such as looking at pictures of different insects and painting them. They have also been busy using the interactive whiteboard to create their caterpillars and butterflies.

National Biathlon Final

A number of Cranmore pupils from Year 4 to Year 9 qualified for the GB Schools National Biathlon Finals which were held in Bath just before the Easter holidays. There were some exceptional performances both in the pool and on the track with the Year 4 team (Fabian H, Matthew B, Titus G and William R) winning the team gold medal and the Year 5 team (Arlo W, Rory C and Harry S) winning the silver medal in the team events. There were also some great individual performances with personal best achievements from Edward W (Year 7), Freddie R (Year 8), a top 10 finish in the country from Daniel B (Year 8) and Theo L (Year 9) winning the run component finishing 5th overall. Well done to all the pupils involved.

In swimming, we have qualified for both relays at the U11 ESSA regional event in May. Also, we have had early signs that we have a large representation at the IAPS Finals at the London Aquatic Centre next month.

Skiing

Congratulations to ski squad member Samuel B who did superbly in the British Championships in Tignes over the Easter holidays.

The Season of Easter

"And he departed from our sight that we might return to our hearts and find him there. For he left us, and behold, he is here."

Bible Reading

Reflection

Amen

When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognised him, and he disappeared from their sight. They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the scriptures to us?”

Reflection

We sometimes recognise Jesus, see Him know that He is near. And yet at other times He seems far off and we are afraid.

The story of the resurrection is the story of life overcoming death and love overcoming hate.

Prayer

Draw us forth, God of all creation.

Draw us forward and away from limited certainty into the immense world of your love.

Give us the capacity to even for a moment taste the richness of the feast you give us.

Give us the peace to live with uncertainty, with questions, with doubts.

Help us to experience the resurrection anew with open wonder and an increasing ability to see you in the people of Easter.

St Andrew …Pray for us.

St Maximilian Kolbe ….Pray for us.
