Message from the Head of Prep
Another wonderfully busy week brings to an end another exciting term. Once again, the time seems have flown by. Looking back to January, there have been so many remarkable moments that it is impossible to pick out just one that stands above the others. I know every child will have a different view on what has been the best experience for them this term.
Just thinking of recent events, there are a number of highlights they might choose from. Lower Prep put on a beautiful Music Assembly and Upper Prep received their certificates for success in the Primary Maths Challenge. Our catering team joined Year 4 for some madeleine making while Nursery enjoyed a more rustic meal of hot cross buns toasted over an open fire. Year 1 were helped by Year 10 as they explored crystals and Year 3 enjoyed a STEM workshop. Our Year 10 were involved again, on Wednesday, joining Year 5 for a tour of our Science and Technology building to speak about life in the Senior School.
There have been further sporting achievements with some great performances on the cross-country fields and in the pool. Good luck to those competing at the GB Schools National Biathlon finals this weekend.
Congratulations must go to Tylor for their success in the House Music Competition and to Morton for lifting the termly House Cup.
Happy Easter!

Upper Prep House Music Competition
My congratulations to all the UP boys who participated in this year's House Music Competition. The theme was faith and peace. There was some very strong singing on show throughout the competition and it was fabulous to hear some of the boys playing their instruments as part of their performance. It was very difficult to pick a winner from the six excellent performances but after much thought Tylor were awarded 1st place and the House Music Cup. My thanks to Mr Roberts and all the House staff who prepared the pupils so thoroughly.
A list of the songs sung by each House can be seen below:
Tylor Imagine by John Lennon
Morton Love Train by the O’Jays
Borelli Hall of Fame by The Script
Bowen Lean on Me by Bill Withers
Stokes Three Little Birds by Bob Marley
Radford Let It Be by The Beatles

An Introduction to Senior School for Year 5 Pupils
On Wednesday afternoon, all Year 5 pupils were invited to take part in an event which showcased the Senior School experience at Cranmore. They were able to enjoy displays and demonstrations in different subjects and talked to our Senior pupils about life in the Senior School. There was much interest and excitement throughout the event.
Madeleines in Year 4 French Lessons
Year 4 enjoyed making madeleines in their French lessons this week. They whisked together un œuf (an egg), du sucre (some sugar), du beurre (some butter) and de la farine (some flour) then waited for the madeleines to cook. The pupils agreed that they tasted délicieuses!

Primary Maths Bonus Challenge
Pupils successfully answered a variety of multiple-choice mathematics problems in the Primary Maths Challenge and those students scoring 20 or above out of 25 marks participated in the PMC Bonus Round, which took place during the week beginning 5th February.
Seven students from Cranmore were awarded the following certificates and lapel badges:
Silver certificate Daniel C, Leo B and Nino L
Bronze certificate Henry B, Anthony N and Oscar S
Participation certificate Theo G
All the pupils enjoyed taking part in the challenge and most importantly, it showed them that Maths can be fun. The Maths Department are extremely proud of each pupil’s success.
On Thursday, Year 3 enjoyed an exhilarating and informative workshop as part of the Science Week celebrations.
They learnt about some of the pioneers in the field of Astronautical Engineering and what their achievements were. However, the best part was the practical activity. The pupils tried to land their own lunar module on a target and then added a motor and tried to steer the lunar module in a straight line.
It was a fabulous way to test ideas and solve problems the same way that Astronautical engineers do.

Year 2 Trip to the Roald Dahl Museum
On Thursday last week, Year 2 spent the day at the Roald Dahl Museum learning all about the author’s life. They were thrilled to see the replica of the plane in which he learnt to fly, all the tricks he planned as a child, his school reports, his famous chair and writing hut at the end of his garden.
They had an inspiring workshop during which they learnt to create their own imaginative characters for a story using all the interactive displays in the story centre. After lunch, they had a wonderful guided walk around his village and spotted all the places that inspired him for his famous stories, for example the library from Matilda, the crown house from The BFG and the pump station from Danny The Champion of the World.
The sun shone while the children walked up to the church to visit his grave and admire the wonderful views and peaceful surroundings. It was a memorable day which inspired some wonderful storytelling the following day.

Lower Prep Music Assembly
The Cranmore Singers performed beautifully in their Music Assembly. They sang one of our favourite warm up songs, "The Grand old Duke of York." We have been learning to sing in parts this term and enthusiastically sang two songs in parts: "I'm feeling happy" and "Singing in the Dark".

Sport Update
Swimming Success
Last Saturday eight Cranmore pupils swam at the county round of the English Schools Primary Relay event at Guildford Spectrum. There were a lot of nerves with this being some of the pupils’ first major swimming event. We had two teams swimming very well on the night, participating in two relays each. Well done to Year 5 pupils Rory C, Harry M, Harry S and Theo B-Y.
Well done to Charlie S (Yr 6), Sebastian W (Yr 6), Arlo W (Yr 5) and Jack T (Yr 5) with an outstanding performance winning a bronze medal in the U11 freestyle relay, hopefully qualifying for the regional round in May.
This Saturday we have fourteen athletes competing at the GB Schools National Biathlon finals in Bath. Good luck to all of the pupils who are involved.
Hockey with St Teresa's
Year 6 had a great afternoon of hockey with St Teresa's on Tuesday. Six U11 fixtures in total were played across both sites, with some being mixed teams and other games played as Cranmore versus St Teresa's. There was some fantastic hockey on display and the afternoon was enjoyed by everyone across the year group. Well done to all involved.
Our U9s had their last hockey matches of the season against Hoebridge yesterday. The matches showed some high quality play and the matches were hotly contested.
Cross-country at Danes Hill
On Tuesday, our Upper Prep Cross Country team went over to Danes Hill for their annual Cross Country event. There were over 120 runners in each race and our boys had a fantastic run. All boys showed great determination across the very hilly and muddy course and they all completed the race in superb times.
Rosslyn Park 7s
Today, our U11s are playing at the prestigious Rosslyn Park 7s. It's a round-robin format with Cranmore's matches being against St Hugh's, RGS Newcastle, St Paul's School, Chinthurst School and The King's School (Worcester).

"Holy

Reflection
Bible Reading
Amen
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”
Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
Reflection
This week let us reflect and think about the Last Supper, remembering that on Sunday we begin Holy Week. Jesus begins the week entering triumphantly into Jerusalem and is going to celebrate his Last Supper on Maundy Thursday. Each moment within Holy Week is deeply symbolic. Jesus shows how much he loves us. He puts his love into action and takes on our burden of sin. Spend time over this Easter break to draw close to the one who has given all for us.
Prayer
Draw us forth, God of all creation.
Draw us away from limited certainty into the world of your immense love.
Give us the capacity to taste even for a moment the richness of the feast you give us.
Give us the peace to live with uncertainty, with questions, with doubts.
Help us to experience the resurrection anew with open wonder and an increasing ability to see you.
St Andrew Pray for us.
St Maximilian Kolbe Pray for us.
