Message from the Head of Prep

Saint George’s Day was marked on Tuesday and it was delightful to see the beautiful flags created in Nursery and to come together for an assembly celebrating this great saint. We paused to reflect on his virtues, such as his courage and dedication. Last weekend’s London Marathon runners would have needed these qualities and Year 5 led an inspiring assembly on this topic. We were lucky enough to have members of staff available who had run in Sunday’s race to come along and be interviewed by the children about their experiences and chosen charities. Perhaps some of those in the audience will one day follow that example and run a marathon for themselves.

School Council gathered this week and shared some excellent suggestions for fundraising which we hope to put into action this term. There was also some excited discussion about their lunch menu options, suggestions for new clubs and some ideas for off-site curricular trips.

This term brings with it the familiar sound of willow on leather, as our cricket season begins, and despite the cooler temperatures, there have been a lot of fixtures already this week. Congratulations must go to our Under 11 cricketers for making it through to the next round of the Surrey Cup and our Under 8s have been involved in their first competitive matches. Year 4 enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of sport on Thursday, when we played host to Manor House School and St Teresa’s, and we wish them well for their New Barn Field Centre residential trip next week.

Year 4 Afternoon of Fun

On Thursday, the EST had a Year 4 afternoon of fun. Manor House and St Teresa’s came over to Cranmore for an afternoon of rounders. They were put into ten mixed teams and they started the afternoon with an ice breaker game to get the pupils mixing and talking. After this, they played a game of rounders and then tennis ball rounders. All pupils worked as a team, they cheered on each other and congratulated their opponents. Thankfully the rain held off until match tea, which is always the pupils’ favourite part, and then all pupils went back to their respective schools. It was great to see all three schools come together and we look forward to many similar events together in the future.

Easter Music Course

It was wonderful to welcome so many talented children to our Effingham School’s Music course during the Easter holidays. Over the span of five days, they refined their skills under the guidance of our music department and instructors, all in preparation for an extraordinary final concert!

The children are loving our new topic all about World War Two. They have loved writing fact sheets about the Blitz and creating their own Blitz pictures!

We imagined there was an aid raid and took cover in our shelter. The children have loved sharing the research they have carried out at home all about a special person or family member during World War Two.

In our PSHE topic about relationships the children loved writing about their families and what makes them special.

In Science the children are very excited to be writing a bean diary and predicting the stages the bean will go

Year 2 News

Year 1 had a fabulous time at Forest School last Thursday digging, climbing, eating honey on toast, swinging in the hammock and making wild flower suncatchers.

Nursery News

The Pre-Nursery children have been learning all about mini beasts. They made binoculars and went on a walk around the school grounds looking for insects. On Tuesday we celebrated St George’s day and the children listened to the story of St George and made their own flags. The children have loved imaginary play in our mud kitchen, making pancakes and getting their friends to try them!

The Season of Easter

"And he departed from our sight that we might return to our hearts and find him there. For he left us, and behold, he is here." ~

Bible Reading

Reflection Amen

“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me just as the Father knows me and I know the Father and I lay down my life for my sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also.”

Reflection

In this week's Gospel we see Jesus the Good Shepherd explaining how His sheep know His voice. Who are the people in your life whom you can recognise just by the sound of their voice, even with just a few words on the phone? Whose voice do you love to hear? Maybe you associate good things with that voice, like granny coming to visit! How good are you at recognising someone's tone of voice and what that means? What kind of tone of voice do you think Jesus speaks to you in? Is there space in your home to hear the voice of Jesus, or is there always a lot of noise? Is there a way that, as a family, you could create quiet time to let Jesus speak His word into your hearts?

Prayer

Teach me to walk as you walk

Beside those in mourning so that they will know joy, Beside those in fear that they will know comfort, Beside those in hunger that they will feast until their cup overflows.
